Marjorie Montilla
CHULA VISTA, Calif. — Marjorie Montilla passed away on Oct 26, 2002. She lived an adventurous and active 89 years.
Margie left her home in Buffalo, N.Y. at 15, joining a fair to become part of a high-flying acrobatic team called “Maids of the Air.” Preferring terra firma, she later toured with a vaudeville troupe as a dancer/singer. Eventually, she and her husband “Tito” opened a ballroom dance studio, the “Montilla Studio of Ballroom Dancing” in Odessa. Thousands of high school students and hundreds of adults learned dancing and the social graces during the 20 plus years that the Ballroom Studio was open during the 1950s through the middle 1970s.
Margie and Tito held classes in Odessa, Midland, Kermit, Ft Stockton, Pecos, Big Springs, Lubbock and Hobbs, N.M. Margie was the business end of the team, and together they successfully taught throughout West Texas and as far away as New York City.
In retirement since 1976, they settled in San Diego and Margie organized a popular senior citizens group called the “Comedy Makers.” They performed pantomime routines for 20 plus years and brought laughter and fun to mostly senior audiences.
She is greatly missed by “Tito” her husband of 71 years, her son Rick, and daughter Melanie and their families.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at at Palace Gardens Mobile Home Park in Chula Vista, Calif.
Richard Wayne Owens
Richard Wayne Owens, 44, passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at Hospice House of Odessa.
He was born January 15, 1958, to Weldon Owens and Louise Herring in Odessa, Texas. He married
Debbie Daniels on Aug. 6, 1976, in Odessa, Texas. Mr. Owens was a life-long resident of Odessa. He attended Odessa High School, worked for Champion Technology since 1985 as a shift foreman and was a member of the Sunset Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his father Weldon “Bill” Owens.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Owens; son, Justin Wayne Owens and wife Sheila of Odessa, Texas.; daughter, Kara Dawn Owens of Odessa, Texas; mother, Louise Brasuell of Odessa, Texas; and brother, Willy Owens and wife Angela of Odessa, Texas.
Pallbearers are Russell Takeda, Eddie Gutierrez, Richard Campbell, Terry McCarry, Butch Mungia and Johnny Choat.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Watkins officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Rebecca Ray Sewell
ODESSA — Rebecca Ray Sewell, infant, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002. She was born on Oct. 3, 2002, to Bobby and Stacey Sewell in Odessa, Texas.
She is survived by her parents, Bobby and Stacey Sewell of Odessa, Texas; sister, Lacy Sewell of Odessa, Texas; paternal “Nanney,” Darlene and Jerry Kimbrough of Odessa, Texas; maternal grandmother, “Mimi” Gwen Carman of Odessa, Texas; maternal grandma, “Nanney” Judy Carman of Odessa, Texas; paternal grandma, Estelle Harmon of Altasi, Ark.; aunts and uncles, Christy and Gene Wooten of Odessa, Texas, Dusty and Priscilla Sewell of Odessa, Texas, Alicia Carman of Odessa, Texas and Victoria Carman of Odessa, Texas; great-aunts and uncle, Ann and Steve McDonald of Odessa, Texas and Susie Herron; cousins, Christopher Wooten, Michael Wooten, Jonathan Wooten and Amber Sewell, all of Odessa, Texas.; second cousins, Ricky Medrano and Alexandra Medrano, both of Odessa, Texas, and Josh Herron of Wellington, Colo.

Aridai Gabaldon Ortega
Aridai Gabaldon Ortega, 3-months-old, of Odessa, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born Aug. 5, 2002 in Odessa to Rodolfo Ortega and Nereyda Gabaldon.
She was preceded in death by brother, Rodolfo “Rudy” Ortega; and grandfather, Genaro Ortega.
Survivors are her parents, Rodolfo Ortega and Nereyda Gabaldon of Odessa; three brothers; Adrian Gabaldon and Auden Gabaldon, both of Odessa, and Bruce Ortega of Chihuahua, Mexico; two sisters, Diana Ortega of Dallas and Laura Ortega of Monterey, Nuevo Leon; grandparents, Eladio and Maria Gabaldon of Odessa,and Maria Ortega of Odessa; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002 with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill babyland cemetery.

