Gladyne McLean Reed
Gladyne McLean Reed passed away June 15, 2006 in Palo Alto, CA, and was buried in Salado cemetery June 23.
She was descended from five generations of Central Texas pioneers. Her parents were Dallas Duncan McLean and Gladys Robertson. She was born on July 25, 1915, near Joe Lee on the Duncan Calhoun McLean farm. She married
Robert Dawson Eis, and they had one child, a daughter. Later, she married
James Cornelius Reed and lived for many years in California.
She is survived by two brothers, Dr. Malcolm Dallas McLean, of Georgetown, and Dr. Sterling Robertson McLean, of Palo Alto, CA; and a daughter, Roberta Eis Ling, of Palo Alto, CA.
Floyd Gibbs
Graveside services for Floyd Gibbs, 82, of Jarrell, were held June 21, 2006 in the Live Oak Cemetey in Youngsport with Pastor Dean Coultas officiating.
Gibbs died June 17 in a Belton nursing center.
He was born on May 27, 1924 in Florence, to Ray Gibbs and Bernice Newman Gibbs. He married
Catherine McGuffin on Jan. 17, 1953 in Jarrell. Gibbs was a foreman for Brown and Root in the construction of Fort Hood and Whitney Dam. He was a rancher, and was the foreman at Solana Ranch for over 50 years. He was a member of the Central Texas Cattlemen’s Association and the Central Texas Cowboys Hall of Fame and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jarrell.
Survivors include one daughter, Juana K. Preston and husband John Ricky Preston, of Salado; three sisters, Nelda Ray, of Youngsport, Weltha Atkins, of Florence, Juanice (Poochie) Nord, of Killeen; and one granddaughter, Amber Lea Preston and husband Kevin, of Salado. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Ray Gibbs, in 2005, one brother, Gayle Gibbs, and one sister, Freda Ray.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 406, Jarrell, TX 76537.

William Brian Lutz
Memorial services for William Brian Lutz, 25, of Copperas Cove, were held Aug. 10, 2006 at the Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, with Minister Joe Baisden officiating.
Lutz died Aug. 8 in a Temple hospital.
He was born April 6, 1981 in Lake Charles, LA, the son of William Lutz and Kathleen Langley Lutz. He was a resident of the Windcrest Nursing Center in Copperas Cove since he was seven years old.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, William (Bill) and Julie Lutz, of Salado; two brothers, James Lutz and Jerod Lutz, of Salado; sister Brittania Lutz, of Salado; grandparents Richard and Agnes Lutz, of Temple, Ron and Josette Collins, of College Station, Sally Riggle, of Killeen, and Jack Langley, of Lake Charles, LA.

Connie Townsend
Funeral services for Connie Townsend, 77, of Salado will be held 10 a.m. Aug. 3, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Salado, with Rev. Billy Johnson and Rev. Brian Dunks officiating. Burial will follow at the Salado Cemetery.
She died July 31 at a Temple nursing home.
She was born in Terrell, the daughter of Floyd and Leslie Blain. She married
Wayne Townsend on Oct. 10, 1948 in Salado. She was an elementary school teacher for 36 years, teaching five years in Killeen and 31 years in Salado. She retired from teaching in 1989. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Salado for 58 years.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Townsend, of Salado; daughter Lori Maughan, of Salado; one sister Sue Ann Pfeil, of Plano, and one granddaughter, Jessica.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Salado.

Jim Bowmer
Jim DeWitt Bowmer, 87, of Bell County, Texas, died July 20, 2006 at his home. Graveside services was held, July 24, 2006 at the Bowmer Ranch with Rev. Bruce Burleson and Pastor Jimmy Towers officiating. Burial was in the Peaceable Kingdom Baptist Church Cemetery.
Jim DeWitt Bowmer was born May 4, 1919 in Bell County to DeWitt and Linnie Morgan Bowmer. He was a graduate of Temple High School in 1936, Temple Junior College in 1938, received his B.A. with honors in 1940 from Baylor University in 1940 and his LLB with honors in 1942 from Baylor Law School. Bowmer served in the U. S. Army with JAG during World War II having served in Africa, Italy, Hawaii and the Philippines.
Mr. Bowmer was Past President, State Bar of Texas, Past Chairman of Board of Directors, State Bar of Texas, Distinguished Alumnus of Baylor University and Baylor Law School, former Adjunct Professor at Baylor University Law School, recipient of honorary doctorate from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on May 11, 1996, and member of Board of Trustees, The Texas Supreme Court Historical Society. He has written or co-authored articles on Criminal Law and Procedure in the Baylor Law Review and Texas Bar Journal. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Temple and Peaceable Kingdom Baptist Church.
He married
Daurice Spoonts Yarbrough who died June 8, 1994. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Burleson and Martha Bowmer and his precious grandson Charles Bowmer Schreiner V.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Nell Neal and husband Larry of Temple and Mary Helen Schreiner and husband Charles IV of Salado and Kerrville; 7 grandchildren, Scott Edmund Simmonds and wife Shawn, Dan DeWitt Simmonds and wife Marla, Brian Allen Neal and wife Jamie, Tiffany Nell DeWitt Schreiner, Julie Daurice Dickson and husband Sam, Tessa Charlene Schreiner, and Tyndal Daurice Elizabeth Schreiner; 7 great-grandchildren, Marli Joyce-Daurice Simmonds, Abigail Marie Simmonds, Colton Bowmer Simmonds, Jacqueline Nell Simmonds, Carlie Lorene Simmonds, Tucker Jackson Neal, and Annie Elizabeth Dickerson.

