Mary Margaret Stepanski Luedicke

Mary Margaret Stepanski Luedicke, 78, of Yorktown, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2004.
She was born May 9, 1925, in Yorktown, to the late Frank J. and Regina Jendrzey Stepanski. She attended Holy Cross Catholic School and Yorktown High School and later worked for Cadahy Packing Company for three and a half years in the 1940's.
On October 30, 1945, she was united in marriage with Alonzo Otto Luedicke at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Yorktown by the Rev. B. C. Kaminski. A daughter, Catherine was born to that union.
The couple made their home in Yorktown where they owned and operated the Depot Grocery & Service Station for 28 years. After her husband's death in 1974, she continued to operate the business before retiring in 1979.
Mrs. Luedicke was a business partner, housewife, mother, and grandmother. Her favorite pastimes were playing dominoes and cooking, and was known affectionately for both by her family. She was also a lifetime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Yorktown.
She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Luedicke Wilems of Yorktown; sister, Rosalie Knutson and husband Kenneth "Bing" of Victoria; brother, Martin Stepanski of Victoria; granddaughter, Loretta Bolting and husband Wade of Nordheim; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Joe Stepanski and Paul Stepanski; and son-in-law, Roylee Wilems.
A Rosary was held Friday, May 7 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home in Yorktown, the Rev. Donald Hayden presided. Services were Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Yorktown. Burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yorktown. Arrangements by Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, Texas 361-564-2277.
Pallbearers: Michael Boldt, August (Gus) Boldt, Andrew Stepanski, Thomas Stepanski, Tommy Stehling, and John Stepanski.
Honorary Pallbearers: Wade Bolting, Ben Matula, Larry Kozielski, nieces and nephews.
Memorials: Holy Cross Catholic Church or Donor's Choice.

John C. Young

John C. Young, 92, of Yorktown, died Sunday, May 2, 2004.
He was born July 23, 1911, in Springtown, to the late Virgil and Georgie Hill Young. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a farmer and rancher.
Survivors: son, John L. Young of Yorktown; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Preceded in death by: wife, Mary Preckwinkle Young; sisters, Nieleen Belcher and Bess Pierce; and brother, Punk Young.
Visitation was Tuesday, May 4 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services were Wednesday at Westside Cemetery, the Rev. Billy Koinm officiated. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, 361-564-2277.

Beulah Mueller

Beulah Mueller, 83, of Yorktown, died Friday, May 7, 2004.
She was born Sept. 23, 1920, in Yorktown, to the late August L. Sr. and Mathilda Mueller Scheurich. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors: son, Kenneth Mueller of Yorktown and Randy Mueller of Runge; sister, Doris Marlow of Kirby; brother, Manford Scheurich of Calallen; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Edgar L. L. Mueller; and brothers, August L. Scheurich Jr. and Adolph Scheurich.
Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. Friday, May 14 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home chapels. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 15 at the funeral home, the Rev. Patti Byrne officiating. Burial will be at Westside Cemetery. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home.

Clarice G. Hollman Neal

Clarice Georgette Hollman Neal, age 83, passed away on May 8, 2004 at Hospice Austin Christopher House, Austin, of a cerebral vascular accident.
She was born in 1920 in Camarasa, Spain, and was raised in Brazil where her father was a civil engineer. She would travel to Shiner with her parents where her maternal grandparents lived, traveling via steamer to New York and train to Texas.
She graduated from São Paulo Graded School as valedictorian and entered The University of Texas at Austin in 1938 where she graduated in 1942 with a BA in Spanish sum cum laude.
During World War II she worked for U. S. Censorship in San Antonio and Laredo.
Clarice married Joe West Neal on October 10, 1943 in Shiner. In 1946, Clarice and Joe, a University of Texas professor, moved back to Austin after their war time service. She was active in the Pan American Round Table of Austin since 1947 and was Director in 1961-62. She was active in The University Ladies Club and worked for 25 years at the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection Library at The University of Texas.
Clarice developed an interest in Genealogy in 1970. Since then she accumulated information on both sides of her family from throughout the country as well as Europe. Her research culminated in the compilation of The Dales of Eastern Shore Maryland and Tennessee which was published in 1986 and co-compilation David Young and Sarah Phillips Descendants in 1995.
Her survivors include husband, Dr. Joe W. Neal of Austin; son, John Hollman Neal and wife, Linda Bebout Neal of Escondido, California; son, Tom Louis Neal and wife, Candy Neal of Roseville, California; son, Frank West Neal and wife, Jane Lester Neal of Burleson; daughter Mary Jo Clarice Beckman and husband, Robert Beckman of Falls Church, Virginia; and 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Tuesday, May 11 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. There will be a Celebration of Her Life at Horse Thief Hollow Ranch at a future date. Arrangements by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas 78705, 512-452-8811.
In lieu of other forms of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Pan American Round Table of Austin, 6708 Rustling Oaks Trail, Austin, Texas 78759.

