Luther Wesley Hall, 79, of Cuero, died Monday, June 27, 2005.
Services were Wednesday, June 29 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, Rev. Ken Ramey officiated. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, Ex-POW, MOPH, VVA, and the KWV followed at Nursery Cemetery. Rosa Lee Schlinke
Rosa Lee Schlinke, 72, of Cuero was called home Thursday, June 30, 2005. She was born February 19, 1933 in Jackson County to the late Fritz and Bridgett Gabrysch Matejek. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
Her favorite pastime was baking, fishing and playing dominoes. She is known best for her delicious peach cobbler. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by Farris Schlinke, her devoted husband of 55 years; daughters, Carolyn Lucas and spouse, Tommie Sr., of Cuero and Nancy Bostick and spouse, Jimmy, of Rocksprings; son, Harold Schlinke and spouse, Anna, of Cuero; grandchildren, Dawn Bostick, Bradley Bostick, Marsha Schlinke Pustka, Daniel Schlinke, Ash Lee Schlinke, Tina Lucas, and Tommie Lucas Jr.; sisters, Mary Baker, Doris Baker, Martha Workman, and Pauline Zuber; brothers, Dave Matejek and Clarence Matejek; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Saturday, July 2 at Freund Funeral Home. Services were Sunday at Freund Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Steve Byrne officiated. Burial followed at Lindenau Community Cemetery under the direction of Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Daniel Schlinke, Bradley Bostick, Tommie Lucas Jr., Patrick Matejek, Will Adams, and Ricky Parker.

Betty O’Bannion Hawthorne Wilkerson
Betty O’Bannion Hawthorne Wilkerson, 62, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2005.
She was born in Ellis County on Oct. 22, 1942 to the late A. B. and Ruth Kenner O’Bannion of Kirbyville. Betty worked for the Gulf Bend Center of Victoria as a Benefits Supervisor.
She is survived by her mother; husband, Jerry Wilkerson of Cuero; son, Joe Lynn Hawthorn of Buna; daughter, Melissa Porter of Austin; five grandchildren; brothers, Edd “Buddy” O’Bannion of Kirbyville and Mike O’Bannion of Shiner; and sister, Jo Ruth Smith of Kirbyville.
She was preceded in death by her father and first husband, John Franklin Hawthorn.
Visitation and a prayer service was Thursday, June 30, at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero. A visitation at the E. E. Stringer Funeral Home in Buna was held Friday. Services were Saturday at the E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Burial was at Antioch Cemetery, Buna, under the direction of Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Alta Morgan Anderson
Alta Morgan Anderson, 82, died June 30, 2005 at Mission Nursing Center. Alta was a Valley native and had lived in Sharyland most of her life. She was active in civic work with the PTA, was a Boy Scout leader and a Sunday School teacher. She was also a teacher at Crockett Elementary in McAllen.
She is survived by her son, Wallace E. Anderson Jr. of Cuero; her two daughters, Janice L. Ehlinger of Houston and Judith A. Oates of Mission; her three sisters, Dorothy Myatt of Mission, Vi Colianni of Seadrift, and Lois Truhe of Corpus Christi; 9 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace E. Anderson Sr.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Morgan; her brother, Buck Morgan; and a grandchild, Sherrie Anderson.
Visitation was held Saturday, July 2, at Kreidler Memorial Chapel with a graveside service following at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Kreidler Funeral Home, McAllen.

