Myrtle Frieda Waters, 86, of San Antonio, passed away on January 4, 2012. A church service will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 17 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church with interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National cemetery in San Antonio.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Jan. 16 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North at 3401 Cherry Ridge Dr. in San Antonio.

Services for Gwen McCarthy, 85, of Salado were held Tuesday December 27, 2011, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Temple. Interment followed at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, TX. Visitation was held at Broecker Funeral Home on Dec. 26.
Bayleigh Elizabeth Ringo
Services for Bayleigh Elizabeth Ringo, age 5, of Salado were held December 23, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Salado with Rev. Travis Burleson officiating. Burial followed at Harris cemetery near San Saba.
Bayleigh died December 20, 2011 in a Temple hospital.
Sue Johns
Services for Sue Johns, 73 of Salado will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 28 at Salado United Methodist Church, Salado. Interment will be at the Jennings Mountain Cemetery, Brownsboro, Texas at a later date.
Sue Johns died in a local nursing home on December 17, 2011.
Marilyn Reveley Brewer
Memorial services for Marilyn Reveley Brewer, 64, of Salado were held Dec. 10 at Grace Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kathy Vineyard officiating. Private burial held in Salado Cemetery.
Brewer died December 6, 2011 in The Meridian Health Care Center.

Sgt. 1st Class Roderick Demaine Johnson
Sgt. 1st Class Roderick Demaine Johnson, 40, whose home of record is listed as Columbus, Ga., died Dec. 4, 2011 at his off-post residence from a terminal illness.
Johnson, entered active-duty service in November 1993 as a network switching systems operator maintainer and recently served as a telecommunications operations chief. He was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, Warrior Transition Brigade, Fort Hood, since April 2011.
Johnson deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from July 2005 to July 2006 and from July 2009 to July 2010.
Johnson’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, two Joint Service Commendation Medal, four Army Commendation Medals, two Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, five Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Device, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with numeral three, Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Service Ribbons, NATO Medal, Recruiter Badge (Gold) with 3 Sapphire Achievement Stars and the Driver and Mechanic badge.

Capt. Shawn Patrick Charles
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation New Dawn.
Capt. Shawn Patrick Thoma Charles, 40, whose home of record is listed as Hickory, N.C., died Oct. 23, 2011 at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio from a terminal illness.
He entered active-duty service in January 2009 and was assigned to 2nd Battalion 8th Calvary Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.
Charles deployed in support of Operation New Dawin in August 2011.
Charles’ awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, Army Good Conduct Medal, two National Defense Service Medals, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon.
Sgt. John A. Lyons
The Department of Defense announced the death of a Soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Sgt. John A. Lyons, 26, of Seaside Park, N.J., died Oct. 26, 2011 in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire.
Lyons joined the military in February 2009 as a combat engineer and was assigned to the 8th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, Fort Hood, since June 2009.
Lyons deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in December 2010.
Lyons’ awards and decorations include the NATO Medal, three Army Achievement Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and Combat Action Badge.
Specialist Russell Allen Richardson
Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died in his barracks room Oct. 29, 2011.
Specialist Russell Allen Richardson, 26, whose home of record is listed as Big Bear Lake, Calif., entered active-duty service in December 2008 as a motor transport operator. He was assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, Warrior Transition Brigade, since December 2010.
Richardson’s awards and decorations include Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
Cause of death is under investigation.
Private First Class Steven Francis Shapiro
The Department of Defense has released the name of a Soldier who died in Tallil, Iraq, October 21, 2011 in support of Operation New Dawn.
Private First Class Steven F. Shapiro, 29, whose home of record is listed as Hidden Valley, Calif., entered active-duty service in March 2010 as an M1 Armor Crewman. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, since July 2010.
Shapiro deployed in support of Operation New Dawn earlier this year.
Shapiro’s awards and decorations include an Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
Cause of death is under investigation.

June Campbell, 103, of Salado, formerly of Henderson, Texas, passed away October 20, 2011, at the home of her daughter in Salado.
