Mary Lee Phillips
Mary Lee Phillips 63, of Gonzales, died on Thursday, October 5, 2006.
Mary was born May 31, 1943, in Gonzales, to the late Arthur Smith and Jessie Tharp Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Lois Copeland and her brother Lloyd Smith.
Survivors: her children, Carol Sue Fahrig and husband Charles, Loraine Marie Michalek and husband Edwin, and Bobby Wayne Phillips, all of Cuero; sisters, Peggy Wright of Abilene, Shirley Shows of Gonzales, and Linda Leverett of Mexico; a brother, Arthur Smith Jr. of Stafford; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, Oct. 9, at 2:00 p.m. at the Seydler-Hill Funeral Home in Gonzales. Rev. Clint Lowery officiated. Burial was in the Pecan Branch-Smith Cemetery. Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, Gonzales, 830-672-3232.

Lena Mae Smith
Lena Mae Smith, 91, formerly of Roscoe, Sweetwater, and Tuscola, died Thursday, October 19, 2006, at her residence.
Lena Mae was born January 19, 1915, in Roscoe to Dossie F. and Lillie Mae Clark Kerby. On February 28, 1937, she married Woodrow M. Smith, at her parents' home in Roscoe. The couple lived and farmed in the Roscoe area until 1975, when they moved to Sweetwater. After retirement, they traveled extensively, visiting forty-seven states, and continued to have farming interests. In 1995, they moved to Tuscola. Woodie died in 1995 and Lena moved to Abilene in 1999. She was a homemaker, enjoyed oil and china painting, sewing and crocheting, singing and playing her organ. A dedicated Christian, she was a former member of First Baptist Churches in Roscoe and Sweetwater, and was a current member of First Baptist Church in Tuscola.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great-grandson, Dossie Menn; her brother, Lewis Kerby; and her sister, Beatrice Boston.
Survivors include her daughters, Cyrella Bartlett and her husband Russell of Tuscola, Joan Menn and her husband Donald of Cuero, and Betty Jones and her husband Clifford of New Braunfels; eight grandchildren, Woodrow Menn of Austin, Lee Bartlett of Kaufman, Sheryl Menn Boiles of Keller, Trudi Bartlett Angello of Round Rock, Jeff Menn of Grapevine, Melinda Bartlett Hollan of DeSoto, Beth Bartlett of Red Oak, and Amanda Jones of Lubbock, 17 great-grandchildren, Kelly Buck, and Kasey Menn, Brian, Brice, and Brent Boiles, Andrew Menn, Bethany Daniels, Matthew Pizana, Greg, Nathan, Emily, Leah, and Noah Bartlett, Kaylie Angello, and Meredith, Lillie, and Olivia Hollan; three great-great-grandchildren, Jacob and Hope Daniels, and Charlie Buck; one sister-in-law, Norene Smith of Bebee, AR; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Services were 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2006, in First Baptist Church, Tuscola, with Reverends Buddy Goodgame and Malcolm Brown officiating. Burial was at 3:00 p.m. in Garden Memories, Sweetwater, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola.

William Harvey Altom
Cuero, Texas, William Harvey Altom was born on a farm in East Tennessee near Johnson City on December 22, 1925 to Kate Hicks Altom and Luther William Altom. He grew up in Fountain City, which is a section of Knoxville, Tennessee. During World War II he was a radar machinist in the Army Air Corp. At the end of the war, he was honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant. He attended the University of Tennessee on the GI Bill and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. William married his life partner, E. Jane Brett on June 11, 1947, in Knoxville, TN.
Frank M. Bass
Dr. Frank M. Bass, often called the "Father of Marketing Science," died on December 1, 2006 at his home. At age 79, he was in his 25th year as a professor of marketing science in the School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas. Professor Bass's research and that of his students was pivotal in establishing marketing as a quantitative science.
Errol Glenn Campbell
Errol Glenn Campbell, 64, of Baytown, TX went to be with the lord on November 25, 2006 in Beaumont, TX. Errol was born on February 27, 1942 in Cuero, TX to John and Pearl (Hull) Campbell. Errol and his wife Alice owned and operated several businesses in the Baytown and Crosby area. They owned Campbell Refrigeration, Crosby Appliance, La Porte Ice, and Errol also taught refrigeration repair at San Jacinto and Lee College. When Errol wasn't working he enjoyed spending time with his family, he loved his grandchildren, watching sports, and going for rides in his car. Errol was just an all around good guy who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

