ODESSA — Maria Torres, 67, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Odessa Hospice House. She was born February 28, 1936, in Ojinaga, Mexico.
She is survived by her husband, Agapito Torres of Odessa; sons, Abraham Torres, Jorge Luis Torres, Ismael Torres and Rojelio Torres, all of Odessa, and Ciro Torres of Seminole; daughters, Enedelia Torres, Maribel Franco and Veronica Rodriguez, all of Odessa, and Maria Del Carmen Torres of Ojinaga, Mexico; brothers, Juan Marquez of Juarez, Mexico, Jose Marquez of Ojinaga, Mexico, Jesus Marquez of Artesia, N.M., Jose Socorro Marquez of Seminole, Octavio Marquez and Usbaldo Marquez, both of Odessa; sisters, Juana Marquez and Martina Marquez, both of Ojinaga, Mexico; 24 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Serafin Avenido officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Her sons and grandson will serve as Pallbearers.

Rosa Lea Baucum
ODESSA — Rosa Lea Baucum “Granny Rose,” beloved mother and grandmother, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at the age of 83 while being cared for in Corpus Christi at her son’s residence.
Rosa was a longtime resident of Odessa and a member of Sherwood Baptist Church where she attended the Ladies One Sunday School Class and the Ladies Quilting Circle, both of which she enjoyed tremendously. She was a volunteer and past board member for West Texas Opportunities. She was a feisty lady with many talents and abilities who lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, arts and crafts, cooking, gardening, decorating, fishing, and spending time with her family and friends. She had a heart for children and was “Granny Rose” to many.
She was born to Gregory Hernandez and Evelyn Richardson Hernandez on September 4, 1919, in Wapanucka, Okla. She married
Robert Gable in 1934 and had three sons. She later married
Virgil P. “John” Baucum in 1962.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Maggie; her stepfather, Ed Turner; her husband, Virgil Baucum; her brother, Sylvester Hernandez; her oldest son, Robert Edward “Bob” Gable; and her brothers, Paul Turner and Clyde Turner.
She is survived by two sons, Billy Joe Gable and wife, Sue, of Liberty Hill, Texas, and Jimmy Leon Gable and wife, LaJuana, of Corpus Christi, Texas; and one brother, Homer Turner of Cross Plains, Texas. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Kelly Kullenberg of Cedar Park, Stacey Herzog and husband, Ronnie, of Leander, Tammy Hendricks and husband, Steve, of Odessa, Greg Gable of Ft. Worth, Donna James of Corpus Christi, and Jay Gable and wife, Jill, of San Antonio; her six great grandchildren, Lauren Kullenberg, Bobby Ed Herzog, Tyler Hendricks, Holly Hendricks, Jordan James and Chelsea James; numerous nieces and nephews; and her daughters-in-law, Pat Gable and Gail Pool.
Rosa was an example of perseverance, strength and independence to her children and grandchildren. She had a special relationship with each child, grandchild and great-grandchild individually. Her family was the joy of her life and she worked hard to build great memories. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed on this earth, but we have hope and great joy in knowing that this is not the end and we will see her again soon!
Visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Friday, March 21, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Sherwood Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Hiser officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sherwood Baptist Ladies Quilting Group.
Joshua Paul Trekell
DALLAS — Joshua Paul Trekell, 24, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, in an automobile accident in Dallas, Texas.
Memorial services were held at Perkins Chapel at SMU on March 6, 2003. Services were conducted by Rev. Steve Jester and associate pastor Melinda Veatch of St. Phillip Presbyterian of Hurst, Texas, and Rev. Dr. William M. Finnim, Chaplain of SMU, Dallas, Texas.
Josh was born November 14, 1978, in Odessa. He started to school at Gonzales Elementary. The family moved to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in 1990. Josh graduated from North Richland Hills Christian School in 1997. He then attended Southern Methodist University where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and photo editor for the Daily Campus Newspaper. He traveled and photographed many parts of the world including Spain, Italy, France and Sweden. In 2001, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history and political science and had plans to pursue a career in law. Josh was an active member of intramural sports and volunteered with the Special Olympics. Josh was a member of St. Phillips Presbyterian Church of Hurst, Texas.
Josh is survived by his parents, Don and Theresa Trekell, and sister, Emily Trekell of Dallas; maternal grandparents, George and Irene Stanford of Odessa; paternal grandparents, Marty and Don Trekell of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and his college sweetheart, Lindsay Lowery of Memphis, Tenn.
Josh was a wonderful person and loyal friend. His smile and sense of humor will be missed.

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio.
