Jack P. Chapman
ODESSA — Jack P. Chapman, 84, of Odessa passed away at home on January 10, 2003. He was born August 29, 1918, in Bronte, Texas, to O. W. and Julia Chapman. He married
Pauline Matthews on August 13, 1939, in Denton, Texas.
Jack was preceded in death by his older brother, LaMarr Chapman; grandson, Stephen Guy Johns; and his wife of 61 years, Pauline Matthews Chapman.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Ann “Cookie” McGuire; grandson, Phillip Johns; granddaughter, Liz Moore and husband, Jerry; great-grandson, Sean Alexander; and great-granddaughter, Stevie Moore.
After serving in the Air Force during World War II, the Jack Chapman family moved to Odessa where he joined his brother at the George Marsh CPA Firm. Later it became Faris, Harris, Chapman & Marsh CPA Firm. Jack had many other business ventures. He served on the board for Libert Mutual Insurance in Boston, Mass. He owned the Doodlebug Ranch south of Penwell, Texas.
Jack believed in giving back to the community and he served on the city council, on the boards of the YMCA, Girl Scouts, Red Corss, United Way and many others. He received many awards during his lifetime, but he found joy in the deed, not the praise.
Jack was a very loving husband. He was also a wonderfather to his only child, Ann “Cookie” McGuire who adored him, as did his granddaughter, Liz Moore, and his great-granddaughter, Stevie Moore. There was mutual love between Jack and a little Chihuahua named Consuelo, affectionately referred to as “Baby.”
The devotion of four “Angelic” caregivers is incredible. They are: Onita Ervin, Amy Rodriguez, Vertis Green and Josie Frausto. These ladies have become extended family to Jack and Cookie and words can’t express the gratitude and love felt for them.
Jack enjoyed flying, as a pilot and as a passenger, he enjoyed golf, hunting and keeping physically fit.
Jack had a positive attitude, never said a bad word about anyone and was a very kindhearted, gentle man. He belonged to the 21st and Eisenhower Church of Christ. He loved his Heavenly Father and has gone to be with Him. He was admired, respected and loved by many. Especially John Warren, a dear and loyal longtime friend. Jack will be greatly missed by all.
