Elsie May Winn Spear
Memorial Services are set for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at 2nd Baptist Church in Angleton for Elsie May Winn Spear, 77, of Danbury. Pastor Roy McClung will officiate. Ms. Spear passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2001 in a Houston hospital.
Elsie May Winn Spear was born June 15, 1923 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, to William John and Minnie Henrietta Eliza Burchell Winn. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Doris Kinsella.
Survivors include her daughters, Carollynn Wray Black and her husband, Howard of Houston and Joanne Elaine Puryear and her husband, Michael of Danbury; sisters, Myrtle James of England, Barbara Dennman and Aubrey Ruskin, both of Canada; 9 grandchildren, Elaine Guikema and husband, Ryan, Kelley Black, Bryan Black, Mike Puryear, Charles Puryear, John Puryear, Leah Puryear, Joe Puryear and Rebekah Puryear; 2 great-grandchildren, Andrew Guikema and Branden Guikema.

Melvin William "Bill" Barrow
Funeral services for Melvin William "Bill" Barrow of Brazoria, Texas will be held Monday, March 5, 2001 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Brazoria with Rev. James Howard officiating.
Burial will follow at Brazoria Cemetery in Brazoria.
Visitation will be held at Baker Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, March 4, 2001 between 2 and 5 p.m. in Brazoria.
Pallbearers will be Deacons of the First Baptist Church. Honorary Pallbearers will be Delbert Scheider, Robert Simmons, Royce Simmons, Kenneth Welcsh and Bobby Nairn.
Bill was born March 14, 1937 in Brazoria and died March 3, 2001.
He is survived by his mother, Madie McElveen Barrow; brother and sister-in-law sister Mac and Jean Barrow of Alvin; sister and brother-in-law Darlene and Doug Balkum of Alvin; two nephews David Balkum and wife Kim of Friendswood and Hunter Barrow and Fiance, Kara Croom of Houston; two great-nieces, Laurianne and Lesleigh Balkum of Friendswood.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin B. Barrow.
Bill was a star athlete and salutarian at West Columbia High School. After he broke his neck in 1957 while attending Rice University, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston. He was employed by Dow Chemical as a patent attorney until ill health caused him to retire.
His courageous and uphill battle from paralysis, was and will always be an inspiration to those who knew him. He lived his life with great determination. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Brazoria, where he taught a Sunday School class and was a Deacon. Bill's legacy in life read "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

Priscilla M. Starratt
Priscilla M. Starratt died March 2, 2001, at her home in Columbia Lakes, Texas. She was born on September 10, 1922 in Mexico, Maine. Priscilla was preceded in death by her mother and father, Carl E. and Thalia M. Brown, and her sisters, Virginia Harmon and Marilyn Smith and by her husband of 57 years, Arthur W. Starratt. She is also survived by her four children, Pete Starratt of Dallas, Caral Morgan of Austin, Cheryl Basheer of Rochester, Michigan, and Gail Bryan of Marlin, Texas, and by her five grandchildren, Charles Jetann, Caral Starratt, Amy Jetel, Brinson Bryan and Carolyn Byran.
Priscilla was a graduate of Thornton Academy in Saco Maine. She served in World War II as a Navy WAVE transcribing coded messages for the Department of the Navy in Washington D.C. On October1, 1943, she married 1st Lt. Arthur W. Starratt, born in Quincy, Massachusetts, a bombadier in the 8th Army Air Corp, in Washington D.C. They moved from the Boston area to Texas in 1952 and have resided in Columbia Lakes, Texas since 1979.
Priscilla was an active member of the Order of teh Eastern Star, West Columbia Chapter no. 705 and the Columbia United Methodist Church, Wesley Sunday School Class. She enjoyed organizing social events and helped found the Ladies Luncheon Society at Columbia Lakes.
She was an endless source of unconditional love and acceptance. She was an inspiration to us all.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 5 at Columbia United Methodist Church, 206 E. Jackson, West Columbia, Texas. Graveside services will be held later Monday in Marlin, Texas at the Hillcrest Cemetery at 4 p.m.
Viewing will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the Baker Funeral Home, 634 South Columbia Drive, West Columbia, Texas.
Pallbearers will be James A. Bryan, Rafil Basheer, Bud Morgan, Charles Jettan, Brinson Bryan, Rick Smith and Grady Dodd. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Bible Sunday School Class of the Columbia United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for William E. Morris, of Lake Jackson, will be held Monday, March 5, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas, with Bro. Joe Brumbelow officiating.

