Adam Ray Garcia, 34, of Cuero, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000.
He was born June 12, 1966, in Cuero, to the late Pedro and Eloisa Guajardo Garcia of Cuero. He was a general laborer and a Catholic.
Survivors: parents; sisters, Mary Garcia Diaz of Cuero and Susie Vasquez of Yoakum; brothers, John Garcia, Lupe Garcia and David Garcia, all of Cuero.
Preceded in death by: grandparents, Tiburcio and Evarista Bustos Garcia.
A rosary was recited at Freund Funeral Home chapel.
Graveside services were Saturday at San Isidro Cemetery, the Rev. Daniel Giorgi officiating. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, was in charge of arrangements.
Fred Wittwer
Fred Wittwer, 92, of Cuero, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000.
He was born Jan. 20, 1908 in Monroe, Wisc. to the late Carl Wittwer. He worked in the engine room on ships in the Marines.
Survivors: wife, Anna Wittwer; daughter, Laurinda Stuhr of Cuero; sister, Lena Schneider of Tomahawk, Wisc.; and two grandchildren.
Cremation will be arranged by Freund Funeral Home, Cuero.
Gus. R. Turk
Services for Gus R. Turk, 95, of Beeville, and formerly of Yorktown, who died Friday, were held Sunday at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Ray Kraemer officiating.
He was born March 14, 1905, in Cuero, to the late Max and Matilda Boldt Turk. He was a farmer and painter and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He served as director for DeWitt County Electric Co-op, was a member of the Garfield Shooting Club and was a 70-year member of Sons of Hermann.
Survivors: daughter, Janie Podsim of Beeville; brother, Max Turk of Robstown; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: wife, Selma Stratmann Turk; daughter, Dolores Webb; son, Franklin Turk; parents; sisters, Erna Kelch and Tillie Luedicke; brothers, Fred Turk, Ben Turk and George Turk; and two grandchildren.
Burial will be at Westside Cemetery. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers: Mike Turk, David Turk, Buddy Cooper, Craig Cooper, Sam Webb, Turk Webb and Landon Podsim.
Honorary pallbearers: Woodie Wood and Kerry Cathey.

Helen Nelson
Helen Nelson, 80, of Nordheim, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000.
She was born Dec. 1, 1919 in Phoenix, Ariz., to the late Victor and Birdie Graham Owen. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors: husband, Edward C. Nelson Sr., son, Edward C. Nelson Jr. of Nordheim; and brothers, Carl Owen of Houston, George Owen of Amarillo and Donald Owen of Livingston.
Preceded in death by: parents; and sisters, Nora Parks and Edna Bufford.
Visitation was Monday at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home chapel.
Services were Tuesday at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. Edwina Baethge officiating.
Burial was at Nordheim Cemetery.

Joy L. Bastin
Joy LaNell Bastin, 72, of Cuero, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000.
She was born July, 25, 1928 in San Antonio, to the late Roy J. and Clara Groff Bricker. She was a Beauty Operator and a member of American Auxiliary of Cuero; lifetime member of Kerrville VFW Auxiliary and Disabled American Veterans of Kerrville. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors: daughters, Shirley Kast of Lytle, Midge Jackson of Cuero, Judy Jech of Richland, Wash.; step-daughter, Ida Crosby of Houston; step-son, Lloyd Bastin Jr. of Ava, Mo., and 10 grandchildren. Also survived by Patricia Sanderson of San Antonio.
Preceded in death by: husband, Lloyd E. Bastin Sr., and parents.
Memorial services were Monday at Cuero Church of Christ, the Rev. Bill York officiating.

Thomas R. Schuenemann
Thomas Robert Schuenemann, 43, of Wichita, Kan., died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000.
He was born Nov. 27, 1956, in Great Falls, Mont., to Ruth Becker Schuenemann of Yorktown and the late Robert H. Schuenemann. He was a carpenter and a Lutheran.
Survivors: daughters, Valkyrie Michele Schuenemann and Zella Marie Schuenemann, both of Angleton; mother; and one grandchild.
Preceded in death by: father.
Visitation was Monday at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home chapel.
Services were Monday at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. James T. Gooch officiating.
Burial was Tuesday at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, was in charge of arrangements.

Vela Lee Hanson
Vela Lee Hanson, 75, of Stockdale, formerly of Cuero, died November 9, 2000.
She was born January 19, 1925 in Cuero to the late John B. G. and Eula Mary Sledge Hanson. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Stockdale.
She is survived by her sisters, Hazel E. Davis of San Antonio, and Dera Lillian Hoffman of San Antonio; five nieces, five nephews and numerous cousins.
She is preceded in death by: parents; brothers, William Hanson, Glenn Hanson, and Saink Cole.
Services were held Saturday at Finch Funeral Home in Stockdale.
Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Stockdale.
David Mendez
David Mendez, 24, of Westhoff, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000.
He was born Dec. 29, 1975 in Vera Cruz, Mexico, to Jose M. and Esperanza Gutierrez Mendez. He was a plastics packer and a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
Survivors: wife, Doris Lee Pompa; daughter, Doris M. Mendez of Westhoff; son, David A. Mendez of Nixon; parents; sister, Neli Mendez of Yoakum; brothers; Luis Mendez and Javier Mendez, both of Westhoff; and grandparents, Inosencio Gutierrez and Caldina Cordova, both of Vera Cruz, Mexico.

Services were Monday, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church,the Rev. Dominic Antwi-Boasiako officiating.

Finley L. Jackson
Finley Jackson was born September 19, 1914 in DeWitt County, Hochheim Community near Cuero. At a young age Finley's family moved to Refugio. Later Finley moved to San Antonio where he united with West End Baptist Church and worked for Union Pacific Railroad. He was the third of six children born to the union of James and Bertha Johnson Jackson. He attended school at Daule.
Other professions includes Armstrong Transfer Company as a truck driver; VFW as a porter; Augman Clinic as Chief Dietary Chef; ABC Bank (Bank of America) as building superintendent and personal aide to W.M. Noble, CEO of ABC Bank. He retired from the bank after more than 32 years.
Finley and Juanita Stovall were married January 28, 1951. To this union two children were born, Finley L. Jackson Jr. and Anita (Jackson) Jones.
He is survived by his wife,Juanita Jackson; two children Anita M. (Jackson) Jones; and Finley L. Jackson Jr.; a beloved son-in-law Freddie Ray Jones; two grandchildren Brandi and Kristofer Jones; two godsons Maurice Callis and Mitchell Harrison; three god-daughters Joyce Snell, Margaret Vrana Metting, Sandra King Reeves; two sisters Stevanna Herron and Geneva Bussey; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were Monday, Nov. 27, 2000 at Mount Nebo Baptist Church, the Revs. H.L. Snell and Ronald G. Edwards officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rosewood Chapels, Victoria, in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn Ann Corral Southern
Funeral mass for Mrs. Evelyn Ann Corral Southern of Richardson was held Saturday, November 25, 2000 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Richardson. She died November 19, 2000.
Born March 6, 1963 in Long Beach, CA, she was 37. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Richardson.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Southern of Richardson, father and mother-in-law Ed and Billie Southern of Cuero; parents David and Sylvia Paez Corral; daughters, Elizabeth, Kristina and Sarah Southern of Richardson; son Matthew Southern of Richardson; sisters Leona and Sylvia; and brothers, Richard and Ronald.
Rev. David Flori officiated the funeral and burial was in Restland Cemetery under the direction of Sparkman Funeral Home in Richardson.
