Funeral services for Wilbert Lacy, Jr., 85, of Freeport, will be Saturday, October 6, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at True Honor Baptist Church in Clute, Texas, with Rev. James Williams, Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Gulf Coast Cemetery in Clute, Texas.
He died Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown, Texas.
He was a faithful member of True Honor Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Sarah Lacy of Lake Jackson; five sons, James Allen of Angleton, Troy Lacy of Houston, Sam Allen of Lake Jackson, Rev. Ondra Waddy and Patsy, Raymond Allen, all of Freeport; three daughters, Sondra Nichols and Rogers of Angleton, Sharon Glover, Jo Ann Hawkins, both of Lake Jackson; two sisters, Azalee Burris and Cinderella “Peggy” Burris, both of Baytown; three brothers-in-law, Clinton Green, Barrett Station, Rev. Maurice Shepard and Maybelle of Houston, Dave Shepard of Los Angeles; sister-in-law, Minnie Jammer of Houston; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Jarmen Hawkins, Mike Allen, Ronnell Stoner, Dwight Green, John Moore, Jr. and James Allen.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Allen, James Allen, Raymond Allen, Troy Lacy, Rev. Ondra Waddy, Rogers Denez Nichols, Jr., Rogers Nichols, Michael Williams, Fred Jammer and Robert Joe Allen.
Visitation will be Friday, October 5, 2001 at Dixon Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

EMMA T. (AMASON) WEHRING
Funeral services for Emma T. (Amason) Wehring, 81, of Lake Jackson, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 5, 2001 at First Baptist Church - Brazoria, with Rev. Sealy Smith officiating.
She died Tuesday, October 2, 2001 in Lake Jackson.
Burial will be in Brazoria Cemetery, Brazoria, Texas.
Visitation will be held at Baker Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, October 4, 2001 between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in Brazoria.
Mrs. Wehring was born September 6, 1920 in El Maton, Texas. She was retired from Dow Chemical after 32 years of employment, a member of the Brazoria County Trailriders Association for many years and was an avid Astro fan. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, W. H. “Slim” Wehring.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Jimmie Wehring of Clute, Jack and Tina Amason of Brazoria, Wesley Wehring of Clute; daughters, Carol Kiefer of Grapeland, Ruth Ellis of Somerville; brothers, Gerald Terry of Washington, Oklahoma, Nolan “Buddy” Terry of Hitchcock; sisters, Faye Kukuk of Moore, Oklahoma, Doris Midkiff of Beasley; grandchildren, Terri and Michael Jones of Bluff Dale, Aimee and Farrell Church of Angleton, Justin and Shelly Wehring of Angleton, Shari and Kim Hawkins of Rosharon, Micki and Steve Taterka of Angleton, Kristi and Brett Reynolds of Brazoria, Tori Amason of Brazoria, Connie and Jack Moffett of Yoakum, Michael and Susan Kiefer of Grapeland, Vaneesa and Guy Davis of D’Hanis; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Tyler, Sara, Wade, Kaleb and Faith, Henry, Sarah, Joseph, Walker and Carrie.

