Emilie F. Meyer
Emilie F. Meyer of Gonzales, formerly of Cuero, died November 27, 2000 at the age of 92.
A homemaker, she was born November 18, 1908 in DeWitt County. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, The Sons of Herman and Lindenau Rifle Club.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Nov. 28, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Freund Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Byrne officiating. Burial will follow at Lindenau Community Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Emilie Logan of Gonzales; a son, Alton R. Meyer of Millington, TN; sisters Melanie Buenger and Rosie Dieringer of Cuero; and a brother, Roland Dieringer of Cuero.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Oscar C. Meyer; parents Severin and Emilia Fuessel Dieringer; sister, Meta Sturm; and brothers, W.E. Dieringer and Emil Dieringer.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
Elma Joyce Lecon
Elma Joyce Lecon of Cuero died November 19, 2000 at the age of 61. She was born November 20, 1938 in Chandler Arizona. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Ernet Lecon of Cuero; daughter, Tessie McCord of Victoria; step-daughters, Kathy Rodriquez of San Diego, TX, Becky Lecon of Victoria, Lisa Maria Lecon of Victoria; son Billy Peterson of California; sister, Dorothy Barfield of San Antonio; brothers, Billy Spann of Staten Island, NY, Elbert A. Spann of Colorado City, and Larry Joe Spann of Pomona, OR; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William M. and Jewel T. Clover Spann.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arnulfo Hernandez
Arnulfo Hernandez of Yoakum died November 22, 2000 at the age of 58. He was born September 17, 1942 in Canoas S1.P Mexico and was an automobile painter.
Services were held Friday, Nov. 24 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Yoakum with Rev. Gary Janak officiating.
He is survived by daughters, Virginia Amaro, Carolina Hernandez, Teresa Jimenez, Marysol Morales, Cartina Hernandez all of Yoakum; sons, Francisco Hernandez of Houston, Oscar Hernandez of Matamoras, Mexico; sisters, Juana Carillo of Houston, Guadalupe Billanueva of Mexico, Maria Hernandez of Mexico; brothers, Emilio Hernandez of Mexico and Jose Hernandez of Mexico.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Cartina Hernandez; and parents Francisco and Maria Monreal Hernandez.
Pauline (Polly) Burns
Pauline (Polly) Burns, 94, of Cuero died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be Thursday, Nov. 30, 10 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glenn Robertson and Rev. Bob Hairston officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Cuero-DeWitt Community Center or First Baptist Church.
She was born September 18, 1906 in Big Spring to William Menger and Mary Ellen Lewis Menger.
She is survived by a son, Frank W. Burns III of Cuero; sisters Anita Snavely of Harlingen, Mary Glenn of Austin and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank W. Burns, Jr.; sisters, Doris Lloyd and Mary Belle Black; and a brother, Bill Menger.
She was a charter member of Cuero Pilot Club a member of Hawtorne Club, DeWitt County Historical Commission and First Baptist Church.
Temple K. Chaddock
Temple K. Chaddock, 72, of Cuero, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001.
He was born Feb. 28, 1928, in DeWitt County, to the late Temple Henry and May Klokau Chaddock. He was a cattle buyer at Owen Meat Packing Co. in Brownsville and owned the Three Rivers Livestock Auction. He worked as a cattle buyer for numerous packing companies and as a stocker and feed buyer. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Chaddock was an active supporter of Cuero Livestock Show and had participated in the show since his youth.
He served as mission chairman for Jerusalem Baptist Church in Cuero for many years.
Survivors: wife, Julia Martin Chaddock of Cuero; daughters, Becky Leick, and husband Roger, of Houston and Ruth Chaddock of Cuero; son, Mark Chaddock of Cuero; sisters, Evelyn Bennett of Beeville and Hazel Buck of Houston; brothers, Clarence Chaddock of LaPorte and Kyle Chaddock of Richmond; grandchildren, Amy Chaddock of Newport Beach, Calif., and Zachery Martin Leick of Houston.
Preceded in death by: parents; and grandson, John Temple Leick.
Visitation was Saturday at Freund Funeral Home chapel, Cuero.
Services were Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at First Baptist Church of Cuero, with the Revs. Bob Hairston and Glenn Robertson officiating.
Burial was at Hillside Cemetery, Cuero. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers: J.W. Bridges, Terry Smith, Gene Davis, Joe Price, Dr. Raymond R. Reese, Dutton Lane, Chester Wallace and Perry Smith.

Viola G. Haynes
Viola Geffert Haynes, 81, of San Antonio and formerly of Yorktown, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001.
She was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Weesatche, to the late Helmuth J. and Octavia Cravey Geffert. She was a retired bookkeeper at Mitchell Motors in San Antonio, having served for 42 years. She was past matron of the San Antonio Radiant Chapter of the Eastern Star No. 3.
Survivors: sisters, Iola Schlein and Ruby Owens, both of San Antonio; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: son, Billy Louis Thomas; parents; sister, Ruth Dybowski; brothers, Leslie Geffert and Lester B. Geffert.
Visitation was Saturday at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home chapel.
Services were Saturday at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. Will Paul Menn officiating.
Burial was at Westside Cemetery in Yorktown. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, was in charge of arrangements.

Richard Tice
Richard "Larry" Tice, 69, of Cuero, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001.
He was born Nov. 8, 1931, in Waco, to the late James Meddock and Annie Laurie Smiley Tice. He was a retired drilling supervisor at Mobil Oil Company and served with the U.S. Marines in Korea.
Survivors: wife, Mary I. Tice of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughters, Tina Matejek and Tracie Quinterro, both of Las Vegas, Nev., and Rena Dworaczyk of Cuero; sister, Joy Gentry of Las Vegas, Nev.; and six grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: parents; sisters, Margaret Williams and Barbara Sharp; brother, James Tice.
Visitation was Friday at Freund Funeral Home chapel.
Services were Saturday at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. Glenn Robertson officiating.
Burial was at Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, was in charge of arrangements.

Bryan Stubbs Jr.
Bryan Stubbs Jr., 72, of Cuero, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001.
He was born Jan. 11, 1929, in DeWitt County, to the late Bryan and Mary Skrehot Stubbs Sr. He was owner of Stubbs Texaco Station for 10 years and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
He played semi-pro baseball for the Cuero Trotters and Double-A professional baseball in Valley League for the Brownsville Charros from 1949 to 1951. He was a lifetime member of the Rawhide Riders Association and was a member of the Sons of Hermann Lodge. He served in the National Guard.
Survivors: wife, Jo Webb Stubbs; daughters, Val Whites of Arneckeville, Jan Reagan of Leander and Pam Haun of Meyersville; son, Mike Stubbs of Cuero; brother, Walter Bart Stubbs of Cuero; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Friday at Freund Funeral Home chapel.
Services were Saturday at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. Daniel Giorgi officiating.
Burial was at Nelms Cemetery in Concrete. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, was in charge of arrangements.

Verna M. Johnson
Verna M. Johnson, 80, of Cuero, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001.
She was born Aug. 13, 1920, in Cuero, to the late Elvin Sr. and Velma Wright. She was a retired school teacher after 42 years of service.
Survivors: brother, Elvin Wright Jr. of Cuero.
Preceded in death by: sister, Doris Johnson.
Visitation was Tuesday at K.C. McDaniels Funeral Home chapel.