William E. was born October 29, 1930 on Bedias, Texas, and on Friday, March 2, 2001, at age 70, went to be with the Lord after a long bout with cancer. He served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean War, 1952 to 1954, after attending Freeport High School. He was a pioneer of Lake Jackson, since 1943. He belonged to the Odd Fellow Lodge of Brazoria, Texas. He spent most of his life in the grocery business as a manager of Shaddocks, Bottom Dollar, and the dairy manager at H.E.B., where he retired in 1995. He was also the owner of the Bill's Jiffy Marts. He was an avid "42" domino player all his life.
Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his parents; James and Willie Morris, brothers; Curtis Morris and John David Morris, sister; Jimmie Jordan, and grandson Dusty Morris.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Katherine Morris of Lake Jackson, sons; Stanley Morris and wife, Joyce, of Kyle, Texas, Terry Morris and wife, Lisa, of Lake Jackson, daughter, Cindy Kerr, and husband, Tommy, of Brazoria, brother, Ray Morris, and wife, Myrna, of Pearland, sisters, Laverne Nixon of Lake Jackson, Melva Green and husband, Manny, of Pearland, sisters; Laverne Nixon of Lake Jackson, Melva Green and husband, Ora, of Waco, Texas, Mary Upchurch of Onalaska Texas, Winona Junco and husband, Manny, of Pearland, Texas, Barbara Dining of Alvin, Virginia Young and husband, Dennis, of Victoria, Texas, and Melba Norton of Van Vleck. Grandchildren are Rita Morris, Steven Morris, Terra Morris, David Morris, Kevin Morris and Scott Morris. Great-grandchildren are Lia Morris and Leslie Morris. Step-grandchildren are Boyd Kerr, Tommy Gene Kerr and Ken Kerr. Step-great-grandchildren are Valerie Kerr and Brandon Kerr.

Charles E. Chitwood
Charles E. Chitwood, 74, of Kingsland, Texas, died April 7, 2001 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born June 1, 1926 in Cartersville, Georgia. He was married to Mary Frances Scoggins on July 23, 1947, and he was a self-employed welder in general construction. Charles had lived in Kingsland, for seven years, coming from Freeport, Texas, where he had lived for 15 years.
Survivors include Frances Chitwood, Kingsland, Texas; sons, Charlie Chitwood & wife, Janice, Kingsland, Bobbie Chitwood & wife, Sherrial, Llano, Texas, Johnny Chitwood & wife, Sarah, Kingsland; daughters, Mary Sanez & husband, Robert, San Antonio, Texas, and Sue (Candy) Palmer & husband Shannon, Brazoria, Texas; grandchildren, Michael, Denise, Shannon, Kayla, Tracy, Joey, Jennifer, Heather, Ashley, Tyler and Amanda; and great-grandchildren, Tristen, Halie Marie, Robert, Jamie, Aaron and Reagan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Kimberly Chitwood.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 10 at Calvary Hill Church in Kingsland, with Rev. Joanie Jackson officiating. Burial, Kingsland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Don Moss, Robert Sanez, Joey Chitwood, Michael Johnson, Jerry Ivey and Jimmy Ivey. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Christian and Ed Scoggin.

Leland Bertram Hurry
Leland Bertram Hurry, 84, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away April 8, 2001 at Village on the Creek Nursing Home in Clute, Texas.

Robert D. Hurst
On Sunday, April 8, 2001, Robert D. Hurst, Jr., of Angleton, Texas, went home to be with the Lord. He was born Oct. 11, 1944 in Rosenberg. Dr. Hurst is survived by his wife, Clara Jo Sproles Hurst, his daughter, Emily Hurst, his mother and father, Robert and Evelyn Hurst. He is also survived by his sister and husband, Susan and John Shephard, and children and brother and wife, Tim and Barbara Hurst and children, and one uncle, Joe Marek.
Robert was a loving husband to Clara Jo for thirty-four years. He was also a proud father who loved his daughter deeply. "Doc" was a chiropractor, who deeply cared about his patients. He gave himself sacrificially to his family, friends, colleagues and patients. He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing and hunting. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. April 11 at Palms Chapel, with Dr. Rodney Bowman and Father Vince Dulock C.S.B., officiating. Burial will follow at the Angleton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Palms Chapel, from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 10.
Pallbearers will be Pat Heffernan, Danny Cook, Ronnie White, Arthur Dale Roberts, Jerry Farrer, Mike Lewis, Duane Roberts and Chris Walthall. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Marek, Sr., Gene Tannery, David Hardesty, John Fuchs, Bob Colburn, Mike Celenski, Harry Owens, George Jennings and all Robert's deer hunting buddies.
A benefit to establish a scholarship fund and help with medical expenses will be held Sunday, May 6 at the K.C. Hall in Angleton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at the Wells Fargo Bank in Angleton, Texas.
Robert L. Flores
Mass of the Resurrection for Robert L. Flores, age 40, of Angleton, will be Monday, April 9, 2001 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Angleton, with Father Vince Dulock, celebrant. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Beeville, at 3 p.m. with Deacon Manuel Carranco. Visitation will be on Sunday, from noon to 9 p.m., at Palms Funeral Home and Father Enquera Bravo will lead a Christian Wake service at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Raul Casarez, Jody Alaniz, Fred Flores, Joe Soliz, Billy Easter and Jeff Dahl.
Robert was born to Richard and Sophie Conacho Flores on February 8, 1961, in Port Lavaca, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Robert passed away on Friday, April, 6, 2001 at Methodist Hospital in Houston.
Surviving are mother, Sophie Flores, of Beeville; wife, Gloria Flores, of Angleton; three children, John Michael Flores, Marcus Flores and Selena Flores all of Angleton; brother, Ruben Flores, of Victoria; two sisters, Linda Casarez and Ruby Soliz, both of Beeville.
