Johanna Behrens, 94, of Yorktown, died Thursday,
She was born June 7, 1905, in Weesatche, to the late Henry and Ida Sievers Karnei. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Weesatche.
Survivors: daughters, Junell Suggs and Carol Franke, both of Yorktown; brother, Nathaniel Karnei of Weesatche; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceded in death by: husband, Eugene Behrens; parents; sisters, Mata Henke, Emmie Albrecht and Nathalia Dohmann; brothers, Reinhold Karnei, Caesar Karnei, Alfred Karnei and Norman Karnei.
Visitation Saturday at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home chapel.
Services were Sunday at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Heidi Harris officiating.
Burial was at St. Andrew's Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers: Robert Franke Sr., Randy S. Franke, Michael Franke, Dr. Larry Franke, Bill Kirchoff Jr. and Robert Franke Jr.

Leona Schlenstedt
Leona Schlenstedt, 97, of Cuero, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000.
She was born Nov. 20, 1902, in Weesatche, to the late Max and Lena Karnei Leonhardt. She was a homemaker and caretaker for the elderly. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and Sons of Hermann.
Survivors: daughters, Edna Bowen of Cuero and Annie Louise Ludwig of Katy; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceded in death by: husband, Herman Schlenstedt; parents; sisters, Alfreda Steindorf and Dora Steindorf; brothers, Arnold Leonhardt and Bill Leonhardt; and one grandson, Charles Ludwig Jr.
Services were Saturday at Freund Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Steve Byrne officiating.
Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home of Cuero was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers: J.D. Bowen, Victor Leach, Chris Reed, Kenneth Ludwig, Michael Bowen and Wilbert Steindorf.

Willard J Bade
Willard J. Bade, 76, of Yoakum, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000.
He was born February 16, 1924 in Cuero to the late Willie and Ella Krause Bade. He was the former owner and operator of Yoakum Speed Wash, worked at Jahn Refrigeration and also worked in the Maintenance Department at Huth Memorial Hospital. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He was a member of the D.A.V. and was a 50 year member of the Hermann Sons. He was also a member of the Sweet Home American Legion. He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Survivors: Esta Lee Beckerman Bade of Yoakum; daughter, Kathryn Ann Hall of Yoakum; son, Dennis Wayne Bade of Cuero; sisters, Jerline Hanzelka of San Antonio, Elnora Luddeke of San Antonio, and Vardell Guertin of Rockport; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Preceded in death by his parents.
Services were Monday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Rev. Gary Goodson officiating.
Burial was at Hermann Sons Cemetery.
Memorials: Holy Cross Lutheran Church or American Heart Fund.
Robert Paul Johns
Robert Paul Johns, age 50, passed away Friday, February 25, 2000 after a short battle with cancer. Johns was a native of San Antonio and graduated from Edison High School in 1968 and Southwest Texas State University in 1972. He was in the teaching and coaching profession for 28 years at several schools.
These schools included Kruger Middle School-San Antonio, Rockport/Fulton High School, Poth H.S., Cuero H.S., Abilene H.S., and John Jay H.S. Bob was the Defensive Coordinator and P.E. Department Chairman at John Jay H.S. for the past 10 years. During his tenure in coaching, he had many winning teams in football, baseball and track. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes, The Texas High School Coaches Assoc. for 28 years and the Assoc. of Texas Professional Educators. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Essie Johns. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Susan Pfluger Johns; son, Michael Paul Johns; sister, Pat Gobar and husband, James and nephew, Justin of San Antonio; brother-in-law, Charles Pfluger, Jr. and wife, Lindsey and nephews, Jason and Kevin of Floresville; mother-in-law, Delma Pfluger of New Braunfels and numerous friends in the coaching & teaching profession. Services were conduct Tuesday, February 29, at Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes. Interment followed at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael Johns Scholarship Fund in memory of his father, Robert Johns. Checks should be made payable to San Antonio Teachers Credit Union and mailed to the Northside Athletic Office, 7001 Culebra Rd., San Antonio, TX 78238. Bernie Cuellar
Services for Bernie Cuellar, 25, of Cuero, who died Monday, June 5, 2000, were held Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, the Rev. Daniel Giorgi officiating.
He was born Oct. 1, 1974, in Cuero, to Ernest and Blanche Rebeles Cuellar Sr or Cuero. He was a 1993 graduate of Cuero High School and was employed by Data Recognition Computer Corporation in Austin. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Survivors: parents; sister, Monica Cuellar of Houston; brothers, Mickey Cuellar of Round Rock and Ernesto Cuellar Jr. of Cuero; grandmother, Josephine Cuellar of Levelland.
Preceded in death by: grandparents, Sylvester and Juanita Rebeles and Santos Cuellar.
A rosary was recited at Freund Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Daniel Giorgi officiating.
Burial was at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, was in charge of arrangements.

