Walter G. “Dub” Presley
ODESSA — Walter G. “Dub” Presley died November 6, 2002. He was born September 4, 1919, in Kemp. Dub enjoyed 83 wonderful years, 53 of them with his loving wife, Jane who died three years ago. They are again together in heaven.
Dub, with his brother Pres, ran Presley Appliance and TV Repair in Odessa. He served in WWII in the 101st Airborne Division, Co I, 502 PIR and fought bravely on D-Day in Normandy, in Operation Market Garden in Holland, and in the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne.
He is remembered by his family for his gentleness, his love, his strength, and his hard work. Also, preceding him in death are his parents; Bessie L. and William D. Presley, and brothers; Wilson, Horace (Pres), and Floy (Mink).
He is survived by his children Lynn Dammann and Ken Presley with wife Leanne; his grandchildren Sara, Andrew, Everett, and Ethan, and his sister-in-law who he loved as a sister, Dorothy Presley, many others will remember him fondly.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Dinneen officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Helen H. Norwood Riggs
MIDLAND — Helen H. Norwood Riggs died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Deering Nursing Home. Mrs. Norwood was born June 1, 1911, in Magazine, Ark., to father James Henry Holland and mother Pearl Maybarker who both preceded her in death. Mrs. Norwood was 91 years.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Resthaven cemetery in Midland with Pastor Eddie G. Humphries officiating. Mrs. Helen H. Norwood was the Director of Operation Blessing for four years. She was a member of Odessa Gospel Lighthouse Church and her husband Darrell served as guester at the door. You could not get past the door without one of her hugs. Her life toughed many over the years.
Survivors include her husband, Darrell Riggs of Odessa; a niece, Patsy Bodine of San Marcos; and a whole host of sons, daughters and grandchildren as she adopted in her heart as her own.
Memorial Services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Gospel Lighthouse Church at 4800 N.E. Loop 338 in Odessa.

Woodrow Freeman
ODESSA — Woodrow Freeman, 90-years-old, of Odessa, died Dec. 6, 2002, at the Home Hospice House in Odessa.
He was born March 21, 1912, in Grossbeck, Texas, to James and Phoebe Freeman. He married
Lota I. McAnally on Dec. 2, 1933, in Loraine Texas.
He was a faithful member of Faith Community Baptist Church up until his illness, and he retired as a Rig Mechanic for Harlow Simmons after 21 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his time around his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Melvin A. Freeman and Dale C. Freeman; parents, James and Phoebe Freeman; two brothers; and five sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Lota Freeman of Odessa; two sons, Derwood Freeman and wife Berne of Odessa and Michael Freeman and wife Charolette of Odessa; one daughter, Beverly Blackburn and husband Bill of Odessa; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The family plans to visit with friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Faith Community Baptist Church, 9902 W. University Blvd., with the Rev. Wayne Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Jerry B. Null
ODESSA — Jerry B. Null, 68, of Odessa, died Dec. 6, 2002, at her residence in Odessa.
She was born April 7, 1934, in Wallace, Ark. She came to Odessa in the late 1940s. She married
James L. Null on Feb. 29, 1952, in Carlsbad, N.M. She was the owner of the Book Nook from 1975 to 1998. She spent a lot of time with her children and was loving mother, wife and friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Null; and her parents, Freeman W. Bailey and Ruby Ollinger.
She is survived by sister, Norma Jene Reese and husband Billy of Nash, Texas; sons, James Null and wife H.K. of Odessa and David Alan and wife Celena of Houston; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Her family would like to express their utmost gratitude to Home Hospice for their loving care.

Apolinar ‘Polo’ Del Angel
ODESSA — Apolinar “Polo” Del Angel, 41, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002.
He was born to Juan Del Angel and Felicitas Balderas on Jan. 8, 1961, in Congregacion Anahuac Veracrus, Mexico. At an early age he moved with his family to Dallas, where he was raised and educated.
Polo was a truck driver most of his life. He currently owned and operated A&A Trucking Co. of Odessa.
He moved to Odessa in 1991. He met and later married
Armida Acosta in 1991. He achieved his goals in life and worked hard for his family and business. Polo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and businessman. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Juan Del Angel; and his brother, Victor Del Angel.
He is survived by his mother, Felicitas Del Angel of Irving; wife, Armida Acosta Del Angel of Odessa; four sons, Robert Del Angel and David Del Angel, both of Bridgeport, Christian Del Angel and Humberto Paredes, both of Odessa; two daughters, Jannette Paredes and Stacy Acosta, both of Odessa; seven brothers, Angel Del Angel, Sostenes Del Angel and Alejandro Del Angel, all of Tampico, Ignacio Del Angel, Gregorio Del Angel and Pascual Del Angel, all of Bridgeport and Marcos Del Angel of Houston; four sisters, Delia Pensado and Gudelia Centurion, both of Irving, and Raquel Morales and Marcelina Del Angel, both of Tam; two grandchildren; and numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 24 hours on Sunday.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at Chapa Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Frank Chavez officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill cemetery.

