Sharon Kay (Pittman) Dengler
TYLER — Sharon Kay (Pittman) Dengler was born July 26, 1956, in Dallas and passed away Thursday, March 6, 2003, at her home in Flint after losing a long, hard battle with cancer.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 27 years, Gerard “Jerry” C. Dengler, age 47, and a son, Jeremy A. Dengler, age 23, both of Flint; her parents, Hubert M. and Virginia A. Pittman of Chandler; a sister, Deborah G. Pittman Gentry and her husband, Joseph H. Gentry and sons, Michael, Joshua, Jacob and Zachary Gentry, all of Chandler; a brother, Curtis R. Pittman and his daughter, Austyne M. Pittman, of Evans, Colo. Other survivors include a large group of much loved aunts, uncles and cousins.
Sharon owned and operated an entertainment booking agency for 10 years. After retiring from that business in 1993, she spent time as a homemaker. From 1996 to 1998, she went to work for Thompson Hill and from 1999 to 2002, she worked as accounting manager for Cannon Steel. Sharon spent much of her time at home on Lake Palestine gardening. Sharon was also an avid golfer and was a member of Oakhurst Golf Course. Sharon and her family are members of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler.
Services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 8, in the old chapel at Green Acres Baptist Church followed by a gathering at her home on Lake Palestine.
At her request, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice House of East Texas or the Tyler Cancer Center.
Arrangements are under the direction of Advantage Mortuary Services, Tyler.
Robert Lea Jr.
ODESSA — Robert Lea Jr., 84, passed away Friday, March 7, 2003 at Parks Methodist Nursing Home in Odessa. He was born on May 10, 1918, in Archer City, Texas, to Robert and Mary Lea. Robert was Methodist. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Robert married
Maxine Johns on September 3, 1950, in Odessa, Texas, and was a resident of Odessa since 1959. He was a Primary Flight Instructor pilot in World War II. He then attended school at UT of Austin where he received a degree in pharmacology. Robert was employed for 12 years by L&H Drug Co. He also worked for Nelson Pharmacy and the Pharmacy in Furrs grocery store upon retirement. The family of Robert Lea would like to express many thanks to the staff at Parks Methodist and to the Hospice House for providing the utmost loving care to their loved one.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Lea; and his son, Harold Lea; brother, Jim Steding; and sister, Martha Lea.
He is survived by his son, Bobby Lea and wife, Debbie, of Odessa; brother, George Steding of Jacksonville, Texas; sister, Marie Mclendon of Odessa; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” Lea of Nash, Texas; grandchildren, Pam McWilliams and husband, David, Theresa Wallace and husband, Donnie, John Lea, Stephen Lea, Kimberly Hays, Jonie Lea and Jamie Lea; great-grandchildren, Candace Wallace, Randy Wallace, David McWilliams and Amanda Lea; and great-great-grandchild, Genises Wallace.

Betty Jean Leverett
ODESSA — Betty Jean Leverett passed away Saturday, March 8, 2003, at her residence. Betty was born April 16, 1935, in Electra, Texas, to Jody and Zelma Dean. She married
Junior Leverett September 24, 1951, in Electra. Betty was a homemaker and a member of the Sherwood Baptist Church.
Mrs. Leverett loved to travel, shop, cook, laugh, play card games and setting on the deck drinking coffee in the morning and coke in the afternoon. She was a World Champion Canasta player in three countries and if she got beat she would call you “Tacky.” She was the best fishing partner and had a great love for all animals and would have one of every kind if she could.
Betty is survived by her husband, Junior Leverett of Odessa; daughters, Kathy Kay of Denver, Colo., and Jodie Wright of Odessa; mother, Zelma Dean of Houston, Texas; brothers, Troy Dean and David Dean, both of Bryan, Texas; sisters Glenna Leonard of Tomball, Texas, and Doris Meador of Houston; grandchildren, Cami and Jeremy Kay, Lacy Hudson, Mason, Charles and Kamron Wright; and great grandchildren, David Avery and Ashley Hubbard.
Services were held Monday, March 10, 2003 at 3 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Riley officiated and interment followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Mike Roberts
ODESSA — Mike Roberts went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 8, 2003, after a brief battle with cancer. Mike was born on July 20, 1942. He graduated from Ector High School in 1961 and remained a lifelong resident of Odessa.
Mike was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle. His family loves him and will miss him terribly. Mike retired from Huntsman in July 2000 after 34 years of service. He enjoyed traveling, poetry, music, gardening, fishing and playing cards. Mike was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Betty, in 1995. He was blessed to find love again and married
Mary Spencer in 1997.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Roberts of Odessa; son, Michael Roberts II of Grand Prairie; daughter, Angela Roberts of Odessa; stepson, Trey Spencer of Pueblo, Colorado; stepdaughter, Renee Phillips of Odessa; sister, Bette Sikes of Odessa and Penny Wiscombe of El Paso; also eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday March 11, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gale Wilson and Father David Mossbarger officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2003.
Pallbearers will be Andy Andrews, Steven Roberts, Johnny Sikes, Steve Wiscombe, Jim Wiscombe, Joel Wiscombe and Honorary Pallbearer is Jim Gable.

