Matias Hernandez
ODESSA — Matias Hernandez, 73, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. Mr. Hernandez was born Feb. 24, 1929, in Loving, N.M., to father Preciliano Hernandez and mother Maria Sanchez, who both preceded him in death. His wife, Elfida Amancio Hernandez also preceded in death. He was Catholic.
Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Feb. 3, 2003, at Martinez Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Martin Catholic Church, South Ranchito, with the Rev. V. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Celestina Perez of Odessa; one son, Matias Amancio Hernandez Jr. of Odessa; five daughters, Virginia Martinez, Ninfa Hernandez, Maria Vasquez, Aurora Castillo and Irene Porras, all of Odessa; two sisters, Gonzala Bustamante of Artesia, N.M., and Felipa Alvarez of El Paso; 21 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Anita Johnson
ODESSA — Anita Johnson, 61, of Odessa, formerly of Stanton, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Home Hospice House Facility in Odessa. Private family graveside rites will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the Evergreen cemetery in Stanton. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church in Stanton with Rev. Micky Munoz with La Luz Ministries in Odessa and Rev. Gene Weinette, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Stanton, officiating.
She was born on August 19, 1941, in Big Spring, Texas, and married
Tom Johnson Jan. 16, 1960, in Big Spring.
She graduated from Stanton High School and had lived in Stanton until 1981, when she moved to Odessa to own and operate The Depot Deli with her husband.
She was a member of Highland United Methodist Church in Odessa. Mrs. Johnson was a devoted Christian and for many years was a member and leader of the Bible Study Fellowship.
Survivors include her husband, Tom Johnson of Odessa; one son, Tom Larry Johnson Jr. of Odessa; two daughters, Leah Mitchell of Lenorah and Julie Johnson of Coahoma; five grandchildren, LyAnna Johnson, Samantha Johnson, Cole Mitchell, Clay Mitchell and Cody Mitchell; five brothers, W. A. Ringener of Stanton, W. J. Ringener, Jr., J. M. Ringener and Merle Ringener, all of Big Spring, and Dairrel Ringener of Fort Worth; four sisters, Pauline Martin of Brownwood, Sis Bedell of Odessa, Lillian Collum of Colorado City and Carolyn Williamson of Coleman.

Manuel Rodriguez
ALPINE — Manuel R. Rodriguez, 80, of Alpine was called upon by his Heavenly Father on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Felicita M. Rodriguez; his sons, Manuel Rodriguez and Rodolfo Rodriguez, both of Fort Stockton, Raul Rodriguez of Alpine, Hector Rodriguez of Odessa, and Gilberto Rodriguez of Alpine; daughters, Mary Ramon of Odessa and Ruby Lane of Cedar Park; 34 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Our Lady of the Peace Catholic Church in Alpine, Texas. Burial will follow.
Charles Guiditas
ODESSA — Charles Guiditas, 80, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Veterans Hospital in Big Spring, Texas. He was born May 5, 1922, in Gypsy, Pa., to Andrew and Margoret Guiditas.
Mr. Guiditas was a Christian and a pumper in the oilfield industry. He was also an Army veteran and served in WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his sister, Josephine and husband, Michael Gargala, of Powhatan Point, Ohio; and a dear friend, Sulinda Robinson of Odessa.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Odessa Funeral Home with family to receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Services by Odessa Funeral Home.
Lewis Carl Webb
ODESSA — On February 1, 2003, at 9:15 p.m., Lewis C. Webb left this earth to be with his beloved wife and Lord. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Mr. Webb was born April 20, 1919, in Montage County, Texas. He was a member of the Sherwood Church of Christ in Odessa. Mr. Webb was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Marine Corps. He loved his country and family more than anything. Mr. Webb moved to Odessa in 1951 where he worked for several oil companies before retiring from El Paso Products in 1980. Mr. Webb was also a 32nd Degree Mason who enjoyed giving far more than receiving. He always looked forward to the day he could be with mom and God. He is preceded in death by his wife, Juanita, in July of 1992.
He is survived by his son, Mike Webb and his wife, Debra; daughter, Darlene Bronaugh and her husband, Ken, and daughter, Tammy Spolton and her husband, Mark. The grandchildren, Phil Webb and his wife, Glenda, David Walker, David Fryman and his wife, Kobi, Curtis Fryman, Kevin Fryman and Kimberly Pruitt. The great grandchildren, Brandy, Amanda, Tera, Jamie, Kendra, Shawna, Jay, Destiny, Krystal, April, Dylan, JJ, Maddie, and Mason. The great great grandchildren, Amber and Trent.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Lewis Zuehlke
BALLINGER — Lewis G. Zuehlke, born in Ballinger Nov. 8, 1933, to Oswald and Irene Scales Zuehlke, has gone to Heaven after a long struggle with emphysema on Saturday evening, Feb. 1, 2003.
Lewis graduated from Ballinger High School, Angelo State and Texas Tech University. He worked for Ballinger Truck and Tractor and was a manager for LTV Energy Products in Odessa for 21 years and instructed the TABC laws for several years before retiring. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Lewis married
Geraldine Pearse April 5, 1969, in Ballinger. They have a daughter, Laura Jene (Zuehlke) Brooks and her husband, Marty Joe; their “God Given” granddaughter, Hannah Joe Brooks of seven months; and of course Marty’s parents, Joe and Gaye Brooks, who not only became part of the family, but also best friends.
Lewis’ sister, Wanda Stokes and husband, Herman; sisters-in-law, Earlene Bickham and Glenda Knapp; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
There will be a family visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Rains-Seale Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, in the Seventh Street Baptist Church in Ballinger. Military graveside services will follow in the Evergreen cemetery.

