Edmon Lang Jr.
ODESSA — Edmon Lang Jr., 66, of Odessa passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Saint James Baptist Church with the Rev. R. T. McNeil officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Edmon was born Oct. 18, 1936, in Childress to the Mr. Edmon Lang Sr. and Mrs. Hattie Flemons Lang, who both preceded him in death. He was reared in Childress and attended J. J. Rhoads public schools. He was baptized at St. John Baptist Church in Childress, and later joined St. James Baptist Church in Odessa.
He was united in marriage Dec. 29, 1959, to Iris June Cameron. To this union three children were born, Sherrie Lang, Anita O’Neal and Tony Lang, all of Odessa.
In 1958, Edmon graduated cum laude from Butler College in Tyler, receiving his bachelors of science degree. He received his masters of education degree in 1967 from Texas Southern University in Houston. He received his administrator’s certificate from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 1976. A firm believer in education, Edmon continued his studies at the University of Erlangen, Germany, University of Texas, East Texas State University, Texas Tech University, University of Texas at Arlington, Odessa College, Midland College and Eastern New Mexico University.
Edmon began his teaching career in Childress. After teaching one year, he was called to serve his country in the United States Army from 1959 until 1965. Following his discharge, he resumed his teaching career in Levelland and Morton. In 1967, he became employed by the Ector County Independent School District. For 12 years, he taught sixth grade at Burnet Elementary. He went on to become principal for the District in 1979, serving in capacity at Austin, Fannin and Sam Houston Elementary. He retired from service in 1992.
Survivors include his wife, Iris June; two daughters, Dr. Sherrie Lynette Lang and Anita Lang O’Neal and son-in-law, Ricky O’Neal; one son, Paul Anthony (Tony) Lang; two granddaughters, Brittanie and Chloe O’Neal, all of Odessa; two brothers, Joe W. Odhams of Reno, Nev., and Ocie Odhams and wife, Evelyn, of Barstow, Calif.; one sister, Doris Ann Truesdale Hamptlon and husband, Benny Hamptlon, of Barstow Calif.; one aunt, Angela Owens of Sacramento, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Cecil Woodlock
ODESSA — Mr. Woodlock, 94, passed from this life on Sunday morning, Jan. 19, 2003, at Terrace West Nursing Home. He was born July 7, 1908, in Abilene. He married
Goza Lee Thompson Dec. 24, 1938, in Abilene.
Mr. Woodlock “PaPa” moved to Odessa in the 40’s, owned and operated Woodlock Furniture and The Long Horn Motel before retiring in the 70’s.
Mr. Woodlock served in WWII as a Fireman First Class on the Abner Reed, which was hit by a suicide bomber. He was one of 200 to 300 who survived the attack. He remained in the shark-infested water for about half an hour until the men were brought to safety.
His wife, Goza Lee Woodlock, and son, Cecil Kern Woodlock Jr., preceded Mr. Woodlock in death.
One sister, Anna Hill; one grandchild, Chase Woodlock; and several nieces and nephews survive him.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Caroline J. Bishop
ODESSA — Caroline J. Bishop, 75, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born March 26, 1927, in Lindsey, Okla., to Roy P. and Thelma Goad Tookes. She married
Kenneth D. Goodding on June 25, 1945, and was later married
to Robert E. Bishop in 1961.
Mrs. Bishop graduated from Emmerich Manual Training High School in Indianapolis in 1944. She was office manager for 25 years for Capitol Orthopedics in Indianapolis. She loved to sew, craft and read. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl L. Ferguson and husband Gary of Odessa; three grandchildren, Chris Ferguson of Odessa, Cathy Ferguson of Fort Worth and Caroline Portegies of Odessa; great-grandson, Hunter Colbert of Odessa; sisters-in-law, Betty Hogan of Forest City, N.C., and Margaret Robinson of Brownsburg, Ind.; brothers-in-law, William Bishop and wife Hattie of Indianapolis, the Rev. Charles Bishop and wife Lila of Chickasha, Okla; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Bushart officiating.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Washington Park East cemetery in Indianapolis, Ind.