Elsa J. Leister

Elsa Johanna Leister, 88, of Nordheim, died Saturday, May 8, 2004.
She was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Nordheim, to the late Willie Sr. and Dora Pargmann Buesing. She was a homemaker, a member of DeWitt Extension Homemaker Club, Nordheim Garden Club, Nordheim Historical Museum, Nordheim Shooting Club, and Nordheim Firemen Auxiliary. She was chosen "Homemaker of the DeWitt Soil and Water Conservation" in 1994, was correspondent of the Yorktown News, DeWitt County View and Cuero Record newspapers for years, attended the Buesing and Nordheim schools, and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors: daughter, Della Evans of Nordheim; sons, Ray Leister and Arlen Leister both of Nordheim; brother, Willie Buesing of Nordheim; ten grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Alvin A. Leister; daughter, Doris Ann Buchhorn; brothers, Gus Buesing, Alvin Buesing, and Herbert Buesing; and one grandson.
Visitation was Monday, May 10 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial was at Nordheim Cemetery. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, 361-564-2277.

Lt. Col. Donald L. Barlow, USAF (Ret.)

Lt. Col. Donald L. Barlow, USAF (Ret.), 81, of Cuero, died Monday, June 21, 2004.
He was born Aug. 16, 1922, in Lansing, Mich., to the late Frank and Leona Ida Fasbender Barlow. He served 24 years in the U.S. Air Force pilot. During his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with Two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, American Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal. As a pilot he flew the PT-17, BT-13, AT-17, B-26 Martin, A-26, B-26 Douglas, B-25, P-61, F-84, T-33, T-28, F-86, B-47 and B-52F, an eight engine jet bomber and the last plane he flew. He was a Life Member of the Military Officers' Association of America, the Mach Busters Club, a Third Degree Knight of Columbus #1682, Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus Yoakum Assembly #1128, AARP, TurkeyFest Association, and T.P.A. He was a former member of the Lions Club, Rotary Club, and St. Michael's Catholic Church Council. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. After retiring, he worked with Timco Industries in Cuero as an engineer.
Survivors: wife, Pat Hickey Barlow; daughter, Nancy Marie Stratton of Austin; sons, Robert M. Barlow of Surfside and Stephen F. Barlow and Bill Ray Hickey II, both of Cuero; sister, Bernice Muller of Tucson, Arizona; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Preceded in death by: parents; first wife, Carol Ann Yoder Barlow; and brother, Robert Frank Barlow.
Visitation was Thursday, June 24 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. A rosary was recited Thursday at the funeral home as well. A funeral mass was held Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, the Rev. Johnson Owusu-Boateng officiated. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery with full military honors and under the direction of Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers were Fassett Hickey, Fielding Hickey, Jerry Pyles, Henry Sheppard Jr., Santos Calderon Jr., and Stephen Post.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Maggie M. L. Bruchmiller

Maggie Mae Leggett Bruchmiller, 96, of San Antonio, died Monday, June 21, 2004.
She was born April 21, 1908, in Lavaca County, to the late James Newton and Sarah Ida Wilson Leggett. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio.
Survivors: son, Charles Bruchmiller of San Antonio; 7 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Alonzo Otto Bruchmiller; daughter, Barbara Jean Bruchmiller; son, Douglas Bruchmiller; four sisters; and four brothers.
Services were Friday, June 25 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Ron Welborn officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Buna Schulze

Buna Schulze, 89, of Yorktown, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004.
She was born Aug. 6, 1914, in Goliad County, to the late Fred and Helna Dohmann Bruns. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors: son, Olen Schulze of Hallettsville; brother, R.R. Bruns of Goliad; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Caesar Schulze; son, Ronnie Schulze; sister, Helen Tiedt; and brothers, Freedom Bruns and Oscar Bruns.
Visitation was Thursday, June 24 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Friday at the funeral home, the Rev. Patti Byrne officiated. Burial was at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, 361-564-2277.

Myrtle A. Jackson

Myrtle A. Jackson, 77, of Houston, beloved wife, mother, Nawnie, and friend, passed away June 19, 2004 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and cancer. Born in Cuero on August 2, 1926 to the late Ernest and Norma Wachtendorf. Preceded in death by brother Alton H. Wachtendorf.
Myrtle retired in 1991 after more than 20 years at BFI. She spent her days in retirement traveling. She was an avid bridge player, sports fan, reader, and gardener. A devoted sports enthusiast for all her grandchildren’s events. Myrtle had a head of granite and a heart of gold.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 57 years, Perry L. Jackson of Houston; children, Phil and Mima Jackson of Houston, Allen and Mary Jackson of Harrison, Arkansas, Linda and Ray Boyer of Sugar Land, and Janet and Harold Goodson of Bastrop; grandchildren, Chad and Amy Boyer, Dylan, Casey, Karlie, Cody, Shawn, and Ryan Jackson, and Clark and Logan Goodson; great-grandchildren, Bailey Poe and Wade Jackson.
Funeral arrangements were through Freund Funeral Home at 213 North Gonzales Street, in Cuero, Texas, 361-275-2343. Visitation was Monday, June 21 at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral services were Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery, Cuero.
Pallbearers were grandsons and honorary pallbearers were great-grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of your choice.
