Funeral services for Roger B. "Rod" Hatch, 81, of West Columbia, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 13, 2001 at Baker Funeral Home Chapel in West Columbia, with Rev. Reitmeyer
officiating.
He died Wednesday, October 10, 2001 in Angleton, Texas.
Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery, West Columbia, Texas.
Visitation will be held at Baker Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, October 12, 2001 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in West Columbia.
Mr. Hatch was born August 6, 1920 in Alice, Texas. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Angleton, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran in WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Hatch of West Columbia; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Susan Hatch of West Columbia; daughter, Sandra Hatch of Ruidoso, New Mexico; grandchildren, Katherine and Cody Hatch; nephew, Bob Appling of Mathis; nieces, Sarah McCormack of Houston, Marcia Scott of Friendswood; numerous other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Hatch.
Pallbearers will be Jody Elam, Robert Appling, Scott Booth, Michael Anderson, Gene Hightower and Mike Marshall.
Honorary pallbearers will be O. D. Campbell, J. L. Conaway, Joe Doyle, John Gayle, Jr., Roy W. Sloma, Bill Wisch, Bud Wisch, Josh Gilliam, Billy Pugh, Lee Carter, Johnny Keck and Judge W. P. Snead.

Henry Jay Janik, 82, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2001 at Cypress Woods Nursing Home in Angleton, Texas.
Funeral services are pending with Lakewood Funeral Chapel.
LUTHER EARL (PAPA) GARTMAN
Luther Earl (Papa) Gartman, 75, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2001.
Mr. Gartman lived in Clute, from 1951 to 1986. He was employed by Dow Chemical Company for 39 1/2 years in the PolyEthlylene Department. After his retirement from Dow, he and Mavis moved to Grapeland, Texas, for 11 years, returning to live in Lake Jackson, in 1997. Earl was a veteran of World War II. He served as the Commander of the V.F.W. Post 8576 in Clute, Texas, from 1984 to 1985.
Earl is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mavis; four children and their spouses, Janice Doran and husband, Steve of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Kennith Gartman and wife, Peggy of Richwood, Texas, Linda Lowery and husband, Mike McCully of Lake Jackson, Harold Gartman and wife, Joyce of Lake Jackson; seven grandchildren, Lisa Duplechin of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Kenny Gartman, Ken Gartman, Lori Gartman, Robert Gartman, Tanya Lala, Dana Myers; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Faye Burnette Paxton and husband, Don of Athens, Texas; one brother, Glenn Gartman and wife, Barbara of Athens; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and five brothers.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Lakewood Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 12, 2001 at Lakewood Chapel with Rev. Jimmy De La Fuente and Rev. Jay Quinn Gartman officiating.
Pallbearers will be Danny Kellum, Todd Duplechin, Kenny Gartman, Ken Gartman, Mason Nichols and Rob Gartman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Morgan, Donald Bowers, Gene Bagwell, Clarence Kalischko and Hazlett Whitley.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed by many.

ADOLPH BROOKINS, JR.
Funeral services for Adolph Brookins, Jr., 48, of Lake Jackson, will be Saturday, October 13, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lake Jackson Worship Center with Bishop R. Washington, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Restwood Memorial Park in Lake Jackson. He died October 4, 2001 at the V.A. Hospital in Houston, TX.
He attended Charlie Brown High School, graduated from Columbia High School in 1971, and served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam Era.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Brookins of Lake Jackson; three daughters, Miranda Gore and Terry, Robin Brookins, Brandi Brookins, all of Lake Jackson; two brothers, Randy J. Brookins of Clute, Rondell L. Flannel of West Columbia; two sisters, Melverna Lynn Flannel Tolbert and Steven of Clute, Dora Dede Tolbert and Grant Simpson III of Lake Jackson; god-daughter, Veronica DeVerver of Clute; Special Parents (cousins), Rev. Herbert and Bobbie Mackey of Houston; 4 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Deacon Herman Perkins, Sr., Rocky Parkhurst, Randy Brookins, Rev. Vernon Edwards, Steven W. Tolbert, Sr., and Garlon Lawrence Ross.

