Hayden X. Alvarado
Hayden Xadrian Alvarado, infant son of Joe Michael Canales of Austin and Elizabeth Alvarado of Yorktown, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004.
Hayden was born June 30, 2004, in Victoria.
Survivors: brother, Joe Michael Canales Jr. of Austin; and grandmothers, Mary Campos of Yorktown and Lillie Canales of Buda.

Kamri Mueller-Mares
Kamri Elizabeth Mueller-Mares, 20 months and 5 days, of Victoria, passed away Friday, July 2, 2004 at Driscoll Children's Hospital with a rare illness of Streptococcus Pneumonia.
She was born October 27, 2002 in Victoria to Amber Michelle Mueller.
She was a beautiful little girl who enjoyed trips to the country and feeding the cows on the farm, playing with her baby dolls and being around nature. She was a precious little Angel full of life.
Kamri was the daughter of Amber Michelle Mueller and John "Josh" Charles Mares II. Her grandparents are Bobby and Peggy Mueller and John and Debra Mares. Great-grandparents are Allan and Susan Butschek and Neil and Luella Mueller all of Victoria. Also, great-grandparents include John W. and Doris Mares of Cistern and Willyce and W. F. "Buck" Pettus, both deceased. She is also loved dearly by her Aunts Tiffany Mueller, Crystal Mueller, Tanya Mares, and Cassie Kirkpatrick. Kamri is survived by her half-sister Alayna Morgan Mares. May she rest in peace.

Laverne Brieger
Laverne Brieger, 78, of Yorktown, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004.
He was born Nov. 22, 1925, in Nordheim, to the late Emil and Olga Schlosser Brieger. He was a retired insurance agent and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors: wife, Leona Brieger; sons, Harlan Brieger of Riviera and Cary Brieger of Waco; sisters, Aileen Muller of Houston and Sylvia Seiler of Victoria; and two grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: sister, Doris Sucher; and brother, Marvin Brieger.

Alton Speed
Alton Speed, age 84, of New Braunfels, passed away Sept. 27, 2004.
He is survived by his son, John Speed and wife Carole of New Braunfels; sisters, Daisy Becker of Granite Shoals and Jackie Eisenhauer and husband Richard of Schertz; granddaughters, Tracy Dietz and husband Wade of Schertz and Trisha Speed of San Antonio; and great-grandsons, Darlin and Landen Dietz, both of Schertz.
He served as a soldier in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was the great-great-grandson of the founder of Yorktown, Captain John York.
Visitation was Tuesday, Sept. 28 at Schertz Funeral Home in Schertz. Graveside services and interment with military honors were Wednesday at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Arrangements were with Schertz Funeral Home, Schertz, 210-658-9224.
Pauline O. Guestinger
Pauline O. Guestinger, 98, of Cuero, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004.
She was born Feb. 16, 1906, in Petersville, to the late John and Mary Opela Onhaizer. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She was an honorary member of St. Michael's Altar Society.
Survivors: several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: husband, Edward John Guestinger; parents; sisters, Emma Marek and Mary Braden; and brothers, William C. Onhaizer, Louis J. Onhaizer, Bob Onhaizer, and Jerry Onhaizer.

Susan J. Opperman
Susan J. Opperman, passed away after a courageous six year struggle with breast cancer on Sept. 25, 2004.
She was born on Sept. 22, 1945 in Houston, but spent the majority of her childhood in Monterrey, Mexico, where she graduated from the American High School in 1963. She was an IT Systems Analyst at USAA and was with the company for over 15 years. She was also a certified lifeguard and swimming instructor. She began volunteering at Camp Discovery four years after her diagnosis.
She was preceded in death by her father, Venor Gohlke, and her brother, Richard Gohlke.
She is survived by her mother, Dessie Gohlke; son, Freddy Opperman; daughter, Deborah Lantz and husband Dallas; grandchild, Austin Lantz; sisters, Joan Ruffini and Dotty Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Saturday, Oct. 2 at Coker United Methodist Church, the Rev. Robert M. Allen officiated. Graveside services were also Saturday at Hillside Cemetery. Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 East, was in charge of the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society c/o Camp Discovery or Coker United Methodist Church.
Erna G. Onhaizer
Erna Goehring Onhaizer, 93, of Cuero, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003.
She was born January 23, 1910, in Cuero, to the late F. M. "Fritz" and Olga Roessler Goehring. She was a longtime receptionist at Don Dixon's Veterinary Clinic. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and of St Michael's Altar Society.
She is survived by her sister, Corinne G. Perrin King of Cuero.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Onhaizer; and brothers, Wayne Goehring and Carlos Goehring.
Visitation was Thursday, July 31 at Freund Funeral Home chapel. A rosary was recited Thursday evening at the funeral home chapel. Services were Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Rev. Kirby Hlaverty officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

August Odom Jr.
August Odom Jr., 71, of Cuero, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003.
He was born April 11, 1932 in Cuero to the late August Odom Sr. and Margaret Burden. He was a laborer and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a Methodist.
He is survived by his wife, Lora B. Odom of Cuero; daughter, Elizabeth Mulkey of San Antonio; step-daughter, Deborah Haynes of Cuero; step sons, Donnel Gray Jr. and WIllie Brown, both of Cuero, and Irvin Brown Jr. of Victoria; 5 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ora Gusta Campbell; step-sons, Walter Anthony Franklin, Elroy Franklin III, and John Riley Franklin; and his parents.

Georgie Pevestorff, 86, of Nordheim, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003.
She was born July 18, 1917, in Nordheim, to the late Noah and Ernestine Wuensch Alexander. She was a member of the Young at Heart Club. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Nordheim.
She is survived by her husband, Edgar Pevestorff of Nordheim; daughters, Dianna Simmons and husband, Henry, of Houston, and Mary Smorol and husband, Michael, of La Fayette, New York; and three grandchildren, Rachel, Jason, and Stephen Simmons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Esther Alexander, Lillian Seiler, Allie Homeyer, and Helen Byrom; brothers, Walter Alexander and Homer Alexander.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home. Howard Webster
Howard M. Webster, 45, of Victoria, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2003.
He was born May 14, 1958, in Jennings, Louisiana, to A. G. Webster Sr. of Victoria and Clara Dale Mullins Burow of Cuero. He served in the U. S. Army and was a local musician in Victoria. He was a Consultant for PPI in Houston. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Yorktown.
He is survived by his parents; daughters, Wendy Webster of Cuero, Tiphany Webster of Yorktown, Alison and Ashley Webster of Victoria; son, Wade Webster of Bay City; sisters, Elain Baker of Gonzales, Connie Bristol of George West, Sandy Modisette of Fort Worth, and Dana Dobbs and Rosie Rodriguez, both of Victoria; brothers, Gilbert Perez of Victoria and Roy Sanders of Cuero; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, A. G. Webster Jr. and baby Roby.
Visitation was held Tuesday, July 29 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Wednesday at the funeral home chapel, Rev. Bill Gleason officiated. Interment followed at Westside Cemetery in Yorktown.