JAMES STEVEN (STEVE) MAYBEN
James Steven (Steve) Mayben of Midland, Michigan, died of interstitial lung disease Sunday, September 30, 2001 at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. He was 41.
Steve was born February 13, 1960, in Fort Worth, Texas, to James and Gail (Smith) Mayben. He graduated from Eastern Hills High School in 1978. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in business management and marketing from Abilene Christian University in 1982 and a Master’s Degree in international business from Texas Tech University in 1984. He also earned an Associate's Degree in culinary arts from the Culinary Institute in Houston, in 1994.
Steve married Barb Shelton in 1987. They lived in Texas for the first 10 years of their marriage, then moved to Alberta, Canada, for four years, before moving to Midland earlier this year.
During his life, Steve was a master of many talents. His professional pursuits included contract negotiating and supply chain management at two corporations, ownership of a culinary consulting and catering business, a chef at the Houston Ritz Carlton Hotel, as well as other restaurants, and a university instructor in Canada, and the U.S. He was most recently employed by Northwood University in Midland.
Steve’s personal pursuits included cooking for family and friends as well as charitable organizations, playing golf and tennis, studying current events, riding motorcycles, building model airplanes, traveling, reading, woodworking, and much more. All these pursuits and talents were combined with his remarkable abilities to give of himself and make people laugh.
Survivors include wife, Barb, and his Dalmatian, Blue, of Midland; his mother, Gail Mayben-Fincher of Azle, Texas; two sisters, Kim McCall and her husband, Mark of Waco, Texas, and Jennifer Moore and her husband, Rusty, and two sons, Nathan and Cory of Decatur, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, James.
A memorial service celebrating Steve’s life will be conducted in Dallas, Texas, Saturday, October 6, 1:30 p.m. at the Highland Oaks Church of Christ. JESSE VERNON CLARK
Jesse Vernon Clark, age 74, of Lake Jackson, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 2, 2001, at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 5, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Leo Wleczyk officiating.
Visitation will be on Thursday, October 4, 2001, 5-8 p.m. at Stroud Funeral Home.
The family would receive comfort from having family and friends join them in rosary and scripture beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Interment will be at Restwood Memorial Park immediately following the church service.
Jesse was an avid gardener and friend of the outdoors. He enjoyed all that the Texas Gulf Coast and the Hill Country provided.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Anna Trahan Clark; three sons, Michael Clark and wife, Beverly of Klein, Philip Clark and wife, Donna of Richwood, Gregory Clark and wife, Ellen of Granville, Ohio; daughter, Stephanie Stacks and husband, Calvin of Lake Jackson; 8 grandchildren, Audra Olshen and husband, Andrew of New Orleans, Brian Stacks and wife, Lori of Pearland, Shonda Harwell and husband, Shane of Freeport, Jacob Clark of Austin, Melissa Clark of Klein and Austin, Larsen and Miles Clark of Granville, Ohio. He is also survived by two great-grandsons, Stefen Harwell of Freeport, and Kyle Stacks of Pearland; brothers, Walter Clark of Baton Rouge and Melvin Clark of Ferriday, Louisiana; Veronica and Gilbert Bohslav of Lake Jackson, who are the best neighbors a person could have; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Jose “JJ” Joel Velasquez, 40, of Richwood, Texas, was called home on Saturday, September 29, 2001.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Clute, with Father Jim Lynes officiating. Burial will follow at the Laguna Seca Ranch Cemetery in Edinburg, Texas.
A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
Jose has been an area resident for almost 15 years and worked as a craftsman for Dow Chemical Company.
He is survived by his wife, Tracy of Richwood, Texas; by children, Christopher, Vanessa, and Priscilla Velasquez of Lake Jackson, Texas; by step children, Maria and Cristina Salazar and Shaun Garza of Richwood, Texas; by parents, Gabriel and Frances Velasquez of Pharr, Texas; by sisters, Cynthia Bravo and husband, Herman of Lake Jackson, Texas, Erlinda Velasquez of Pharr, Texas and Lauri Salazar and husband, Nick of San Juan, Texas; and by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

ALICE MARIE JACOBSON
Alice Marie Jacobson, 61, of Freeport, Texas, passed away at Hermann Hospital on September 29, 2001.
Services were held at her daughters home on September 30, 2001.
She is survived by her brother and sisters, Mary Hudson of Arkansas, Louise Stephenson of Freeport, Jerry Hensley and Edith Cannon, both of Trinity. Her surviving children are, Lanita Sills and Lloyd Clayton, both of Freeport, Tammy Stearman of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Sammy Jacobson, Jr., of Freeport. She had six grandchildren, Roxanne Ferdig of Iowa, Rickey Ferdig and Shelby Ferdig, both of Ft. Myers, Florida, Shawn Gaither of Lake Jackson, Ryan Gaither of Freeport, Clyde Clayton of Bay City; and one great-grandchild.
Arrangements were by Freeport - Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

JUDITH P. LEAL
Judith P. Leal, 67, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died on October 1, 2001, in Oyster Creek, after a brief battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church with Father Bill Somerville officiating.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 2, 2001 from 5-8 p.m. at Stroud Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m.
Interment will be at Restwood Memorial Park.
Judith was born in Guerrero, Mexico, on June 8, 1934, to Crisoforo and Manuela Gonzalez Pena.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marisa Gabriela Leal.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Arturo A. Leal, Sr.; children, Juanita J. Leal, Pat L. Keaton and husband, Larry, Jaye L. Holcomb and husband, Gregg, Arturo A. Leal, Jr. and wife, Ellen, Cindy L. Rachunek and husband, Phillip; grandchildren, Phillip and Amy Keaton, Aaron and Andy Holcomb, Cody and Zack Leal, Tiffany Rachunek; brother, Eluid Pena and wife, Laura and children; brothers-in-law, Cesar Leal, Humberto Leal his wife, Idalia; several nieces and nephews, including Ana Belinda Landin, who was like another daughter to her; longtime friends, Gloria and Roberto Mares, Maggie and Rafael Carrillo; many good friends and neighbors who have supported and loved her through the years.
