Mary Elizabeth Zieger, age 84, of Salado died Saturday August 7, 2010 at her home.
Private burial followed Tuesday August 10 at the Salado cemetery in Salado.
Sergeant Delquan Robert Matthews
Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier died of an apparent gunshot wound Aug. 3, 2010 in Killeen, Texas.
Sergeant Delquan Robert Matthews, 23, of Brooklyn, N.Y., joined the military in September 2006 as a aviation operations specialist. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, III Corps, since July 2008.
Matthews deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from June 2008 to June 2009.
Matthew’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with bronze service star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Basic Aviation Badge.

Services for Edward James Gustina, 59, of Salado, will be held at a later date.
Mr. Gustina passed away Saturday, August 7th, 2010 in a Belton nursing center.
Robert Dean Agee, Sr
Robert Dean Agee, Sr., 77 of Salado, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at his residence.
Memorial services were held August 7, 2010 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.
Sergeant Bradley Dale Penman
Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who was found dead in his apartment July 29, 2010 in Killeen, Texas.
Sergeant Bradley Dale Penman, 34, of Punxsutawney, Pa., joined the military in July 1994 as a combat engineer. He was assigned to Company E, 3rd Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, since May 2010.
Penman deployed to South Korea from October 1994 to November 1995 and October 1997 to December 1998. He also deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from March 2004 to March 2005 and October 2006 to December 2007.
Penman’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, three Army Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, Korean Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with three bronze campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, five Overseas Service Ribbons, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver - Wheeled Vehicles, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver - Tracked Vehicles and two Basic Marksmanship Qualification Badges.

Dr. John Allen Barton, Jr. (1929-2010)
Dr. John Allen Barton, Jr. passed away on July 28, 2010 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas.
He was born on November 14, 1929 in the same hospital to John Allen and Edna Gist Barton.
He graduated from Salado High School as the valedictorian of the class of 1947.
He received a B.S. from Baylor University and graduated from Baylor University College of Dentistry in 1954.
He was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps.
He served his first assignment as an intern at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio, where he met Patricia Anne Lawshe on a blind date arranged by friends. They were married
on August 13, 1955 in San Antonio.
Sergeant Derek Peter Schicchi
Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died July 19, 2010 in Killeen, Texas, of an apparent gunshot wound.
Sergeant Derek Peter Schicchi, 27, of Spring Hill, Fla., joined the military in February 2003 as a track vehicle repairer. He was assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, since July 2007.
Schicchi deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from August 2007 to January 2008 and January 2009 to January 2010.
Schicchi’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Bronze Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and Army Service Ribbon.

Patricia Ann Youngblood
April 13, 1953 - July 14, 2010
“Patti” Youngblood of Salado died in the Scott & White critical care ICU unit July 14th, 2010.
She was born in Temple, TX April 13, 1953 to Preston and Hazel Sagebiel Kelly.
She graduated Academy ISD and worked in Houston for Aramco Services Company.
She married
Alan Youngblood in 1987 and subsequently moved to Saudi Arabia returning after retirement to their home in Salado in 2000.
Sergeant 1st Class Vincent Gines
Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died July 15, 2010. Sergeant 1st Class Vincent Gines, 48, of Cotter, Ariz., collapsed during a softball game and was transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center by EMS where he was pronounced deceased.
Gines joined the military in October 1989 as a cannon crewmember and was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 393rd Regiment, 479th Field Artillery Brigade, 120th Infantry Brigade, 1st Army Division West, Fort Hood, since July 2009.
Gines deployed in support of Operation Southern Watch April to November 1998, Operation Enduring Freedom from March 2004 to March 2005, and Operation Iraqi Freedom from September 2007 to November 2008.
Gines’ awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with one bronze star device, Armed Force Expeditionary Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal with combat star, Iraqi Campaign Medal with combat star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with one oak leaf cluster, Overseas Service Ribbon with three oak leaf clusters and Army Service Ribbon.

Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died July 10, 2010 in Temple, Texas.
Sergeant Douglas Edward Hale Jr., 26, of Rhome, Texas, joined the military in August 2002 as a M1 armor crewman and was assigned to Troop C, 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, since May 2009.
Hale deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from February 2004 to May 2005 and August 2006 to October 2007.
Hale’s awards and decorations include the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Expeditionary Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and Army Service Ribbon.

Funeral services for Billie Berry, 89, of Salado will be at 11:00 AM Friday, July 9th at Salado Church of Christ in Salado with Rev. Joe Keys officiating. Interment will follow in Salado Cemetery.
Mrs. Berry passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at a care center in Harker Heights.
Allen Rice
Allen Rice of Salado, Texas, formerly of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully July 1, 2010 at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, California.
A memorial service celebrating Allen’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Salado United Methodist Church, 650 Royal Street, Salado, Texas 76571.
