Gene Dixon
Gene Dixon, 90, passed away Friday, April 18, 2003, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. She was born June 1, 1912, to Samuel and Mabel Graves in Post, Texas.
She moved to Odessa in 1930 and later married
R.G. Dixon on April 16, 1936, in San Angelo. She was a homemaker.
Her parents, her brother, Gilbert Graves, and her husband, R.G. Dixon, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Bobbie Adams and husband Harold, of Granbury; granddaughter, Christie Vandever and husband, David, of Odessa; grandson, Mike Adams of Houston; and great-grandchildren, Eric and Alicia Vandever.

Guadalupe Juarez
Guadalupe Juarez, 53 years of age, passed away on April 18, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born on October 7, 1949, in Pecos, Texas, to Tereso and Juana Juarez. He married
Rosa Linda Fuentes on June 26, 1985, in Odessa.
Surviving are his wife, Rosa Linda Juarez of Odessa, daughters; Sylvia Castillo of Midland, Priscilla Navarette of Odessa, stepson; Christopher Anaya of Odessa, stepdaughters; Christina Serna of Dallas, Abby Michelle Anaya of San Angelo, brothers; Victorino Juarez of Barstow, Tereso Juarez of Barstow, Fransisco Juarez of Midland, Tito Juarez of Houston, grandchildren; Erika, Rigo, Alex, Josh Castillo, Christopher Navarrette, Manuel Adan Quintana, great-grandchildren; Eryssa Castillo, Samuel Avila.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Barstow. Burial will follow at Barstow cemetery.

Jack Monzingo
Jack Dalton Monzingo left this world on Friday, April 18, 2003 in Odessa. He was born September 25, 1929, in Lubbock, TX, to William H. Monzingo and Orela Jarvis Monzingo.
He was raised in Memphis, TX, where he played football with the Memphis Cyclones and graduated from Memphis High School in 1947. Shortly after graduation, Jack married
his high school sweetheart Betty Bob Webb on September 27, 1947.
Jack and “Bobby” moved to Odessa in 1957. He was an employee of El Paso Natural Gas and retired in 1983 after 30 years of service. He was a Charter Member and Usher of Asbury United Methodist Church in Odessa and a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge.
Jack blessed the lives of all those around him and is deeply loved by his family that survives him, which includes his wife Bobby; son, Rocky Lee and daughter in-law Vicky Monzingo of Midland; granddaughter Camille and husband John Wheelock of New Braunfels; grandson, Cody Monzingo of New Braunfels and his most recent pride and joy, great-granddaughter Macey Camille Wheelock. Jack is also survived by his sister and her husband Jan and Ron Walter of Conroe, TX; sister Wanda Sager and husband Norm of Milton Freewater, Oregon; sister-in-law, Donna Cooper of Borger, TX, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, as well as hunting and fishing buddies.
Services are to be held at 2pm on Monday April 21, 2003 at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Dinneen officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Active Pallbearers are; Charlie Coon, Jerry Conner, Bob Herrin, Matt Monzingo, Ronnie Self and Clay Wristen. Honorary Pallbearers are; Richard Ayers, M.L. Evans, J.T. King, Jim Mooring, Jimmy Needham and Lee Tindol.
Memorial contributions may be made to Permian Basin Rehabilitation Center or the memorial of choice. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and master of spinning tall tales. Jack left a lasting impact on the lives he touched and will remain in our hearts forever.
Juanita Ramirez
Rosary for Juanita “Bird” Ramirez, 49, of Lubbock will be said at 7 p.m. today at White Memorial Chapel in Lubbock. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church with Father Jim O’Connor, celebrant. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.
She passed away Thursday, April 17, 2003 in Lubbock, Texas.
She was born October 11, 1953 in Laredo, Texas to the late Raynaldo Salazar Sr. and Juana Ramona Castillo Salazar. She graduated from Midland High School. She moved to Lubbock from Midland in 1997. She married
George Luis Ramirez on September 2, 1974 in Midland, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Survivors include, her husband, George L. Ramirez of Lubbock, a son, Jaime E. Ramirez and wife Marisol both of Lubbock; a step-son, George Ramirez, Jr. of Midland; two daughters, Jessica R. Escandon and husband Steve both of Lubbock, Jennifer M. Ramirez of Lubbock; three brothers, Ray Salazar Jr. of San Diego, CA, Martin Salazar of Odessa, Juan Salazar of Midland, half brothers, Christopher P. Salazar of Dallas and Jessie G. Salazar of Pecos; two sisters, Gloria Leyva and Martha A. Salazar Leyva both of Odessa; half sister, Anita Covarrubios of McCamey, five grandchildren.
Ryan Shaw
Ryan Scott Shaw, 18, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, April 19, 2003. He was born Dec. 10, 1984 to Reginald and Charmain Shaw in Big Spring, TX.
Ryan was a loving son and brother to his family. He was a great friend that touched many hearts and lives. Ryan will truly be missed on this earth. We take peace in knowing Ryan is at peace at last in the arms of his Heavenly Father.
Ryan graduated from Zion Christian School. He moved to Odessa in 1999 from San Angelo, and was employed at Star Drilling as a tong man. He was a member of the Zion Christian Church.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at Zion Christian Church with Dr. Dewey Blevins officiating.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Charmain Shaw and James Robertson of Odessa, twin brothers, Joshua and Noah Shaw, of Odessa; sister Shae Oliver of Hobbs, N.M.; grandparents, Jerome and Lorrie Roehl of Gardendale; and Deland Shaw of Big Spring, aunt, Valerie Stevens and husband, Preston Stevens of Odessa, nieces, Jordan Oliver and Rainie Emig of Hobbs; great-grandmother, Mrs. Ben J. Roehl of San Angelo; great-aunt, Carol Ann Roehl of Voca, TX; great-aunt and uncle, Judy and Ed Farley of Austin, and second cousin, Michael Farley of Austin.

