Jimmie D. Dodds
Jimmie Dee Dodds, 74, of Nordheim, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003.
He was born Oct. 7, 1929, in Edna, to the late William and Lela Gregory Dodds. He was a retired oilfield supervisor and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors: daughters, Kathy Sutton of Victoria and Tina McDonald of Edna; sons, Ricky Dodds and Jimmie Dodds Jr., both of Victoria, Michael Dodds of Seguin, Tim Dodds of Nordheim and Craig Dodds of Edna; sisters, Laura Faye Hasenkamp of New Braunfels and Ella Mae Brock of Alvin; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: wife, Lorene F. Cleveland Dodds; daughter, Theresa Lynn Dodds; and brothers, William Bill Dodds, Barney Ray Dodds and Sam Dodds.
Visitation was Monday, Nov. 10 at Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Tuesday at the funeral home chapel, Mr. Sherrel Mercer officiated. Burial was at Memory Gardens of Edna. Oaklawn Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2221.
Elo A. Leck
Elo A. Leck, 88, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003.
He was born on February 20, 1915, in Shiner to the late Dick and Emily Winkler Leck. Elo married Emma Dornak on Sept. 7, 1939. He worked at the Cotton Mill, City of Cuero and Gulf Coast Wood Products. He was a gifted antiques repairman, a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Elo is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Emma Leck; a son and daughter-in-law, Gus and Connie Adickes Leck of Cuero; grandsons, Michael Leck of Cuero, Kevin Leck of Houston, and Darren Leck of New Braunfels; granddaughter, Patty May of Cuero; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Elsia Flessner, Louisa Flessner, Annie Rippen, Emma Jarish, and Adela Gawlik; and brothers, Edmund Leck, Rudy Leck, Alvin Leck, Henry Leck, and Willie Leck.
Visitation was held Thursday, Oct. 23 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. A rosary was also held Thursday. Funeral services were held Friday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the Rev. Kirby Hlavaty officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery under the direction of Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Michael Leck, Kevin Leck, Darren Leck, Shawn Rust, Rudy Michalek, Ronnie Leck, and Sammy Leck.

Bill E. Williams
Bill Eugene Williams, 76, of Weesatche, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003.
He was born Jan. 25, 1927, in Poteau, Oklahoma, to the late William Marion and Ruie Ruth Reid Williams. He served as a radioman on PBY flying boats for the U.S. Navy and graduated with a degree in Geology from TCU. He was a mud logger in the oil field service.
Survivors: sons, Bill Eugene Williams Jr. of San Antonio, Bruce Elliot Williams of Denton, and Bryan Eady Williams of Bandera; brother, Bobby Lee Williams of Fort Worth; and nine grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: brother, Glenn Williams.
Graveside services were held Monday, October 27 at Sandy Creek Cemetery near Rockdale, the Rev. Jason Anderson officiated.
Pallbearers were: Bill Williams, Bruce Williams, Bryan Williams, Gregg Williams, Darwyn Duderstadt, and Jim Ingram.
Clare K. Thomas
Clare K. Thomas, 103, of Cuero, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003.
She was born Jan. 7, 1900, in Germany. She was a homemaker and member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
Preceded in death by: husband, Herman C. Thomas.
Services were Saturday, Nov. 1 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Stephen Byrne officiated. Burial was at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Richmond, Indiana. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Iris Lee Nesrsta
Iris Lee Nesrsta, 77, of Cuero, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003.
She was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Meyersville, to the late Oscar and Ella Dreier Adickes. She was an office manager for Adickes Lumber Company and Valedictorian of Cuero High School Class of 1943. She was a member of Cuero VFW Auxiliary, AARP, Women of the ELC, and St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
Survivors: nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: husband, Julius Nesrsta; and parents.

Charlyn Joyce Kueker
Charlyn Joyce Kueker, 72, of Cuero, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003.
She was born March 16, 1931, in Westhoff, to the late Charles and Rosalie Goehring Rau. She was an operator for Southwestern Bell and worked at Bohman Clinic. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Meyersville and was a Cub Scout Den Mother.
