Sam Webb, 71, of Alvin passed away Monday, January 14, 2002 in Webster, Texas.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 15, 2002 from 12 noon to 9:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at the Oak Park Funeral Home Chapel in Alvin, Texas.
Interment will follow in the Oak Park Cemetery.

Leonard Martin Vaught
Leonard Martin Vaught, 78, of West Columbia, Texas, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston.
Leonard was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Munkstown, Texas, to Ed and Jewell Vaught.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
During his military career, he served in the 36 Division and during the Italy and France campaign and was held as a prisoner of war in Germany.
Leonard graduated from Southern Methodist University and received his master’s degree from the University of Texas.
He worked for the U.S. Corps of Engineers, E.I. DuPont and retired from Dow Chemical Co.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0503.
Leonard also was a member of Columbia United Methodist.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Vaught, of West Columbia; three children: Elliott L. Vaught of Houston, Karl M. Vaught and wife Pam of San Antonio, Sheryl E. Sherbrook and husband Phillip of Angleton; three step-children: Susan Gosler and husband Richard of Galveston, Vickie Gosler of Houston and Greg Gosler of Houston; five grandchildren: Duane Sherbrook, Travis Vaught, Sarah Sherbrook, Tyler Vaught and Austin Vaught; one brother, Edward L. Vaught and wife Ann of Sherman; brother-in-law, James Earl Riley and wife Wanda of Pensacola, Fla.; sister-in-law, Mary D. Thompson and husband Freddie of Coatesville, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Doris Jean Vaught.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakewood Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2002, at Columbia Methodist Church with the Rev. Rex Carleton officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ernest Harnden, Howard Parker, Jack Newport, A. Carroll, Eddie Groth and Duane Sherbrook.

Joyce Ullrich Bailey
Joyce Faye Ullrich Bailey, 65, of Angleton, Texas, took her last breath here and her first breath in heaven on January 11, 2002, after a two-year courageous battle with cancer.
She was at home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Donna, Texas, on September 22, 1936, to Leonard and Thelma Ullrich.
After moves to the New England area, the family moved to Texas, and settled in Angleton.
It was here Joyce married Donald T. Bailey and began a life together of more than 45 years.
Joyce loved her Lord and served him for 30 years as the church secretary at First Baptist Church in Angleton.
Her heart and soul belonged to God, and she served him faithfully through her love of her family and her friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Thomas Ullrich, and her brother, Alvin Ray Ullrich.
She is survived by her husband, Donald T. Bailey; mother, Thelma L. Morgan; children, Wade and Karen Bailey, Lisa and George Lampe and Debbie and Robert Brown; sister and brother-in-law, Lynne and Mike Lusk.
The true light of Joyce’s life was found in the laughter and smiles of her grandchildren, Chris Sappington, Quinton Bailey; Bailey Jo, Daniel and Jack Brown; Michael, Olivia and Julia Lampe.
"Meme's" legacy will live long through these precious blessings.
Joyce leaves behind nieces, nephews and loved ones too numerous to name.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Mike Moran, Dale Moran, Billy Don Moran, Doug Moran, Timmy Drapela, Matthew Garney, Michael Garney, Richard Vassar, Gary Vassar and Steve Thacker.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of First Baptist Church.
A special thanks to Hospice Care Team of Lake Jackson.
These special angels were sent to guide us through such a difficult valley.

Mattie Louise Houston
Mattie Louise Houston, 96, of Freeport, Texas, passed to be with her Lord on January 11, 2002.
Mrs. Houston was born Dec. 29, 1905, in Dubach, La.
She as a resident of Freeport from 1941 until moving to Garden Gate, assisted living in Lake Jackson, Texas, in 1997.
She as a member of and a Sunday school teacher for the Junior Department at the First Baptist Church of Freeport.
Mrs. Houston was also a member of the WMU.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Drinnon Houston.
She is survived by two daughters: Virginia Hailey of Freeport and Bettie Wood of Tuscon, Ariz.; five grandchildren: Judy Hailey, David Hailey, Deanie Wood, Willie Wood and Daryl Wood; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. until service time Monday at Freeport Funeral Home.

Mary McLane Powell
Mary McLane Powell, 82, of Freeport, Texas, passed from this life on Friday, January 11, 2002.
Her husband of 58 years, Mark Y. Powell; and a brother, Jerry McLane and wife LaVon of Denver, Colorado, survives her.
She leaves behind nieces, nephews and relatives and friends too numerous to name.
She was born in Beaumont, Texas, on March 3, 1919, to Charles and Florence McLane.
After arriving in Freeport in 1947, Mary worked for several years at Curry Motor Company, and then moved to the First Freeport Bank, where she retired.
She was a longtime member of the Freeport Lioness Club.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, Charles, Floyd, Willard, Ernest and Joe McLane.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2002, at Freeport Funeral Home in Freeport, Texas.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2002, at at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Clute, Texas, with the Rev. Paul Ryan officiating.

William Edgar “Bill” Skinner, Jr., 61, of Brazoria, Texas, died Thursday, January 10, 2002, in Houston.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2002, at Baker Funeral Chapel in West Columbia with Dr. Jack Chastain and Rev. David Pate officiating.
Visitation was from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Baker Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Sweeny Cemetery in Sweeny, Texas.
Mr. Skinner was born Thursday, July 25, 1940, in Freeport, Texas, to William Edgar, Sr. and Dicey Autrey Skinner.
A lifelong area resident, he was a member of First Baptist Church Shady Acres, where he was a deacon and also served as music director for 25 years.
He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1975.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Charlotte Skinner of Brazoria; son and daughter-in-law, William Neil and Tracey Skinner of Sugar Land; daughters and sons-in-law, Janey and Jody Skinner of Sweeny and Wendy and Keith Harris of Missouri City; brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Dana Skinner of Brazoria; sister, Peggy Skinner of Freeport; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Deacons of First Baptist Church Shady Acres will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made on Bill’s name to the M.D. Anderson Leukemia Society.

Patrick K. Forrest

Patrick K. Forrest, 78, of Richwood, Texas, passed from this life on Sunday, January 6, 2002.
He was born to Nancy Killough Forrest and Saint Patrick Forrest on April 22, 1923 in Lott, Texas.
Pat was in the 41st Troop Carrier Squadron during WWII and was very proud of his service to our country.
After the war, he married the light of his life, Irene Esslinger, and they moved to the Brazosport area in 1952.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Clute.
He was a member and Chief Emeritus of the Richwood Volunteer Fire Department.
He was employed by The Dow Chemical Company for 33 years.
After retirement, Pat became involved more heavily in volunteer work in the community.
He was a volunteer with over 2,000 hours at Sea Center Texas in Lake Jackson.
He served on the Richwood Beautification Committee for many years.
He dearly loved all children and spent many hours at area elementary schools.
He taught fire safety and was "Grandpa" to many children on Grandparent’s Day at Polk Elementary School and Our Lady Queen of Peace in Richwood.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2002, at First Baptist Church of Clute with Bro. Mark Cox officiating.
Burial will follow at Stranger Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Truman Bowles, Steven Joe Boykin, Rick Cary, Billy Crain, Gary Majors and Bill Reed.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Richwood Volunteer Fire Department.
Pat is preceded in death by his wife and true love, Irene Esslinger Forrest; his parents, Nancy Killough Forrest and Saint Patrick Forrest; and three siblings, Minette, Johanna and Carl.
Pat leaves behind nieces, nephews and loved ones too numerous to name.
All who came into contact with Pat felt loved and very few left his presence without a hug.
