Vieona Schlenker Bishop

Vieona Schlenker Bishop was born on Nov. 21, 1933 in Yoakum, Texas. She graduated from Yoakum High School and attended Business College in Cuero, Texas. She began her life in Del Rio in 1960 and lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, November 24, 2002.
Vieona had a long working career in Del Rio, first retiring from Producers Wool and Mohair after 20 years and continuing to work for another 10 years for TABC at the Del Rio International Bridge.
Ms. Bishop is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Vieona Bishop of Del Rio; brother, Edward Schlenker and wife Agnes; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were Wednesday, November 27 at the G.W. Cox Memorial Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Brian Spangler officiating. Graveside services were held in Yoakum on Friday at the Hermann-Sons Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the Gilda Radner Familial Ovarian Cancer Registry, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Elm and Carlto Streets, Buffalo, N.Y., 14263-0001.

George Harvey Luker

George Harvey Luker, 85, of Lockhart, died November 25, 2002.
He was born in Stockdale on August 22, 1917 to the late Edward Harvey and Mimie Ethel McBride Luker. He was a pipefitter and a Pentecostal.
He is survived by daughters, Nancy Sims, Peggy Gossett, Jimmy Lou Richmond, Gaynell Goehring, Kathy Hahn, Debra Mills, and Susan Earp; sons, George Allen, Harvey, James, Billy, and John Luker; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Irene Luker; parents; and daughter, Mary Thornton.
Memorial services will be held at Faith Temple Church in Nixon on Saturday, December 7 at 2 p.m., Revs. Kenneth Mills and David Sims officiating. A private burial will be held at Steele Branch Cemetery in Stockdale. Finch Funeral Chapel, Stockdale, 830-996-3811.

Lorene A. H. Mueller

Lorene Ammerman Henrichs Mueller, 76, of Westhoff, died Thursday, November 28, 2002.
She was born October 1, 1926, in Shiner, to Mary Weeken Ammerman of Moulton and the late Dick Ammerman. She was a beautician and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Westhoff. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Cuero and the American Legion Auxiliary in Westhoff.
Survivors include husband, Adrian Mueller; daughters, Lanette Gips of Cuero and Bonnie Burton of Victoria; sons, David Henrichs of Moulton, Ricky Henrichs of Victoria, and Denis Mueller of Cuero; mother; brother, Melvin Ammerman of Seguin; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by first husband, Edgar Henrichs; son, Ralph Henrichs; and father.
Visitation was Friday, November 29 at Freund Funeral Home chapel. Services were Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Westhoff. Burial will be at Westhoff Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers were Russell Henrichs, Mark Henrichs, Darren Henrichs, J. P. Gips, Kyle Mueller, and Matthew Gips.

Pablo Alvarez

Pablo Alvarez, 70, of Yorktown, died Thursday, November 28, 2002.
He was born March 8, 1932, in Nordheim, to the late Pedro Sr. and Manuela Alvarez. He was a bar owner.
He is survived by wife, Janie Hilton; sister, Olivia Cano of Temple; and brother, Isidro Alvarez of Nordheim.
He was preceded in death by parents; sisters, Rosita Alvarez, Angelita Alvarez, and Isabel Alvarez; and brother, Pedro Alvarez Jr.
A rosary will be recited Friday, November 29 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home chapel. Services were Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Runge, Rev. Paschal Bergin officiated. Burial will be at Runge Cemetery. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, 361-564-2277.

Mathilda H. Kozok

Mathilda H. Kozok, 77, of Yorktown, died Friday, November 29, 2002.
She was born March 14, 1925, in Yorktown, to the late Edward and Sophie Muschalek Danysh.
She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Holy Cross Rosary Society for many years. She was a homemaker.
Survivors: daughter, Elizabeth Ann Stebbins of Cuero; sons, Johnnie E. Kozok and James G. Kozok, both of Yorktown, and David G. Kozok of Fargo, N.D.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Johnny V. Kozok; parents; and brothers, Daniel Danysh, Edmond Danysh, and Edward Danysh.
A rosary was recited Tuesday, December 3 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home chapel. Services were Wednesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Rev. Frank Kaplinski officiated. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, 361-564-2277.

