Esther Ramirez Salinas
ODESSA — Esther R. Salinas, a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went to be with the Lord. She will always be remembered as a loving and kind friend to all.
Esther Ramirez Salinas, 81, passed away Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born June 21, 1921.
She married
Gregorio Y. Salinas on March 30, 1957, in Sonora, later moving to Odessa in 1974. She was a homemaker, and a member of Iglesia Bautista Jerusalem Church.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with Edward Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gregorio Salinas; and her son, Raymond Salinas.
Survivors include one son, Gregg Salinas and wife Marie of Odessa; two daughters, Cris Jacquez and husband Pete of Odessa and Sandra Aguayo and husband Rudy of San Angelo; 12 grandchildren, Valerie A. Hipolito and husband Edward, Greg A., Raymond P., Yvonne M., David M., Joshua and Jeremie Salinas, Jessica R. and Jacob D. Aguayo, Jared M., Eric K. and Stephen R. Jacquez; and two great-grandchildren, Edward I. and Patricia I. Hipolito.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Vincente Esparza Jr.
ODESSA — Vincente Esparza Jr., 64, a retired self-employed brick mason, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Hospice House Facility in Odessa.
Mr. Esparza Jr. lived in Odessa for 10 years and was previously from Austin where he lived for 30 years. While residing in Austin, he indulged in his favorite hobby, “fishing.”
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ramona Torres-Esparza of Odessa; sons, Larry Esparza and Gabriel Esparza, both of Odessa; daughter, Yvonne Esparza of Austin; sister, Jesuita Lujan of Odessa; brother, Richard Esparza of Odessa; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vincente Esparza Sr.; and his mother, Apolino Espino-Esparza.
He was born Feb. 4, 1938, in San Angelo, Texas, the son of Vincente and Apolino (Espino) Esparza Sr.
Visitation will be from 1 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday at Martinez Funeral Home. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at the Ector cemetery in Odessa.
John Cooper Gillen
ODESSA — John Cooper Gillen, 63, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Oct. 31, 1939, in Natchez, Miss. He married
Jean Anne Horn on April 22, 1961, in Natchez.
Mr. Gillen was a member of the National Guard from 1958 to 1964. He moved to Odessa in 1975. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was store manager for Bovaird Supply Company for several years.
He is preceded in death by a son, Joseph Christopher Gillen.
He is survived by wife, Jean Gillen of Odessa; sons, John C. Gillen Jr. of Odessa, Charles E. Gillen of Houston and Richard A. Gillen of Odessa; and daughter, Deborah K. Gillen of Odessa.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Rose Hill cemetery with the Rev. Steve Trout officiating. The family will receive friends at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Melvin C. Steele
ODESSA — Melvin C. Steele, 88, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. He was born April 16, 1914, in Moline, Mills County, Texas.
Mr. Steele was a U.S. Army veteran. He moved to Odessa in 1947. He was a retired carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice, parents, Austin and Amber Steele, and brother, Willie.
He is survivied by brother, Cress Steele and wife Pauline of Odessa; nephews, Foy Sheldon and wife Mary, Douglas Hatley and wife Rhonda and Charles Ray Sheldon and wife Cathy; niece, Joy Nell Davis and husband Gabby; brother-in-law Charlie Sheldon and wife Eula Bell; sisters-in-law, Edna Perkins, Florence Sheldon and Beatrice Sheldon; and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall, 321 N. Adams, with Brian Avila officiating.

Paula Jo Bingham
ODESSA — Paula Jo Bingham went to be with our Lord, Jan. 26,2003, at her sister’s home in Odessa after fighting cancer since July. Paula was born April 15, 1935, in Canyon, Tx, to Joe and Pauline McCarty.
Paula was in the process of moving to Taylor, Tx, after living in Cloudcroft, N.M., 24 years.
She was a member of Mountain of The Lord Faith Fellowship Church in Cloudcroft, N.M. She retired as an EMT in March 2002 after serving as EMS Head coordinator for James Canyon Vol. Fire Dept. She was also a former reporter for Mountain Monthy News in Cloudcroft.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Tony Orsini, a sister, Deve Ann Orsini.
She is survived by her husband, Neely Bingham of Taylor, Tx; sons, Kenneth Melton of Gillette, Wyo., Mickey Jo Guffey of Pittsburgh, Tx, and Lee Bingham of Taylor, Tx; daughters, Jackie Sue Jackson of Roswell, N.M., and Debra Wendt of Brookshire, Tx; eight grandchildren; sister, Sue Wallace of Odessa; and a host of other family and friends.

