Fort Hood announced the death of a Soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Spc. David Andrew Croft Jr. 22, of Plant City, Fla., died Jan. 5, 2010 in Baghdad, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.
Ed Baker
Funeral services for Ed Baker, 84, of Salado were held January 12, 2010 at Salado United Methodist Church. Travis Franklin officiated. Interment followed at Salado Cemetery.
Baker died Sunday, January 10 in a Temple hospital.
Bob Wright
Bob Wright, 84, of Bryan passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2009.
Visitation will be Friday, January 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.
Funeral Services are set for 10 a.m., Saturday January 2, at the funeral home.
Spc. Jonathan L. Hughey
Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died Monday, Jan. 1, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona of injuries suffered as a result of a gunshot wound.
Spc. Jonathan L. Hughey, 24, of Phoenix, AZ., joined the military in March 2007 as an wheeled vehicle mechanic. He was assigned to Forward Support Company, 62nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade since October 2009.
Lois Mae Watson Shepperd
Lois Mae Watson Shepperd passed away New Year’s Day, 2010 at the age of 96, in a Belton Nursing Home. She was born on November 10, 1913 to Ausie and Bertie Mae Capps Watson. She was the second oldest in her family of four brothers; Foster, Harold, Dick and Joe Watson and three sisters; Inez Buford, Osie Baker and Josie Cearley. She was the last surviving member of her family.
Lois was a lifelong resident of Salado.
Bertrand Paul Moquin
Bertrand Paul Moquin, of Salado, passed away Jan. 4, 2006 at a Temple hospital.
Moquin was born Sept. 16, 1938 in Burlington, VT to Bertrand Joseph Moquin and Cecelia Rachel Peryea.
After serving in the United States Navy, Senior Chief Petty Officer Moquin went on to have a 22-year career with Texas Instruments. Very shortly after, he joined the staff at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where he held a position as a Professor in Information Systems and Business Administration.
He is survived by Margarita, his wife of 46 years; his son Paul and wife Kelly, and their three children, Amanda, Laura, and Joshua; son Rene` and his wife Patti, and their three children, Tyler, Jordan, and Emily; and daughter Sally and her two children, Alexander and Katelynn.
Rev. Roy Parker will officiated the graveside service, held Jan. 7 at the Salado Cemetery.

Patsy Jene Laws
Patsy Jene Laws, 67, of Salado, passed away Jan. 2, 2006 at her residence.
Laws was born in Seymour, TX on Sept. 5, 1938, the daughter of the late William John and Dorothy (Wall) Olsen.
She is survived by her husband, Lyndol Jay Laws, of Salado; daughter, Shari Watkins, of Kingwood, TX; son, William Laws, of Saint Jo, TX; and sister, Chris Davies, of Alvarado, TX. She is also survived by three grandchildren.
Memorial Services were held Jan. 7 at Heritage Funeral Home in Harker Heights.
Kenneth Bert Jackson
Funeral services for Kenneth Bert Jackson, 63, of Temple, were held Jan. 21, 2006 at the Boone Hamlin cemetery in Youngsport with Minister Joe Keyes officiating.
Jackson died Jan. 19, 2006 in a Temple hospital.
He was born Oct. 17, 1942 is Stillman Valley, the son of Hugh Bert and Eva Kathryn Jackson. He was a long-distance truck driver for many years, retiring in 2001.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Lee Jackson, in 1968.
Survivors include one son, Hugh Daniel Jackson, of Overton, and daughter, Renee Carroll, of Lampasas. He is also survived by brother and sister-in-law Donald and Linda Jackson, of Salado, one sister, Kathryn Bouffard, of Georgetown, and two grandchildren.
Dossman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Elma Mae Dryden Arnsberger
Services for Elma Mae Dryden Arnsberger, 88, of Salado were held Jan. 24, 2006 at the Salado United Methodist Church with Rev. Grady Brittian and Rev, Joe Bentley officiating. Burial was prior to the service.
Arnsberger died Jan. 21, 2006 at her residence.
She was born Nov. 10, 1917 in Larned, Kansas to Vernon Redmon Dryden and Bessie Bell Dryden. She married
David Drue Arnsberger June 27, 1937 in Pawnee County, Kansas. Elma Mae Arnsberger moved to Salado 27 years ago from Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Salado United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, David Arnsberger of Denver, Colorado; two daughters, Cheryl (David) Griffith of Georgetown; Dianne (Al) Freeze of Cincinnati, Ohio; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982, and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to Scott & White Hospice or to the charity of choice.

Robert Johnson
Services for Retired LTC Robert M. Johnson, 81, of Salado were held June 2, 2006 at the Salado United Methodist Church with Rev. Grady Brittain officiating. Burial with full military honors followed in the Central Texas State Veterans cemetery in Killeen.
He was born Oct. 16, 1924 in Anson, TX to Albert S. Johnson and Marion Louise Smith Johnson. He married
Adelle Turner in 1942 in Stamford, TX. Johnson enlisted in the United States Air Force on Feb. 9, 1943 and received his pilots’ training Aug. 4, 1944. His military awards include the commendation ribbon, the bronze star medal (twice), the air medal (twice) and the legion of merit medal.
Survivors include his wife, Adelle Turner Johnson, of Salado; one son, Ronald Johnson, of Burnet; two daughters, Linda Hutchison, of Grove City, OH and Lana Rowland, of Beaufort, SC; and seven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salado United Methodist Church building fund.

Jessie Merle Wallace
Services for Jessie Merle Wallace, 98, of Seguin and formerly of Belton were held May 30, 2006 in the Heartfield Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Darren Walker. Burial followed in the Resthaven cemetery south of Belton.
She was born on November 2, 1907 in Bell County to I.T. Harrell and Jessie Allamon Harrell. Wallace was a lifetime resident of Bell County. She graduated from Holland High School, and later graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
She married
William Gran Wallace on Sept. 2, 1934 in Lubbock. Wallace taught school in Belton and Salado. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Belton, where whe was in the Patterson Open Door class and a member of the United Methodist Women. In addition, she was a member of the Bell County Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Survivors include one son, Don Wallace, of Seguin; one daughter, Peggy Harlan, of Pottsboro; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1977, one daughter, Patti Hall, in 1992; and two sisters, Rubby Ann Baker, in 2003, and Tommie Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Belton.
