Edna Mae Prause
Edna Mae Prause, 83, of Cuero, passed away May 18, 2003.
She was born in DeWitt County on September 21, 1919 to the late Louis and Frieda Boening Blank. She was a leather worker for Tex Tan Western Leather Company and a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
She is survived ny her sons Ellman “Al” Prause of Victoria and Leon H. Prause of Austin; sisters, Anna Lou Leist of Yoakum, Lena Leist and Mable Glaze, both of Cuero, and Martha Welker of Arkansas; brother, August Blank of Victoria; 3 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by husband, Ellman Prause Sr., parents; and brother, George Emil Blank and Gerhard Blank.
Visitation was at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Tuesday, May 20. Services were Wednesday at the church, Rev. Charles Eckhert officiated. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery. Buffington Funeral Home, Yoakum, 361-293-2333.

Thomas George Hahn
Thomas George "Tommy" Hahn, 60, of Wadsworth, went to be with his Lord May 19, 2003 in San Antonio.
He was born July 8, 1943 in Palacios to August J. Hahn and Mildred Genzer Hahn. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in law, Tammy Hahn Bond and Bobby Bond, Ginger Hahn Goulart and Jesse Goulart III, and Christy Hahn Johnson and Danny Johnson, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters, Edna Mae Wratislaw of San Antonio and Pat Koranek of Cuero; and granddaughters, Savannah Bond and Abigail Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his father, August J. Hahn, and brother, August P. Hahn.
The family will received visitors at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 21. Funeral services were Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Melvin Ryman officiating. Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery. Arrangements by Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, 979-245-4613.

Mrs. Louise Nolan
Mrs. Louise Nolan, 97, of Cuero, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2003, in Cuero following a short illness.
She was born in Ft. Worth, on April 29, 1906 to the late John and Willie Mae Burch. She and her husband, the late C. A. Nolan, ranched in Live Oak County for many years. Mrs. Nolan wrote a column for the Three Rivers Progress News. She was a Methodist.
Mrs. Nolan is survived by her daughter, Margaret Bluntzer of Cuero, and two grandchildren, Ann Evans and Rick Bluntzer, both of Austin. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Melissa Stevens of Houston, Dr. Matt Evans of Alvin, 1st Lt. Sam Bluntzer, USMC of San Diego, California, and Nolan Bluntzer of Berkeley, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandchild, Thomas Bluntzer; her son-in-law, Pete Bluntzer; four sisters; and one brother.
Graveside services were held Thursday, May 22 at Three Rivers Cemetery in Three Rivers, the Rev. John Alsbrook officiated. Burial was in the Three Rivers Cemetery under the direction of Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers were Rick Bluntzer, Bruce Evans, Dr. Matt Evans, Lt. Sam Bluntzer, Nolan Bluntzer, and Mark Stevens.

Hermina M. Arndt
Hermina Magdalene Arndt, 94, of Cuero, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003.
She was born July 22, 1908, in Muenster, to the late Stanislaus and Theresa Kuntschik Petrosky. She was an inspector for Cuero Cotton Mill and a supply clerk at Cuero Community Hospital. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lindenau.
Survivors: sister, Elvina Thompson of Katy.
Preceded in death by: husband, Arnold John Arndt; parents; sisters, Josey Olle and Angala Hester; and brothers, Frank Petrosky, Tony Petrosky, John Petrosky, and Joe Petrosky.

Dennis E. Southern
Dennis E. Southern, 67, of Victoria, died Thursday, May 22, 2003.
He was born December 24, 1935, in Cuero, to the late Joseph Southern and Georgia Sutherland.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Southern of Victoria; daughter, Pennie Thorsland of Katy; Rodney Wright of Victoria; sister, Edna Fay Wilson of Burnett; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.

