ALVERA EDITH PRAZAK WILLIAMS
Alvera Edith Prazak Williams, 57, of Angleton, Texas, passed away after a lengthy illness, Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, Texas, with her family by her side.
She was born to Alvin & Edith Prazak at the Freeport Hospital on January 21, 1944. Alvera was a lifetime area resident. She attended Velasco Elementary School and Velasco Junior High, then graduated from Brazosport High School in 1962. After graduation, she attended Wharton Junior College and obtained her nursing degree. She worked as a nurse for 36 years. The last 25 years of her career, she worked for Dr. James Stewart in the allergy clinic. Alvera was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson, Texas. Alvera loved to travel and go camping and fishing with her friends and family. Some of the things she enjoyed the most were the times spent visiting her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her High School sweetheart and husband of thirty-six and one-half years, Nealon Williams of Angleton; two children, Derek Nealon Williams & wife Kimberly of San Antonio and Stacy Lynn Adams of Grapevine; three grandchildren, Ashley, Alexandra and Blake; mother, Edith Ann Prazak of New Braunfels; two sisters, Roberta McCollum & husband Harold of Bedford and Loretta Jennings of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Prazak.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2002 at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Clute, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2002 at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Dr. John Hatch officiating.
Interment will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Lost Prairie Cemetery, near Groesbeck, Texas with Rev. Clifton Jones officiating.
Pallbearers will be Royce Williams, Joe Williams, James Williams, Boe Pierce, Larry Stefka and Bobby Psencik.
The family requests that donations be made to cancer research.

Funeral services for Galeo Soria, 76, of Angleton, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2002 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Angleton, Texas with Father Jamie Abercrombie officiating
Burial will follow at Angleton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2002 and from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2002, with a Rosary service being held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2002 at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton.
Mr. Soria was born to Jose and Refugia Gomez Soria on October 16, 1925 in Angleton. He retired from the U.S. Post Office after 30 years of service and operated Soria’s Gulf for many years.
Sisters, Mary Hernandez and Delores Davis; as well as two brothers, Trine Soria and Porfirio Soria, precede him in death.
Mr. Soria died Tuesday, January 15, 2002 at Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Cristina Soria of Angleton; step-children, Luis Estrada & wife Bertha of McAllen, Ramiro Estrada & wife Rosie of Houston, Janie Garcia & husband Luis of Pharr, Maria Estrada and Roy Estrada of Angleton; grandchildren, Melinda Sauceda and Roy Estrada, Jr., and 14 other grandchildren; five brothers and their wives, Johnny & Mary Soria, Gonzalo & Doris Soria, George & Delfina Soria, Sam & Rafi Soria of Angleton, Julian & Margaret Soria of Houston; two sisters, Hope Botello of Lake Jackson and Nieves Soria of Freeport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Robert Rosilez, Timothy Rosilez, Martin Soria, David Soria, Jeff Soria and Mathew Soria.

KELLY LAVAN THOMPSON
Funeral services for Kelly Lavan Thompson, 37, of Brazoria, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2002 at Dixon Funeral Home Chapel in Brazoria, Texas with Bro. Doug Raymer officiating.
Burial will be in Brazoria Cemetery.
He died Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at UTMB in Galveston, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2002 at the Dixon Funeral Home Chapel in Brazoria.
He is survived by his father, Ernest Lavan Thompson of Brazoria; mother, Verna Hodges (Roy) of Clute; one son, Tracey Thompson of Lake Jackson; one brother, Jimmy Dale Thompson of Clute; grandparents, Ernest and Jewel Thompson of Brazoria; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

BARBARA HOYT COGDELL
Barbara Hoyt Cogdell was born on July 27, 1935 in Wheaton, Missouri to the union of Maurice & Pearl Hoyt.
She passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2002, at the age of 66.
Barbara was a very sweet person, she never met anyone she didn’t like and everyone liked her, she loved to fish and visit with friends at the lake. She was a member of Lakeland Baptist Church in Lewisville, Texas and played violin for First Baptist in Dallas.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmie Cogdell of Demi John Island, Freeport; her mother; daughter, Cheri Snead; brother, Max B. Hoyt of The Woodlands; sister, Rowena Stephens; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2002 at SouthPark Funeral Home in Pearland.
Burial will follow in SouthPark Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2002 at SouthPark Funeral Home.

LEE YOUNG, SR.
Mr. Lee Young, Sr., peacefully entered into Eternal Peace Monday, January 14, 2002.
He was born January 17, 1921 in Sandy Point, Texas.
He was the son of the late Jessie Young and Mrs. Carrie Hall.
Mr. Young will have his celebration of life service at 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 19, 2002. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2002. Both services will be held at the Bethel Baptist Church in Freeport, Texas, where he was a faithful servant and member for 55 years.
He is survived by his son, Lee Young, Jr., daughter, Cheryl White & husband, Wardell; two brothers, Freddie Hall and Will Hall; seven grandchildren, Jacqueline Young-Hall & husband, Rahn, Anitra Dudley-Gratton, Felicia Young, Wardell White, III, Iman Young, Ta Nia White and Aneshia Young; three great-grandchildren, Brittany Hall, Savannah Hall and Myles Gratton; and two God-daughters, Gwendolyn Owens and Keyra Green.

LEONARD D. DEERE, JR.
Leonard D. Deere, Jr., 81, left us to join his maker on Wednesday, January 16, 2002.
He was preceded in death by his son, L.D. “Davey”, III.
He is survived by his charming and gracious wife, Jean.
Survivors: Mrs. A.T. “Catherine” Deere, Jerry Deere & wife Debbie of Lake Jackson, Mrs. Paul D. Knight of Evanston, Illinois, Donald Deere & Patsy of Arlington, Donald Deere, Jr. & Patsy of College Station, family of Michael Perry of Tulsa, Penny and Patti Perry of Dallas and cousins.
Upon graduation from his beloved Breckenridge, Texas High School, he majored in aeronautical engineering at NTAC (now UTA, Arlington) and Texas A & M. Early June 1940, to late October, 1945, he served as a civilian engineer for the U.S. Army Air Corps San Antonio Air Depot. He joined Dow Chemical, Freeport. He was active in Brazosport and Brazoria County civic affairs and established and chaired the Brazoria County MS Society Sub-Chapter in memory of MS victim and Aggie great, Jitterbug Henderson. He served two terms as President of Brazoria County A&M Club, Councilman on Former Student Association Council. Eagle Scout, active in Brazosport Scouting, member of Grace Presbyterian Church, Houston Forum, Houston and Katy A&M Clubs, A&M Diamond Century Club, Parsons Mounted Calvary Association, Aggie Corp. Association, UTA-Arlington Century Club, National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame, Houston Touchdown Club, Houston Athletic Committee. National Aviation Hall of Fame, Air Force Foundation, Air and Space Museum, Air and Space Society, American Air Museum in Britain. Confederate Air Force’s West Houston Squadron.
It was Mr. Deere’s wish to be cremated.
Graveside services will be held at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro, Texas, at a later date.