Bernice Velma Hogan
Cuero - Bernice Velma Hogan, 85, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2006. She was born February 4, 1921, to Rufus Elroy and Lillian Fisher Badgett in Stockdale, Texas.
Bernice married Geno Hogan on May 11, 1940. Bernice worked as a Certified Nurse's Aide in the medical field.
She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Velma Hoffman and husband Vic of Cuero, and Maxine Walker and husband Wayne of Hochley; a son, Morris Hogan and wife Ellen of Pembroke, GA; two sisters, Dessie Rauch and Joy Hahn of Cuero; a brother, Jolly Badgett and wife Wanetha of Cuero; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Myrtle Fowler, Luella Welch, and Lorene Badgett; and a brother, E. J. Badgett.
Visitation was held Friday, December 29, 2006, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held Saturday, December 30 at 10 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Brown officiating. Burial followed with a graveside service at noon at Kenedy City Cemetery in Kenedy under the direction of Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Ricky Hoffman, Robert Hoffman, Michael Walker, John Hogan, Eric Hoffman and Steven Walker.
Memorials may be given to the Arthritis Research Foundation.
Johnnie Bernice Kibbe
Cuero - Johnnie Bernice Kibbe, 93, passed away December 27, 2006 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was born February 17, 1913 to John B. and Effie Wilson Gresham in Texas.
She married Charles Kibbe. Johnnie was a Sunday school teacher for 40 years, a member of Eastern Star and San Antonio Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by a sister-in-law: Dorris White of Benton, AK, three nieces: Susie Wright of Hot Springs, AR, Bernice Burchfield of Nashville, TN, and Kay Rowan of Benton, AK and three nephews: Bert McDonald of Odessa, TX, Murry McDonald of Hutto, TX, and Don McDonald of Hamilton, TX.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters: Daisy Lee Barbar, Katherine McDonald, and brother: Wilson Gresham.
Graveside service was held on Saturday, December 30, 2006, 2 p.m., at Hillside Cemetery under the direction of Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Cuero - Jasper Leonard McDonald, 79, passed away December 27, 2006. He was born June 16, 1927 in Cuero to Jasper L. and Mary Theresa Karm McDonald, Sr.
He served in the U. S. Army, worked for Texas Eastern and had been a member of the American Legion for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Dove McDonald of Cuero, daughter: Shawnee Harryman of Cuero, granddaughter: Brittney Harryman, grandson: Shane Harryman, stepdaughter: Linda Lowe of Cuero and stepson: John Boone of Beaumont and seven grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a stepson: David Boone.
The visitation was Saturday, December 30, 2006, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 31, 2006, 2 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cuero - Michaela Pacheco, 93, passed away Dec. 30, 2006. She was born May 8, 1913 in Cuero to Bacilio and Pabla Espinosa Guajardo. She was married to Refugio Pacheco. She is survived by a daughter: Caterina Luera of Quitman, sons: Santiago Pena, Sr. of Westhoff, Richardo Pena of Dallas, Lupe Lopez of Dallas, Jesse Pena of Dallas and Johnny Pacheco of Dallas, 45 Grandchildren, 119 Great-Grandchildren, 49 Great-Great-Grandchildren, and 6 Great-Great-Great-Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother: Aleadio Guajardo. Rosary was recited Mon., Dec. 31, 2006, at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Mon., Jan. 1, 2007, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Westhoff with Father Michael Petering officiating. Victoria - Mark Allen Rickman, 22, passed away December 25, 2006. He was born March 31, 1984 in Cuero to Donald and Susan Hull Rickman. Mark worked as a floor hand in the oilfield industry.
He is survived by mother: Susan Rickman of Cuero and father: Donald Rickman of Victoria, a daughter: Cireana Ann-Marie Rickman of Beeville, a brother: Steven Chance Rickman of Cuero, maternal grandparents: Lillie Mansfield of Cuero and David Mansfield of Victoria, paternal grandfather: Arthur Rickman of Mission Valley.
Preceded in death by his paternal grandmother: Caroline Rickman.

Merle Laurene Jones of Marble Falls, formerly of Cuero and San Antonio passed away Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Kingsland Hills Care Center in Kingsland. Merle was born September 2, 1913 in Clear Creek, near Cuero. She married Ollie R. Jones on July 18, 1937 in Cuero.

Cuero - Doris J'Net Kasper, 86, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007. She was born Jan. 11, 1921, in Concrete to Carl W. Weber, Sr and Lillian Parks Weber. Doris married Raymond H. Kasper Sept. 7, 1940, in Cuero. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Sunday School Secretary for 40 years, Volunteer at Whispering Oaks Nursing Home over 20 years, Secretary at the High-Davis Clinic for 19 years, Secretary and "Girl Friday" at Freund Funeral Home since 1981.

Jasper Mayfield, age 67, of Cuero, died Jan. 16, 2007. He was born on April 8, 1939 to the late Eddie Mayfield Sr., and Emma Edwards. Mr. Mayfield worked as a landscaper. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1982 after receiving numerous medals such as: National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon.
Mildred Anne Smolik
Cuero - Mildred Anne Smolik, 79, passed away Mon., Jan. 22, 2007. She was born Aug. 25, 1927, in Falls City to Frank Edward and Regina Mary Lorenz Kolodziej. Mildred had been a secretary for the DeWitt Health Dept. for a short time, but her main calling was a wife, mother and homemaker. She spent countless hours donating her time to St. Michael's School as her 5 children grew up. She was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America and the St. Michael's Altar Society.