John Henry Mathis
John Henry Mathis was born on October 24, 1938, in DeWitt County, Cuero, Texas. He was the son of the late Ruth and Lott Mathis. He peacefully departed his life on Sunday, April 27, 2003, at the age of 64. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and a lovable person.
John was a native of Texas and received his early education at Daule Elementary and High School. He continued his edu-cation at Prairie View A&M College, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1965 and Master's Degree in 1967.
John's career began in the public school system of Texas as a Counselor and History teacher for 16 years. He launched his career with DuPont in Texas and was transferred to Wilmington, Delaware, where he worked in Human Relations until his retirement in 1993. Following his retirement, John became the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Officer at the Delaware Department of Transportation.
John was very active in community affairs such as Child Welfare Board, Volunteers for Action (President, and Palestine Baptist Church (Victoria). He started the Minority Network Organization at the Delaware Department of Transportation. John's commitment to youth continued through his work as a mentor for Big Brother-Big Sister Program, and as the director of the youth program FAME (Forum to Advance Minorities in Engineering).
John devoted his life to helping people and had a true gift for seeing the potential in others. He had a gentle nature and enjoyed sharing his wisdom with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Modestine Meadows and brother-in-law Johnnie Meadows; three brothers, R. A. Mathis, A. D. Mathis, and Joe A. Mathis Sr.; three sisters, Lillie Mathis Jones, Dorothy Mathis Battles, and Delores Mathis. He leaves to cherish his memory: former wife, Lizzie Mae Mathis; four devoted children, Darcel Green, Dawn Green, John Kevin Mathis, and Ruth J'Lyce Mathis-Tucker; one son-in-law, James Tucker Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Sheryl Anderson-Mathis; three grandchildren, Armand Green-Avery, D'Colby Green-McNary, and Taylor Mathis; two brothers, Allee (Sonny) Mathis and Lott Mathis Jr.; three sisters, Ceola Hopkins and Carrie Brown, both of Cuero, and Erma English of Victoria. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 31 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, 400 Grant Street in Cuero, the Rev. Dewayne Belvin Sr., pastor.
Lillian Marie Goehring
Lillian Marie Goehring, 91, of Yorktown, passed away May 25, 2003.
She was born November 26, 1911 in Weser to the late Willie and Hulda Borgfeld Landgrebe. She was a homemaker and a Lutheran. She was a member of WELCA.
She is survived by her daughter, Gladys Franke of Goliad; sons, Daniel Goehring and Roy Goehring, both of Yorktown, and Willie Goehring of Nordheim; sister, Frieda Schmidt of Karnes City; brother, Henry Landgrebe of Dobskyville; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Goehring; parents; sisters, Edna Schultz and Ella Goehring; and grandson, Larry Layne Goehring.
Visitation was Tuesday, May 27 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Chapel. A prayer service was held Tuesday, Rev. Patti Byrne and Mr. C. B. Suggs, S.A.M. officiated. Services are Wednesday, May 28 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial is at Westside Cemetery.

Arthur L. Talk
Arthur L. Talk, a native Texan, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at the age of 85.
He was born July 1, 1917, to longtime Texas ranchers in DeWitt County, Pleas and May Talk. Mr. Talk graduated from San Jacinto High School, attended the University of Houston and served during World War II in the United States Coast Guard. Known as the “society realtor,” Mr. Talk was a longtime Houston realtor; while maintaining careers in ranching and the oil and gas industry. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Arthur Talk Jr.; sisters, Earlene Talk Doyle and Una May Talk; and brother, James Pleasants Talk.
Mr. Talk is survived by his nephew, J. Pleas Doyle Jr. and wife Joan; great nieces and nephews, May Doyle Bently and husband Bert, J. Please Doyle Jr. and wife Theresa, James Arthur Doyle and wife Janna, Joanie Doyle De Ayala and husband Carlos, and Arthur Irwin Doyle and wife Kristy; great-great nieces and nephews, Julia, Bryan, Mary and Carol Bentley; Jenna and Jayme Doyle; Carlos, Paul, and Christopher De Ayala; and Connor Doyle.
Friends were invited to a visitation on Wednesday, May 21 at Geo. H. Lewis and Sons, 1010 Berring Drive, with a Vigil afterwards. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday at at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer, with Rev. Thomas B. Mailloux C.S.B., Celebrant. Reymundo G. Navarro
Reymundo G. Navarro, 55, of Houston, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003.
He was born Feb. 18, 1948, in Cuero, to Cecelia Gonzales Navarro of Yorktown and to the late Isidro Navarro. He graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville and was a state certified professional engineer. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include seven children from two previous marriages, Valmarie Vannoy, Victoria Moss, and Amy Rae Johnson, all of Houston, and Samantha Navarro, Brittany Navarro, Reymundo Thomas Navarro, and Simon Navarro, all of Cuero; sister, Lupita Garcia of Yorktown; and brothers, Jessie Rodriguez of Houston, Ruben Navarro of San Juan, and Tommy Joe Navarro of Lockhart.

Lillie Harper, 90, of Cuero died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003.
She was born July 4, 1913, in Thomaston, to the late Willie Sr. and Minnie Williams Green. She was a retired maid and a Baptist. She was a member of the Usher Board.
Survivors: daughter, Martha Ann Harper of Cuero; sister, Elma Walker of Cuero; and four grandchildren.