Ila Faye Smethers Calhoun
ODESSA — Ila Faye Smethers Calhoun, 63, departed this earth peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at home with her loved ones at her bedside during a family prayer. For the past 19 months, she fought a very courageous battle against lung cancer.
She was born on Jan. 26, 1939, in Olden, Texas, to parents, Verna and Jewell Smethers.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Hubbard- Kelly Chapel with the Rev. Gordon Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was Baptist.
She graduated as valedictorian with the Class of 1957 from Dawson High School in Welch, Texas.
She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. with 30 years of service in 1992. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She married
Gene on Oct. 21, 1977, in Odessa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Lloyd Smethers, Elvis Smethers, Johnnie “Dub” Smethers and Don Smethers; two sisters, Vie Mae Moore and Frances Phillips. May they rest in peace forever.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Gene Calhoun of Odessa; two daughters, Debi (Thomas) Grigsby and husband Mark of Irving and Denise Beard of Odessa; three stepchildren, Dianna Cox and husband R.C. of Garland, Paul Calhoun of Dallas and Dorothy Calhoun of Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Monica McCain of Waco, Chris Grigsby of Connecticut, Angela Pacheco of Odessa, Dustin Beard of Midland and Genevieve Calhoun of Oklahoma; three great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Dakota McCain of Waco and Alissa Mata of Odessa; one brother, Joe Smethers of Las Cruces, N.M.; two sisters, Nina Stouth of Wickett and Ena Gartman of Odessa; one aunt, Eunice Anderson of Abilene; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pauline White (Day) Foss
ARIZONA CITY, Ariz. — Pauline White (Day) Foss, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, left this world in the early a.m. hours of Nov. 26, 2002, in El Paso, Texas.
Pauline was born on April 15, 1925, to Lester Leroy and Hazel (White) Day in Flaxville, Mont.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at Simes Mortuaries Casa Grande Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ralph Scott officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at the National Memorial cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
Pauline grew up in a loving family that nurtured strong family values, integrity and strength of character. The Day Ranch in Daniels County, Mont. was a large working ranch and remains intact today. Her stories of her childhood were favorites of her children.
Pauline married
Clarence Foss on Nov. 24, 1949. They were blessed with two children, Cheryl and Dale. During the early years of their marriage, they moved many times following the “work”. In 1959, they moved to Anchorage, Alaska. They remained there until retiring in 1988.
Pauline provided her family with a warm wonderful caring environment. She was loved by family and friends. She was known for her warmth and kindness.
Pauline is survived by her husband, Clarence P. Foss of Arizona City, Ariz.; a daughter, Cheryl Roberts and husband Ronald of Rankin; a son, Dale Foss and wife Marietta of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Wiona Browning of Scobey, Mont.; a brother, Lester “Bud” Day of Bonners Ferry, Idaho.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends in several states.

Betty L. White
ODESSA — Betty L. White, age 77, of Odessa, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Hospice House. She was born March 10, 1925, to Jonas and Emma Jones.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at First United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. J.T. Pugh and Terry Pugh officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill cemetery.
Betty was the youngest of 10 children. She married
Lester Shaw in 1938, they had three children. He preceded her in death. She later married
Ray White in 1961; he also preceded her in death. She moved to Odessa in 1967 and was a practical nurse most of her life. She spent her remaining years in Odessa enjoying her family and friends. She was a member of first United Pentecostal Church. She loved family, God, Church family and many friends. She loved helping people and working in her flower gardens.
She was preceded in death by sons, Tommy and Alford Shaw; grandson, Wesley Shaw; one great-grandson; brothers, Lee, Paul, David and Daniel Jones; sisters, Alice Pack, Mary Saulters and Lorena Moss.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Charles Hunt; grandchildren, Terry Hunt, Harlley and LaDon Hunt, Tonya Hunt, Alford and Cindi Shaw and Cindy Shaw; great-grandchildren, Troy and Connie Hunt, Terrell and Marquita Hunt, Teddy and Kati Hunt, Meleah and Mark Pocock, Brandi Midaugh, Dillon Shaw and Ronnie Shaw; great-great-grandchildren, Troy Hunt, Mavery Pocock, Zachery Hunt, Billy Joe Anderson; sisters, Lottie Diamond of Malakoff, Ernistine King of Athens; and many nieces and nephews.
