Doyle G. McBride
ODESSA — Doyle G. McBride, 72, of Odessa, passed away Oct. 18, 2002.
He was born to Roy Lee McBride and Anna Cantwell McBride on Oct. 8, 1930, in Abernathy, Texas. He married Josephine Cotton on February 8, 1952, in Lubbock, Texas, and has lived in and around Odessa for over 40 years.
Mr. McBride was the owner and operator of McBride Trucking for 13 years and was also in the radiator business for 20 years. Doyle was a very respected, down-to-earth man who knew no strangers. His family was his pride and joy, and he loved them very much.
Mr. McBride was preceded in death by his father, Roy Lee McBride; his mother, Anna Cantwell McBride; his son, David Ray McBride; and nine brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine McBride of Odessa; his sons, Michael McBride and wife Anna of Odessa and Russell McBride and wife Reba of Odessa; his daughters, Bobbie Dirden and husband Richard of Odessa, Mary Stewart of Midland and Barney Smith of Odessa; brother, Bill McBride of Odessa; sister, Dorothy Skidmore of Roanoke, Texas; eight grandsons and four granddaughters; and 1 great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Mike Bartlett of Greenfield Acres Baptist Church will be officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice House or to Home Hospice.

Floyd A. ‘Pop’ Hale
ODESSA — Floyd Alexander “Pop” Hale, 80, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at the State Veterans Home in Big Spring.
He was born June 15, 1922, in Cleburne, Texas. He moved to Odessa in 1946 from Hermleigh, Texas. He worked for the Odessa Fire Department from December of 1949 to August of 1982, and retired as a Captain. He was an integral part of many changes of the Odessa Fire Department over that span of time. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a M.P. at the Battle of Bastogne. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and a charter member of Northside Baptist Church.
He loved his family and grandchildren and was a very loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie Ruth Hale; and brothers, Claude and Denfer Hale.
He is survived by his son, Buddy Floyd Hale of Odessa; daughters, Margie Horn of Colleyville, Texas and Brenda Caskey of Odessa; brothers, Elvin Hale of Socorro, N.M., and Gilley Hale of Las Cruces, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at the Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Family will meet with friends at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
Pallbearers will be Alex Hale, Eric Field, Brian Field, Bryan Lauterbach, Klenton Caskey and Vance Caskey.
Family requests memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 707 Jefferson, Odessa, TX, 79761, or the Odessa Fire Department, P.O. Box 4398, Odessa, TX, 79760.

Billie Jean Wilkins
CRANE — Billie Jean Wilkins of Odessa died on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at the Odessa Hospice House.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel in Crane with Dr. Lonnie Hayter officiating.
Mrs. Wilkins was born March 3 in Wall, Texas, to William Earl and Myrtle Williams. She married Ray Wilkins on May 22, 1948. She was a hairstylist and owned and operated the Country Cottage Hair Salon and loved and appreciated her customers and their families. She had lived in Odessa all her life and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Wilkins of Odessa; her children, Tommy Wilkins and his wife Janeen of Midland, Bill Wilkins of Odessa and Bonnie Blount and her Husband Eldon Jr. of Odessa; two sisters, Earlene Shaver and her husband Rayford of Monahans and Velma Williams of Abilene; her grandchildren, James Bracken and wife Tracie, Steven Bracken and wife Amy, Wendy Wilkins, Emily King and husband Kerry and David Blount; and three great-grandchildren, Brittany, Chris and Taylor and a baby expected in April.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, TX, 79761.

