Mildred Smith, 80, of Temple, Texas, passed away April 20, 2011. She was born to Emmitt and Minnie (Pfluger) Fuchs on September 26, 1930 in Pflugerville, Texas.
The funeral service was held April 23, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pflugerville.

The Department of Defense announced the death of a Soldier who was supporting Operation New Dawn.
Private First Class Antonio G. Stiggins, 25, whose home of record is Rio Rancho, N.M., died April 22, in Numaniyah, Iraq, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
Stiggins joined the military in January 2010 as a cavalry scout was assigned to Troop F, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. He arrived at Fort Hood May 2010.
Stiggins deployed in support of Operation New Dawn in September 2010.

The Department of Defense announced the death of a Soldier who was supporting Operation New Dawn.
First Lt. Omar J. Vazquez, 25, whose home of record is Hamilton, N.J., died April 22, in Numaniyah, Iraq, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
Vazquez received his commission in February 2009 as a field artillery officer and was assigned to Troop F, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, since April 2010.
Vazquez deployed in support of Operation New Dawn in September 2010.

The Department of Defense announced the death of a Soldier who was supporting Operation New Dawn.
Sergeant Christian A. Garcia, 30, of San Diego, Ariz., died April 2, 2011 in Babil province, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his position with indirect fire.
Garcia joined the military in June 1999 as a quartermaster and chemical equipment repairer and was assigned to the Maintenance Troop, Regimental Support Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, since August 2010.
Garcia deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from December 2004 to December 2005 and from November 2007 to January 2009.

Staff Sergeant Quadi S. Hudgins, 26, of New Orleans, La., died April 2, 2011 in Babil, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his position with indirect fire.
Hudgins joined the military in June 2003 as a radio and communications security repairer and was assigned to the Maintenance Troop, Regimental Support Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, since June 2010.
Hudgins deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2005 to September 2006.

Sgt. Jorge A. Scatliffe, 32, of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, died April 3 in a non-combat related incident potentially from a medical condition at Mosul, Iraq.
Scatliffe, joined the military in April 1998 as a Bradley fighting vehicle system maintainer and was assigned to Company E, 27th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, since April 2005.
Scatliffe deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from April 2003 to August 2004, from December 2005 to December 2006, and from June 2008 to May 2009.

Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier found dead from an apparent gunshot wound April 4 inside a vehicle in Temple.
Specialist Charles A. Young, 24, whose home of record is Elkhart, Ind., joined the military in September 2006 as a military intelligence systems maintainer and integrator and was assigned to Company B, 15th Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Hood, since August 2010.
Young deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from March to September 2010.
Young’s awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Army Service Ribbon.

Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died at Carl R. Darnall Medical Center after collapsing while standing in formation March 29 here. The cause of death is unknown at this time.
Sgt. 1st Class Randy Richard, 40, of Mamou, La., joined the military in February 1991 as an automated logistical specialist and was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Brigade Troops Battalion, 4th Sustainment Brigade. 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), Fort Hood, since November 2010.
Richard deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from April 2003 to July 2004 and from August 2008 to October 2008.
Richard’s awards and decorations include the four Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, six Army Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon with numeral three, six Overseas Service Ribbons, Army Service Ribbon, United Nations Medal, NATO Medal and Driver and Mechanic Badge.

Richardson deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from January 2008 to January 2009.

Services for Antonio Guajardo, 80, of Belton were held March 26, 2011 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Salado with Reverend Greg McLaughlin officiating. A visitation preceded the service.
Antonio Guajardo died March 21, 2011 at a local hospital. He was born January 17, 1931 in Bartlett, TX to Eusebio and Inez Capetillo Guajardo.
James Leonard “Jim” Ashworth
Services for Retired Major James Leonard “Jim” Ashworth, 84, of Temple, formerly of Killeen and Salado, were held 1 p.m. March 24, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Salado with Reverend Pat Anderson officiating. Burial with full military honors followed at Central Texas State Veterans’ cemetery in Killeen. Services have been entrusted to Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen. Jim passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011, at his home.

Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who was found unresponsive March 20, 2011 in his barracks. The cause of death is unknown.
Private First Class Tommy Lee Curd, 19, whose home of record is Ellington, Mo., joined the military in February 2010 as a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic and was assigned to 509th Forward Support Company, 504th Special Troops Battalion, 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, Fort Hood, since December 2010.
Curd’s awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Army Service Ribbon.

Corporal Gjelosh Vata
Ft. Hood released the name of a Soldier who died after battling a serious illness March 9 in Clinton Township, Mich.
Corporal Gjelosh Vata, 26, whose home of record is Macomb, Mich., was assigned to the Warrior Transition Unit, Fort Hood, since March 2. He entered active duty service in March 2008 as a Patriot launching station enhanced operator and maintainer.