William ‘Bill’ Wilkinson
BROWNWOOD — Graveside services for William Kirk “Bill” Wilkinson, age 27, of West Lafayette, Ind., will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2003, in the Greenleaf cemetery with Rev. Ruth Hubler-Rohlfs officiating.
Bill died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, in West Lafayette, Indiana. He was born on May 11, 1975, at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., and was a longtime resident of Brownwood.
Bill attended Brownwood High School where he participated in band, tennis, academic decathlon, and UIL debate and literary criticism. Upon graduation from Brownwood High School in 1993, Bill attended Texas A&M University, University of North Texas, where he was inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society, and graduated from the University of Texas in May 1999. At the time of his death, Bill was a graduate teaching assistant at Purdue University, pursuing a Master’s Degree in English.
Bill is survived by his mother, Jan Bucy Alexander of Brownwood; his father Daniel Wilkinson of Odessa; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Shandra Wilkinson of Houston; his maternal grandmother, Margie Bucy of Brownwood; and his paternal grandmother, Mary Wilkinson of Crane.
He is also survived by step-sisters, Angela Alexander of Houston and Royann and husband, Michael Williams, of Killeen; an aunt, Mary Beth Wall of Brownwood; and cousins Jennifer and husband, Brian Williams, of Brownwood, Marcia Wall of Austin; an uncle, Robert Wilkinson and wife, Kathy, of Rock Springs, Wyo., and cousins Vicki and husband, Greg, Brumley of Llano, Shelli and husband, Jay Starkey, of Abilene, and Rob Wilkinson and wife, Keva, of Shallowater.
Bill was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, William F. “Bill” Bucy of Brownwood; and his paternal grandfather, E.B. “Bill” Wilkinson of Crane.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Phillip Trowbridge Memorial Scholarship Fund of the Brownwood High School Band Boosters.
Georgetta ‘Etta’ Brueckner
ODESSA — Georgetta ‘Etta’ Brueckner, 57 years of age, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Hospice House in Odessa. She was born Feb. 14, 1946, in El Paso.
She retired as a secretary for the City of Odessa and was a Baptist.
She is survived by her sons, Anthony Thomas Brueckner of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Jason Welsey Brueckner of Odessa; her daughters, Rayetta Murray of Midland and Sarahjane Brueckner of Odessa; a brother, Danny McClure of Houston; a sister, Rose Marie Berry of California; 11 grandchildren; her very best friend, Carolyn Firebaugh of Odessa; and many other wonderful friends.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Dennis officiating. A private burial service will be held.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston Ave., Odessa, Texas, 79761.