John D. Bowen
John D. Bowen, 84, of Cuero, died Friday, June 9, 2000.
He was born April 21, 1916, in Chickasha, Okla., to the late William R. and Cordelia Dawson Bowen. He was a retired self-employed businessman who was in the wholesale grocery business in Cuero. He was also a salesman, merchant, farmer and dairyman. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, a member of American Legion Post No. 3 and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors: wife, Sibyl Stevens Bowen; daughter, Diane Blaschke of Cuero; sons, Douglas Bowen of Moreno Valley, Calif., Bill Bowen of Corpus Christi and Raymond Bowen of Shiner; sister, Lulu Mae Cunningham of Fort Smith, Ark.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: parents; sister, Verdell Howell; brothers, J.C. Bowen and Buford D. "Red" Bowen.
Visitation was Saturday at Freund Funeral Home, Inc.
Services were Monday at the funeral home, Hollis Stevens officiating.
Burial with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post No. 3 and Veterans for Foreign Wars No. 3972 was at Memory Gardens in Cuero. Freund Funeral Home, Inc., Cuero, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Lou Cortez
Services for Mary Lou Cortez of Rosenberg were held Thursday, May 18, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Rosenberg with interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Father Francis Launtrie officiated the services.
She was born October 24, 1950 in Kenedy to Raymundo and Guadalupe Cortez, and passed away May 12, 2000.
She was preceded in death by her father and is survived by her sons, John E. Rios and David Ray Rios; a daughter, Shirley A. Rios; her mother, Guadalupe Penilla Fonseca; her brothers, Saul Cortez and his wife, Lala, and Adam Cortez and his wife, Christina; and a sister, Sylvia Castaneda and her husband, Raymond.
A rosary was held May 17 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home. Arrangements were made under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
Pallbearers were Robert Castaneda, Michael Castaneda, Tiger Gonzales, Jeremy Pardo, Rodney Rubalcaba and Paul Banda, Jr.
Lena M. Whitten
Lena M. Whitten, 87, of Cuero, died Saturday, June 10, 2000.
She was born Oct. 7, 1912, in Sublime, to the late Jack and Mary Hall Rickman. She was a textile worker at Guadalupe Valley Cotton Mill and a homemaker.
Survivors: son, Tommy J. Whitten of Cuero; brothers, Richard Rickman and Jack Rickman both of Cuero and one grandchild.
Preceded in death by: parents and husband, Joe Bennett Whitten.
Graveside services were Tuesday at Hillside Cemetery, with Terry Brown officiating. Freund Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Antonia Bazan
Services for Antonia Bazan, 98, of Cuero, who died Tuesday, June 6, 2000 were held Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, the Rev. Daniel Giorgi offiiciating.
Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers: Mario Olguin, Eddie Olguin, Rene Olguin, Albert Olguin, Michael Olguin and Michael J. Jones.
Brigido Gonzales
Brigido Gonzales, 70, of Westhoff, died Monday, August 14, 2000.
He was born December 18, 1929 in DeWitt County to the late Ysidro Gonzales and the late Apolina Ramos. He worked as a farmer and was a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife: Blanca Suniga Gonzales of Westhoff; daughters: Elida Sanchez of Cuero, Gloria Gonzales of Edna; sons: Brigido Gonzales, Jr. of Yoakum, Augustine Gonzales of Cuero, Henry Gonzales of Edna, Adam Gonzales of Westhoff, and Herman Gonzales of Westhoff; sister: Lupe Sambinitti of Temple; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He is proceeded in death by his parents; brother, Tony Gonzales; and one grandson.
A rosary was held Tuesday, August 15, at 7:30 p.m. at Freund Funeral Chapel.
There will be a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass on Wednesday (today) at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Westhoff with the Rev. Francis Afare-Bediako officiating. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Westhoff.
Freund Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
