David Watkins
David Watkins, 49 of Midland, died on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in a Lubbock hospital.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland with the Rev. Glenda Harbert officiating.
He was born on Jan. 3, 1954, in Huntsville, Texas.
He attended school in Tahoka, Lamesa and Amarillo, and he graduated from Caprock High School in Amarillo in 1972. While in high school, he studied guitar and became an acclaimed performer and guitarist. He played the lead role in “Lil Abner.” David attended West Texas State University for two years and played with the band there for the pageant “TEXAS” before coming to Midland.
In Midland, he taught guitar at both Midland College and Odessa College. Among his notable performances was an appearance with the Midland Odessa Symphony at the request of Ferrante & Teischer. He also played background music for Ken Kercheval, of the cast of “Dallas,” when he performed a reading at a local charity event.
Survivors include his father, Howell Watkins of Midland; step-brother, Ron Watkins of Carlsbad, N.M.; and sister-in-law, Anita Watkins of Weinert, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Reba Watkins and infant son, Andrew Wade Watkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the David Watkins Music Scholarship Fund at Midland College, 3600 N. Garfield, Midland, TX 79705.

Joseph Michael Ybarra II
On Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, our loving son and brother, Michael, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ. He was 20.
Michael was born on Feb. 27, 1983, to Mike and Lisa Ybarra. Michael graduated from Permian High in 2001 and had recently finished his second year at Odessa College.
Michael enjoyed life. Some of his favorite things were fishing with his dad and his friends, baseball, playing pool, hunting and just being outdoors. Michael was also very good with cars. The first car he rebuilt was his ’81 Camaro, and his most recent project was working on his Camaro Z-28.
Michael was our son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. He will be greatly missed and always in our hearts.
Michael is survived by his parents, Mike and Lisa Ybarra of Odessa; his longtime companion, Jennifer Owens and future child also of Odessa; grandparents, Candy Ybarra of El Paso and Thelma Cooper of Mineral Wells; sister, Crystal Hoskins and husband Chris and their son Mason, all of Odessa; uncles, Richard Ybarra and Jesse Ybarra, both of Odessa, George Ybarra of Plano and Jerry Ybarra of El Paso; aunts, Grace Burrlis of Arlington and Arlene Pruitt of Mineral Wells; and numerous cousins which Michael loved dearly.
Family visitation is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Shawn Koonce officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be George Ybarra, Jerry Ybarra, Jesse Ybarra, Chris Hoskins, Mike Moersch and Brooks Robertson.

MARFA — Elena Aguilar, 88, of Marfa, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at an Alpine nursing center.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Alcuino officiating. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Merced cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.
She was a lifetime resident of Marfa. She was Catholic.

Robert Barlen
MONAHANS — Robert Owen Barlen, 77, of Monahans, an engineer, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at his residence.
Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Sept. 20 at St. Phillips’s Episcopal Church in Belen, N.M., with the Rev. Robert Maxwell officiating. Arrangements by Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey.
He was born in Gunnison, Colo. He was Epsicopalian.

MARFA — Thelma Means Grant, 94, of Austin, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Westminster Health Care Center in Austin.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church of Marfa with the Rev. Duncan Parish officiating. Burial will be at Marfa cemetery. Arrangements by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home and Memorial Funeral Home.
She was born in Alpine. She was Christian.

STANTON — Andrea Montano Hernandez, 90, of Stanton, a homemaker, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at her residence.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. George Thirumangalam officiating. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at Stanton Memorial Funeral Home. She was born in Oregano, Durango, Mexico. She was a long-time resident of Stanton.

McCAMEY — Ace Lucus, 94 of McCamey, a retired painter, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, in a McCamey Hospital.

He was born in Romney. He was Christian.

Marvin Morris
BRADY — Marvin E. Morris, 78, of Brady, a retired material supervisor for El Paso Products in Odessa, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at his home in Brady.

He was born in Fairfax, Okla. He was Baptist. He was am Army Air Corp veteran of World War II.

ODESSA — Keith R. Norley 72, of Odessa, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.

ODESSA — Jorene Winter, 72, of Odessa, a saleswoman for Pioneer Furniture, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Jorene Winter
ODESSA — A memorial service honoring our beloved Mother, Jorene Winter, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, in the Chapel at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home with Johnnie Blalack officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mother passed away Friday morning, Aug. 8, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born Dec. 14, 1931, in Merkel, Texas, to Joe and Mable Risinger.
Mother met and married
our Dad in Merkel. She may have moved on from Merkel, but it was always, to her, in her heart as her hometown. She was a salesperson for Pioneer Furniture for 24 years before retiring in 1997. She was active in and past president for the Roadrunner Chapter of A.B.W.A. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She always put her family first, and her favorite pasttime was attending any function that her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were participating in.
Her husband Joe Winter in 1997 preceded her in death.
She is survived by a very special brother, Jimmy Risinger of Abilene; two dear cousins, Jocille Brady of Merkel and Betty Lu Murray of Abilene; a son Ray Winter and wife Secilia; daughters, Donna Winter and Clyde Weathermon, Sue Redford and husband Bruce, Betty Smith and husband Randy, all of Odessa, and daughter Vivian and husband Dr. Bryan McDaniel of San Angelo; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