James ‘Jim’
Williams Davis
KAW CITY, Okla. — James “Jim” Williams Davis, age 89, of Odessa died Monday, April 14, 2003 in Odessa. His parents were Jim and Lola Davis. He was born May 24, 1913, in a tent near the town of Electra, Texas.
He married
Audrey Lucille Heffron July 7, 1936 in Newkirk, Okla. They were high school sweethearts and were married
62 years. Audrey passed away December 2, 1998. He was also preceeded in death by a son, James Edwin Davis in 1939; and a brother, Earl T. Davis in 1954.
Mr. Davis graduated from Kaw City High School in 1932. He attended Draughons Business College, in Tulsa, Okla., Tonkawa Jr. College in Tonkawa, Okla.. and Phillips University in Enid, Okla. He went to work as a laborer for Phillips Petrolem Co. in October 1936 at Edmond, Okla.
During the next 41 years he held many job titles and worked in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas areas.
After spending 17 years in the Hobbs, N.M., area he retired as District Superintendent over the Hobbs area. He was a member of Asbury Methodist Church in Odessa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. at First Methodist Church in Kaw City, Okla., with Rev. Allen Jones officiating. Interment will be in Grandview cemetery in Kontawa, Okla.
Mr. Davis is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Earl L. and Mary Margaret Davis of Odessa; grandson and wife, Jimmie E. and Amy Davis, and their two children, Jimmie Earl and Lexie Lyn Davis of Edmond, Okla.; granddaughter and husband, Mary Elizabeth and Bronson Gatlin, and their two children, Alicia and Brandon Gatlin of Odessa.

Kacey Brooke Mahan
ODESSA — Our beloved Kacey Brooke Mahan went to be with our heavenly father April 11, 2003. She was born on August 9, 1986, to Dudley Mahan and Mary Linda Mahan. We will greatly miss our beloved and sweet Kacey and though her days with us were short she filled our hearts with a lifetime of memories and love. Kacey was blessed with such a sweetness that touched the lives of all she met. May God hold her in his arms until we see our sweet Angel again. Kacey attended Odessa High School as a junior and achieved many accomplishments. She was in the Honor Society and Who’s Who among American High School Students. Kacey loved playing the violin in Orchestra at O.H.S. She was also an active member of her church Youth Group and Dance Ministry. We love you sweet Kacey.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2003, at First United Pentecostal Church. The Pallbearers for the service were Jason Mahan, Ron Mahan, George Capri, Rocky Hess, Zack Fraley, Juddson Bennett, Kevin Bennett and Swenson Kreger. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Kacey is preceded in death by her grandfathers, J.L. Mahan and Olen Wilkerson.
She is survived by her mother, Mary L. Mahan of Prosper, Texas; her father, Dudley Mahan, and step-mother, Rhonda E. Mahan, of Odessa; sister, Angela Michelle Kreger of Prosper, Texas; step-sisters, Kathryn Dickerson of Lubbock and Sunny Fraley of Odessa; and step-brother, Rocky Hess of Odessa.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Christine Elizabeth Hickman Myers
BRONTE — Christine Elizabeth Hickman Myers departed this life on April 13, 2003. She was born to Jim and Flossie Hickman on April 17, 1919, in Caddo, Texas.
She married
Edwin “Eddie” Earl Myers on June 30, 1937. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1957. She is also preceded by all of her brothers and sisters.
She was dearly loved by her family that survives her which includes her children, Judith Faye Driggers and husband, John, of Bronte, Edwin James Myers and wife, Mary, of Whukan, China, and Edward Paul Myers and wife, Janice, of Searcy, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Julie King, Jorita Mills, Candice Siklosi, Melanie Malone, Christy Myers, Eddie Myers, Jason Driggers, Ethan Myers, and Carolyn Brooks; 16 great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at the Bronte Church of Christ. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Memorial Park. Services are under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