Lydia ‘Mae’ Mason
CRANE — Lydia “Mae” Mason, 88, of Crane, died on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, in Odessa at the Lois Owen Retirement Home.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 2, 2002, at Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Kruger officiating.
Burial will be in the Crane County cemetery. Services are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mason was born on Oct. 9, 1914, in Juno, Texas. She married Roy E. Mason on July 2, 1930, in Sanderson, Texas. She and her husband ranched in Terrell and Upton Counties before moving to Crane. She went to work at Crane Memorial Hospital and worked there for 37 years before her retirement.
She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, two sisters and one son.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Fly of Odessa; her son, R.E. Mason and wife Evelyn of Crane; a brother, Ross Stavley and his wife Pehlam Rose of Sanderson; six grandchildren, Vicki Lauderback of Crane, Patti and Steve Hedges of Big Spring, Maxie and Rose Fly of Odessa, Jeff and Penny Mason of Katy, Bobby and Annette Mason of Andrews and Becky and Johnny Haynes of Farmington, N.M.; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Richmond B. (Mitch) Mitchell
ODESSA — Richmond B. (Mitch) Mitchell, 88, of Cleburne, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at Town Hall Estates Retirement Center in Keene, Texas.
He was born Sept. 8, 1914, in Deep Creek, Texas, near Albany, Texas. Mr. Mitchell was raised and educated in Albany, Texas. He enlisted in the Army. Mitch was First Lieutenant in the Army during World War II, where he received numerous medals and awards and was in the Army Medical Corp. He later met and fell in love with Pauline Searcy. They were married 33 years and resided in Odessa.
He moved to Odessa, Texas, in the early 1950s, where he worked in the oilfield for over 45 years. He was a tool pusher and drilling consultant for companies which include Clay Newell with Big West Drilling, Cactus Drilling and Gene Sledge Drilling, just to name a few. Mitch thought the world of Gene Sledge whom he retired with and also Clay Newell, who he named his son Clay (Randy) Mitchell after. Although being in the oilfield and away from home a lot, he always made sure Pauline and the kids had anything they ever wanted or needed. His children and the oilfield were the joys of his life. Mitch was a very proud and strong man who never asked anyone for anything he could not get for himself or his family. He was a very unselfish man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, O.I. Mitchell and Georgia (Anderson) Mitchell; his wife, Pauline Mitchell on Feb. 10, 1990, where he was by her side throughout a long illness until she passed on; two brothers, Buster and Bob; and four sisters, Audie, Bitty, Delores and Gertrude.
He is survived by his two children, Clay (Randy) Mitchell and Paula (Sandy) Martell; three grandchildren, Tera Nicole Mitchell, Michael Dale McDonald and Brittney Marie Mitchell; three step-grandchildren, Joshua Aaron Cofer, Ami Janae Cofer and Jonah Nathaniel Cofer. He has numerous nieces and nephews in the Odessa and Albany area whom all knew him and remember him as Uncle Pick.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Memorial Services, 404 N. Washington Ave. in Odessa, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Memorial Services Chapel with Brother Wayne Shelton officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services are entrusted to Memorial Services.

Maggie Ruth Baiza
ODESSA — Maggie Ruth Baiza was born in Rosebud, Texas, on Dec. 11, 1934, to the late Booker T Barfield and Ruby Cooper Barfield. She was educated in the Rosebud School District where she received her high school diploma. After four years as a clerk with the Attorney General’s office, she retired prior to her demise.
She was a member of the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church. Where she served faithfully as a member of the SWAT Ministry, Greeters Ministry, “Golden Girls” Kitchen Ministry and the Mission Ministry. She loved her family, pastor, church family, co-workers and everyone she encountered uncondtionally.
She departed her earthly home on Friday, Nov. 1, 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Barfield; a son, Billy Rae Gordon; sister, Doris Duke; and nephews, Tommy Moore and Clarence Wesley.
She is survived by her son, Booker T. Dixon and wife Kattie of Odessa; daughter, Jessie Mae Medlock of Odessa; five grandchildren, Terry Lynne Medlock, Jasmine Dixon, Ashely Hutchins, Dechelle Duffy and Dominic Lamar Dixon, all of Odessa; and two godchildren, Quention Robinson and Tekie Robinson, both of Odessa.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church by the Rev. J.W. Hanson, who is the pastor and officiant. Interment will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Manuel Carrasco Baeza
ODESSA — Manuel Carrasco Baeza, 58 years of age, passed away on Nov. 2, 2002, in Lubbock. He was born on April 22, 1944, in Pilares, Mexico, to Martin and Cesaria Baeza.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Baeza of Odessa; son, Manuel Baeza Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of La Porte, Texas; daughters; Roxanne Baeza and husband Earl Sneed of Lewisville, Texas, Rosa Linda Baeza and Melissa Kay Baeza, both of Humble, Texas, Shaya Gobert and husband Matthew of Kingwood, Texas, and Angela Denise Baeza of Odessa; brothers; Domingo Baeza of Slaton, Texas, Jacinto Baeza of Esmeralda, Mexico, Anastacio Baeza of Stanton, Texas, Miguel Baeza of Bloomington, N.M., and Martin Baeza of Aztec, N.M.; sisters, Margarita Gomez of Midland, Maria Barragan of Odessa and Paula Nunez of Midland, grandchildren; Kendrick, Broderick and Lilah Sneed, Judas, Jonathan, and Jacqui Chavez, Sarah Arriola, Amanda, Isaiah, Janell, Calderon and Stephany Ortega, Matthew Gobert and Emily Margarite Baeza.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Domingo Baeza, Jacinto Baeza, David Baeza, Miguel Baeza, Martin Baeza and Kenneth Barragan.
Services by Odessa Funeral Home.

