Joseph Sheppard II
Cuero - Joseph "Joe" Lawrence Sheppard, II, 80, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2007. He was born February 8, 1927, in Cuero to the late Constance Breeden Sheppard and Henry Fassett Sheppard, Sr. He graduated from Cuero High School and from the University of Texas at Austin. He married Rosemary Blackwell on February 14, 1953 in Cuero. He spent most of his career with Texas Eastern Transmission Corp, as a Senior Measurement Technician. He also engaged in ranching for many years. He was a former President and longtime member of the Cuero Gobbler Booster Club. He also served as President of the St. Michael's Parish Council. He was keenly interested in political affairs and was a proud member of the Democratic Party. He enjoyed golf, hunting, history, football and spending time with friends and relatives.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Blackwell Sheppard, daughter: Mary Margaret Sheppard both of Cuero, son: Joseph Lawrence Sheppard, III and wife Faye Dance Sheppard of Burleson, brothers: Frank Bates Sheppard and Henry Fassett Sheppard, Jr. of Cuero, and John Gillett Sheppard of Longview, grandson: Joseph L. Sheppard, IV of Burleson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Jane Fassett Sorrell and brother: Robert "Bob" Breeden Sheppard.
Wednesday, August 15, 2007, there will be a visitation at 6 p.m. and a rosary will follow at 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will take place on Thursday, August 16, 2007, 10 a.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Rev. Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Henry F. Sheppard, III, Michael A. Sheppard, John C. Davis, M.D., James K. Crain, Murray Tarkington, John T. Wofford, E. T. "Toby" Summers and John Roger Denson.

Olive Elizabeth "Cherry" Coppedge, 88, of Cuero, died Sunday, October 14, 2007. She was born December 11, 1918 in Fayette County to the late Leonard and Ruth Jackson Cherry. She was a loving wife, mother, teacher and member of the First Baptist Church of Cuero. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
Walter Cheshire
Yoakum - Walter Cheshire, Jr. 79, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2008. His wife and daughter were with him when he died peacefully at Stevens Health Care and Rehab Center in Hallettsville.
George Dietze
Cuero - George Edward Dietze, 89, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008. He was born October 10, 1918, in Cuero to George A and Nellie Froelich Dietze. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as an electrician for many years.
Ceola Hopkins
Cuero - Ceola Mathis Hopkins, 81, passed away, Monday, March 3, 2008. She was born December 29, 1926, in Cuero to Lott and Ruth Hopkins Mathis. She attended the Daule High School. She accepted Christ at an early age. Ceola was a life member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. She worked in the nursing profession and was co-owner of the City Cleaners in Moulton. She was united in marriage to Emanuel Hopkins, Sr. He was a loving and devoted husband for 55 years, until his death.
Alfreda Kohutek
Yoakum - Alfreda Marie Fuchs-Kohutek passed away March 4, 2008. She was born October 2, 1914 in Mission Valley. She was a beloved mother and licensed vocational nurse at Burns Hospital in Cuero.
Willard Kuepfer
Cuero - Willard Wm. Kuepfer, 57, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 1, 2008. He was born January 12, 1951, in Highland, Ill to Willard Edward and Alice Brauer Kuepfer. He married Mary Gonzales Kuepfer on February 12, 1996, in Las Vegas. He worked for Prodigy Construction Co. and was a member of Victory Family Church.
Ella Zamzow
Mrs. Ella Adeline Zamzow, age 92, went to be with her Lord peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 in San Antonio. She was born to Willie and Cora Metting Lamprecht on October 24, 1915 in Davy, TX. She was baptized and confirmed as a Lutheran. She married the love of her life, Arno Willie Zamzow in the Spring on April 4, 1933 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Karnes City, attaining 70 years of marriage and living near Lenz all of those years. She taught her children to speak German and English and to always have faith in God.
Mildred Johnson
Cuero - Mildred Johnson, 81, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008. She was born on March 14, 1927, in Cuero. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and served as an usher for her church.
She is survived by a son: Nathaniel Brown of Corpus Christi, friends: Pilar and Mary Ruiz of Cuero, and Delores Williams and her family of Cuero.
She was preceded in death by her mother: Susie May Anderson, two brothers: Frank Jones and Willie B. Jones, grandfather: Louis Steen, and her companion: Woodrow Johnson.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 2, at 10 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery.

Graveside services for Nancy Joan Hill, age 80 of Gunter, formerly of Bonham, were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 2, in Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Pastor Brian Rayburn of Living Word Church of God in Bonham officiated. Nancy passed away early Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Hilltop Haven in Gunter.

