He was born in El Paso.

ODESSA Evaline Faye Ebert, 85, of Odessa, a retired school teacher, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.

She was born in Pawnee, Okla. and came to Odessa in 1950. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

MIDLAND Micaela Gomez, 60, of Midland, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at the Midland Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Victor, Colo. and has lived in Pecos since 1954. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Christian Church.

Mildred A. Banisky
ODESSA Mildred A. Banisky, 85, passed away at her home on Friday, May 23, 2003.
She was born Jan. 7, 1918, to Henry Clifton and Vernie Elzie Bruce in Taft, Calif.
She married
Walter Banisky on Jan. 21, 1949, in Billings, Mont., later moving to Odessa in 1951.
She was a homemaker, and a member of First Christian Church.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at First Christian Church with Dr. David Mindel officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Banisky of Odessa; son, Robert Bruce Banisky and wife Kellie of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; daughter, Diana Lee Hanway of Odessa; granddaughter, Niki Hutton and husband Andy of Houston; and stepsister, Bebe Bruce of Imperial.

Dr. Thomas L. Coats
ALPINE Dr. Thomas L. Coats, 83, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Big Bend Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Alpine with a military service to follow at Elm Grove cemetery.
Dr. Coats was born in Hamlin, Texas, on June 29, 1919, to Harold and Gay Coats. He was the second of nine children. He graduated from Texas Tech University and Northern Illinois College of Optometry, with additional training at the University of Houston School of Optometry.
Shortly after graduation, he was called to serve his country. As a U.S. Navy aviator, he was sent to Alpine where he trained at Casparis Field. After serving in the Pacific, he returned to Otis Field in Falmouth, Mass., to train for the aircraft carrier, Enterprise (the Big E). There, he met and married
Jane Ashley Coats in 1946. He served in the naval reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Commander.
In 1947, they settled in Alpine and set up practice. He actively maintained his optometry practice for 55 years.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club, American Legion, Republican Party and a charter member of the Alpine Country Club, serving continuously in each for more than 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Coats; one grandson, John Coats; and a brother, David Coats.
Dr. Coats is survived by his wife of 56 years; two sons, Ashley Coats and wife Barbara of Kingwood and Hal Coats of Alpine; two daughters, Palmer Byerley and husband Chris of Joshua and Nancy Rucker and husband Mike of Terrell; brothers, Victor Coats and wife Ruth of Wichita Kan., Jay Coats and wife Dorothy of Dallas, Wayne Coats and wife Myra of Brownfield, Paul Coats and wife Norma of Lubbock; and sisters, Martha Hargrove of Farmers Branch, Ellen Keele and husband Paul of San Angelo and Peggy Conrad and husband Don of Abilene. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Thomas A. Coats and wife Alana of Austin, Roy Coats of Denver, Colo., Daniel Coats of Kingwood, Stephanie Sudomir and husband Joey of Frisco, Paige Darby and husband Josh of Dallas, Brooke Byerley of Fort Collins, Colo., Ray Rucker of wife Connie and Robby Rucker, all of Terrell.