Clifton N. Word Sr.
ODESSA — Clifton N. Word Sr., 87, passed away on Oct. 20, 2002.
He was born June 18, 1915, in Ennis, Texas, to James H. and Lula B. Word. He was the youngest of nine children; all have preceded him in death.
Mr. Word started a printing career as a high school junior in Big Lake, Texas, in 1931. He spent 46 years in the printing business. He met Johnnie Taylor in 1936 and married in December of 1937 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He moved to Fort Stockton, Texas, in 1938 and lived there until 1953 while working on The Fort Stockton Pioneer newspaper. He entered the Army from Fort Stockton and served from 1943 to 1946. He was sent to Aberdeen Proving Grounds where he was trained as a small arms technician. He then spent one year in France and Germany servicing military units up and down the Rhine River.
The Word family moved to Odessa in 1953 and owned and operated Odessa Printing until they retired in 1976. Clifton and Johnnie were married for over 62 years, and had one son, Clifton N. Word Jr., born in 1947, who preceded him in death in 1993. Johnnie preceded him in death in March of 2000.
Numerous nieces and nephews survive him.

James (J.B.) Copeland
ODESSA — James (J.B.) Copeland, 81 years of age, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in Odessa, surrounded by his family.
He was born May 6, 1921, in Chickasha, Okla., and grew up in Iraan, Texas, graduating from Iraan High School in 1939. He attended Texas A&M until 1942, when he was called to duty with the U.S. Navy as a Seabee in World War II.
He was in the oil field business for many years in the Permian Basin. In retirement he managed the Octillo Apartments in Midland. As a long-time member of Odessa Country Club, playing golf, cards and dominoes with his many friends were his favorite pastimes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harris and Winnie Copeland; and his brother, Curtis E. Copeland.
He is survived by his daughters, Karen Frazier and fiancé Dick Perry of Austin, Kathy Stokes and husband Bobby Stokes of Odessa and Karla McIntosh and husband T McIntosh of Odessa; grandchildren, James Frazier and Misty Frazier, both of Austin, Chad Brannon, Josh Brannon, Bailey McIntosh, Misty Scott and Callee Stokes, all of Odessa, and Ben McIntosh of Annapolis, Md.; great-grandchildren, Justin Woods of Austin and Travis Scott of Odessa; and sister-in-law, Joyce Copeland of Sun City, Ariz.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord with the Rev. James Otterness and the Rev. Chris Connors officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Ted Roden, Jack Tidwell, Ace Barnes, Paul Campbell, Ronald Crain, Don Ormand and C.H. Martin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
“Cope” was loved by all who knew him and will be missed by all.

Jack Alton Everett
HUTTO — Jack Alton Everett died early Friday morning, Oct. 4, 2002, in a one-car accident on North FM 160 near Jonah. He was 21 years old. Services were held Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor with burial at Burnet City cemetery in Burnet.
Jack was a 1999 graduate of Hutto High School, where he was a member of the varsity baseball team. He was a member of the Hutto Baptist Church. Survivors include his parents, Don and Sandy Everett of Hutto; maternal grandparents, Jay and Novelean Plummer of Odessa; paternal grandfather, Alton Gilbert Everett of Burnet. His brothers were his best friends. They are, twin Jay Walter Everett of Waco, Josh Everett and wife Stacy (nephew, Mason Alexander) of Tomball and brother of the heart, Ryan Cavo of Taylor. Aunts and uncles include: Jamie Plummer Worley and husband Ron of Katy, Nelda Everett of San Antonio, Joe Everett of Burnett and Ted Everett and Ann Carpenter of Perth, Australia. There are many more great-aunts and uncles, as well as cousins and close friends.
The services were led by Kirk Kay of Hutto Baptist Church. Kirk observed that Jack had a large, giving and loving heart. He was an outgoing person who loved life and having fun. He would want to be remembered for the good times and what his mistakes could teach others.

Dorothy Irene Harrison
ODESSA — Dorothy Irene Harrison, age 76, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born July 5, 1926, in Kirk, Yuma County, Colorado to Cloyd Earl and Bernice Irene Porter Laughlin.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Bethany Christian Church, with Rev. Robert Scofield and Rev. George Randall officiating.
She married James Cecil Harrison Sr. on April 13, 1950, in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. She was a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She taught Sunday School and was the church organist. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and Den Leader Trainer.
She was preceded in death by two infant children, Harry Martin and Dawn, her parents, one sister and three brothers.
She is survived by her husband, James C. (Jim) Harrison, Sr. of Odessa, her two sons, James Cecil Harrison Jr. & Timothy Earl Harrison, both of Odessa, her two daughters, Theresa Maine Smith of Odessa and Rev. Ola Irene (Cricket) Harrison of Lexington, Kentucky, her brother Cloyd Orrin Laughlin of Great Bend, Kansas, her sister, Marjorie Lois Laughlin Scott of Mountain Home, Arkansas and her six grandchildren and one great grand daughter.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch Land Acquisition Fund.
Funeral services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
