Stephen Forrester
ODESSA — Stephen Forrester, 50, of Odessa passed from this life Monday, Jan. 13, 2003. Stephen was born Aug. 6, 1952, in Houston to Jimmy Price Forrester and Jackie Glass Forrester. He came to Odessa in 1980 after graduating from Midland Lee in 1971.
On December 23, 1982, he married
Olga Perez. His religious affiliation was Baptist. Stephen was employed by Shell Pipeline for 21 years, and he enjoyed collecting Shell memorabilia. Spending time with his family and his dog, Ginger, were some of his favorite pastimes.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Linda Norlane Jones. He is survived by his wife, Olga Forrester of Odessa; sons, Jason Price Forrester of Midland, Michael Soto of Abilene and Greg Soto and wife, Katie, of Odessa; parents, Jimmy and Jackie Forrester of Odessa; brother, Brad Forrester and wife, Sheri, of Odessa; brother-in-law, Sherman Jones; cousins, Keith and Linda; five grandchildren, Mikey, Ashton, Morgan, Noah and Rae Ray; nephews, Bradley Forrester, David McWilliams and Jonathan McWilliams, all of Odessa; Daron and Paige Jones, Jeffery and Cassey Jones, both of Houston; and nieces, Dahnya Jones of Houston; Tami and Kristin Forrester of Sugarland.
Rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 at Sunset Memorial Chapel. Rev. Warren Taylor will be officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Hospice House. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

DENVER CITY — Lucile Nadine Ashmore, 87, of Denver City died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Yoakum County Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Weldon McCormick and Steve Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Denver City Memorial Park. Arrangements by Ratliff Funeral Home.
She was born in Fort Worth. She was Methodist.

Minnie Brazeal
TEMPLE — Minnie Faye Brazel, 75, of Temple died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, in Odessa.

She was born in Trickham.

MARFA — Jacob Mendias, 79, of Marfa, a carpenter and contractor, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at his residence.

He was born in Marfa. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Kenneth Ray Carlton
ODESSA — Kenneth Ray Carlton, 75, of Odessa, passed away, Friday, May 16, 2003, in Ft. Worth. He was born, June 1, 1927, in Healdton, Okla., to Clyde and Jewel Carlton. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating.
He married
Inez Walker on Oct. 1, 1949, in Corpus Christi. He grew up in Corpus Christi, went to Spartan School of Avionics in Tulsa, OK and attended Delmar Junior College. He served his country in the Navy, during in WW II and Korean War. He has been a resident of Odessa for fifty-one years and a member of Second Baptist Church. Kenneth was an oilfield supply salesman and worked for Engine Service and Supply for thirty-eight years, retired in 1989. He enjoyed woodworking at his shop in his backyard.
Survivors include his wife, Inez Carlton of Odessa; daughters, Joycelyn Carlton and husband, Damien Kovacic, of Sammamish, Wash., Donna Carlton of Kent, Wash., Linda Crawford and husband, Dan, of Austin; mother, Jewel Carlton of Texas City; sister, Sue Warren of Corpus Christi; brothers, Cran Carlton and wife, Ivon, of Bryan, Lonnie Carlton and wife, Betty, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Fred Carlton and wife, Patty, of Texas City.
Kenneth will be lovingly remembered by his adopted families, Steve, Laurie, Jennifer, and Chris Wimberly of Odessa, and by James and Kathe P. Walker; and grandchildren, Trinatty and Tanner of Harlingen, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.

Sybil Lee Ada Edwards
ODESSA — Funeral services for Sybil Lee Ada Edwards of Odessa, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Young officiating. Interment will be at Crane cemetery in Crane.
Sybil, age 76, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born January 7, 1927, in Caddo, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D H. Edwards; her brother, Alfred Edwards; her two sisters, Lois McGhee and Daisy Edwards.
She graduated from lraan High School in the mid 40’s and received her bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Texas Tech in the early 60’s. She was employed by Shell Oil Co. and then retired from Medical Center Hospital. After her retirement, she worked with numerous Permian Basin area physicians, clinics and hospitals.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Odessa and was actively involved in their mission programs, including Mission Odessa, which, besides her family, was the most important area of her life.
She was a member of the Disaster Team for the Red Cross, having participated in rescue efforts in Puerto Rico for Hurricane Mitch and S. Carolina with Hurricane Floyd.
Survivors include her brother, Aubrey Edwards and wife, Charlet, of San Angelo, Texas; her sister, Jackie Thompson and husband, Bill, of Midland, Texas; and sister-in-law, Frances Edwards of Arlington, Texas; three generations of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tom Edwards, Tom Edwards Jr., Bob Jackson, Jacob Kidd, Henry Newfield and David Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be Leroy McClendon, Dewey Loyd, Richard Notley, Gary Pursley and Johnny Smith.

