PATRICIA ANN JENNINGS
Patricia Ann Jennings of Johnson City was taken from her family and friends to be with the Lord Friday, May 9, 2003, at the age of 62.
Patricia was born April 15, 1941, in Jefferson City to Bill and Beatrice Sharp. Patricia was the first of four children.
She is survived by her mother, Beatrice Sharp of Johnson City; two daughters, Tammilyn Bilkie and husband Mike of Galveston, and Wendy Mcllvain and husband David of Johnson City; sister Rebecca Haertner and husband Melvin of Johnson City; brother Charles Sharp and wife Saundra of Dripping Springs and one grandson Zachary Bilkie of Galveston; 14 nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Shirley Smith and husband Louis, aunts, numerous cousins, a wonderful church family and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Mitch Eppler, Johnny Garza, Shane Haertner, Shannon Sharp, Stephan Sharp and Chris Smith.
Services for Patricia were held Monday, May 12, 2003, with the Rev. Greg Steel officiating. She was laid to rest in the Masonic Cemetery in Johnson City.
Pat graduated from Marble Falls High School then went to nursing school in Lufkin where she received her license after graduating #1 in state for that year. Her 42-year nursing career exemplified her loving, caring nature.
In 1962 Pat moved to Johnson City, the place she called home. She was well known and loved by not only her family but also by the community. She will be dearly missed.
Memorial contributions may be given to Austin Hospic in care of the family.
AUDREY B. WEBER
Audrey B. Weber, 83, peacefully passed away at her home surrounded by her loved ones in New Braunfels Monday, May 5, 2003.
Audrey was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Blanco County to Mary Ann and Andrew Marion Cox. Her elementary school years started at age five in Blanco County and continued shortly thereafter in the Dakotas and Colorado where her father was employed. Her family returned to Blanco County several years later where she continued her education, graduating from Blanco High School in 1936.
Audrey married her high school sweetheart, Frank H. Weber, at St. Joseph’s Church in Honey Creek Jan. 12, 1938. This was the beginning of a loving and blessed union.
In addition to being a full-time wife and mother, she assisted her husband for many years in his business, Frank Weber Construction. She kept the books, relayed phone messages, and helped in many other ways.
She passed on a love for books, an appreciation of God’s great earth, and an insatiable quest for knowledge. While her stature was small, her sphere of influence was great. Audrey’s life was filled with love, kindness, patience, wisdom and understanding. Her quiet attention to these traits where displayed in her daily life and profoundly influenced those around her.
Her son, Frank C. Weber, her granddaughter, Rhonda K. Weber, her sister Margiery and husband Paul Marostica and brother-in-law Eugene Scheel preceded Audrey in death.
Survivors include her husband, Frank H. Weber; sister Jean Stanley and husband Bruce of New Braunfels; brothers Curtis Cox and wife Lillian of Bryan, Howard Cox and wife Dolores of Blanco; sister-in-law Elnora Scheel of Marion; brothers-in-law Laurence Weber and wife Lillian of New Braunfels, Walter Weber and wife Irene of San Antonio, Stephen Weber and wife Evelyn of Bastrop; daughters Barbara Hartigan and husband Joseph of
New Braunfels, Betsy Caldwell and husband Herb of New Braunfels, Cathy Hinman and husband Gerald of New Braunfels, Margie Tello and husband John of San Antonio, Mary Schmidt and husband Michael of New Braunfels, and Audrey Ann Barber and husband Ron of New Braunfels; sons John D. and wife Marilyn of New Braunfels, James P. and wife Martha of New Braunfels, and Joe M. and wife Susan of Gonzales; and daughter-in-law Betty Deane Weber of Corpus Christi.