Kathleen Johnson
ODESSA — Kathleen Johnson, 79, of Odessa died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at her residence. She was born July 3, 1923, in Lea County, Va., to John and Rena Coffman. She married
Dudley Johnson Jr. pm July 16, 1955, in Lovington, N.M. They moved to Odessa in 1955.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, in the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will follow at Ector County cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Johnson Jr., her parents, five sisters, and three brothers.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church and had worked for TG&Y Family Store as a salesclerk.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Case, John Addington, Lance White, Ross White, Jim White and Tate Smith.
She is survived by her daughters, Janis Smith and husband Kelton, and Detra White and husband Jack, all of Odessa; grandsons, Lance White, Ross White, Tate Smith and Skyler Smith, all of Odessa; granddaughter, Rachel White of Odessa; sister-in-law, Joyce Green and husband Rick of Tulsa, Okla. brother-in-law, Cleo Johnson and wife Wanda of Durant, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bobby Lee
MONAHANS — Bobby Lee, 69, of Monahans passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, in Midland. He was born December 25, 1932, in Smackover, Ark., to Robert and Floy Lee.
He was a retired operator for the Chevron Gas Plant in Cabirda, West Africa. Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wickett.
Some of Bob’s many activities and memberships included; 32nd Degree Mason, Past Master Mason, former Mayor of Wickett, former teacher, member of the Red Cross Disaster Team, Scottish Rite, honorary volunteer at West Texas State School, delivered Meals on Wheels, former City Judge of Wickett, CPR instructor and he taught Drug and Alcohol Awareness to children.
Bob is survived by his wife, Derlene Lee of Monahans; son, Rob Lee and wife Jennifer of Terre Haute, Ind.; grandson, Noah Lee of Terre Haute, Ind.; and sister, Maxine Berry of Longview. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Clyde Lee, and sister, Jackie Pitre.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at the First Baptist Church of Wickett. Dr. Allie Balko will officiate. Burial will be in the Monahans Memorial cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation or any other children’s foundation.
Services are under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home of Monahans.
Robert ‘Robbie’ Kent Martin
ALPINE — Robbie Martin, 27, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002. He died at his residence.
Although his life ended too soon, he is remembered by his loved ones for his tender compassionate heart and his impeccable manners. He was born in Portales, N.M., and graduated from Permian High School in Odessa. He moved to Alpine in 1997 with his family.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Abe and Rebecca Martin. He is survived by his parents, Kent and Wynann Martin of Alpine; three sisters, Kim Daniel of Odessa, and Kerry Martin and Kelly Springfield, both of Alpine; grandparents, Harry and Ruth Pesnell of Victoria; one nephew, Heath Daniel of Odessa; three nieces, Hannah Daniel of Odessa, and Sloan and Sadie Springfield, both of Alpine; and numerous aunts uncles and cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elm Grove cemetery in Alpine. Arrangements by Geeslin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Rock Youth Center at First Assembly of God in Alpine.
Robbie is a testament of what it means to be blessed. He loved and was loved. Growing up in the mission field, he watched his parents win others for the Lord and when it came time, he dedicated his life to Jesus. He is in heaven now because of that decision. He lost his battle with the struggles of life, but the world is behind him now and he knows the great forgiveness we all hope to know when our time comes.
“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:55-57.
Leona Seibold
ODESSA — Leona Bell Fulkersin Crain Seibold, 92, of Odessa passed away at Hospice House Friday, Nov. 8, 2002.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Monday at Mount Hope cemetery in Watonga, Okla. Leona had lived in Fay, Okla., for over 25 years before moving to Sherwood Place in Odessa in 1999. She was born Leona Bell Fulkersin on July 23, 1910, in Hitchcock, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her son, LaDon Everett Crain; a daughter, Fleta Idee Van de Sandt; her husbands, Marvin C. Crain and Lewis Seibold; and two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her step-son, Donald Seibold of Choctaw, Okla.; a sister, Joyce Ann Morgan of Hinton, Okla.; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Crain of Odessa; six grandchildren, Gail Crain Pickett of Round Rock, Ron Van de Sandt of Xenia, Ohio, Larry Crain and Jerry Crain, both of Odessa; Michael Van de Sandt of Meade, Colo., and Janet Stump of Georgetown; two step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Jerry Swindall
MENARD — Jerry Swindall, 60, of Odessa, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at his residence. He was born April 16, 1942, in Menard to Owen and Avis Swindall.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Avis. He is survived by his father, Owen Swindall of Bells; two brothers, Jackie James Swindall and Scotty Don Swindall, both of Odessa; five nieces; two nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
He had been a local business owner for many years before his health deteriorated, and had always been an avid Mojo supporter and fan. He was a past director of the Permian Booster Club.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at the Resthaven cemetery in Menard.

Carl Alton Wilson
ODESSA — Carl Alton Wilson passed away at Medical Center Hospital after a short illness on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Craig De Armond officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Carl began his life on March 28, 1930, in Wink, Texas. He was born to Rosie Sandlin and Tom Wilson. Carl married
Billie Jean Martin on Dec. 18, 1949. He broke horses as a teenager, and became a master carpenter in his twenties. He then moved to the oilfield of the Permian Basin, Louisiana, and the High Sky County around Abilene, Texas. In the early 1980s, he owned and operated C&M Tool Co. in Odessa, Texas, retiring in 1990. After retirement he helped many people start small businesses and gave freely to those in need. Carl loved golf and fishing and was very good at both. Carl gave his life to Jesus Christ in 1984 and loved and lived life to the fullest.
He is survived by his daughter, Billie Carlene Matheny-Spisak and husband William S. Spisak of Odessa, Texas; son, Michael E. Wilson and wife Sue Ann Wilson of Odessa, Texas; brother, Truman F. Wilson of Odessa, Texas; sister, Dot Jackson; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jean; two brothers, Tommy Wilson Jr. and Everett J. Wilson; and sister, Bonnie Marie Walters.