Jake D. Grigry
ODESSA — Jake D. Grigry of Odessa passed from this life Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at University Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 68. He was born Nov. 15, 1934, in Ardmore, Okla., to William and Anna Mae Grigry and moved to Wickett, Texas, in December of 1934.
Jake married
Patricia Smith Nov. 17, 1968, and served his country in the Korean War, retiring from the Navy and the Naval Reserves. He was an oilfield welder, an electrician, worked in heating and air conditioning and was an engineering supervisor until he retired in 1991. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodcarving and was a member of Open Door Assembly of God Church. In the past, he was a Royal Ranger leader with the church.
Jake is survived by his wife, Patricia Grigry of Odessa; four sons, Scott Brown, Greg Brown, Jason Grigry and Jody Grigry, all of Odessa; a daughter, Kimberly Rollins of Lake Butler, Fla.; his brothers, Wayne Grigry and Leon Grigry, both of Monahans; his sisters, Ruth Adams of Douglas, Ga., Billie Ragan of Odessa, Mary Nall of Monahans, Polly Flatt of Victoria and Donna Hunt of Mancus, Colo.; as well as his seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Open Door Assembly of God with Rev. Larry Elder and Rev. Jeremy Gaddis officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Royal Ranger of Open Door Assembly of God Church.

Lida Mae Caudill
MIDLAND — Lida Mae Caudill passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at a local hospital.
She was born Nov. 16, 1918, in Maryneal, Texas, and graduated from Abilene High School in 1937. After marrying Howard Eugene Caudill in 1940, Lida lived in Hobbs, N.M. before moving to Odessa, Texas, in 1947. Prior to her retirement she was employed with Sears Roebuck Company in Odessa for 31 years. She moved to Midland, Texas, in 1996.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, in 1988; her parents and two brothers, Wilford Lewis and Charles Lewis.
Lida is survived by two daughters, Jolene Lunsford of Odessa, TX; Linda Powell and husband, Frank, of Midland, TX; four grandchildren, James Allen, Bill Allen and wife, Eileen, all of Apache Junction, AZ, Stacy Cooper and husband, Ken, of Allen, Texas, Brent Powell of Seattle, WA; four great-grandchildren, Andrew Allen of Midland, Texas, Jacob, Alex and Kaitlin Cooper of Allen, Texas; brothers, Aubrey Lewis and wife, Evelyn, of Abilene, Texas; sister, Merlene Lewis of Abilene; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Ellis Funeral Home between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.

Roberta Arlene Caviness
ODESSA — Roberta Arlene Caviness of Odessa passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital at the age of 77. She was born Sept. 23, 1925, in Enid, Okla.
She attended school in Enid, Okla. She was a resident of Odessa for several years. She enjoyed babysitting children.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Chapa Funeral Home Chapel. Grandson Jimmie Mathews will assist with the service.
Survivors include her son, Donald Caviness of Odessa; her daughters, Patricia Ann Denton and husband, Greg, of Paradise, Calif., and Carolyn Sue Mathews and husband, Jimmie, of Odessa; her special daughter, Geneva Palmieri of Gordons Corner, N.J.; sister, Donna Mack of Cushing, Okla.; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.H. Caviness; parents, Robert and Amy Larkey; grandmother, Maude; brother, Orville Larkey; and sister, Virginia Sliter.

Roy Willis Collins
SEALY — Roy Willis Collins, 91, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, in The Colonial Belle Nursing Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at First United Methodist Church, Tuscola, with the Rev. John Hogan officiating. Burial will be at Buffalo Gap cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home, Tuscola.
Mr. Collins was born Sept. 22, 1911, on the family homestead on Elm Creek, Taylor County, near Buffalo Gap, Texas.
He and his wife, Shelba, spent 25 years in and around Odessa, moving several times in the late sixties.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shelba in 1982; one son, John Roy Collins in 1942; on sister, Ida Martin; two brothers, John “Tom” W. Collins and Levia Hill Collins.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda L. Sievers of Katy; two sons, Raymond “Butch” W. Collins of Katy and David C. Collins of Greenfield Center, N.Y.; one sister, Thelma Brookreson of Round Rock; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Skyler Lee Wilburn
ODESSA — Skyler Lee Wilburn, a junior student at Permian High School, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
Skyler was born Jan. 26, 1986 in Odessa. He accepted Christ at an early age at the Bethlehem Baptist Church under the pastorate of the Rev. Roscoe Sutton. Later, he became an active youth at the King Solomon Baptist Church under the pastorate of the Rev. G.T. Garnett.
He attended Blanton and Burnet Elementary, Bonham and Nimitz Junior High. Skyler was a member of the Permian High School junior varsity basketball team.
Some of his friends, at the King Solomon Baptist Church, have reported that his smiling face that they saw every Sunday has been “so vividly etched” in their memory. Many schoolmates of Skyler have memories of how his smile brightened their most cloudy days. He was a very special person. Students at Permian High School have said, “One thing that everyone at PHS will never forget about Skyler is his smile. He had a smile on his face that could have melted steel.”
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Walker Chapel Church of God in Christ with the Rev. G.T. Garnett officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery under the direction of Chapa Funeral Home.
Public viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Chapa Funeral Home. He will lie in state from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday at Walker Chapel Church of God in Christ, 525 S. Grandview Ave.
Skyler was preceded in death by his grandfather, Sammy Lee Forge.
Survivors include his mother, Brenda Stephens; father, Lee Wilburn; brothers, Tyrone Thomas and Marquett Wilburn; sisters, Nicole Thomas and Jacolbree Stephens; maternal grandmothers, Betty Jo Stephens and Johnnie Forge; paternal grandmother, Cora Scott; paternal great-grandmother, Henrietta Hatcher; niece, Javalyn Stephens Bates; nephew, Keldric Thomas; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