Surviving grandchildren are Joe Paul Hartigan, Donna Vestal, Cindy Boyce, Sandra Harst, James Caldwell, David Caldwell, Byron Weber, Michelle Taylor, Carl Weber, Beverly Weber, Scott Weber, Jason Weber, Tammy Weber, Mary Beck, Pauline Turner, Nicholas Weber, Sarah Weber, Stacy Barth, William Hinman, Travis Hinman, Phillip Karst, Emilie Karst, Allison Karst, Brad Weber, Emily Gray, Kurtiss Schmidt, Jonathon Schmidt, Julia Schmidt, Kevin Schmidt, Kim Barber and Ashley Barber. Thirty-four great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive her. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank two very special caregivers, Nancy Hartfield and Mary Perez.
A Rosary was recited at Saints Peters and Paul Church Wednesday, May 7. A funeral mass was celebrated Thursday, May 8, at Saints Peter and Paul Church with graveside service at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Mausoleum.
Audrey “Granny” was escorted by her grandsons as pallbearers and granddaughters as honorary pallbearers.
The family asks that memorials be made to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School Trust fund, Hope Hospice of New Braunfels, or the charity of one’s choice, in lieu of flowers.
Ernest Oscar (Buddy) Bethke Jr.
Ernest Oscar (Buddy) Bethke Jr. passed away Monday, July 14, 2003, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Kerrville. He was 83 years old.
He was born in North Zulch, TX, Nov. 22, 1919 to Lela Mae Bethke and Ernest O. Bethke Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mildred Schlaneus and Polly Schneider.
His life work included teaching, ranching, and real estate. He graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College with a BA degree in business and teaching. He owned and operated a Day Care in San Marcos for seven years. His teaching career included teaching positions in Bandera, Dripping Springs, and Blanco. The joy of his life was his ranch and his seven grandchildren. Ernest is survived by his wife, Martha Clayton Bethke, and two sons Eric Lloyd Bethke and wife Josane Bethke of Blanco and Gregory Bruce Bethke and wife Emily of San Marcos. Seven grandchildren, Lisa Kae Bethke, Houston; Daniel Campbell Bethke, Austin; Candice Campbell Bethke, Bryan Bethke, Sam Bethke, Max Bethke, and Jesse Rose Bethke all of San Marcos. One sister Ernest Lea Fiddler of San Marcos and one niece and three nephews. Visitation is Wednesday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Crofts Funeral Home in Blanco. Services are Wednesday at 4 p.m. at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Blancowith burial following in the Blanco Cemetery.
Royce Calhoun will officiate and pallbearers are: Daniel, Sam, Max, Bryan, Candice, and Lisa Bethke.
LONNIE WILLIAM BECK
Lonnie William Beck passed away March 11, 2004, at the age of 82 after a long battle with cardiovascular disease.
Mr. Beck was the Blanco High School agriculture teacher from 1949 to 1953. He collaborated with E.J. Hyatt, Johnson City ag teacher, and O.L. Patterson, Blanco County extension agent, to initiate the youth stock show in the early 1950s. Several of his former students continue to work this project, a fact which greatly pleased him.
Mr. Beck completed a B.S. degree in agriculture/education at Texas A&M after service in World War II. Besides his teaching experience at Blanco High School, he taught veterans in Travis County’s agriculture training programs for several years.
He joined the Packers and Stockyards division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1957. He was stationed in Fort Worth until 1963 when he was transferred to Denver, Colorado. One of 87 employees in this regulatory agency, his investigative work took him back and forth across the United States. By 1967, tired of traveling and being away from his family, he founded a real estate firm, the BX Agency, which operated in Montana and Tennessee.
After his retirement in 1987, he moved with his wife back to the Blanco area.
Mr. Beck is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley S. Beck; three daughters, Debra Williams, Lee Beck and Tina Beck; three grandchildren, Eva Wolchover, Taylor Beck Williams and Natalie Wolchover; two sons-in-law, Will Willliams and Chris Scroger; two first cousins, Vivian Awbrey and Mildred Killough; close friend Robert Flowers; plus several relatives and many friends and former students.
