PECOS — Bernabe Tarango, 87, of Pecos, a farmer, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.
He was born in Candelaria.
SURVIVORS: Daughters, Imelda Reyes of San Angelo, Gloria Valeriano of Pecos, Eva Ramirez of Michigan and Sonia Uribe of Houston; sons, Mario Tarango and Adan Tarango, both of Pecos; 21 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Blas Tavarez Jr.
ODESSA — Blas Guerrero Tavarez Jr., 52, of Odessa, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at his residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Frank Chavez officiating. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home. He was born in Ojinaga, Chih., Mexico.
SURVIVORS: Daughter, Susie T. Navarrete of Odessa; sons, Jaime T. Tavarez of Abilene and Jacob B. Tavarez of Odessa; mother, Estefana Guerrero Tavarez of Odessa; brother, Oscar Tavarez of Abilene; sisters, Elia T. Orta of Taylor, Vickie T. Urias of Coupland, Connie T. Rodriguez, Aurora T. Tercero and Dolores T. Alaniz, all of Odessa, Bertha T. Carrasco and Olga T. Morales of Round Rock; and eight grandchildren.

Betty Walker
ODESSA — Betty Frances O’Dell Walker, 55, of Odessa, bookkeeper for Meals on Wheels of Odessa, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke’s Methodist Church. Arrangements by Memorial Services Funeral Home.
She was born in Richwood, W.Va.
SURVIVORS: Daughter, Robin Haidacher of Houston; son, Zachary Walker of Odessa; brother, Robert O’Dell; and one grandchild.

Wanda West
ODESSA — Wanda Elaine West, 62, of Odessa, a housewife, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at University Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil Maxey officiating.
Burial will follow at Resthaven cemetery in Midland.
She was born in Sublette, Kan.
SURVIVORS: Husband, Billy West of Odessa; son, Kerry West of Meade, Kan.; daughters, Wendy Aguero of Dodge City, Kan., and Amy Martinez of Odessa; brothers, Bill Creeden and Bob Creeden, both of Pensacola, Fla., Ben Creeden of Garden City, Kan., and Jim Creeden of Sublette, Kan.; sisters, Nita Sunderlaanad of Santana, Kan., Joan Moore of Dodge City, Kan., Janie Deewall of Coldwater, Kan., and Mary Allingham of Lakeside, Calif.

Troy Opal Cowan
LEVELLAND — Troy Opal Cowan of Odessa, Texas, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2003, while visiting in Seattle, Washington. She passed away peacefully after a short illness.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, at George Price Funeral Home in Levelland, Texas, with Minister Roy Jones of the West Side Church of Christ in Odessa officiating.
Mrs. Cowan was born October 9, 1916, in Crosbyton, Texas, to her parents Troy and Dora McDermett. She married Frank Cowan in 1935. She was a member of the West Side Church of Christ in Odessa. She was a homemaker and preceded in death by her husband in 1989.
She is survived by her four sons, Duane and wife, Betty, of Seattle, Washington, Tommy and wife, K-Lu, Of Mt. Alba, Texas, Benny and wife, Colene, of Odessa, Texas, Charles and wife, Shirley, of Seattle, Washington; sister, Wanda Parker of Lubbock, Texas; brother, Jimmy Mcdermett of Truth or Consequence, New Mexico; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

William Thomas ‘Tommy’ Lewis
ABILENE — William Thomas “Tommy” Lewis, 32, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at an Abilene Medical Center. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South.
Tommy was born March 14, 1971, in Odessa, Texas, the son of Roy Jr. and Wanda Holladay Lewis. Tommy had been a paramedic in Oklahoma City and also in Monahans, Texas. Currently he was working for Blue Cross/Blue Shield as a claims rep. He was active in Abilene Repertory Theater.
Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Roy Weldon Lewis, and his grandmother, Betty Holladay.
Survivors include his mother, Wanda Lewis of Imperial, Texas; a brother, Weldon Lewis of Goodwell, Okla.; grandfather, Wyatt Holladay of Wickett, Texas; two uncles, Lawrence Holladay and wife, Sally, of San Angelo, and Bobby Holladay of San Angelo; one aunt, Dorothy Geiger of Las Vegas, Nev.; several great aunts and uncles, cousins and a host of special friends.
Memorials may be made to Abilene Repertory Theater (ART) or the donor’s favorite charity.

