Murray C. Marie
Murray C. Marie, 75, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and formerly of Cuero, died August 7, 2002.
He was born September 8, 1926 in Cuero to the late Archie and Merle Murray Marie. He graduated from Cuero High School with the class of 1943 and attended Northwestern University in Denton. He was raised in the Baptist faith and served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. He was employed with Sun Oil Company for a number of years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a past commander of the American Legion Post #353 in Carthage. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Lodge in Hot Springs. He served as Chairman of the Board of the First National Bank, served on the Panola County Appraisal District Board, the Carthage Independent School District Board, and the Board of Directors for the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. He enjoyed hunting and travelling.
He is preceded in death by a wife, Beverly Kyle Marie; son, Kyle Matthews Marie; parents; and sister, Mary Genevia Marie.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Marie of Hot Springs, AR; step-sons, Danny Leon Miller and wife Marilyn of Carthage and Dudley Miller and wife Lisa of Cleveland, OH; step-daughters, Dixilyn Miller of Hot Springs, AR, and Debra Hunter and Dean of Greenville, SC; brother, J. K. Marie and wife Sandra of Cuero; sisters, Melba McGlothlin and husband Charles of Cuero and Clairece Barnes of Cuero; special friends, Riley and Linda Boothe of Cuero; 5 step-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host f friends.

Wheeler Daniel Edwards Jr.
Wheeler Daniel Edwards, Jr., with his wife at his side, joined his Heavenly Father on Monday at the age of 41 after a hard-fought battle with colon cancer. He was welcomed into the loving arms of his mother and grandfather who preceded him in death.
Wheeler was born on January 8, 1961 in Cuero, Texas to Jewell Lovern King and Wheeler D. Edwards Sr. Wheeler is the oldest of three sons. He was a member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church. Wheeler attended Victoria High School where he excelled as a star athlete in football and baseball. He went on to earn junior college all-American honors in baseball at Alvin Community College in 1981 when he hit .326. Wheeler concluded his college career at Prairie View, where he led the team with 26 home runs as a junior.
Wheeler took great pride in his health and personal appearance. He could often be found working out at the local gym, lifting weights to maintain his physique. It was there that he met his kindred soul, Derise. True love quickly blossomed and they were wed on December 30, 1999.
At this point, Wheeler took on the final role of his life, which of devoted husband and father. Spending time with his family became paramount, as well as his renewed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Having lived through adversity, a previous bout with cancer and the deaths of his beloved mother and grandfather, Wheeler's faith, and the love and devotion of his family, pulled him through.
Anyone fortunate enough to have met Wheeler was touched by his generosity, strength and beauty of spirit. He enjoyed golf and the love of his family. Wheeler's life should be celebrated as an inspiration to all and especially those who have faced uncertainty and darkness. He chose to live his life joyfully without bitterness. A lesser man would surely have succumbed much sooner. His life is a testament to God's enduring faith and abiding love.
Wheeler leaves behind his wife Derise, children Natasha, Kenard, Mason, Tia and Tyler, and two step-children Emily and R. J. Saenz; brothers Jentri Edwards and William Henderson and his father Wheeler D. Edwards, Sr. and a multitude of loving relatives and friends.
Viewing was at Mount Nebo Baptist Church on Thursday, Aug 8. Services were held at Mount Nebo Baptist Church on Friday, with interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
A video memorial of Wheeler's life was presented Friday evening at the JC Hall.

Fred A. Wendel
Fred Arlen “Freddie” Wendel, 66, of Meyersville, died Thursday, October 24, 2002.
He was born January 18, 1936, in Cuero, to the late Victor George and Regina Kornfuehrer Wendel. He was an heavy equipment operator with Union Carbide for 42 years and a rancher. He was a member of the Independent Cattleman's Association and had served as president for the Meyersville ISD Board. He was a 25-year member of the St. Michael's K of C Council No. 1682 and of the Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department. He was a charter member and First Grand Knight of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church K of C. Council No. 13010. He was a member of the Meyersville Country Club and had served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years.
Survivors: wife, Burma Lee Buschermihle Wendel; daughter, Sharon Foerster of Meyersville; sons, Mark Wendel, Collin Wendel, Alan Wendel and Karl Wendel, all of Meyersville; sister, Patty Thieme of Victoria; brother, Talbert Wendel of Cuero; and 14 grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: parents; and twin granddaughters.
Visitation was held Saturday, October 28 at Freund Funeral Home chapel. A rosary was recited Saturday at the funeral home chapel. Services were Sunday at Sts. Patrice Moore May, 42, of Cuero, died Saturday, October 20, 2002.
She was born December 1, 1959, in Houston, to Jerry Moore Parker of Cuero and the late Glenn R. Moore Sr. She was a salesperson for Rebel Welding of Zapata and was a nurse. She had worked as a waitress at the Doll House Cafe.
Survivors: husband, James W. May; daughter, Patrice Tara Moore Cruz of Rosenberg; step-daughter, Cheyenne May of Weesatche; son, George Moore Cruz III of Rosenberg; step-son, Dustin May of Weesatche; mother; sisters, Kim Orsini of Chicago and Kelly Hranicky of Yorktown; and brothers, Glenn R. More Jr. and Thomas Edward Moore, both of Cuero.