After his retirement and return to Blanco, Mr. Beck worked to improve the White Spring Ranch property that his wife and children own. His family will honor his wishes to have his ashes scattered in a private service on the land he so loved.

FRANK K. GIPSON
Frank K. Gipson, 72, passed away March 12, 2004, after a long battle with emphysema and lung cancer. He fought this battle with the same strength, courage and dignity that he lived his life.
He was born on the family homestead in Johnson City May 15,1931, to Clyde and Tempie Maddox Gipson. It was here that he developed his love of the outdoors. As a child, Frank’s favorite past times were breaking horses, hunting and fishing with his brother on the Pedernales River. He passed his love of hunting and fishing to his sons as they spent many hours together on the river and the Texas coast.
Frank was loved as a husband, father, friend and very proud grandfather.
Frank served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he received two purple hearts, two bronze stars and numerous other medals for his service.
After his return to the States, he became a diesel and automotive mechanic, which turned into a lifelong career. Frank had a natural ability and there were very few things that he couldn’t repair. He was looked upon as an expert and a teacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Tempie Gipson, sisters Winona Austin and Ada Nell Devers, and brother Curtis Gipson.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Gipson of Pflugerville; son, Frank S. Gipson and wife Nancy of Round Rock; son David L. Gipson and wife Sheri of Coupland; and grandchildren, Seth and Kelsey Gipson; his sister, Jackie Pearce of Johnson City; and two brothers, Jim Gipson of Buda and Bob Gipson of Austin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Mr. Gipson as pallbearers will be Seth Gipson, George Pearce Jr., Clyde Murdock, Don Murdock, Keith Brenek and Jim Devers Jr.
Honorary pallbearers include Carl Law, Charlie Schnabel, Jerry Murdock, Mike Murdock, Archie Rogers, Ernie Meadows, Larry Deglandon and many other friends.
Visitation was held Sunday, March 14 at Crofts Funeral Home in Johnson City. Funeral services were held Monday, March 15, at Crofts. Interment followed at Rocky Creek Cemetery outside of Johnson City.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and staff of North Austin Medical Center and Lone Star Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Lone Star Hospice.
EARLENE LEIGHTON
Earlene Leighton, 58, of Alvin, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, in Galveston. She was born Oct. 29, 1945, in Blanco to Earl and Louise Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Wilburn Mixx, Earl Smith, and Donald Ray Smith, and sister, Linda Lee Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Dewayne Leighton of Alvin; seven daughters, Judy Lewis of Burnet, Cindy Nagel of Burnet, Dori Aldrich of Canyon Lake, Gladys Leighton of Corpus Christi, April Leighton of Alvin, Crystal Gomez of Galveston and Celeste Falvey of Pensacola, Fl.; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation was held at Crofts Funeral Home Wednesday, March 10. Graveside services were held at the Sandy Cemetery Thursday, March 11, with Rev. Rush as the officiating clergy.
ADDIE MATILDA SULTEMEIER LINDIG
Addie Matilda Sultemeier Lindig was born Nov. 30, 1921, in Sandy and passed away Sunday, March 14, 2004, in Johnson City at the age of 82.
Addie married Felix Lindig Feb. 25, 1941
Addie is survived by one son, Al Lindig and wife Brenda of Johnson City; three daughters, Marilyn Gail Hatcher and husband Allen of Derby KS, Janette Lindig of Austin, Jillian Lindig and husband John Machalski of New York, NY; one sister, Emma Lue Mohle of Lockhart; brother, Otto Sultemeier of Johnson City; two sister-in-laws, Elsie Sultemeier of Fredericksburg and Jewel Sultemeier of Johnson City as well as three grandchildren, Wendy Lindig, Allan Hatcher Jr., and Trent Lindig.
Services for Addie will be held Wednesday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at Crofts Funeral Home followed by the interment beginning held at Rocky Creek Cemetery. Officiating the ceremony will be Pastor William Breen and Brother Joe Jones.