John Lawson Stokes
ODESSA — John Lawson Stokes went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 12, 2003. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tessie Mae Stokes; father, Hershel Vetran Stokes; and brother, George Edward Stokes.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Ann Thornton-Stokes of Endicott, N.Y.; his three daughters, Kay Howard of Crane, Texas, Delores Stokes of Odessa, Texas, and Pamela Rogers of Odessa, Texas; two grandchildren, Don Woodward of Odessa, Texas, and Kristi Woodward of Crane, Texas; one great-grandchild, Zac Woodward of Crane, Texas; a cherished mother-in-law, Mary B. Thornton of Vestal, N.Y.; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Joan Thornton of Binghamton, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
John was a long time resident of Crane and a graduate of the class of 1942. John’s adventures were many. He had a heart as big as Texas and drawl to match. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Always the gentleman, he will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
A memorial service will be held for John at an open house of Mimi and Tiny Earp in Crane, 1 mile South385, The Log House, on Saturday, June 28, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m.

James H. ‘Red’ Vaughn
ODESSA — James H. “Red” Vaughn, 70, passed away Wednesday evening after a 22-year hard fought battle with heart disease and CLL. He was born in Sweetwater, Texas, February 21, 1933, and moved to Odessa in 1948 where he attended Odessa High School.
His parents and siblings preceded him in death, as well as his four pawed friend, Barney.
He married his loving wife of 51 years, Donna, in Lovington, N.M., September 19, 1951. He served aboard the USS Dixie during the Korean War and returned to Odessa afterwards. He was a plant foreman for Getty Oil until 1984 when his poor health forced him to retire from the job he so loved. He was also known as the Master Chef because of his mouth watering barbecue brisket.
James loved fishing and hunting. He enjoyed working with young people. He served as an officer for the OHS Booster Club in the seventies and was given a lifetime membership on the board. He was always wherever his children and grandchildren needed him. He enjoyed catering feeds for different companies when he had his catering company, Master Chef. He was always the man his children, his wife and friends depended on. To most, he was and always will be a true Hero.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna of Odessa; his devoted daughter, Gingi Vaughn of Odessa; his loving sons, David James Vaughn and wife, Theresa, of MIdland; his grandsons, Will Wagner of Maryville, Mo., Cody Vaughn of Lake Charles, La., Bucky Vaughn of Midland, Texas; his beautiful granddaughter, Wren Wagner of Orlando, Fla.; and Wanda Scott of Odessa, who is his aunt by marriage, mom by love.
Our thanks and appreciation to James Green, his best friend, fishing buddy and coffee drinking buddy. Thanks to Dr. Connie Hutton of Conroe, who along with prayers gave us 21 wonderful years with our Hero. Thanks to Dr. Weldon Butler, Jody and staff, Star Hospice, especially Toni, Amanda and Sue, who gave our Hero the care that was needed for the past year. He will always be our true Hero and be so missed.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Raymond G. Bedford
MIDLAND — Raymond G. Bedford, 47, of Odessa, died on Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at an Odessa hospital. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2003, at the Zion Church in Odessa with Brother Dewey, pastor, officiating.
Raymond was born on December 28, 1955, in Atlanta, Ga., and married Brenda Evans, June 23, 2001, in Odessa. He had lived in Odessa since 1980 and had been a truck driver for G&RG Trucking, Inc. He served in the United States Army and was a member of Zion Church. He was also a member of the Last Few motorcycle club for five years.
Survivors include wife, Brenda Bedford of Odessa; four sons, Raymond Seth Bedford of Austin, Christopher Bedford of Beaumont and Daniel and Jason Bedford, both of Fort Smith, Ark.; one daughter, Ashton Bedford of Odessa; his parents, Raymond and Helen Bedford of Midland; three brothers, Donald Alan Bedford of Odessa, James Lee Bedford and wife, Penney, of Lochbuie, Colorado and William Joseph Bedford and wife, Latona, of Midland; one grandmother, Bertha Bedford Montgomery of Abilene; one step-grandchild; Sierra Jewell Evans of Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Sherell Bedford; paternal grandfather, Ray Bedford; and maternal grand parents, Howard and Stella Bernard.