Alice Anna Augusta Mehnert Mayer
Alice Anna Augusta Mehnert Mayer, 93, passed away October 23, 2002.
She was born on a farm near Yorktown on May 5,1909 to Paul and Emma Sasse Mehnert. She married June Mayer on December 6, 1933.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Mary Ester Mehnert Kelch and Mildred Mehnert; brothers, Winfred (Cap) Mehnert and Louis Mehnert; and nephew, Max A. Kelch Jr.
She is survived by niece and nephew, Joyce and Norman Eichhorn of Yorktown; great-nieces, Loys Feldhousen of Cuero, Margaret Krause and Kristine Albrecht, both of Yorktown, and Barbara Jaramillo of Houston; great-nephew, Carl Eichhorn of Cuero; and 11 great-great nephews, Matthew Jaramillo, Mitchell Ahrens, Brian Ahrens, Anthony Ahrens, Ethan Krause, Jonathon Albrecht, Evan Krause, Ryan Eichhorn, Eran Krause, Justin Albrecht, and Travis Eichhorn.

Lawrence L. Keseling
Lawrence L. Keseling, 81, of Cuero, died Tuesday, October 22, 2002.
He was born March 2, 1921, in Cuero, to the late Herman G. and Julia Binz Keseling. He was a cattle rancher and had retired from the dairy business after 50-plus years. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Order of the Sons of Hermann.
Survivors: wife of 51 years, Frances Boldt Keseling; son, Edward Leroy Keseling and wife Melissa Keseling of Cuero; sister, Agnes K. Peebles of Victoria; granddaughter, Emilie Frances Keseling; one niece; and three nephews.
Preceded in death by: parents; sister, Hazel K. Benton; brother, Herman George Keseling Jr.; and two nieces.

George Andrew Glauberg
George Andrew Glauberg born July 28, 1921 in Cuero, Texas went to his pain-free home in heaven on Tuesday, October 22, 2002.
George was a beloved member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was known for the genuine love he had for others. He was truly "his brothers' keeper." He never knew a stranger and helped so many people throughout his life. He started working when he was just 8 years old and managed to work 51 jobs throughout his 81 years. He served his country at Fort Sam Houston during World War II. He retired when he was 52 years old from 35 years as a grocer in Weimar and Schulenburg. He and his wife, Bernice, moved to Victoria in 1987 to be closer to family. He was an avid baseball fan, a dynamic domino player, and known as Gorgeous George for his captivating smile radiating from his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents Olga Marie Hildebrandt Glauberg and George Bert Glauberg and his brother, Melvin Glauberg.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Bernice Brown Glauberg; daughter, Yvonne Guenther and her husband, Frank Guenther of Seguin; daughter, Dianne Mayfield and her husband, Darrell Mayfield of Victoria; grandson, Andrew Joseph Guenther of Dallas; father-in-law, Royal T. Brown of Victoria; sister, Joyce Callendar of Canyon Lake; step-grandson, Darrell Mayfield, Jr. and his wife, Amber Mayfield of Austin; and step-granddaughter, Lori Mayfield of Victoria.
Family visitation was at Rosewood Funeral Chapels on Wednesday, October 23. Funeral services were at Grace Lutheran Church, 605 East Locust, on Thursday, Rev. Jay Simonsen presided. Graveside services followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Honors presented by VFW Post No. 4146.

R. S. “Bo” Shults
R. S. “Bo” Shults, 81, of Fort Worth, died Friday, October 25, 2002.
Robert Stuart “Bo” Shults was born on August 11, 1921 in Cuero to the late Libbie and Thomas Shults. He attended Texas A&M University and served in the U. S. Army as Capt. with the 289th Combat Engineer Battalion in the European Theater during World War II. He remained in Germany as the Military Governor of the City of Karlsruhe for several years before returning to Texas. Mr. Shults spent most of his business career in the oil field supply business in West Texas and Ft. Worth.
He is survived by his wife, Nada Shults of Fort Worth; son, John Shults and wife, Bernadette, of Arlington; daughter, Anne Shults of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Tyler Shults and Elisabeth Shults; sister, Ruth Koenig of Atlanta, Georgia; sister-in-law, Jessie Shults of Cuero; and numerous family and friends.

Roland R. Dieringer
Roland R. Dieringer, 81, of Cuero, died Saturday, October 26, 2002.
He was born March 4, 1921, in DeWitt County to the late Severin and Emilia Fussel Dieringer. He was a retired serviceman for Arkla Gas and a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He served on the church council and was a member of St. Mark's Brotherhood, Cuero Fire Department Auxiliary, the American Legion and Travelers Protective Association. He was an U.S. Army veteran (having served three years) and had worked in the Oil Field and Railroad.
Survivors: wife, Gladys Goehring Dieringer of Cuero; sons, Donald Dieringer of Cuero and Billy Ray Dieringer of Dripping Springs; sister, Melanie Buenger of Cuero; and four grandchildren.

He was born Nov. 17, 1924, in Cuero, to the late August John and Elise Head Phillips.