Lona Mae White Sapp
ODESSA — Lona Mae White Sapp went to join her Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Seabury Nursing Centery in Odessa. Lona was born on Sept. 7, 1911, in Comanche County, Texas, to Berta Arthur White and James Marion White. She spent her early years in Comanche and moved to Ranger when she was a teen. She worked for Woolworth’s when she met Audra Dee “Jack” Sapp. They were married
on July 10, 1938, in Eastland, Texas. They lived in Port Arthur and Crane and moved to Odessa in 1945. She was employed in Odessa with Strike It Rich and Simpson’s Photo Lab until she retired.
She was an excellent seamstress who used to make clothes she saw in stores without a pattern. She was also a good cook who will be remembered for her pies and cakes. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church as long as she was able to go. Her mother, father, two sisters, Lillian Coker of Comanche and Jewel Zeigler of Odessa, two brothers, R. S. White of Ranger and Chester A. White of Odessa, and her husband, Jack Sapp, preceded her in death.
Lona is survived by daughters, Pat Mims and husband, Gary, of Fort Worth, Susan Drapeau of Odessa; stepson, James Sapp of Longview; grandchildren, Greg Mims of Las Vegas, Nev., Julie Mims of Fort Worth, Paul Drapeau of Houston, James Sapp of Burleson and Judy Shafer. She had two great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons and one great-great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
Grover C. “Cleve” Thomas
MIDLAND — Grover C. “Cleve” Thomas, age 67, of Midland, passed away at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
He was born September 27, 1935, to Grover and Pauline Thomas in Mineral Wells, Texas. Cleve was a graduate of Mineral Wells High School and Ranger Junior College. Prior to his retirement he had been employed by Cabort Corp. and Huntsman Corp. He was a member of Church of Christ of Lindsey, Okla., and attended Crestview Baptist Church in Midland. An active volunteer, he delivered Meals on Wheels and was associated with Community and Senior Services. Cleve’s many interests included raising horses, reading, golfing and any kind of sport.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Karl Dewain Thomas; his parents; and his grandparents, Karl W. and Ivy White Walker of Mineral Wells, who were the light and direction of his life.
Cleve is survived by his wife, Mary Thomas of Midland, TX; daughter, Carrie Ann Lovera of Arlington, TX; sister, Linda Thomas Turner of Midland, TX; son, Eddie Earl Lucas of Midland, TX; son, Randal Clifton Frazier of Colleyville, TX; son, Rory Lynn Frazier of Midland, TX; nine grandchildren, Jason Lovera and Brian Lovera of Arlington, Amanda, Nicholas and Justin Lucas of Midland, Eric Frazier and Taryn Frazier of Colleyville, Christopher Frazier of South Carolina and Dylan Frazier of Midland; granddaughter, Caitlyn Marie Frazier, who’s arrival is expected in April.
The family will receive friends at the Thomas residence Tuesday March 11, 2003, between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday March 12, 2003, at Resthaven Memorial Park-North with Reverend William Clardy officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Roger M. Turner, Robert C. Turner, Charles Whittle, J.B. Whittle, Larry Holmes and Marvin Turner.

Howard “PaPa” Wenger
ODESSA — Howard “PaPa” Wenger passed from mortal sickness into eternal life Saturday, March 8, 2003, while in the presence of his family. Born on January 21, 1941, in Goshen, Indiana, to Ezra and Ella Wenger, Howard led a life full of fun and peace. He and his wife, Pat, would have celebrated forty years of marriage next year. However, they would have only had ten anniversaries since they were wed on Leap Day, 1964. Howard was not only a father to his five children, but also their little league coach and friend. To his eight grandchildren, Howard was very loving, but most of all silly.
Howard served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1968 as a firefighter. He was stationed in Germany, Texas, Alaska and Virginia where he was a part of the NASA space program. Upon leaving the Air Force, Howard moved to Odessa and worked from 1968 to 1992 as a mail carrier. During his time in Odessa, Howard served diligently in local Baptist churches. He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church. He will always be remembered for his light-hearted nature, fun-loving spirit and dedicated friendship.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Ella Wenger; brothers, Robert and Dick Wenger; and sisters, Helen Grimes, Jean Ralston and Martha Young. He is survived by his two brothers, Bud Wenger of Lansing, Kansas, and Jake Wenger of Goshen, Indiana; wife, Pat Wenger of Odessa; sons, Ron Wenger of Dallas, Bill Wenger and his wife, Julie, of Denton, Jim Wenger and his wife, Kelly, of Odessa, and Jesse Wenger and his wife, Jennifer, of Aubrey; daughter, Beth Brown of Augusta, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Kelby Wenger, Lacy Wenger, Kendra Wenger, Hannah Wenger, Tytus Wenger, Alea Brown, Carson Wenger and Patrick Wenger.
The family will receive visitors at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Tuesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Sherwood Baptist Church with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to the Sherwood Baptist Youth Building Fund.

