Neil Morrison Wright
KETCHUM, Idaho — Neil Wright was born in Hobbs, N.M., the only son of Mardell and Andy Wright. He moved to Odessa when he was five and grew up there.
He graduated from Odessa High School with Honors in 1952 and went to the University of Colorado, Boulder to study Architecture. From there he moved to San Francisco working as an architectural draftsman. When the opportunity arose to start his own architectural firm in Ketchum, Idaho, he jumped at the chance. He spent the next 35 years designing and building houses for people who often became friends after being clients.
Throughout that time, he returned each year to visit his mother in Odessa until her death in 1991. He spent the last few years of his life in the lower altitudes of Northern California where the climate was easier on his lungs.
He is survived by his daughter, Lydia; his son, Nye; and the buildings he designed in hopes of making other people’s lives better and happier.
There was a small service in Sonoma, California, on Thursday, May 15, 2003, and another more official one in Ketchum, Idaho, where he spent the bulk of his adult life on Thursday May 22.
Werdna Lee Beaver Niemczak
LUBBOCK — Werdna Lee Beaver Niemczak passed away May 21, 2003, at the age of 80 after a long battle with cancer.
Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Niemczak; one sister, Aretta Hurst; and her parents, Rollie and Donie Beaver.
Survivors include her son, Rollie Murphy and his wife, Luciana, of Ropesville; three daughters, Patsy Harrell of Odessa, Joan Levens of Lubbock and Cassie Bryant and her husband, Larry, of Estherville, Iowa; one sister, Nancy Jo Beaver of Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by her domino buddies. She loved the many hours she spent with them. Lee was outgoing and truly loved people. She was an active member of the Sunset Church of Christ.
Until her retirement, she worked for 20 years in the Santa Ana, California Public Library, and then she and Al moved to Lubbock in 1985. She thought Lubbock was the only place in the world to live. Lee was born in 1923 in Girard, Texas. She enjoyed talking and telling about these times in Girard.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Sunset Church of Christ. She will be laid to rest in Girard cemetery under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials to the Children’s Home of Lubbock, 4404 Idalou Highway, Lubbock, TX 79403. The family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8pm Friday at the funeral home.
Ella Mae Burrell
AMARILLO — Ella Mae Burrell, 82, of Amarillo died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, in Amarillo.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel Of Memories, Amarillo. Burial will follow in Memorial Park cemetery, Amarillo. Rev. Dale Bigham of Arden Road Baptist Church will officiate. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 23.
Ella Mae was born December 28, 1920, in Balzaria, Texas, to Emmit and Betty Taylor. She married
Ira L. Burrell, May 6, 1939, in Erick, Oklahoma. She was owner/operator of Ella Mae’s Dress Shop in Borger. She was a seamstress, florist, public servant and Sunday school teacher. Most of all she was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Burrell was a member of Arden Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; daughter, Brenda Gail Phillips of Birmingham, Ala.; sister, Elva “Dee” Gunter of Borger; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Family requests memorial to a favorite charity of choice.
Robert L. Covington
ODESSA — Robert “Bob” Lewis Covington, 76, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital due to heart failure. He was born September 18, 1926, in Coalgate, Okla., to Sam Houston and Mary Cecil Covington.
Bob grew up in Coalgate, Okla., hunting and fishing with his Dad. In 1944 he joined the Navy, serving two years as a specialist G (aviation gunnery instructor), after his discharge and shortly after his father’s death, he and his mother and sister moved to Oklahoma City. He graduated from Oklahoma University in 1952 with a degree in architecture. While at O.U. Bob met Lea Rippy and they were marned in 1949 on the ‘Bride and Groom” Radio show in Hollywood California. After graduation Bob and Lea moved to Waco, Texas, where Bob worked for the firm of Easterwood and Easterwood. In 1958 the couple moved to Odessa. Bob became an associate in the firm of Frank Crockett and Associates. In 1961 Bob opened his own firm in the American Bank of Commerce Bldg. In 1964 the firm added two other architects, James H. Shelton and Charlie 0. Taylor, renaming the firm Covington, Shelton and Taylor. The firm designed numerous hospitals, school, churches and other commercial buildings within the West Texas area. Most familiar to Odessa residents is Covington and Taylors achievement of designing Ector County School District Ratliff Stadium. Bob retired in 1999.
Bob was an active member in Odessa’s Downtown Rotary Club, serving as president in 1984-1985. Both Bob and Lea were Paul Hams Fellows. He and his wife helped establish and worked for five years with the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Program for young women. In 1998 Bob and Lea participated in a Rotary Friendship Exchange Program traveling to South Africa. He was also a member of the Sheriff’s possee in the 1960s and a member of the Confederate Air Force. Bob loved raising horses, flying, and hunting, taking many hunting trips with family and friends. One never saw him without a Stetson on his head.
As a architect, Bob was respected by fellow architects and builders as an distinctive, capable designer and a man of integrity.
He was much loved by his family, He was a devoted and patient husband, father and grandfather, always there for any who needed him. He will be long remembered by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lea Covington; his son, Robert Chris Covington of El Paso; daughter, Kim Covington, of Taos, N.M.; five grandchildren, Robert Casey Covington and Phillip Kerry Covington of El Paso, Summer Creed Stanford, Michael Shea Orner and Sam Covington Orner of Taos; sister-in-laws, Doris Standridge of Charlottesville, Va., and Dawn Gwaltney of Gig Harbor, Wash.; nieces, Susanne Rauer, Carol Cook; and nephew Mark Standndge.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home ChapeL

Justo Deanda Gonzales
ODESSA — Justo Deanda Gonzales, 81, a retired Sexton for Sunset Memorial Gardens, died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Mr. Gonzales lived in Odessa and was previously from Shafter, Texas.
He is survived by three sons, Robert Gonzales and Oscar Gonzales, both of Odessa, and Hector Gonzales of Houston; two daughters, Gloria Garcia and Margie Valenzuela, both of Odessa; and five sisters, Paula Fuentes and Lola Vasquez, both of Marfa, Maria Cortez of Presidio, Blanca Nunez of Houston and Jesuita Gonzales of Shafter; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Consuelo Gonzales; his father, Ireneo Gonzales; and his mother, Micaela Deanda.
He was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Shafter, Texas, the son of Ireneo and Micaela (Deanda) Gonzales.
Visitation will be held at Martinez Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. today. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa.