Isabell Davis
ODESSA — Our precious mom, Isabell Davis, 85, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, in Odessa, Texas.
Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview. She was laid to rest beside her husband, Herbert Davis.
A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, Isabell was strong in her beliefs in the Lord and the Christian faith. All who knew her loved her.
Survivors include her daughters, Jane Windham of Odessa and Kay Berryman of Cody, Wyo.; grandchildren, Melissa Mills of Fort Stockton, Lisa Williams of Cody, Wyo., Danny Windham of Odessa, Kurt Berryman of Bowie and Louisa Stagner of Byers; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Zelda Adair of Lake Arrowhead.
The family wishes to thank Home Hospice in making her passage home one of comfort and caring. We also thank all those who cared and ministered to her at Sienna Nursing Home and formerly New Horizons for five years.
Alzheimer’s may have taken us from her memory, but we will always remember a precious lady and mother.
Margaret Havener Gray
ODESSA — Margaret Miller was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Big Spring to Kyle and Frankie Miller. On June 15, 1941, she married
Joe Havener. Margaret worked for many years as a bookkeeper. On May 29, 1976, Margaret married
Daniel Gray. Margaret passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at her home.
Margaret was involved with the Ector County 4-H Youth for 40 years. She was also a charter member of the American Paint Horse Association, a founding member of the Permian Basin Paint Horse Club, a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, a member of the Odessa Garden Club and an active member of Sunset Heights Baptist Church.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Gray; her parents, Kyle and Frankie Miller; brothers, H.S. “Sam” Miller and Kyle Miller Jr.; and sisters, Jenny Sontaf and Rhoda Lemons.
Margaret is survived by her daughters, Sandra Havener of Odessa and Debby Whittemore of Goldsmith; grandson, Luke Whittemore of Amarillo; granddaughter, Megan Whittemore of Odessa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Sunset Heights Baptist Church with Bro. Jess Little officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive cemetery in Big Spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be made to Sunset Heights Baptist Church.

Marshalene Greer
SHEFFIELD — Marshalene Greer, 62, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born Aug. 12, 1940, to Emmitt and Ollie Mae Adair in Nowata, Okla. She came to Odessa in 1967 from Rankin and was a registered nurse. She was Baptist.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Graveside services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, in Sheffield.
Survivors include her family, Tom Greer; and son, Joe Tom Greer of Odessa.

James Michael Leach
ODESSA — James Michael Leach, 57, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston after a lengthy illness.
Jim was born in Oshkosh, Wis., to Gerald and Bernadette Leach on Aug. 21, 1945. Jim moved to Odessa in the mid 1980s where he met and married
Anita Evans Alsup on June 10, 1988.
Jim was the manager for Stemarco Engraving in Odessa. Jim had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. He was very accomplished in the art of lapidary and created many impressive and beautiful pieces of jewelry. Jim was active in the Midland Gem and Mineral Society and served as a former board member. He also had a fondness for old cars and could never pass up the chance to tinker with one.
Another of his favorite pastimes was gardening and landscaping his backyard. He could get anything to grow just about anywhere.
Jim and his wife, Anita, liked nothing better than heading to the mountains of Colorado where they enjoyed camping and fishing. He had a great love for the outdoors and everything in it.
Jim will always be remembered for his gentle nature and quiet demeanor.
The illness that struck him quickly took his physical strength and eventually his life, but it never took his dignity or ready smile. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
His father preceded him in death.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Anita Leach; his mother, Bernadette Leach of Odessa; brother, Ronald James Leach of Lyndonville, Vt.; stepson, Daniel Alsup and wife Jaime of San Diego, Calif.; stepdaughter, Angela Crouch and husband Joshua of Odessa; and one grandson, Austin Lee Alsup of San Diego, Calif.
Family visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, January 27, 2003, at First Presbyterian Church of Odessa, with the Rev. Steve Deines officiating.

Jewel McDougal
CRANE — Jewel McDougal, 81 of Odessa, passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in the Odessa Medical Center Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at the Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God Church in Odessa with the Rev. Floyd Jennings and the Rev. Scott Sprouse officiating.
Burial will follow in the Crane County cemetery with services under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Jewel was born on Feb. 15, 1921, in Margaret, Texas, to Rolan and Veda Brown. She married
Oscar McDougal on Feb. 11, 1937, in McCamey. She was a bookkeeper and had worked for J.B. Rogers Construction and Permian Mud Service before her retirement. She had lived in Odessa since 1988, and was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister; and her husband, Oscar McDougal on Oct. 15, 1999.
She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Laird of Gardendale, Texas, and Delois Hedges and husband R.C. of Humble, Texas; a brother, W.A. Brown of Austin; grandchildren, Sandra Jo Peng and husband Gary of Spring, Texas, Susan Light and husband John of San Antonio, Texas, and Tammy Blume and husband Paul of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Kali and Annie Blume of Houston, Texas, Devin, Cody and Brett Light of San Antonio, Texas, and Aaron and Lindsey Peng of Spring, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Charles Alves, Bill Bowen, Wilson Winn, Buford McGuire, Burl Pringle and Daniel Brown.
Mildred Joy Peetz
ODESSA — Mildred Joy Harp was born March 16, 1916, in Corbin, Ky. She married
Paul Peetz in 1947 in Louisville, Ky. Mildred lived most of her life in Kentucky. She left Corbin in 1937 and headed to Louisville, where she lived until 1995. In 1995, she came to Odessa to live with her daughter. Mildred passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village.
Mildred was a homemaker who loved to read, crochet and garden. She will always be remembered as a very giving, very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to helping others.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Pat Grant of Odessa; granddaughters, Sharon Howe and husband Tim of Odessa and Michelle Durrett of Louisville, Ky.; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Howe of Odessa.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Pete, in 1995.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.