H.A. Bud Schenkel
H.A. Bud Schenkel, of Salado, died Dec. 31, 2006 in a local nursing home.
A resident of Salado since 1977, Schenkel was born in 1930 in Dallas.
He attended Highland Park High School, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1958, and was employed by Texas Instruments until 1985, when he retired to enter private business.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Phillips Schenkel; three children, Catherine Sheffer and husband Ron, of Salado, Karen Kacir and husband Karl, of Rogers, Robert Schenkel, of Flagstaff, AZ; eight grandchildren, Ryan and Amy Scheffer, Rachel, Rebecca, Joshua and Erin Pursche, and Julia and Stuart Schenkel.
He was laid to rest Jan. 3 in Dallas with a private family graveside service.
Gale Gregory
Funeral services for Gale Gregory, 88, of Salado were held Dec. 19, 2006 at the Salado United Methodist Church with Rev. Grady Brittain officiating. Burial followed at the Salado Cemetery.
Gregory died Dec. 15, 2006 in an Austin hospital.
He was born September 2, 1918 in Springfield, MO, the son of Edward and Arzelia Gregory. He worked for the Veteran’s Hospital in Temple. He was a member of the Salado Methodist Church.
He was also an avid golfer.
Gregory was preceded in death by his wife, on Oct. 22, 1991.
He is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Greer of Pasadena, Texas; grandchildren, Jeanene Kendrick and Bruce Kendrick; and a great-grandchild, Zoe Kendrick.

Kay Baden
Kathryn (Kay) Beery Baden passed away Dec. 12, 2006 in Temple at age 86.
She was born in Washington, IA, to Marvin and Margaret Thompson Beery on Sept. 29, 1920.
She attended Coe College, in Cedar Rapids, IA. There she was active in Alpha Xi Delta sorority, ultimately being named to their Order of the Pearl, and as Coe’s Beauty Queen by Big Band Leader Horace Heidt. While attending Coe she met Wayne Baden, whom she married
on Sept. 13, 1940. They had been married
66 years at the time of her death.
The Badens relocated a number of times early in their marriage due to Wayne’s medical residencies and Army service. They lived in Iowa City, IA, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Raymondville, before settling in the Bell County area in 1959.
Kay was a founding member of the Mill Creek Choral Group, as well as a member of numerous other musical groups. She and Mrs. Howard K. LeBus co-founded the Scott & White Hospital Yellow Bird Service.
In addition to music she served as an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Belton before moving to Temple where she and her husband joined Grace Presbyterian Church in 2004. She was active in her PEO chapter in Temple and at the PEO Cotty Women’s College in Nevada, MO. She was active in the Cub Scouts and Brownies.
She is survived by her husband; three children, Karen Baden Parker, of McKinney, and husband Tom, Leland Baden, of Temple, and Gary Baden, of Frisco, and wife Sarah; three grandchildren, Kurt Liles, of Frisco, Keven Lewis of North Little Rock, AR, and Lara Baden, of Frisco; and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes may gift their favorite church, charity, or the Music Fund at the Belton Presbyterian Church.

Freddie Flowers
Services for Freddie Lee Flowers, 72, of Salado, were held Nov. 27, 2006 in the Heartfield Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Skip Blancett officiating. Burial followed in the Salado Cemetery.
He was born Sept. 1, 1934, in Kansas City, KS, to Murney Flowers and Zeta Clark Flowers. He married
Gloria Menges on July 28, 1956 in Miami, OK. Flowers served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He also owned Vianco, Inc. for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Flowers, of Salado; two sons, Philip Flowers, of Magnolia, Mark Flowers, of Gautier, MS; two daughters, Vicki Jones, of Montgomery, Theresa Smith, of Magnolia; two sisters, Kate McCarty of Edwardsville, KS, Dorothy Johnson, of Missouri; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bob Flowers, in 2006.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Men’s Prayer Group at First Baptist Church in Salado.

C.E. Cameron
C.E. Cameron, 85, of Temple died Nov. 16, 2006 in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services were held Nov. 17 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Monsignor Edward Matocha and Deacon John Petter officiating. Burial followed at St. Monica’s cemetery in Cameron, Texas.
Clarence E. Cameron was born March 12, 1921 in Oakalla, Texas to David and Lura Cantwell Cameron. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army.
He married
Verda Lee Stecher February 3, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Temple. Cameron worked for the Temple Veterans Administration Hospital for 35 years, retiring in 1975. He then worked for the Mill Creek Pro Shop in Salado for 25 years.
He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3444 and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Verda Lee Cameron, of Temple; two sons, Mike Cameron and wife Ruby, of Salado and Paul Cameron and wife Kathy, of Temple; two grandchildren, Blake Cameron and Paige Cameron.
