ODESSA — Eddie B. Collins was born in February 28, 1929, in Dime Box, Lee County, Texas, to Ed and Honorah Collins. He was a resident of West Texas for most of his life, having lived in Abilene, Hereford, Eastland, Dalhart and Odessa, Texas. He departed this life at 10:25 p.m. on March 28, 2003, in the Hospice House, in Odessa.
He was preceded by his parents; wife, Hazel Cooper Collins; daughter, Lori Dianna Collins; sister, Bessie Garcia; and brothers, Hubert Collins, Delma Collins, Vernon Collins, Chester Collins, Farris Collins and Rubin Collins.
He leaves to mourn his departure his loving and caring children, Eddie B. Collins Jr. of Amarillo, Texas, Elizabeth A. Collins Scott of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Belinda Meshell Joseph of Las Vegas, Nev., Hazel L. Weaver of Sicily, Italy, Edward A. Collins of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Sharon Munson of Abilene, Texas, Shallay Munson of Midland, Texas, Edwina K. Collins of Nashville, Tenn., Edwin Craig Collins of Clovis, N.M., Curtis E. Collins of Shamrock, Texas, Nickolos A. Collins of Shamrock, Texas, Ike Collins of Abilene, Texas, and Mike Collins, of Austin, Texas; stepdaughters, Paula L. Green of Shamrock, Texas, Tanya F. Hawkins of Clovis, N.M.; brother, Doris D. Collins of Magnolia, Ark.; sister, Ruby Giimore of Oceanside, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
Pallbearers will be Layfayette Collins, Petty D.Hunter, David Collins, Terrance Collins, Darius Collins, Hubert Collins Jr. and Larry Collins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lorenzo Garcia and Milton Gilmore.
We would like to extend to you our sincere gratitude for the kindness and outpouring love from the community shown during our time of need. The cards, flowers, gifts, thoughts and kind words are deeply appreciated. May God bless you and keep you. A special thanks to the Hospice House for the personal and professional care provided during our father’s last days and also a thank you to the staff of Avalon Place.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Martinez Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Highland and Bunche Church of Christ with Gene Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.

Matthew Schirmer
TARRYTOWN — Matthew William Schirmer, son-in-law of former University of Texas of the Permian Basin president, Dr. Charles A. Sorber, died Friday, March 28, 2003.
Matthew, 43, received his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Tulane University, New Orleans, and his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Schirmer.
Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Schirmer, and their son, Stephen, of Lakeway; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. William Schirmer of Union, New Jersey; his brothers, Tom, Mike, Chris, Joe and Paul; his sisters, Karen Coon and Ellen Schirmer, and their spouses and children; in-laws, Dr. and Mrs. Charles A. Sorber and Kingsley Sorber of Austin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Tarrytown United Methodist Church. A private family burial is planned. Pallbearers are Tom Schirmer, Mike Schirmer, Chris Schirmer, Joe Schirmer, Paul Schirmer, Billy Coon and Kingsley Sorber.
