Dorothy Mae Barfield
Dorothy Mae Barfield, 77, of San Antonio, passed away May 28, 2003.
She was born March 21, 1926 in Westbrook to the late William and Jewel Clover Spann. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by daughter, Patsy Beldin of San Antonio; brothers, Elbert Spann of Colorado City, Texas, Billy Spann of Manhattan, New York, and Larry Joe Spann of Oregon; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R. D. Barfield; parents; sons, John Daniel Barfield and William David Barfield; sister, Joyce Parr; and brother, Mardell Spann.
Visitation was Friday, May 30 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Saturday at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. Ben Sheeran officiated. Burial was at Hochhiem Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Clark, James Cox, Billy Beldin, and Charles Cox.
Adolph Diedrich "Dutch" Stuermer
Adolph Diedrich "Dutch" Stuermer, 89, died July 28, 2004 in San Angelo.
A graveside service was held Saturday, July 31 at the Nordheim Cemetery, with Pastor Patti Byrne officiating. Arrangements were made by Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Dutch was born Aug. 25, 1914 to Walter C. Stuermer and Louise Janssen Stuermer. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Adolph graduated from Nordheim High School in 1932, and received a M.A. Degree in Architecture from Rice Institute in 1940. He married Annella Stites of Sonora. During World War II he worked in Norfolk, Virginia, constructing Naval Bases and in Detroit, Michigan, manufacturing Quonset buildings. After the war he worked in Houston on several architectural firms until moving to San Angelo, where he owned McRan, Inc., specializing in steel buildings. Mr. Stuermer also served on the committee responsible for obtaining water for San Angelo. "Dutch" raised German short-haired Pointers and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He married Crystal Wiley of Abilene in 1949.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and wife, Crystal Stuermer. In February 2001 he married Laverna Lakey of San Angelo.
Survivors are: wife, Laverna Lakey Stuermer; step-children, Kerry Lakey and Lora Lakey; sister, Inez Klaeveman and husband Ivie of San Antonio; brother-in-law, Leonard Lambert and sons, Len, Mark, and Larry Lambert; nephew, Jim Klaeveman and wife Melody of San Antonio; niece, Jane Beneke and husband Ron of Dallas; three great-nieces; three great nephews; a one great-great-niece; and numerous cousins and friends.

Sam A. Martinez Jr., 65, of Cuero, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004.
He was born June 16, 1939, in Cuero, to Sam Martinez Sr. of Yoakum and the late Isabelle A. Aguillar Martinez. He worked for McGary Lease Services with 27 years of service and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Survivors: wife, Josephine Torres Martinez; son, Tony Martinez of Cuero; sisters, Tommie Cavazos of Tivoli and Angelita Villerreal of Cuero; brothers, Robert A. Martinez of Cuero and David Martinez of Yoakum.
A rosary was recited Wednesday, Aug. 11 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral Mass was held Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, the Rev. Kirby Hlavaty officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Ralph V. Rodriguez
Ralph V. Rodriguez, 65, of Cuero, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004.
He was born April 23, 1939, in Refugio, to the late Juan G. and Damacia Vasquez Rodriguez. He was a maintenance worker and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Survivors: sons, Ralph Rodriguez Jr. and Billy Rodriguez, both of Cuero, and David Rodriguez of Houston; sisters, Janie Salazar of Van Vleck and Lola DeLaRosa and Minnie Vasquez, both of Cuero; brothers, Rudy Rodriguez of Cuero and Daniel Rodriguez of Nebraska; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: parents and brother, Pete Rodriguez.

Homer Ray Wright
Homer Ray Wright, 83, of Cuero, passed away on Aug. 12, 2004.
He was born April 5, 1921 in Nixon to the late Thomas Eugene and Lela Ethredge Wright. Homer worked at the textile mill in Cuero and owned a service station in Weesatche before becoming a self employed welder. He was a member of the Cuero Masonic Lodge 409 AF & AM and St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Oehlke Wright of Cuero; sons and daughters-in-law, Brett and Karen Wright of Falls City and Jamie and Lauren Wright of Cuero; and grandchildren, Megan and Cameron Wright of Falls City and Maxx Wright of Cuero.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dale Ray Wright; sister, Irma Mae McCracken; and brothers, Clinton Wright and Jack Wright.
Visitation was Friday, Aug. 13 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Saturday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Michael Robinson officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery under the direction of Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Matilda Franke Curd
Matilda Franke Curd, 90, of San Antonio, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004.
She was born in Westhoff on Jan. 16, 1914 to the late William and Mary Franke. She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Billingsley of San Antonio; son, William E. Curd of Beatty, Nevada; sister, Clara Franke of Westhoff; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Curd; parents; and brothers, Alfred, Edmond, and Theadore, all formerly of Westhoff.
She was buried in Sabinal on Wednesday, Aug. 11. Services were held at Southside Funeral Chapel in San Antonio on Wednesday as well.
George Holt Carter Jr.
George Holt Carter Jr., 80, of Cuero, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004.
He was born in Justin on Aug. 12, 1924 to the late George H. Sr. and Maude Ragsdale Carter. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was an engineer with Southern Pacific Railroad for 38 years. He was a Methodist.
He is survived by his wife, Clella Rodgers Carter of Cuero; daughters, Brenda Littleton of McAllen, Janice Patton of Dallas, and Jeanine Jennings; son, David Carter of Cuero; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Margaret Jarvis, Edna Burden, and Evelyn Bentley.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug.19 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at Hillside Cemetery, with Rev. Glenn Robertson officiating. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Carmen G. Fernandez, 62, of Cuero, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004.
She was born in Sugarland on Oct. 28, 1941, to the late Claudio and Maria Zuacta Carrillo Gonzales. She had worked for Tex Tan: Cotton Mill and was a weaver for Brentex. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Sylvester Fernandez of Cuero; daughters, Roseanna Varela and Sylvia Munoz, both of Cuero, and Rachel Garcia of Texas City; son, Roger Fernandez of Cuero; sisters, Tomasita Gonzales of Refugio, Margaret Glass of Pasadena, Esmeralda Anzaldua and Mary Kuepher, both of Cuero, and Cecelia Navarro of Yoakum; brothers, Joe Gonzales, Claudio Gonzales Jr., and Jessie Gonzales, all of Cuero; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Sylvester Fernandez Jr.; sisters, Geneva Vargas, Hermina Mascorro, Irene Gonzales, and Beatrice Gonzales; and brother, Antonio Gonzales.
A Rosary was recited Tuesday, Aug. 17 at Freund Funeral Chapel in Cuero. A funeral Mass will be said Wednesday, Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with Rev. Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery.
