Melinda Tefft

Melinda Tefft, 40, of Jones Creek, died Monday, March 5, 2001 at Angleton-Danbury Hospital.
Services are pending with Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

Norma Solis

Funeral services for Norma Solis, 56, of Sweeny, will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at Baker Funeral Home Chapel in West Columbia.
She died Sunday, March 4, 2001 in Houston.
Burial will be at Sweeny Cemetery in Sweeny, Texas.
Visitation will be at Baker Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 6, 2001 between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in West Columbia.
Norma was born August 11, 1944 in Newgulf, Texas.
She is survived by her mother, Herlinda Solis of Sweeny; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Cesar Escobar of Sweeny, Yvette and Andrew Perez of Denver, Colorado; sister, Guadalupe Bailey of Sweeny; brothers, Arnold Solis of Columbus, Georgia, Richard and Ronnie Solis of California, Robert Solis of San Antonio, Roy Solis; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Cesar Escobar, Christopher Escobar, Richard Mendia, Arnold Solis, Richard Solis and Roman Solis.

William "Buddy" Dow Lewis

A celebration of life for sharing of memories will be held for William "Buddy" Dow Lewis, 59, of West Columbia, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2001 during graveside services at Brazoria Cemetery with Larry Williams and Father Michael Gemignani officiating.
He died Sunday, March 4, 2001 in West Columbia.
Visitation will be held at Baker Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 6, 2001 between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in Brazoria.
Buddy was born December 6, 1941 in Brazoria, Texas.
He was a member of Pipefitters Local #211 for many years, a former volunteer fireman in Brazoria, previous owner of WW Shortstop in Brazoria, and he loved to fish.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca A. Lewis of West Columbia; son, Chad William Lewis of West Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Brandon Mize of Lake Jackson; brother, Larry Lewis of Phoenix, Arizona; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Ballard of Sweeny, Ruth and Sam Tullos of Trinity, Irene and Lee Cade of Cold Springs, Jearldene and Norm Callihan of Warren, Colene and Ron Clem of Brazoria, Connie and Jack Flippo of Brazoria; step daughters, Latasha Jarc of Blountville, Tennessee, Teresa Roghair of Dallas; grandchildren, Gabby and Brooke Mize of Lake Jackson; brother-in-law, Lewis Bridwell and wife, Brenda and their children, Coy and Chelsey.
He was preceded in death by his son, Billy Shane Lewis; and step-daughter, Rebecca Beard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lewis Bridwell, Lee Cade, Corky Calahan, Ron Clem, George Cox, Jack Flippo, Larry Lewis, Brandon Losack, Ray McGaughey, Brandon Mize, Alan Myers, James Rhodes, Marcus Rabren, Tommy Rabourn and Robbie Rosenbalm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a trust fund for Chad with Amoco Chemical Employees Credit Union, P.O. Box 1488, Alvin, Texas 77512, Ref. Acct #27650.

Dorothy Jean Leticia Mary McFarland

Dorothy McFarland, 58, of Madisonville, died early Sunday, April 15, 2001 at the St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Bryan.
She was born December 30, 1942 to parents, Mary and Harold Weaver in Coleraine, Ireland.
She had worked for many years as a dispatcher for the Madison County Sheriff's Department.
She will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2001 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Madisonville. President Mark Young will officiate.
Interment will be at the Highland Cemetery, Anna, Texas, at a later date.
Dorothy is survived by husband, Raymond A. McFarland, Sr. of Madisonville; sons, Raymond McFarland, Jr. and wife, Beverly of Garland, David D. McFarland and wife, Brenda of Navasota; daughters, Cherie J. Lohner and husband, Daniel of Midway, Cheryl Latham and fiance', Randy French of College Station; sister, Mary Jane Harmond and husband, Ronnie; two brothers, James D. McLaren II and wife, Nancy, Richard McLaren and wife, Nancy; fourteen grandchildren, numerous relatives and friends.
Mrs. McFarland is preceded in death by her father, Harold Weaver; her parents, Richard Durrell McLaren and Mary McLaren; two brothers, Robert Leroy McLaren and Gilbert Ray McLaren.

Edna Earl New

Edna Earl New, 74, of Freeport, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, April 15, 2001.
She came to Freeport, in 1946. She was a faithful and active member of the Velasco Baptist Church.
She was a volunteer with the Women's Auxiliary at Brazosport Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by two sons, David New and wife, Beverly of Austin, Texas, Larry New and wife, Nellie of Brazoria; five grandchildren, Jodi Morse and husband, Jason, Brian New, Nicole Crowe and husband, Reed, Jeromy New and wife, Carly, Tara New; five great-grandchildren, Kailyn Morse, Kyler New, Caleb Morse, Alex Sendgikoski, Cori Crowe; two brothers, Leo Copeland and wife, Shirley of Freeport, Noah Copeland and wife, Kay of Meridian, Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. New and two brothers, Alton Copeland and B.C. Copeland, Jr.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at the Lakewood Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at the Velasco Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Morse and assisted by Rev. Terry Backen officiating.
Pallbearers will be Brian New, Jeromy New, Johnny Glidden, Reed Crowe, Sandy Sendgikoski and Ronnie Alexander.
Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons Cecil Johnson, Stanley Burke, Vernon Sorters, and family members Bud and Eric Wilson.

