Ben Rice
Graveside services are set for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Angleton Cemetery for Ben Rice, 83, of Danbury. Mr. Rice passed away Monday, February 28, 2000 at his residence, due to a long illness. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home.
Ben Frank Rice was born September 23, 1916 in Keith, Texas, to Jesse and Rebecca Stephenson Rice. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James A. Rice; and sister, Lillie May Strough.
Survivors include his step-daughter and son-in-law, Sharra Jean and Richard Brawner; grandchildren, James Brawner and Krystal Brawner, all of Danbury; brother, R.N. "Buster" Rice; sisters, Mrs. Dave Smith and Mrs. Oma McKnight all of Angleton; seven nephews, D.C. "Rusty" Rice of Danbury, Jessie and Frank Smith of Angleton, Frank Farrow of Lufkin, Donnie and Dennis Rice of Angleton and Craig McKnight of Angleton; four nieces, Marie Ford of Sour Lake, Texas, Becky Venhaus of Tyler, Texas, Linda Meek and Patty Dare of Angleton.
Pallbearers will be James Brawner, Jeff Mink and Mike Toucek.

Betty Ophof
Memorial services for Betty Ophof of Clute, will be held March 2, 2000 at 6:00 p.m. at Northway Baptist Church, 1421 Buchta Road in Angleton.
She was born February 20, 1954 to Verland, and Faye Condrey of Guion, Arkansas. She passed away February 13, 2000.
She was buried at Reeves Chapel Cemetery in Guion, Arkansas, on February 17, 2000.
She was the manager of the Diamond Shamrock in Brazoria.
She is survived by her mother, Faye Condrey, husband, Alan Ophof of Clute; two sons, Scott and Patrick Ophof of Clute; two daughters, Sabrina Smith of Clute and Yvonn Scott of Angleton; a sister, Debrah Emmerich of Evening Shade, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Caleb and Hope Smith and Makayla Scott; and one god-sister and best friend, Brenda Shaver of Clute.
We wish to thank all those who have supported us and stood by us through these hard times. She was loved very much by all of us and will be sorely missed.
Leah Beth Collins
Leah Beth Collins, 46, of Alvin, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2000 at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Webster. She was born to Cecil and Nola Johnson on September 18, 1953 in Freeport. She was married to Dalton Earl Collins on August 9, 1975 in Freeport; had been a resident of the Alvin area since 1983; was a member of Velasco Baptist Church in Freeport; was ARRT registered with the Special Board of Mammography and was employed as an X-Ray technician.
Mrs. Collins is survived by her husband, Dalton Earl Collins of Alvin; father, Cecil Johnson of Freeport; children, Lori Ann Collins and Jeffrey Dalton Collins, both of Alvin; brother, Chad Johnson of Silver Spring, Maryland and sister, Margie Williams of Gatesville, Texas. She is preceded in death by her mother Nola Johnson.
Memorial services for Mrs. Collins will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2000 at 4:00 p.m. from Alvin Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Streeter officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Tyler, Jerry Tyler, Gary Tyler, Brad Williams, Curtis Williams, Jeremy Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Bobby Bodle and Craig Burge.

Maggie Davis Mayfield Barker
Maggie Davis Mayfield Barker, 84, of Lake Jackson, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2000 at Brazosport Memorial Hospital. Maggie was a life-long resident of Brazoria County. She graduated from Freeport High School. Maggie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson. She was a fifty-year member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Velasco Chapter 220. Maggie worked for Entex for twenty-five years. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and caring grandmother who loved to travel and enjoy her family and friends.
She is survived by three children, Robert Bruce Hays and his wife, Betty of Oyster Creek, Mary Hucherson and husband, Ken of Houston, Carroll Murrell and husband, Butch of Lake Jackson; six grandchildren, Susan Neel, Lisa Worthington, Julie Hughes, Melanie Henry, Scott Townsend, Kim Murrell; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Lena Mariam of West Columbia.
The family received friends 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Monday at the Lakewood Chapel.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. at Lakewood Chapel with Dr. John Hatch officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ken Hucherson, Butch Murrell, Scott Townsend, Chad Henry, Heath Hughes, Earl Worthington, John Neel.

Sherry A. Konvicka
Sherry A. Konvicka, 52, of Lake Jackson, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2000 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Sherry was an area resident since 1973. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Sherry was involved in many church ministries and was a deeply devout Christian.
She is survived by her husband, David of Lake Jackson; three children, Matthew Konvicka and his wife, Christina of Houston, Jennifer Hawken and husband, Brian, of Lake Jackson, Julie Konvicka of Denton; five brothers, Robert Upton of Aransas Pass, Christopher Upton of Pasadena, Mark Upton of Pearland, Michael Upton of Deer Park, David Upton of Pasadena.
Family will receive friends 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesday, February 29, 2000 at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Rosary services will be held Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2000 at St. Michael's with Father Leo Wleczyk officiating.
Pallbearers will be her five brothers and Brian Hawken.

She died Saturday, May 6, 2000 in Brazoria.

Martha was born September 1, 1935 in Houston, Texas. She was a graduate of Lamar High School, she received a BS from University of Houston 1965, and a M. Ed. from Lamar University in 1977. She was a teacher and administrator in Houston and Pearland schools and retired in 1991 as Director of Special Education in Pearland School District.
She is survived by her mother, Margaret Irvin of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Alex Zimmermann of Norcross, Georgia; sons and daughter-in-law, Paul Treadgold of Brazoria, John and Gina Treadgold of Richmond; sisters, Jo Ann Tippett of Nacogdoches, Mary Sue Irvin of Houston; grandchildren, Krystle, Sam and Emily Treadgold, Sarah and Rebekah Zimmerman.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Irvin; and husband, R. H. Treadgold, Jr.
She was a much beloved mother and grandmother, who spent her life teaching and nurturing others. Special thanks to her Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church-Brazoria, where she continued her love of teaching after retirement.

Vera Marie Brock
Marie Brock, 77, of Crosby, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 6, 2000.
Born December 22, 1922 in Groveton, Texas, and resident of Crosby, Texas, for 40 years. She was a graduate of Lee College of Nursing in Baytown. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Crosby, and an accomplished seamstress, who's work was often seen during the 1960's Foley's Annual Vogue Fashion Shows. She will be remembered by friends and family as a devout Christian, loving mother, devoted wife, wonderful sister, and trusting friend.
Survived by her husband of 59 years, Thomas L. "Jake" Brock; daughters, Linda C. Stewart and husband, H. George, Patsy M. Tucker, and Regenia "Jeanie" A. Jahnke and husband, Ernest G., Jr.; granddaughters, Terry L. Turner, Janet L. Mangum, Lynda M. Thomas, Gina M. Crist, Mandy K. Tucker, and Jennifer R. McBride; grandson, Brian K. Tucker; step-grandchildren, Ernest G. Jahnke, III, Victoria K. Leach, and Byron A. Jahnke; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister; six brothers; and many nieces, nephews.
Services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, 2000 at First Baptist Church of Crosby at 615 Runneburg, Crosby, with Rev. Rusty Ellisor officiating, and burial following at White Cemetery in Highlands. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