Bill Wrinkle
RANKIN — Bill Wrinkle, 65, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 5, 2003, at Midland Memorial Hospital, Midland, Texas, following an illness diagnosed as Mesothelioma Lung Cancer.
Bill was born March 29, 1938, in Bronte, Texas, the son of Arthur Lee Wrinkle and Leotha Best Wrinkle.
He married Patricia Brock on May 18, 1958, in Midland and to this union one child was born, Kerry Brent Wrinkle. Bill is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Kerry Brent and wife, Phyllis, and grandchildren, Kylie and Caleb Wrinkle, all of Rankin. Also surviving is one sister, Juanita White of Mansfield, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Following graduation from Bronte High School in 1957, he signed a letter of intent to play Guard for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Being a much sought after ballplayer, he was offered a scholarship to every Southwest Conference College with the exception of one. Bill attended Odessa Junior College Trade School while employed by Neill’s Plumbing and Heating in Midland. From there his career began with Texas Natural, later known as Union Texas Petroleum, Benedum Field, Midkiff, Texas, that spanned some thirty-one years, with the exception of a two year stint with Uncle Sam in the U.S. Army, Artillery Division during the Berlin and Cuban Crisis – January 1961, Honorable Discharge as Specialist E5 February 1, 1963. Following retirement from Union Texas Petroleum when the company sold to Western Gas Resources, Inc. on November 1, 1991, Bill continued to work for the new owners as a IRD Mechanalysis Technician until retirement on January 31, 1998. Work became his ballgame early in life and he always enjoyed his job and the people he worked with. Another part of his career included agent for Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association for the past twenty-five years.
Sports continued to be a part of his life as a coach in Little League and Pony League Baseball coaching the renown “RANKIN GO TEAM” was one of the joys of his life. He was an avid fan of the Rankin Red Devils, always supporting the home team win or lose.
His church life was foremost in every way as was his family. Bill has been a member of First Baptist Church in Rankin, Texas, since 1967, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Brotherhood President and on numerous committees of the local church. Bill was presently serving as a director of the Rankin Chamber of Commerce. Bill’s grandchildren will always remember him as Grandpa, the guy that could almost always “FIX IT,” if it was broken, a wonderful husband and a friend to his wife and the greatest Dad, and father-in-law anyone could hope for.
Funeral services for Bill. C. Wrinkle will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2003, at First Baptist Church, Rankin, Texas, with the Rev. Jim Medley and Rev. J.C. Tankersley officiating. Special music will be provided by Rev. Morris Johnson and Mrs. Lana Medley. Burial will follow in Rankin cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the 1964 Rankin Go Team, Terry Gray, Jim Vick, Johnny Smith, Johnny Kidd, Lester Titsworth, Dean Titsworth and Billy Bearden. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Latham, Phillip West, Leslie McFadden, Mel Longwell, Wally Johnson, Wylie Grant and Bob Welch.
Arrangements are with Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Homes & Chapel, Crane, Texas.
Our expressions of appreciation go out to the many of you that have faithfully prayed for Bill’s health recovery and for the team of doctors and nurses that gave their best during Bill’s medical treatment during the past six months.

Ned W. McGuire
MEADVILLE, Pa. — Left this life and entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday, June 18, 2003, where his precious wife, Erma, of over 53 years was awaiting him.
Ned W. McGuire was born on Jan. 23, 1918, in Dixonburg, Pa., to William E. and Bessie McGuire. He was preceded in death by his two brothers and two sisters.
While given opportunities to live in other parts of the country, Ned preferred to stay in Western Pennsylvania and pursue his pasttimes of hunting, fishing and golf. Ned and Erma loved to dance, play cards and always enjoyed the company of family and many close friends. Ned served his country during World War II as a tank commander in the 752nd Armored Divison and saw action in Italy. He retired as chief methods engineer at Talon Zipper Company in Meadville, Pa., after 43 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Lynne McGuire of Kennebunk Port, Maine; son, Randy McGuire of Odessa, Texas; grandsons, Ian McGuire of Polk, Pa., and Ryan McGuire of Odessa; and great-granddaughter, Raylynne McGuire; and many nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered for his kindness, sweet smile and sweet spirit. He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
With deepest appreciation to the staff of Medical Hospital, Sienna Care Center and Hospice House.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, Greendale cemetery in Meadville, Pa.
