GEORGE J. RAB

George J. Rab of West Columbia, died Monday, October 8, 2001 at Plantation Health Care Center in Lake Jackson, at the age of 84 years. He was born in Praha, Texas, on February 28, 1917. The youngest child of Emma (Neigebauer) and Vaclav Rab, Jr. He attended public school in Novohrad. George and his wife, Martha (Sternadel) Rab, celebrated 62 years of marriage on September 11. They were married in St. John's Catholic Church in St. John's, Texas.
George served his country as an electrician in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He was stationed in Germany. He retired from Dow Chemical Co. in 1984 with 37 years of service. He was a 54-year member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #716. He was a charter member of St. John's The Apostle Catholic Church in West Columbia; and a member of American Legion Post #503 and West Brazos Knights of Columbus Council #8548. He was well-known for his "Wink." He enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, hunting, gardening, dancing and piddling and was a "jack of all trades" repairman. He was also a Little League coach for many years.
Mr. Rab is survived by his loving wife, Martha and five children: Dorothy Stewart of West Columbia, Barbara Johnson and husband, A. E. "Buddy" of Needville, Nancy Pieper and husband, Raymond of Liverpool, Michael George Rab and wife, Donna of West Columbia, Charles Rab and wife, Jacqueline of Bay City; and a sister, Emma Sternadel of Wharton; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Brenda Sue; son-in-law, Bubba Stewart; his parents; a sister, Mary Cook; and brothers Jim, Emil and John.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Kenneth Poehls of Needville, Jimmy and Lee Stewart of West Columbia, Anthony Pieper of Liverpool, David Pieper of Zurich, Kansas, James Pieper of Caldwell, Charlie Rab of Rosharon, and Johnny Rab of Bay City.
Honorary pallbearers are Robert Rab, Daniel George Rab, Wesley Hubbs, Chris Roche and Eric LaPointe.
Rosary will be held at Baker Funeral Home Chapel in West Columbia, on Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be at St. John's Catholic Church in West Columbia, at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2001. Burial will be in Damon Catholic Cemetery in Damon.
In lieu of flowers, family requests contributions be made to the Hospice Care Team, 107 West Way, Suite 29, Lake Jackson, Texas 77566 or any charity of their choice.
Arrangements are by Baker Funeral Home, West Columbia, Texas.

MERLE "WILDCAT" SSTANLEY WISE, SR.

Merle "Wildcat" S. Wise, Sr., 80, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away Friday, October 5, 2001 in Sugarland, Texas.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2001 at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Rev Dr. Roy G. Taylor of First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at the funeral chapel.
He was born on July 18, 1921 in Bayard, Iowa. Mr. Wise served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 until 1945. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson, Texas, and was active in Little League, Buccaneer Booster Club, and the Lake Jackson Girls Softball. He was a retired member of Operating Engineers Local 450 & 564.
He is survived by his sons, Cary L. and wife, "B.J." of Spring Branch, Texas, Russell Wise of Houston, Texas, Merle S. Wise, Jr. and wife, Cassie of Spring, Texas; by daughter, Lea Ainsworth and husband, Tommy of Galveston, Texas; by six grandchildren; brothers, Robert W. Wise and wife, Wilda of Lake Jackson, Alfred M. Wise, Jr. and wife, Katherine of Brazoria, and James L. Wise and wife, Jan of Sweeny; and sister, Mable Moore of Bastrop. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lajunan Satchell Wise; father, Alfred "Shorty" M. Wise; mother, Grace Wise Town-send; brothers, Harold Lloyd, Donald Ray and Walter Louis; and sister, Diana Rose Wise.
Pallbearers will be the International Brotherhood of Operating Engineers Local 450.
The family request any charitable contributions in Merle's name be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

JERRAL (J.D.) HALL

Jerral (J.D.) Hall, 79, formerly of Lake Jackson, passed away at Memorial Hospital in Lufkin, Texas, on September 5, 2001. Born in Malden, Missouri, to Edwin and Velma Hall on November 27, 1921.
He was a former Dow employee, as was his deceased wife, Inez McQueen Hall having retired and moved to Groveton, Texas. Jerral served his country in WWII, as a motorcycle MP in Europe. He was assigned to transport planes ferrying captured Germans back to England, when the Battle of the Bulge occurred in Belgium and faced several weeks stranded in the coldest winter conditions without adequate shoes. As a result, he suffered frozen feet the rest of his life. Jerral also was assigned to guard General Patton during part of his tour of service to his country, and was a true patriot.
He is survived by brother, Richard Hall of West Columbia, brother, Joe Hall of Lake Jackson; sister, Margaret Jourdan of Alvin and sister, Mary Faircloth of Rosebud, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friend, Bertha Hughes of Groveton, Texas.
Following cremation, a memorial service was held by his family on October 6, 2001, in Lake Jackson, to mark his passing and celebrate his life.

JOHN DELBERT WALKER

John Delbert Walker of Alvin, passed away October 5, 2001 in Webster, Texas. A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 11, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.