Survivors: husband, Albert Kueker; sons, Michael Kueker of Wharton and Gary Wayne Kueker and Charles Robert Kueker, both of Cuero; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Emil F. Wild
Emil F. Wild, 89, of Cuero, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003.
He was born on March 22, 1914, in Cuero, to the late William and Dora Kuester Wild. He was a farmer and rancher. He was an electrician. He worked for Keseling and Benton Metal Works as a Tinner. He was a member of the Sons of Hermann. He married Johanna Schlinke on Sept. 4, 1940 in Lindenau.
He is survived by his wife, Johanna; one daughter, Margaret Haas and husband Ed of League City; son, Jerome Wild and wife Iris of Cuero; three grandchildren, Melinda and husband Russell Byrne, Jonathan Wild, and Kathleen Wild; and sister, Gertrude Wolter of Cuero.
Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 2 at Freund Funeral Home. Services were Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lindenau, the Rev. William Hill officiated. Burial was at Lindenau Community Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Ruth Hardung
Ruth Hardung, 78, of Cuero, and formerly of Palacios, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003.
She was born in Hufsmith on April 30, 1925 to the late Rev. John Frank and Valletta Amanda Guinn Bentley. She was a foster parent for 40 years. She worked for the Child Welfare Department. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by her daughters, Patsy Parent of Kiowa, Oklahoma, Norma Sue Collier of Bauou La Batre, Alabama, Wanda Faye Thompson of Chunchula, Alabama, and Lucy Earlene Hardung and Elizabeth Ann Clifton, both of Cuero; son Robert Hardung Swanson of Carrolton, Georgia; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Caldonia “Donie” Polk of Clarksville, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren “Buck” George Hardung; son, Robert “Bob” E. Kupka; parents; sisters, Floy Christmas, Maple Young, Annie Cronin, Alta Brunner, George Sanders, and Lucy Martins; and brothers, Claude McMillian Bentley, Earl Frank Bentley, John Daniel Bentley, Wilke Bentley.
Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 6 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Palacios Church of Christ, 516 Rorem in Palacios. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Palacios Church of Christ, with Rev. Nat C. Alewine
Nat C. Alewine, 76, died Saturday, October 25, 2003 after a long illness.
He was born on December 3, 1926, in Boswell, Oklahoma, to the late Clovis K. and Willie M. Thompson Alewine. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and earned his Master’s degree in Music from the University of Texas. He started out as the band director of the San Benito Junior High School, created the band program at the Los Fresnos High School, and came to Cuero High School in 1960 and served as band director until 1977. After retiring as band director, he taught Government and History at Cuero High School and coached the golf team. He was a member of the Outstanding Band Directors of Texas and First United Methodist Church. We believe he is continuing his career directing a heavenly band of angels.
Nat is survived by a daughter, Nancy Alexander and husband Rudy of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Tracie Hastings and husband Joe of Corpus Christi, Cheryl Atkinson and husband Jeff of Portland, Texas, and Richard D. Alexander and wife Patsy of Corpus Christi; mother-in-law, Norma Harrison or Corpus Christi; six great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Hughston of San Antonio; and his loving friend, Joyce Hilbrich.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Harrison Alewine; sister, Evelyn Olive; and brother, C. K. Alewine.
Visitation was Tuesday, October 28 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 29, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Ron Welborn officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery under the direction of Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Gladys M. P. Wendel
Gladys Melba Preiss Wendel of Goliad passed away October 19, 2003.
She was a homemaker and a very active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Schroeder. She committed her life to loving and caring for her family.
She is survived by her husband, Alonzo Wendel of Goliad; daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Alan Carroll; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Twila Wendel; grandchildren, Matthew Wendel, Kira Wendel, Lori Shaffer and husband Albie, Brian Bruns and wife Audrey, and Dawn Rocha and husband Joe; and great-grandchildren, Adam Shaffer, Avery Bruns, Alexandra and Madelyn Rocha.
She was preceded in death by her son, Warren Wendel, and her brother, Lee Delvin Preiss.
Services were held Tuesday, October 21 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Schroeder. Rev. Daniel L. Zellmer officiated. Burial was at St Luke's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Schroeder. Colonial Funeral Home in Goliad was in charge of arrangements, 361-645-3216.