Toribio Gonzales
ODESSA — Toribio Lerma Gonzales, 67 years of age, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital after a long illness. He was born April 16, 1935, in Big Wells, Texas, to Manuel and Maria Gonzales. He married
Felma Salazar January 19, 1960, in Pecos.
Mr Gonzales is survived by his wife, Felma of Odessa; sons, Amado Gonzales and Pedro Gonzales, both of Odessa; daughter, Leticia Gonzales and her husband, Kirby Newbanks, of Odessa; brothers, Augustine Gonzales and Amado Gonzales, both of Odessa; sisters, Cayetana Sauceda of Odessa, San Juana Ruiz of Odessa, Cecilia Robledo of Portland, Tx, Ignacia Guerra of Sinton, Tx, and Manuela Lira of Austin; granddaughters, Rita Gonzales and husband, Joey Nava, and Natalie Tavarez; grandsons, David Gonzales and Alex Gonzales. And his most faithful and loyal friend Tommy Gonzales.
Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Odessa Funeral Home. Ralph E. Landford Jr.
ODESSA — Mr. Ralph E. Landford Jr. of Odessa passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at the age of 79, at the Hospice House in Odessa. He was born May 6, 1923, in Blacklick, Ohio, to Ralph E. Landford Sr. and Bertha Lorrine Foor.
Mr. Landford Jr. was a postal carrier for over 30 yrs. He also enjoyed working on golf carts. Ralph served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married
Dorothy L. Wood Aug. 4, 1946.
Memorial services are scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. The VFW will perform full military honors.
Mr. Landford is survived by his wife of 56 yrs., Dorothy Landford of Odessa; daughter Patricia and husband, Glyn Day, of Marble Falls, Texas; brother, Maurice and wife, Elaine Landford, of Murrieta, Calif.; sister, Nelda Read of Odessa, Texas; granddaughters, Nancy and husband, Tom Campbell, of Midland, Tx, Peggy and husband, Jon Ussery, of San Antonio, Tx, Cheryl and husband, Mike McElhaney, of Odessa, Tx; and four great-grandchildren, Cody McElhaney, Annabelle Campbell, Catlyn Ussery and Keely Ussery.

Kenneth Melton
GILLETTE, WYO. — Kenneth Melton went to be with our Lord eight hours after his mother passed away, Jan 26, 2003, at his aunt’s home in Odessa. Kenneth, was born Aug, 5, 1954, in Clinton, Ark. For the last 13 years he resided in Gillette, Wyo. He was an employee of MSE in Gillette.
He is survived by his wife, Kate, and his son, Tyler Melton, of the home; daughter, Shawna Melton of Salt Lake City, Utah; brother, Mickey Jo Guffey of Pittsburgh, Tx; sister, Jackie Sue Jackson of Roswell, N.M.; step-brother, Lee Bingham; step-sister, Debra Wendt of Brookshire, Tx; and aunt, Sue Wallace of Odessa.

E. C. Pruitt
ODESSA — E. C. Pruitt, 84, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at the Hospice House. He was born March 6, 1918, in Munday, Texas. He married
Marguerite Austin Feb. 12, 1939, in Abilene. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He moved to Odessa in 1958. He was retired from El Paso Products and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Pruitt of Odessa; sons, Ronnie Pruitt of Amarillo, Mark Pruitt of Houston and Gary Pruitt and wife, Kippy, of The Woodlands; daughters, Linda Green of Garland, Sharon Pack and husband, Doug, of Dumas, Judy Ward and husband, David, of Odessa, and Jane Tharp and husband, Roger, of Kingwood; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Gavino Vasquez Jr.
ODESSA — Gavino “Santos” Vasquez Jr. of Odessa passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at the age of 82 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Nov. 2, 1920, in Kenedy, Texas, to Gavino Vasquez and Rosa Cervantes.
Mr. Vasquez was a retired custodian for the Ector County Independent School District. He enjoyed working in his yard and bragging about his children and grandchildren. Santos served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received an honorable discharge in Nov. of 1945. He married
Lucila Villarreal April 20, 1947.
Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Latter Rain Worship Center with Pastor Craig DeArmand, Pastor Gavino Ramirez and Brother Mike Sanders officiating the services. The VFW will perform military honors.
Mr. Vasquez is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lucila Vasquez of Odessa; sons, Gilbert and wife, Adela, of Odessa, Danny and wife, Barbara, of Bakersfield, Calif., Victor and wife, Maria, Bakersfield, Calif., and Vince and wife, Mary, of Odessa; dauhgters, Hilda and husband, Raul, of Las Vegas, Nev., Audelia and husband, Ruben, of Bakersfield, Calif., Yolanda and husband, Mark, of Bakersfield, Calif., Irene and husband, Lupe, of Bakersfield, Calif., Rose Gomez of Odessa and Juanita Vasquez of Austin; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Vasquez was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Arnulfo and Guillermo. He was a member of Templo Aposento Alto and a former member of Latter Rain Worship Center.
The family will receive friends from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday at Chapa Funeral Home. Public visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Vasquez, Raul Ruiz Jr., Javier Ramirez Jr., Ramiro Cortez, Ricky Cortez, Daniel Cortez, Richard Gomez and Ismael Ruiz.