LENA LOIS YOUNTS

Lena Lois Younts, 90, of Bay City, Texas, passed away at her home October 9, 2001, after a brief illness. She was born March 28, 1911 in Belton, Texas, to the late George Edwin and Lena Leona Calhoun Fuller. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sweeny. Mrs. Younts resided in Temple, Bay City, and Sweeny, prior to making her final home in Bay City, in 1997. She retired from the Sweeny Telephone Company in 1962 after 24 years of service. She was very active in the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Colonists, Colonial Dames, and Magna Charta Dames.
Her greatest enjoyment was traveling all over the world.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, A. W. and Vernie Younts of Bay City; daughters, Janice Swinford of West Columbia and Delores Younts of Sweeny; sisters, Margaret Wheeler of Cone, Texas and Mildred Foster of Bosie, Idaho; grandchildren, Arthur Rogers, Sidney Rogers, Vonne Davis, Christine Vaughan, Lynn Younts, Carol Younts, Mickey Goolsby, Debbie Hempsmyer and Earl Hassell; 18 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Wilson Younts; daughter, Olivia Nell Younts; grandson, Wilson Younts; sisters, Hassie Lane, Doris Nell King and Christine Poteet; and brother, Charles Fuller.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2001, at the First Baptist Church of Sweeny, with Rev. Jeryl Watkins officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.
Pallbearers will be Lynn Younts, Mickey Goolsby, Robert Goolsby, Earl Hassell, Channing Hempsmyer and Larry Hempsmyer.

MYRTLE HARRISON

Funeral services for Myrtle Harrison, 93, of Angleton, are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2001 at Palms Funeral Home Chapel and graveside services at 3:30 p.m. at Davis Greenlawn Cemetery in Rosenberg.
Friends may call at Palms Funeral Home on Thursday, October 11, 2001 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and also on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time. She died on Tuesday at Angleton-Danbury Medical Center.
Mrs. Harrison was born to Edgar Pete and Margaret Jane Griggs Lambert on February 23, 1908 in Canton, Texas. She was a resident of Angleton, for 27 years and attended 2nd Baptist Church in Angleton. Her husband, Robert Harrison and daughter, Zella "Sissy" Bush preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Johnnie Harrison Reandeau and husband, M. L. of Angleton, Zelda Maxwell and husband, Edward of Cuero, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-and great-great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Dennis McAfee, Bob McAfee, Hal McAfee, Danny McAfee, Wayne Maxwell, Jr., John Maxwell, Bobby McAfee, III, Dennis McAfee, Jr., Clint Maxwell and Clay Cerny.
Honorary pallbearers will be Connie Purcell, Karen Skipper, Terri Hartner, Robbie Maxwell Cerny and Tresa Maxwell Urbanovsky.

LUTHER EARL GARTMAN

Mr. Luther Earl Gartman, 75, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at Specialty Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Funeral services are pending with Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

JOHNNY RAY LISERO

Arrangements for Johnny Ray Lisero, 41, of Sweeny, are pending with Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia, Texas.
He died Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at his residence.

CHARLES KENNETH "BUDDY" GLASSE

Charles Kenneth (Buddy) Glasse, born on September 7, 1928 in Nacogdoches, Texas, died on Thursday, October 4, 2001.
He was a lifelong member of West University Baptist Church. Buddy began his professional life as an exterminator, in partnership with his brother-in-law, Val Carlson, as owners of West University Pest Control.
He was a Past President of the Houston Pest Control Association, a charter member of the Texas Structural Pest Control Board and second-generation owner of Redwood Chemical, Inc. Mr. Glasse was a member of the Arabia Temple Shrine, a 32nd Degree Mason, a veteran of the National Guard, a graduate of Schreiner Institute and a volunteer fireman for West University Fire Department.
Buddy, along with his father, K.P. Glasse, founded a school for the furthering education of those in the pest control industry, teaching classes and mentoring its members.
After retirement, he spent his time in Sargent, Texas fishing, flying and continuing in his active support of the pest control industry.
He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Glasse; children, Kelly Glasse Loftice and husband, Dwayne, Colleen Glasse Haley and husband, Bill; Kayce Glasse, and Christian Glasse.; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Val Carlson; six grandchildren; and one nephew and his family.
A memorial fund has been established at Texas A&M University Entomology Department. Those wishing to contribute are asked to send donations to Texas Pest Control Association, in care of Beth Brooks.
Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, October 8, 2001 at The Settegast-Kopf Co. Funeral Directors, 3320 Kirby Drive. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2001 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Colleen Haley officiating.

ANDREA JACKSON WEBER

Andrea Jackson Weber, 47, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2001, at Seton Hospital, Austin, Texas, after a lengthy battle with cystic fibrosis.
She is survived by her husband, James Weber, daughter, Allison, mother, Florence Jackson Grassman, brother, John G. Jackson, Jr., aunt, Margaret Currie, several cousins and many loving friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Shelly Jackson and her father, John Grady Jackson.
Funeral services were held in Marble Falls, Texas, Sunday, October 7, at 3 p.m., and graveside services will be held in Angleton, at 2 p.m. Monday, October 8, at Angleton Cemetery.

ANNIE BELL NELSON SIMON

Funeral services for Annie Bell Nelson Simon, 78, of Angleton, will be Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church in Angleton, TX, with the Rev. Steven King officiating. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery in Chenango.
She died Friday, October 5, 2001 at Country Village Care in Angleton, TX.
She is survived by 4 sons, Carlos Simon (Judy), Danbury; Jesse Simon (Chauntel), Charles Nelson, Sam Nelson, all of Angleton; 2 daughters, Thelma Hall and Jeanetter Nelson, both of Angleton; two brothers, William Nelson and T.C. Nelson, both of Hearne, TX; 1 sister, Eddie Mae Nelson, Franklin, TX; step-mother Ella Mae Nelson of Hearne; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, friends and other relatives.
Active pallbearers will be Darrell Hall, Rodney Hall, Gary Hall, Marvin Hall, Darwin Nelson and John Ware. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtais Simon, Carlos Simon, Jr., Christopher Hall, Derrick Thomas and Derrick Nelson.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at Dixon Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at New Bethel Baptist Church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. only. There will be no viewing afterwards.
Final arrangements entrusted to Dixon Funeral Home of Brazoria.