Joseph Frank Barta

Joe Barta, 89, of Columbia Lakes, passed away April 15, 2001 at Country Village Health Care in Angleton.
Joe was born on August 24, 1911 in Ammonsville, Texas, to Josef and Agnes Stavinoha Barta. \
Mr. and Mrs. Barta lived in Corpus Christi, for 50 years before moving to Columbia Lakes, in 1993 to be near their daughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, seven brothers and his grandson, Jon Ray Jordan.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rex Carleton officiating.
Mr. Barta is survived by his wife of 61 years, Henri Dee Barta; his son, Leon Danchak and wife, Betty of Arlington, Texas; his daughter, Sandra Jordan and husband, Jimmie of Columbia Lakes; four grandchildren, Randy Danchak of Arlington, Cindy Danchak of Thorndike, Maine, Kimberly Woods and husband, Jerry of Arlington, and Kerry Danchak and wife, Stacey of Coral Springs, Florida; four great-grandchildren, Josh, Ben, Victoria and Lydia.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends.
A private burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Corpus Christi.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the Building Fund of Columbia United Methodist Church, 206 E. Jackson, West Columbia, Texas, 77486.

Lillie Klaus

Lillie Klaus, 83, of Clute, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2001 at Woodlake Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Restwood Memorial Park with Alton Koenning officiating.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Stroud Funeral Home.
Lillie Klaus was a Brazosport area resident for over 50 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Debra Klaus of Freeport; sister, Selma Corpron of Las Vegas, Nevada; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Melvin "Ike" Eickenhorst

Funeral services for Melvin "Ike" Eickenhorst, 79, of Angleton, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Church in Angleton with Pastor Stephen Springer officiating.
Burial will follow in Angleton Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Marvin Riewe, Clarence Roesler, Albert Dvorak, James Heck, Charles Schroeder and Robert Klingsporn.
Mr. Eickenhorst was born on December 31, 1921 to Edwin and Lena Becker Eickenhorst in Anderson, Texas.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, was a distributor of the Houston Post for 22 years and a member of St. John Lutheran Church for 30 years.
He died on Sunday, April 15, 2001 at his residence.
Surviving are daughters, Jennifer Eickenhorst of Angleton, Carol Jean Antill of Houston, Peggy Joe Green of Houston; and one brother, Marion Eickenhorst of Houston.

Sally Ruth Williams Turner

Funeral services for Sally Ruth Williams Turner, age 76, were held Monday, April 16, 2001 in the chapel at Rose-Neath Home in Mansfield, Louisiana, with Rev. Leland Wade officiating and Rev. Dick Humphries assisting.
Burial followed at the Mansfield Cemetery.
Mrs. Turner passed away Saturday, April 14, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by husband, Ralph Pershing Turner, and brothers, James and Dee Williams.
She is survived by her sister, Hazel Watkins of Gulf Port, Florida; four children, Tom Turner and wife, Debbie of West Columbia, Bill Turner of Costa Mesa, California, Martha Turner of Bossier City, and Laura Melton and husband, Steve of Mansfield; five grandchildren, Karen Matt and husband, Lance of Lake Jackson, Karla Turner of Houston, Nathan Turner and wife, Nichole of Lake Jackson, and Christy and Mandy Melton of Mansfield; and two great-grandchildren, Jordyn and Kobey Matt.
Mrs. Turner was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Mansfield, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the DeSoto Regional Health System, Board Member of the Mansfield Cemetery Association, and a member of the teaching sorority Delta Kappa Gamma, Mu Chapter.
She retired in 1994, after 30 years of service to the DeSoto Parish School as the Executive Secretary to the Superintendent.
Pallbearers will be Bud Barrow, John Blanchard, Alfred Flanders, John Garmany, Doug Green, A.W. McDonald, Gil Rew, and Steven Stanfield.
Honorary pallbearers will be Leigh Dillard, Walter Lee, Bill Lowrey, Pete Martin, Doug McLaren, Allen Plummer and Raymond Powell.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mansfield's Scholarship Fund or to the DeSoto Regional Health System.
The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to those who supported, cared for, and encouraged our loved one.

Coleen Bullington

Funeral services for Coleen Bullington, 68, of Red Oak, Iowa, formerly of Brazoria, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2001 at Walnut Cemetery in Emerson, Iowa, with Rev. Carlton officiating.
She died Friday, June 15, 2001 in Sweeny.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Shoenberger; husband, Max; sons, Danny and Dennis Bullington; and great-granddaughter, Kelsey Ryan.
Survivors include her sons, Ricky Bullington of Emerson, Iowa, and David Bullington and wife, Christine of Brazoria; daughter, Kathy Earley of Brazoria; brother, Andrew Robertson of Austin; sister, Norma Jordan of Houston; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and "adopted" family.
Honorary pallbearers are Ricky Bullington, David Bullington, Bruce Davidson, Tony Ryan, Donald Ryan, Darrick Earley and Justus Earley.