Faye Parker Fanning
CRANE — Faye Parker Fanning, 84, went home to be with her Lord Sunday, May 18, 2003. She had been a resident of Crane for 57 years.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Crane, Texas, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003. Pastor Steve Baker will be officiating. Burial will be at Crane County cemetery. Arrangements by Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Tony Ash, Chris Parker, Kyle Parker, Jason Pettit, Todd Vanderveer, Cory Pettit, Jarad Smith, Jeremy Johnson, Josh Smith and Eugene Penn.
Faye was born in Ricardo, N.M., August 12, 1918, to James Monroe and Ola Mary Vaughn. She was preceded in death by her first husband, L.D. Parker, 1952, and Arlo Fanning, 1999; one son, Lynn Dwayne Parker, 1984; her parents, James Monroe and Ola Mary Vaughn; one brother, Charles Lester Vaughn; one half-brother, Homer Vaughn; and two half-sisters, Ima and Pearl.
Faye and her first husband, L.D. Parker, and their two children, Joyce and Dwayne, moved from Lubbock, Texas, to Crane in 1946, to manage Holman’s Grocery Store. In 1951, they became the proud parents of twin girls, Donna Sue and Vonna Lou.
Besides being a loving mother, wife and friend, she had many accomplishments to her credit. Faye was a member of the Rebecca Lodge and served as the first woman board member of the Crane County Chamber of Commerce. She was elected as County Treasurer in 1955 and held that office until she retired in 1977. She will always be remembered for the honesty and integrity that she brought to Crane County during the 22 years of service.
She enjoyed being a member of the Senior Citizens, bowling, being the #1 Dallas Cowboy Fan on the planet and in her younger years, playing shortstop in the women’s softball leagues in Lubbock and Crane. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by daughters, Joyce Parker Penn and husband, Kenneth, Donna Parker Vanderveer and husband, Larry, Vonna Parker Johnson and husband, Dee, all of Crane; brother, Willis Vaughn of Clovis, N.M.; 14 grandchildren, Kay Beth Ash, Tony Dan Ash, Tobi Lyn Ash, Eugene Penn and Gina Reeves, Chris Parker, Kyle Parker, Jason Pettit, Todd Vanderveer, Tracy Forero, Jarad Smith, Josh Smith, Jason Johnson, Jeremy Johnson and DeeAnn Johnson; and 14 great-grandchildren as well as a host of friends and loved ones.

Ruth Swoopes Houston
HARRISBURG, Pa. — Willie Ruth Swoopes Houston departed this earthly life May 6, 2003, at the Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg, Pa. She was born September 2, 1931, in Lott, Texas, to Mr. Mack Swoopes Sr. and Mrs. Inez Truesdale Swoopes.
She grew up in Odessa with four sisters: Verna Mae Hawkins and Vinnie Jean Bledsoe (deceased), Billie Swoopes and Jackie Hammond of Odessa; two brothers, Essie D. Swoopes (deceased) and Mack Swoopes Jr. of Odessa; and one aunt, Freddie B. Truesdale Taylor of Dallas; and two uncles, James Truesdale of Lott and William Swoopes of Liberty, Mo., just preceded her in death.
Willie Ruth received education from Ector County Independent Schools. She later attended Samuel Houston College in Austin. She moved to Harrisburg, Pa., in the late fifties. There she met and married
the late George W. Houston.
She loved gardening, traveling and cooking. A lover of people, she was a great conversationalist. In her spare time, she volunteered her services to the St. Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen.
Willie Ruth was the proud mother of four sons, Danny, Davey and Bruce Houston of Harrisburg, Pa., and Kirk Houston of Tempe, Ariz.; one daughter, Carmen Clark of Oberlin, Pa. He was a loving grandmother of 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held May 13, 2003, at noon at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Harrisburg, Pa., with Father Daniel C. Mitzel officiating.
Eric Anthony ‘Tony’ McGee
Eric Anthony “Tony” McGee, 39, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, in North Richland Hills after a courageous battle with cancer. “Tony” as his family affectionately called him, was surrounded by his family at the time of his death.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Springtown Church of Christ with Bill Paxton officiating. Burial will be at Cottondale cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at White’s Funeral Home in Springtown.
Eric Anthony McGee was born on April 8, 1964, in Odessa to Virgil R. and Mary Ruth Apple McGee, both of whom are deceased. Tony served in the US Navy for eight years, and traveled to various places throughout the world. Following the events of September 11, 2001, Tony re-enlisted in the Navy reserves. He had hoped to serve his country once again, unfortunately his illness prevented him from doing so. Tony was a 12-year employee with Xerox and a member of Springtown Church of Christ. Tony was a multi-champion Go-Kart racer in both Sprint and Road Racing. He was preceded in death by a brother, David McGee, and a nephew, Don Baugh.
Survivors include his loving wife of six years, Kim Pearson McGee of Boyd; daughters, Carrie Taylor McGee and Erin Mallory McGee; sisters, Teresa Baugh and husband, Sonny, of Odessa, Karan Rogers and husband, C.T., of Avery; father and mother-in-law, Lewis and Margie Boyles of North Richland Hills; two brother-in-laws, David Pearson and wife, Candice, of Boyd, Tony Pearson and wife, Shelley, of Paradise; and numerous nieces and nephews.
