Darrell Duane Pirtle
Darrell Duane Pirtle, 70, of Lake Jackson died on November 23, 2000 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 27, 2000 at 12:30 p.m. at Stroud Funeral Home with Rev. Byron Sunderman officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time. Interment will be at Restwood Memorial Park.
Pirtle was a Brazosport area resident for 46 years and served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He is preceded in death by his wife Delores Pirtle.
Survivors include two daughters Deatrice Schroedter and husband Jeffrey of Angleton and Derre Schuster and husband Woody of Sweeny; two sons Duane Pirtle and Darst Pirtle and wife Patrice, both of Lake Jackson; two brothers John Pirtle and wife Billie of Brazoria and Allan Pirtle and wife Marcitta of Indiana; two sisters Vera Rusk and husband Gene of West Columbia and Barb Pirtle of Indiana; five grandchildren Darrin, Dylan and Jordan Pirtle, and Darlene Heard and Deannia Thompson; four great-grandchildren Joy Pirtle, Lyndon Heard, Brandon and Corey Thompson; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Dimple Luvica Lowry Haakman
Dimple Luvica Lowry Haakman passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2000 surrounded by her family at the Plantation Health Care Center as the result of bone marrow cancer. She was the daughter of Albert Fred and Ethyl Mae Roach Lowry, born in Slick, Oklahoma on March 12, 1923.
Dimple moved to Sapulpa, OK. at a young age and graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1940, where she received many honors. She was active in theater and attended girls state drama competition.
In 1952 she moved to Lake Jackson, Texas and worked for James F. Crews CPA Firm and later at Dow Chemical. She attended Sapulpa Junior College and the University of Houston and achieved her certification as a professional secretary in 1955, as the first woman in Brazoria County to receive a CPS.
On December 26,1957, she married the love of her life, John Englebert Haakman. She is honored in memory by her husband of 42 years, John, of Lake Jackson, Texas. Three children: Hans Haakman and wife Cheryl of Austin, Texas, Theresa Brittain and husband Mark of Austin, Texas, Andrea Haakman of Dallas, Texas. Mother: Ethyl Mae Lowry of Sapulpa, OK. Three sisters: Bettie Crews of Sapulpa OK, Bert Ellen Davis and husband Sam of Sapulpa, OK, Jenny Parker and husband Jerry of Tulsa OK, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Dimple was preceded in death by her father and her infant grandson Trevor Brittain.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Dimple was active in the Brazosport Little Theater in the fifties and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she was recently recognized as a fifty year member. Her genuine concern for others earned her countless friends. She will be remembered for her charm and devotion to her family and died she just as she lived with great courage and dignity.
The family would like to extend their special thanks to the many care givers and friends who provided Dimple with Love and care in her final days. They wish to express their gratitude to her primary physician Dr. Irvin Sabrsula and Oncologist Dr. E. Falcon and staffs for their compassionate medical care and personal concern during her long illness. A vigil service will be held at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Sunday with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. with Father Leo Wleczyk officiating. The family invites you to join us in honoring and celebrating her life at the mass of Christian burial at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Lake Jackson, Texas on Monday, November 27, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Leo Wleczyk officiating. The rite of committal will be at Restwood Cemetery.

Earl Charles McCormick
Earl Charles McCormick, 68, of Angleton, affectionately known by the family nickname of "Pills," devoted husband, father & grandfather, died peacefully at home November 24, 2000, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family and friends as he left this world to join his baby daughter, parents, brother & sisters in heaven. Born to Earl B. & Audrey McCormick, March 9, 1932, near Eagle Lake, Texas, he graduated from San Marcos High School and attended SWTU before being called to active duty in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. Bremerton CA-130 off the coast of Korea, during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he returned to San Marcos, to join his father farming and ranching. Later, he became a machinist but never lost his love for farming and ranching.
Survived by his wife, Sarah Thompson McCormick, sons & daughters-in-law, Kenneth Earl & Shelly Sbrusch McCormick of Angleton, Charles Thomas & Susan Sablatura McCormick of Austin, Joel Allan & Molly Miller McCormick of Alvin; grandsons, Robert Earl, Matthew, Nathan & Jacob; granddaughters, Blake Elizabeth & Kayley Elaine McCormick; sister & brother-in-law, Bonnie & Jerrell Erdmann of Croton, South Dakota; aunt & uncle Charles & Georgia McCormick of Temple, Texas; aunt, Mary Smith of Austin, Texas; many nephews & nieces, cousins-in-laws & friends that loved him. He will never be forgotten. We will carry love & fond memories of him within our hearts forever.
Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Monday, in the Northway Baptist Church with Rev. Kent Pate officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lakeside Cemetery in Eagle Lake.

Josie L. Gentry
Mrs. Josie L. Gentry, age 80, of Angleton, Texas, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, in the Angleton Danbury Medical Center. Mrs. Gentry was born on Oct. 1, 1920, in Soper, Oklahoma, and was a resident of Angleton, for six years and a resident of Detroit, Michigan, for most of her life. She was a retired beautician and was a member of the First American Lutheran Church, San Marcos, Texas. Mrs. Gentry was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman G. Gentry, in 1996 and by her parents, John and Minnie Johnson.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Marcie and Bob Murphy, of Angleton; sons and daughter-in-law, James F. and Kathy Gentry of Glen Bernie, Maryland, Thurman Gentry, II of Wayne, Michigan, and Charles E. Gentry of San Francisco, California; sisters, Sylvia Mantel of Livonia, Michigan, and Mollie Massingill of Moore, Oklahoma; brother, Herbert Johnson of Roseville, Michigan; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, in the Froberg Funeral Home Chapel in Alvin, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, in the Froberg Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Doug Scherer officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Monday, at the VA Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas. Arrangements under the direction of Froberg Funeral Home, 115 North Hill Street, in Alvin.