Doyle R. “Poppy” Whittemore
ODESSA — Doyle R. “Poppy” Whittemore passed away Sunday, March 9, 2003, at his residence. Doyle was born May 12, 1929, in Rule, Texas, to C.W. and Sallie Whittemore. He married
Marianna Johnston on June 21, 1949, in Odessa, Texas. Doyle was a Service Station Owner and a Church of Christ member.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas; parents-in-law, Fred and Hettie Goodman; and brother-in-law, Fred C. Goodman.
Doyle is survived by his wife, Marianna Whittemore; sons, Michael Whittemore and wife, Debby, Billy Whittemore and his wife, Jeannie, all of Goldsmith, Texas; daughter Janet Holley of Odessa, Texas; one grandson, Luke, and three granddaughters, Dawn Kirby and her husband, Jamie, Laura Tomlinson and husband, Scott, and Megan Whittemore; three great-grandchildren, Tristan, Aishlynn and Shelby Kirby; brother, C.W. Whittemore Jr. and wife, Jane, of Stamford, Texas; sisters-in-law, Marsha Whittemore and Frankie Goodman; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ola Irene Kowacich
ODESSA — Ola Irene Kowacich was called to heaven to be with our Heavenly Father, her family and friends Thursday, March 6, 2003. She was born May 3, 1925, in Holland, Texas, and has lived in Odessa since 1953. Irene was preceded in death by her mother, Ester Dillard; father, Henry V. Dillard of San Angelo, Texas; a sister, Etta Sudnick; and great-grandson, Ricky Lee Burt.
She is survived by her sisters, Mary Colster and Lorraine Bryan, both of San Angelo, and many nieces and nephews who she loved very much. She is survived by her children, daughters, Jean Tullous of Odessa, Darlene Garrett of Odessa, Brenda Robertson of Kenner, La., Jo Irene Mays of Pampa, Rebekah Wyatt of Odessa; sons, Nathan Kowacich of Atlanta, Ga., and Daniel Kowacich of Odessa. She is also survived by her sons-in-law, Kenneth Wyatt of Odessa and Fred Mays of Pampa, Texas; and daughter-in-law, Donna Kowacich of Odessa; her grandchildren, Jennifer Mays of Waco, Texas, Paige Kowacich of Irving, Texas, Laura Williams, David Garrett, Tammy Tullous, Larry Tullous, Teresa Tullous, Amanda Toney, Ashlea Kowacich, Candace Perry and Victoria Perry, all of Odessa, George Ray Casey, Sherrie Westmoreland, Terri Westmoreland and Rita Faye Casey, all of Houston; and seven great-grandchildren.

Our mother was a wonderful Christian woman who devoted her life to raising her family and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Ricardo ‘Nino’ Flores Jr.
ODESSA — Ricardo “Nino” Chacon Flores Jr. passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. Ricardo was Catholic and was born November 13, 1974, in Odessa.
Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Martinez Funeral Home. Mass will be celbrated at 2 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2003, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Services are under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be David Hernandez Jr., Michael Gonzales, Jamie Diaz, Marcus Deporto, Jacob Hernandez and Jeff Prieto.
He is survived by his wife, Sonia Castillo of Odessa; step-daughter, Lexus Castillo of Odessa; daughter, Ambrey Flores of Odessa; son, Zachary Flores of Odessa; parents, Carlos Alvarez Jr. and Delma Alvarez, both of Odessa; grandfather, Alfonso Chacon of Odessa; and brothers, Frank Alvarez and Carlos Alvarez III, both of Odessa. Ricardo was preceded in death by his grandmother, Benita Chacon; and uncle, Alfonso “Kingo” Chacon, both of Odessa.
It’s surprising how often I think of you, turn and speak to you, and realize you’re not right there as I expect you to be.
I guess I hold you so close in thought that it’s hard to understand sometimes that you aren’t close in person.
But I wanted to let you know I’m thinking of you and wishing we could talk and just be together awhile – you’re really missed!
L. Willard Adams
MOUNT PLEASANT — L. Willard Adams, 82, of Mount Pleasant, a retired drilling superintendent, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2002, at North Texas Medical Center in McKinney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bates-Cooper Funeral Chapel with Tom Kimbrough and Marion Moon officiating. Burial will be at Center Grove cemetery in Mount Pleasant. Arrangements by Bates-Cooper Funeral Home.
He was born in Cookville.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Mary Adams of Mount Pleasant; son, Anthony W. Adams of Anna; daughters, Dianna G. Doggette of Aviano, Italy, and Nancy E. Boyer of Edmond, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
