Duane ‘Cotton’ Erwin
ODESSA — Duane “Cotton” Erwin, 68, of Odessa, passed away April 4, 2003 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born in Pittsburgh, Texas to Vernon and Margie Erwin on November 10, 1934.
Duane had been a resident of Odessa since 1977 and worked as a salesman in the oil business until he retired.
Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Erwin; and his parents.
He is survived by his sons, Brad Erwin, Darren Erwin and Mike Erwin, all of Odessa; daughter, Brenda Erwin of Odessa; sisters, Jo Ruth Baxter and Jan Bartlett, both of Hobbs, N.M., and Alice O’Briant of Lubbock; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tom Hiser officiating.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

Jean Garrett
ODESSA — Jean Garrett, a longtime Odessa resident, died on April 3, 2003 in Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Adrian Garrett, on Oct. 19, 2001.
Jean had earlier lost her mother, Minnie Stewart and her sister Jewell LeBeau.
Jean was born (Imogene Snow) on May 15, 1926. During World War II, she married Adrian Garrett and the couple soon had a son, Bill Garrett and then a daughter, Patricia Jo. After the war, the couple settled down in Odessa. Jean was first a homemaker, then the Cafeteria Manager at ECISD’s Sam Houston Elementary for some 20 years. She retired and enjoyed the rest of her life at home with her husband.
Jean is survived by her son Bill Garrett of Salinas, CA; daughter, Patricia Jo Gibson of Houston; sister, Leola Wells of Oklahoma; and brother, Joe D. Snow of Odessa.
Her grandchildren are Michael Lee Gibson of Midland, Barbara Gibson of Houston, Lisa Bogie of Frisco, Gina Garrett of The Colony and Larry Garrett in Germany. She had three great-grandchildren, Garrett Bogie and Bryce Bogie of Frisco and Jennifer Adrian Gibson of Midland.
Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2003 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Odessa.

Reymundo ‘Chene’ P. Gomez
ODESSA — Reymundo “Chene” P. Gomez, 47, of Odessa, passed away April 3, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born August 21, 1955, in Odessa to Manuel and Rita P. Gomez. He retired as a metal building constructor and was Catholic.
He is preceded in death by his mother and a brother, Daniel M. Gomez.
He is survived by his son, James Sanchez of Odessa; daughter, Mary Jane Diaz and her husband, Gabriel, of Virginia; father, Manuel M. Gomez of Odessa; brothers, Julian Gomez and his wife, Jane, of Seminole, Ventura Gomez and his wife, Anna, of El Cajon, Calif., Bartolo Gomez and his wife, Lucia, of Odessa, Joel Gomez and his wife, Yolanda, of Odessa, Reynaldo Gomez and his wife, Ida, of Odessa, Samuel Gomez of San Diego, Calif., and Robert P. Gomez of Midland; sisters, Virginia Garcia and her husband, Frank, of Odessa, Rachel Romero and her husband, Vicente, of San Diego, Calif., and Margie Baker of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Richard, Andres, Zach, Aston, Jasmine and Zechariah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Sarafin Avenido officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.
We, the family, are eternally grateful for the support given to us.
Our utmost and sincere appreciation is expressed to Dr. Reed and the staff at Medical Center Hospital’s 9 Central and to special friends, Gilbert and Therese Madrid.
Pallbearers will be Rudy Garcia, Roy Garcia, Frankie Garcia, David Pineda, Daniel Natividad, Zack Lujan, Jerry “Scurvy” Garcia and Mundy Estrada.
Services are entrusted to Odessa Funeral Home.

Ray C. Ives Jr.
ODESSA — Ray C. Ives Jr., 72, of Odessa passed away Friday, April 4, 2003, at Hospice House after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 21, 1930 in Ingleside.
Ray served in the U.S. Army’s Signal Corp and later graduated from Baylor University. He worked as an assistant coach for Odessa High School and later as a stock broker and investment banker. He retired from product development after having two products patented.
Ray would want everyone to know that he was saved from an alcoholic death by Jesus Christ on May 8, 1975, in Sante Fe, N.M. He was active in AA for many years until prevented by his health. He was a qualified testimony speaker for Gideons International and loved to share his story whenever possible.
Ray was a Baptist by faith and moved to Odessa from Dallas in 2001 to be near his son and grandsons. He loved his apartment at Disciples Village and made many good friends there.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bradley Ives, on Oct. 16, 1988.
He is survived by one son, David R. Ives and his wife, Angelia, of Odessa; sisters, Juanita Nix and her husband, Emery of Blanco, and Norma Ray Cole of Fort Worth; and two grandsons, Colin and Brian Ives, both of Odessa.
Public visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Odessa Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2003, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Johnny Dickerson officiating.
The family requests memorials be made to Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston Ave., Odessa, Texas, 79761, or Gideons International in Nashville, Tenn.
Funeral arrangements are by Odessa Funeral Home.