Annie Louise Ludwig Miller

Annie Louise Ludwig Miller, 79, of Katy, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at her home.
Annie Louise Schlenstedt Miller was born on June 20, 1924 in Westhoff to Herman and Leona Leonhardt Schlenstedt. She has been a resident of the Katy area since 1994, where she has been a member of Memorial Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Katy VFW Post 9182.
She is survived by her husband, Roy F. Miller of Katy; her children, Kenneth and Janice Ludwig of Houston and Annette and Victor Leach of Katy; stepchildren, Will and Karen Miller of Katy and Ron and Geraldine McClain of Beaverton, Michigan; grandchildren, Jennifer Ludwig of Houston, Melissa Leach and Christopher Leach, both of Katy, Heather Haliburton of College Station, Elizabeth Trombley and Timothy McClain, both of Gladwin, Michigan, Lori Kelso of Dryden, Michigan, David McClain of Beaverton, Michigan; and by her sister, Edna Bowen of Cuero.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles B. Ludwig, in 1997, and by a son, Charles B. Ludwig Jr., in 1972.
A memorial service was held Saturday, August 16 at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Katy, Rev. Melvin Newman officiated. Funeral services under the direction of Schmidt Funeral Home, Katy, 281-391-2424.

W. R. Leske

W. R. “Bill” Leske, 76, of Cuero, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003.
He was born May 20, 1927 in Cuero to the late Rudolph and Katie Bengtson Leske. He graduated from St. Mary University in San Antonio. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a rancher and the owner of Leske Motor Company since 1962. He was a past president for both the Rotary Club and the Cuero Country Club. He was a member of VFW #3972, American Legion Dinter Post #3, and the TPA.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Wallis Leske; daughter, Trisha M. Priest of Columbus; sons, W. R. “Bill” Leske Jr. of Victoria and Robert J. “Bob” Leske of Cuero; sister, Dorothy Luttes of Cuero; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lillian Hagedorn, Julia Cooper, and Ethel Niska; and brothers, Martin H. Leske Sr. and Arthur “Bud” Leske.
Visitation was Tuesday, August 19 at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 20 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Steve Bryne officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Elvie O. Egg

Elvie O. Egg, 86, of Meyersville, died Wednesday, August 13, 2003.
She was born January 12, 1917, in Clinton, to the late Berthold Fred and Meta Goebel Schrade. She was a LVN at Bohman Hospital and Cuero Community Hospital. She worked at the Meyersville school cafeteria, was active in the Meyersville 4-H Club, and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
Survivors: husband, Walter Egg; daughters, Barbara Mueller of Meyersville and Jeanette Pardue of Coushatta, Louisiana; sons, Rubert Egg of Meyersville and Charles Egg of Houston; brother, Lawrence E. Schrade of Cuero; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: brother, Melvin Schrade.
Visitation was Friday, August 15 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Saturday at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. Nick Wagner officiated. Burial was at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Meyersville. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Ellen J. Helmers

Ellen Jane Helmers, 100, of Nordheim, died Wednesday, August 13, 2003.
She was born August 17, 1902, in Meyersville to the late Albert and Johanna Rangnow Thieme. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was a member of Royal Neighbors, Sons of Herman, Home Demonstration Club, Garden Club and Young at Heart. She was president of the Nordheim Cemetery Association for several years.
Survivors: grandchildren, Howard Helmers of Victoria and Lana Helmers of Nordheim; and great-grandchild, Joshua Helmers of Victoria.
Preceded in death by: husband, August Helmers; son, Elroise Helmers; sisters, Caroline Sparck and Olivia Mueller; and brothers, Leroy Thieme, Archie Thieme, Henry Thieme, and Clarence Thieme.
Visitation was Friday, August 15 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home chapel. Graveside services were Saturday at Nordheim Cemetery, the Rev. Edwina Baethge officiated. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, 361-564-2277.