Cuero - Adella A. Pilat, 84, passed away Friday, May 2, 2008. She was born January 27, 1924, in Flatonia to Anton and Ludmila Peterick Rudolf. Adella married Louis A. Pilat on February 19, 1944 in Moulton. Adella was an LVN OB Nurse at Burns Hospital and Cuero Community Hospitals in Cuero.
Arline Popp
Arline Margret (Junker) Popp passed away March 28, 2008. She was three days shy of 87 years. Arline was born in Dewitt County Texas on March 31, 1921 to Rudolph and Emilia Junker. She attended school in Cuero, Texas and had several jobs during the depression there. She moved to Torrance, CA in 1953. There she went to work for the United States Post Office as Christmas help in 1954, which began a 23-year career until she moved back to Texas. She became the Postmaster in Thomaston, Texas until 1981 when she retired with 27 years service.

San Antonio - Pearline Johnson, 86, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008. She was born March 6, 1922, in Goliad, to the late Selise Adam and Otto Shelton. She was a homemaker.
Lonnie Koenning
Cuero - Lonnie A. Koenning, 81, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2008. He was born March 25, 1927, in Gonzales to Adolph and Lillie Stock Koenning. Mr. Koenning served in the Coast Guard-Merchant Marine. He was a Veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged from the Coast Guard after two years of service.
Patricia Ann Janssen
Patricia Ann Janssen of Yorktown, formerly of Runge, Texas, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2002.
She was born August 12, 1946 in Victoria County, Texas, to Beulah Roemer and the late August W. Geryk of Port Lavaca. She married William Lee Janssen on May 25, 1985 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Runge.
Patricia taught first grade at Runge Elementary School for 19 years and children with special needs for one year. She was "Teacher of the Year" for Runge I.S.D. in 1990. Teaching children gave her great joy and she was very passionate about her work with young people. There was always a hug and smile for everyone. She was president of the Delta Kappa Gamma Omicron Chapter for two years. She served on the Board of Directors for Karnes County Teacher's Association, former president of Runge Ladies Auxiliary to the Veteran's of Foreign Wars.
Patricia was a member of the Runge Birthday Club, Runge Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary, and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Runge. She served for several years as president of the Runge P.T.O. Patricia loved to fish, garden, read, and go "Bear Hunting" with her grandchildren. William and Pat were actively building their dream home in the "woods."
Patricia was preceded in death by her father, August and stepfather, Gene B. Thurmond of Victoria.
Survivors include mother, Beulah Roemer and stepfather Kenneth of Port Lavaca; husband, William Lee Janssen of Yorktown; daughters, Pamela Lynn Howard Yosko and husband William of Runge; Stephanie Ann Howard Bednorz and husband, Christopher of Victoria; son, Gregory Wayne Howard of Edna; stepdaughter, Shannon Lea Janssen Merritt and husband Dwayne Merritt of Corpus Christi; grandsons, Colton Dallas Landgrebe of Runge, Keyon Ambrose and Kade Patrick Bednorz of Victoria; step-grandson, Justin Earl Merritt of Corpus Christi; brothers, Johnny C. Young of Meyersville and wife Marty; August R. Geryk of Cascade, Montana and wife Becky; sister, Sherron Kay Geryk McGrew of Port Lavaca and husband Michael; and numerous nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
Family visitation was Friday, July 26 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Runge. Followed by a prayer service. Funeral services were Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rev. Edwina Baethge officiated. Graveside services followed Saturday at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery in Port Lavaca. Arrangements with Janssen Funeral Home, Runge, TX. 830-239-4862.

Olevia I. Monroe
Olevia Ivymae Monroe, 81, of Cuero, died Friday, July 19, 2002.
She was born September 20, 1920, in Opelousas, La., to the late William and Susie Jackson Lewis. She was a homemaker and member of New Testament Holiness Church.
Survivors: daughters, Ninaye Body and Joyce Screws, both of Cuero; sons, Hosea Monroe of Carrollton, Ga. and James Monroe of Opelousas, La.; 23 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Henry Monroe Sr.; daughter, Irma Rose Monroe; sons, Joe Raylan Hayes, Glenn David Monroe, and Henry Monroe Jr.; and parents.
Services were Sunday at New Testament Holiness Church, Rev. Calvis Brooks officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Larry Carter, Chaun Brooks, Trevor Brooks, Timothy Body, Tre' Body and Marco Screws.

Tommy Joe Rodriguez
Tommy Joe Rodriguez, formerly of Cuero, left us on July 18, 2002 at the age of 40.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Sarah Rodriguez of Cuero.
He is survived by his daughter, Sara Rodriguez of San Antonio; sons, Tommy Rodriguez II and David Zamora, both of San Antonio; sisters, Rosemary Rodriguez, of Cuero, and Eve Varela, of Houston; brothers, Larry Rodriguez, Fernando Cisneros, Calletano Cisneros, and Sylvester Fernandez, all of Cuero.
A rosary was recited Sunday at Castillo Mission Funeral Home. Services were held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. The burial followed at San Fernando Cemetery #2.
Pallbearers were David Zamora, Manuel Zamora, Saul Martinez, Pancho Martinez, Julio Sanchez, and Eddie Cano.