Dovie Blue Norman
ODESSA — Dovie Blue Norman was born in Palo Pinto County April 3, 1918, to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blue.
She was married to W.E. “Red” Norman who preceded her in death. They were married almost 50 years. She joined the Methodist church in 1949; in 1998, she joined Bethany Christian Church. She worked in the churches as a Sunday School teacher and in Bible School. She helped with many fund-raisers.
She is survived by one daughter, Louise Beesinger and her husband, Jerry, of Nalpes, Fla.; two granddaughters, Kim Metcalf and her husband, Tim, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Tiffany Gaede and her husband, Paul, of Albuquerque, N.M.; two great-grandchildren, Bryce and Lauren Metcalf; three sisters, Lorene Wood of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Johnnie Wylie of Gordon, and Marge Bates and her husband, Jim, of Odessa; and three brothers, W.C. Blue and his wife, Dorothy, Lay Blue and his wife, Melba, and E.H. Blue, all of Gordon.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Robert Scofield officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Wilda Ramirez
EUNICE — Wilda Jean Hollis Ramirez, 29, of Eunice, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at her home. She was born July 25, 1973, in Eusease, Texas.
She is survived by her fiancé, Allen Ayo of Eunice; her five children, Adrianna Hollis, Julianna Ramirez, Julian Ramirez, William Perry Ramirez and Mercedes Shyann Ramirez, all of Eunice; parents, James Hollis of Odessa and Brenda Gallezos of Sulphur Springs; and sister, Daisy Hollis of Midland.
She was loved by everyone who knew her and she will be dearly missed.
Memorial services were held Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the Civic Center in Sulphur Springs. Arrangements by Heritage Funeral Home of Dallas.

Mary Rhyne
ODESSA — Mary Rhyne, age 71, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital after a short illness.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Rhyne; two sons, David Dixon and Darrell Rhyne; three daughters, Kathy Houston, Janet Franklin and Vicky Frazier; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She will be greatly missed by everyone she touched in her life.
A memorial breakfast for family and friends will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Golden Corral.

Jack Stanley Lee Sr.
CRANE — Jack Stanley Lee Sr. passed away peacefully from this life, at home, surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 1, 2003. He was born in Desdemona, Texas, on May 30, 1926.
As a young man, Jack honorably served his country in the Army during World War II. As a long time resident of Iraan, Jack raised his family and worked as a plant operator for Marathon Oil Company. Following his retirement, Jack moved to Houston, Texas, where he would spend 21 golden years. By the grace of God, Jack survived a stroke in late 2002 which was followed by a short battle with cancer.
He will be laid to rest near his mother and father at Fairmount cemetery in San Angelo, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward A. Lee; his mother, Lucille Lee; a brother, George Lee; and a sister, Barbara Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gregoria Lee of Crane; daughters, Maria Aldrich and husband, Bill, of Del Rio, Barbara Valdez and husband, Leo, of Odessa, Lucy Rittenhouse and husband, Dan, of Odessa and Carmen Hall and husband, Dennis, of Crane County; sons, Juan de La Cruz and wife, Alicia, of San Antonio, Jack Lee Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Crane and George Lee and wife, Rosa, of Crane; 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, in the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jimmy Braswell officiating. Military Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. at the Fairmount cemetery in San Angelo, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.

Ruben Galindo
ODESSA — Ruben Galindo was born July 30, 1952, in McCamey, Texas, to Amador and Merce Galindo. Ruben passed away on Monday, March 31, 2003, in Lubbock.
Ruben was the past owner of Sunset West Dry Cleaners for ten years. He had previously worked for Chevron for 11 years. Ruben was always a positive guy, who went around with a smile on his face everywhere he went. Ruben loved to make people smile with his jokes and make people laugh when he would pull his little pranks. Everyone who knew Ruben smiled a little more and laugh a little harder. Ruben loved walking and playing with his dogs and was spiritually committed to his church and family. Ruben served as an usher at his church and also served on the church council.
Ruben will always be remembered as a loving and devoted father, uncle, brother, son and husband of 22 years. We thank God for the time we had with him and for taking him so quickly without suffering or pain.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Merce Galindo.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the Frank W Wilson Chapel. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with Father Mark Woodruff officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Ruben is survived by his wife of 22 years, Dolores Galindo; son, David Galindo of Odessa; daughter, Theresa Mendoza, also of Odessa; father and step-mother, Amador and Belem Galindo of Mission Viejo, Calif.; brothers, Amador Galindo Jr. and Lupe Galindo, both of Odessa; and sisters, Stella Esparza, Erma Galindo and Isadora Subia, all of Odessa.

Mildred T. Wharton
ODESSA — Mildred T. Wharton, 72, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at the Hospice House.
Mildred was born to Herman and Luda Thackerson October 10, 1930, in Breckenridge, Texas. She moved to Odessa in 1941 at the age of 11. She drove a school bus for Ector County Independent School District for 24 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Winston L Wharton Sr. September 1, 1996; and son, Mike Wharton in 1983.
She is survived by her daughters, Gloria Wharton Arnold of Odessa and Annita Wharton Graft and husband, Roger, of Austin; son, Buddy Wharton and wife, Tricia, of Mesquite, Texas; two grandchildren, Christy Williams and husband, Ron, and Brenten Wharton Miller; three great-grandchildren, Roni Williams, Ashley Williams and Travis Williams; two step-grandchildren, Joanna Graft and Whitney Randolph, both of Marion, Ohio; five step-great-grandchildren, Lee Cox, Jonathan Cox, Keith Hoffee, Tacee Graff and McKayla Kidder.
The family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Roy Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be made to the Hospice House. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