The Reverend Hubert A. Hanson

Rev. Hubert Alton Hanson, 80, of Loveland, Colorado, died July 25, 2003 in Loveland.
He was born September 24, 1922, in Waubay, South Dakota, to John McKinley and Julia Mathilda Johnson Hanson. He married Dolores Ellen Cowan on June 6, 1946, at the American Lutheran Church in Webster, South Dakota.
Rev. Hanson graduated from Webster High School, Luther Junior College in Wahoo, Nebraska, and Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. He studied for the Lutheran ministry at Augustana Seminary in Rock Island and was ordained at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1949.
His first parish was Elim Lutheran Church in Hockinson, Washington from 1949 to 1953. From 1954-1962 he served Trinity Lutheran Church in Loveland, Colorado. He served St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in San Antonio from 1963-1967.
Beginning in 1967, Pastor Hanson served St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Cuero for 20 years, until his retirement in 1987.
In Cuero, he held offices in the Mid-Coast Area of the Church Synod, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and the Ministerial Alliance. In 1970 he served as Jaycees spokesman for the City of Cuero when the city was named one of 11 All-American Cities in the nation.
While in Loveland, Rev. Hanson served as a board member of Lutheran Social Services, Loveland Council of Churches, Ministerial Alliance, Town and Country Churches Conference, Cosmopolitan and Rotary. He also served on the original steering committee which founded the House of Neighborly Service.
In San Antonio, his accomplishments included serving of the Annual Texas-Louisiana Synod meeting and implementing and after-school study center through grants from the Hogg & Breckenridge foundations.
Among his many activities, Pastor Hanson was a leader in Boy Scouts at each of the congregations he served. In 1980, he was honored with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. Sponsored by the Lutheran Conference on Scouting, he taught at the Philmont Scout Camp in 1968. He was a life-long advocate of Soil and Water Conservation and was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying elk, duck, and goose hunting and fishing the streams and lakes of Colorado and the waters of the Texas Gulf Coast with his sons and grandsons.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores of Loveland; two daughters, Janet and husband M. Key Clarke of Mandeville, Louisiana, and Marcia and husband Val F. Gavito Jr. of Plano; two sons, Mark Hanson Sr. and wife Marla of Victoria, and Kevin Hanson of Loveland; one sister, Bernice Gordon of Chandler, Arizona; five grandsons, Chris Gavito, Cory Gavito, Mark Hanson Jr, Lucas Hanson, and William Clarke; two granddaughters, Jennifer Gavito and Katy Clarke; one great-grandson, Tristan Hanson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harvey L. Hanson.
A Celebration of the Life of Rev. Hubert A Hanson was held at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Loveland, Colorado on July 30, 2003.

Albert Carmona

Albert Carmona, 52, of Cuero, died Thursday, August 14, 2003.
He was born on August 18, 1950 in Cuero to the late Miguel and San Juanita Vasquez Carmona. He was an upholster and a member of El Buen Pastor Christian Church where he was active in the music Ministry, men’s ministry and served as a deacon and trustee on the Board of Trustees.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Trevino Carmona of Cuero; daughters, Michelle Reyes of Falls, New York, and Ruth Ann Carmona of Cuero; sisters, Martha Sanchez and Marina Munoz, both of Cuero; brothers, Rev. John Carmona and Jesse Carmona, both of Victoria, Manuel Carmona and Mike Carmona Jr., both of Cuero, and Rev. Abraham Carmona of Brownfield; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Rachel Carmona.
A prayer service was held Saturday, August 16 at El Buen Pastor Christian Church. Funeral services were Sunday at the church, the Rev. David Maldonado officiated. Burial followed at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Ismael Reyes, Manuel Carmona Jr., John Carmona, Desi Carmona, Candelario Munoz Jr., and Gilbert Torres.

Gilbert H. Dreier

Gilbert Harlan Dreier, 67, of Meyersville, died Thursday, August 14, 2003.
He was born April 24, 1936, in Meyersville, to the late Henry Otto and Elsie Goebel Dreier. He worked for Valley Gold Creamery, Sauer Plumbing, Al Johnson Construction, Ferguson's 5&10, and Beakly's Western Auto. He was a patrolman for the city of Cuero and worked for National Life & Accident Insurance Co., IMC Drilling Mud, and Egg Dairy. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Meyersville.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Oehlke Dreier; daughter, Dawn Dreier Howard of Dayton; sons, Keith Dreier and Todd Dreier, both of Dayton; Craig Dreier of Baytown, and Dr. Brent Dreier of Meyersville; sister, Ruby Nell Berger of Gonzales; brother, James Dreier of Corpus Christi; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation was Friday, August 15 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Saturday at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. Nicholas Wagner officiated. Burial was at St. John Cemetery in Meyersville. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