Paul Terrell
Funeral services for Paul Terrell, 79, of Danbury, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Palms Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Danbury Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Palms.
Mr. Terrell passed away Thursday November 23, 2000 at his residence. He had lived in Danbury since 1997.
Mr. Terrell was born November 11, 1921 in Huron, Indiana, to Charles and Bertha Owens Terrell. He worked in the coal mines in Indiana, on the railroad and in brick yards. He went into the Army when he was 21 years old, where he served under General Patton. After returning from Germany, he drove a truck for several years and became a welder and mechanic. He retired in December of 1997.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Terrell, of Danbury; sons, Larry Terrell of Danbury, and Donnell Terrell of Shoals, Ind.; daughter, Marjorie Graham of Clute; sisters, Pauline Johnson, Maxine Taylor and Martha Blessinger of Arkansas. Eldean Gibbs and Dolly McClough of Shoals, Ind., and Lavanda Kradel of Texas; brothers, Charles Terrell and Laverne Terrell of Shoals, Ind.
He is also survived by grandchildren, Michael Graham of Austin, Melissa Graham of Brazoria, and Mandy Graham of Clute.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronnie Paul Terrell; sisters, Helen Payne, Irene Gammon, Francis Sellers; and brother, Frank Terrell.
Pallbearers will be Larry Terrell, Billy Graham, Mike Stone, Larry Strebeck, Buckie Terrell and Bo Renfro.

Thelma Esta Smith
Thelma Esta Smith, 76, of Surfside, Texas, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2000 at her residence. She was born in Pangburn, Arkansas, on October 15, 1924. She worked as a PBX Operator with Texas Natural in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and transferred to Houston in 1963 to work for Union Texas Petroleum/Allied Chemical. She retired to Surfside Beach, after working 15 years for Carl Smith at Harris Counties offices in downtown Houston. She was a member of the Methodist Church and active in the Save Our Beach Association in Surfside. Many people will know her as Mrs. Santa Claus during Christmas time at Stahlman Park.
Thelma is survived by her loving husband, Robert Granville Smith; daughters, Janice Ann Spencer and Jeanne Marie Hart & husband, Rick, and son, Robert Granville Smith, Jr.; grandchildren, Derek Anthony Hart, Corey Alexander Hart, Kayla Ann Smith; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Essie Curry and recently by her brother, Glenn Curry.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2000 at The Anchor First Church of Surfside, 123 Surf Drive in Surfside, TX., with Rev. John Force officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Richard Hart, H.L. Owen, Ray Wilkenson, Duffy Monroe and Ron Grant.
Interment to follow the funeral services at Restwood Cemetery. We were blessed to be with Thelma. She made our lives better, and she will always be with us in our hearts and memories.

Uba Courtney
Graveside services for Uba Courtney, 83, of Avinger, Texas, were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 24, 2000, at Mims Chapel Cemetery in Lone Star, Texas.
He was born December 17, 1916 in Pineville, Alabama, and passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2000 at his residence.
He was a member of Seventh Day Adventist and was retired from Dow Chemical. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Alverna Courtney of Avinger; two sons, Phillip Courtney of Avinger, and Alva Patrick Bey Mitchel of Beaumont; one daughter, Ginger Ann Fry, of Tomball; two sisters, Gladys Hebert of Port Arthur, and Agnes Hayes of Beaumont; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Miguel (Robert) Koole
On this glorious day, March 3, 2001, our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was granted eternal peace at the age of 72 and has joined Mom to watch over, help and protect all they loved, not only family, but the entire community of Freeport. Dad was fun, determined, and courageous, qualities which sustained his valiant battle against cancer. He peacefully passed away at St. Luke's Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. We admire him for his bravery, and he will always be loved and remembered for his beautiful smile and generosity to all.
He was born in Tampico Tamaulipas, and has been a resident of Freeport for over 50 years. Dad has also been a shrimp boat captain for over 50 years, twice named the top producer, "King of the Fleet." He was especially proud and boasted of being the "oldest active captain" in the area and still working for Western Seafood.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Anita Hernandez Koole; parents, Cornelius and Margarita G. Koole; sister, Rosa Maria Koole; and brother, Mario G. Koole. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Marshall of Houston, Texas; son, Eulalio Jauregui and wife Laura of Hempstead, Texas; son, Bobby Koole of Lake Jackson; son, Mario T. Koole of Freeport; daughter, Marguerite A. Koole of Dallas, Texas; son, Thomas E. Koole and wife Angela of Freeport; and daughter, Deborah A. Koole and husband Pete Resendez of San Antonio, Texas; 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Recitation of Holy Rosary will be Tuesday March 6, 2001, 7 p.m. at Freeport Funeral Home, 731 W. 2nd Street. The funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2001 10 a.m. at St. Henry's Catholic Church, 318 E. 5th Street, Freeport, Texas, with Father Jose Sanchez officiating.
Pallbearers will be Cornelio G. Koole, Richard Rangel, Silvestre Sauceda, Octavio Tijerina, Fernando Vela, and Pedro Velasquez. Honorary pallbearers are Hector Gonzales, Artemio Perez, Santos Rangel Jr. Reinaldo Reyna, Pasqual Robles and Ignacio Salazar.