BONNIE FAY WOOD
Funeral services for Bonnie Fay Wood, 86, of Angleton, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13, 2001 at First United Methodist Church in Angleton with Rev. Chris Tate officiating and burial will follow in Angleton Cemetery.
Friends may call at Palms Funeral Home on Friday, October 12, 2001 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and also on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon.
Mrs. Wood was born to Zack and Jewel Moore Hassell on September 19, 1915 in Palestine, Texas. She was a resident of Angleton, since 1940. She was a previous member of Freeport Methodist Church, a member of 1st United Methodist Church in Angleton, and was also a member of a bridge club. She died on Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at a Houston hospital. Husband, William Henry Wood, and grandson, Michael H. Braswell, preceded her in death.
Survivors include son, Richard H. Wood of Garland, Texas; daughter, Janis Braswell and husband, Pat of Lago Vita, Texas; sisters, Grace French of Baytown, Shari Poole of Post, Texas; four grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

EDNA MERLE ELLIS
Edna Merle Ellis, 91, of Angleton, and formerly of Muleshoe, went to be with the Lord on October 9, 2001.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2001 at Palms Funeral Home. Friends may call on Friday, from 4:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will take place in Earth Cemetery, Earth, Texas at a later time.
Mrs. Ellis was born in Lockney, Texas, on January 25, 1910 to Will and Phoebe Pope. She was a resident of Muleshoe, for over 60 years, and had been an Angleton resident for the past three years.
Surviving are son, Joe Ellis and wife, Minnie of Clute; daughters, Gwen Schmidt and husband, Don of San Jose, California, Etta Milani and husband, Dominic of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Lori Grinstead and husband, Mark of LaPorte, Brenda Green and husband, Jimmy of Angleton, Sherry Roberts of Clute, Donna Milani of Hawaii, Beverly Milani of Denver, Colorado, Gary Schmidt and wife, Gretchen of San Jose, California, Janice Brenner and husband, Horst of San Jose, California; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Tyler and Raegan Green, Mason Mullenhour, Jordan Roberts, Sarah Lynn Bonsall, Ryan, Eric, Sonya and Lisa Brenner, Nicole, Kristin and Courtney Schmidt and special friend Dee Broughton.

Iva "Billie" Goodrum, 80, of Richwood, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at her residence. She shared all she had with family and friends and the love of her life was her family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2001 at 6:00 p.m. at Stroud Funeral Home with Pastor John Haynes officiating.
Visitation will be on Thursday, October 11, 2001 from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be at King Cemetery in Kemp, Texas.
Billie was an area resident for 60 years. She was a loving and generous mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Viola Robertson; brother, Buck Robertson; grandson, Christopher Shiflet; niece, Betty Reed; and nephew, Jim Robertson.
Survivors include three daughters, Bobbie Jo Moss of Clute, Sherry E. Shiflet and husband, Joe of Richwood, Mary L. Ford and husband, Bob of Richwood; sister, Pat Dubre and husband, Doc of Angleton; five grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Johnny Ray Liserio, Sr., 41, of Sweeny, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 13, 2001 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sweeny, with Father Lee Flores officiating.
He died Tuesday, October 9, 2001 in Sweeny, Texas.

Mr. Liserio was born August 8, 1960 in Victoria, Texas. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sweeny, and the Knights of Columbus Council #8548. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Liserio of Sweeny; sons, Johnny Ray Liserio, Jr., Jeremy Liserio and Jason Liserio, all of Sweeny; mother and step-father, Minnie and John S. Martinez of Bay City; father and step-mother, Antonio, Sr. and Olivia Liserio of Bloomington; sisters, Mary Heysquierdo of Wild Peach; Lisa Escamilla of Bloomington; brothers, Antonio Liserio, Jr. of Sweeny, Louis Liserio of Austin, Robert Liserio, Johnny Joe Liserio and Alfonso Liserio, all of Bloomington; mother-in-law, Corina R. Garcia of Sweeny; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Adrian and Esther Galvan, Jose Angel and Brigida Liserio; brother, John E. Martinez; and father-in-law, Henry R. Garcia.

CLAUDIA KNIGHT THOMAS
Claudia Knight Thomas of Lake Jackson, was born April 4, 1942 in New Orleans, and passed away October 4, 2001 in Angleton.
Claudia was a member of the Eastern Star of New Orleans, Beta Sigma Phi, and Lake Jackson Jaycees. She also was a Texas real estate broker for more than 15 years.
Claudia is survived by her sons, Donald Landry, John Landry, Darren Landry and his wife, Chance; daughter, Lynne and her husband, Shane Myers; and granddaughter, Rachel Myers.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 200 Oyster Creek Dr., Lake Jackson, TX.

Darleen Jean Sullivant, 65, of Freeport, Texas, passed away Monday, October 8, 2001 at her residence.
A private family funeral service will be held on December 23, 2001 at Lake Sommerville, in Sommerville, Texas.
She is survived by her three children, Jack and wife, Katherine Sullivant of Brazoria, Texas, Mark Sullivant of Sommerville, Texas and Kellie Sullivant of Freeport, Texas; by 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry and Robert Record, both of Phoenix, Arizona; sisters, Hazel Rippley of Phoenix, Arizona, and Judy Avery of Houston, Texas.