Elfrieda Ida Mary Fetters
Elfrieda Ida Mary Fetters, 85, a long-time Cuero resident, passed away on June 10, 2005, in Corpus Christi after a long illness. She was born in Weesatche on Dec. 19, 1919, to the late Max Otto and Augusta G. Weise.
She is survived by her brother, Dennis Weise; son, Anthony G. Fetters (Hannalore) of Germany; daughter, Linda K. Fetters (Hudson) of Corpus Christi; and granddaughter, Ellen Fetters of Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen E. Fetters; brother, Joe Weise; and sister, Hertha Schultz.
She was a homemaker for many years until her husband’s death in 1969. After that she was employed as a nurse’s aide at the Cuero Community Hospital. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 16 at 3 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Cuero. Family and friends are invited to attend the service and the reception, which will be held afterwards in St. Mark’s Fellowship Hall.
Inez M. Garcia
Inez Morales Garcia, born to Paz and Jaunita Morales on January 29, 1922 in Cuero, passed away on June 24, 2005.
She was co-owner, along with her sister, Ginger Hernandez, of the El Zarape Cafe in Bay City, and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, Ray Garcia Jr. and wife Lisa of Houston, Rosario Rodriguez and husband Rolando Rodriguez Sr. of Bay City, Regina Garcia of The Woodlands, and Rita Martinez and husband Rudolfo of Bay City; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Pete Morales and wife Connie, Frank Morales and wife Elisa, Paz Morales and wife Andrea; and sisters, Inocensia Ginger Hernandez, and Janie Amador and husband David Amador.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reynaldo Garcia Sr.; her parents; brother, Ceasar Morales; and sister, Cruz Bustos.
A rosary was recited Sunday, June 27, 2005 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral mass was held June 27 Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Revs. Gerry Cernoch and Dan Morales officiated. Burial was at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Raymond Brzozowski
Raymond Brzozowski, 80, of Smiley, died Saturday, June 18, 2005.
He was born Oct. 24, 1924 in the Stieren Community in Gonzales County to the late Joseph and Julia Roznovsky Brzozowski. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a carpenter, farmer, rancher, and did custom hay bailing in the Smiley area. He was a member of the Gonzales Elks Lodge, Hermann Sons Lodge, Westhoff American Legion, and St. James Catholic Church.
He is survived by his sons, Glenn Brzozowski and wife Janis of Haskell, Kenneth Brzozowski and wife Laverne of Gonzales, Dwayne Brzozowski and wife Sondra of Westhoff; grandchildren, Corie Bishop, Brian Brzozowski, Kenna Lucas, Le Ann Brzozowski, Jenny Brzozowski, Maggie Brzozowski, Justin Brzozowski, and Ashley Brzozowski; great-grandchildren, Rudy Espinosa III, Gavin Brzozowski, and Brayden Silvas; sisters, Lily Neitsch of Gonzales and Carlena Bush of Tuleta; and brother, Joe Bailey Brzozowski of West Columbia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Anna Marie Smith and Virgie Semmler; and brothers, Ernest (Slim) Brzozowski and Leon Brzozowski.

Rudolph Bates, 92, of Cuero, died Saturday, June 11, 2005.
He was born July 14, 1912, in Fannin, to the late Louis and Emma Bates. He was a janitor and a member of the Church of God in Christ.
He is survived by his stepson, Charles N. Perryman of Cuero.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Mikes Bates; sisters, Akness Mitchell, Louise Moss, Susie Odoms, Martha Craig and Mary Cunningham; and brothers, Jake Bates, Charlie Bates, and Earl Williams.
Visitation was Friday, June 17 at First Pentecostal Church of God in Christ. Services were Friday at the church, Rev. Eunice Braziel officiated. Burial was at Woodmen Cemetery in Cuero. Jamison Funeral Home, Yoakum, 361-293-3121.

Irene E. Kelch
Irene Elizabeth Kelch, 77, of Yorktown, died June 12, 2005.
She was born June 16, 1927, in Yorktown and was a retired waitress and a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Lindenau.
Survivors: daughter, Irene Spence of Thomaston; sons, Anthony Moore of Round Rock, Victor Moore of Austin, and Larry Moore of Houston; brother, Edmond Plasczyk of Yorktown; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Wilfred B. Kelch; sister, Lillian Respondek; brother, Victor "Sonny" Plasczyk; and granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Moore.

Ernest F. Waskow
Ernest F. Waskow, 93, of Nordheim, Tuesday, June 14, 2005.
He was born July 21, 1911, in Nordheim to the late Julius and Pauline Best Waskow. He was a farmer and rancher and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Lois Waskow of Nordheim and Marion Ruth Pfeil of Floresville; sons, Jimmy Waskow and Robert Waskow, both of Nordheim; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Frances Waskow; brother, Fritz Waskow; sisters, Frieda Wilems, Martha Frost, Hulda Lucas, Alma Waskow, and Augusta "Susie" Braumann.

Linda Zapata, 52, of Victoria, died Sunday, June 12, 2005.
She was born Nov. 6, 1952 in Cuero to the late Ben V. and Vera Chilson Zapata. She was a homemaker and a Catholic.
She is survived by her husband, Wilbert Roznovsky of Victoria; daughters, Belinda Zapata of Cuero and Jackie Zapata and Rosalinda Zapata, both of Victoria; son, Mark Zapata of Yorktown; sisters, Virginia Zapata and Anita Barnett, both of Cuero, and Anna May Sayles of Corpus Christi; brothers, Richard Zapata Sr. of Goliad and John Ray Zapata of Cuero; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