Don Bilbrey
ODESSA — Don Bilbrey, 70, of Odessa, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Bilbrey was born on April 17, 1933, in Wilburton, Okla., to Rufus Edward Bilbrey and Fannie Marie Morgan. He married
Ann Collom on April 5, 1955, in Peacock, Texas. They moved to Odessa in 1963, where he worked as a truck driver for Trey Trucks for 17 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Charles and Harry Bilbrey; a sister, Bertie Pauline Randolph; two grandsons, Jack Daniel Everhart and Shaun Todd Guyett; and a son-in-law, Earl Tipton.
He is survived by: His wife, Ann of Odessa; two sons, Jackey Don Bilbrey and Roger Dale Bilbrey of Odessa; four daughters, Connie Lee Everhart, Dorothy Ann Tipton, Mary Jean Bilbrey, and Deborah Louise Register, all of Odessa; seven grandsons, John David Everhart, Ricky Don Tipton, Tony Edward Bilbrey, Brandon Dwayne Bilbrey, Dusty Ray Guyett, Zachary Ryan Bilbrey, and Eric Shae Bilbrey; three granddaughters, Sherry Annett Whitehurst, Lisa Ann Robinson and Tanya Renee Ornelas; two great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters; a brother, Clarance Bilbrey of Lake Jackson, Texas; and a sister, Dorothy Mae Schraeder of Odessa.

Yvonne Frymire
JAL, N.M. — Yvonne Frymire, 67, of Jal, N.M., died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at the Home Hospice House in Odessa. She was born December 22, 1935, in View, Texas.
Yvonne married
Carl Frymire February 19, 1955, in Lawn, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1997. She was also preceded in death by one son, Warren Frymire in 1997; two sisters; and one brother. She was a 45-year resident of Jal and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a nurse’s aide at the Jal Clinic.
She is survived by one son, Sidney Frymire and his wife, Paula, of Crane; daughter, Carla Wilson of Jal, N.M.; an grandchildren, Kristie Nelson and husband, Steve, of Gainesville, Kayla Kelsey and Kurtis Frymire of Crane, Nina Frymire of Navasota, Tasha and Brittany Wilson of Jal, N.M., and Janeese Dunn of Jal, N.M.
Services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Mountain Time on Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at First Baptist Church in Jal with the Reverend Tim Duncan officiating. Burial will be at the Jal cemetery, one mile south of Jal, N.M.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice House in Odessa, Texas, or to the Carolyn Aubrey Fund in Jal, N.M.

Senorina G. Cruz

Our heavenly father has taken our beloved mother, mother in- law, grandmother, and great-grandmother to his house to rest. Senorina G. Cruz, 74 years of age, passed away on July 12, 2003, at The Hospice House in Odessa. She was born to Braulio and Maria Garcia on June 16, 1929, in Portales, N.M. She was raised in Presidio, Shafter and Grandfalls, Texas. Later she came to live in Odessa during her teenage years. She met Jose Angel Cruz Sr. in 1951 and married
him on August 7, 1951, in Fairview, N.M. She was a Guadalupana from Our Lady of San Juan Church and later became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was strong in her Catholic faith and she was devoted to praying the rosary daily.
She has passed this strong faith to her children and grandchildren. She will be truly missed by her family who loved her so much. Senorina is survived by her four children, Jose Angle Cruz Jr. and wife, Sylvia, of Odessa, Ector Cruz Sr. of Odessa, Ismael Cruz and wife, Mary Helen, of Odessa, Rosa Maria Sisneros and husband, Joe Sisneros, of Odessa. Nine grandchildren, Ector Cruz Jr., Joanna Cartwright, Jeanette Cruz, Danny Cruz, Joe Angel Cruz III, Tina Marie Hughes, Edward Sisneros, Anjelica Sisneros, and Ismael Cruz Gaitan. 19 great-grandchildren, Vanessa Vasquez, Ceretha Cartwright, Kimberly Cruz, Ryan Ellis, Jaquelin Cruz, Kristian Cruz, Fabian Cruz, Arianna Hughes, Klarrissa Cruz, Kayla Cruz, Rudy Lynn Cartwright, Marissa Hughes, Nathan Cruz, Keli Cruz and Joley Anna Cruz. She is survived by her two sisters, Apolonia Garcia of Richardson, Texas, Tomasa Barrientes of Odessa; three brothers, Valentin Garcia, Jose Garcia, and Jesus Garcia, all of Odessa.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992, Jose Angel Cruz Sr., of 41 years of marriage, on June 23, 1992; her father, Braulio Garcia; mother Maria C. Garcia; sister, Socorro Juarez; brother, Isabel Garcia; and grandson, Earl Joe Lee Sisneros Jr.
A rosary will be recited on Monday evening at 7 p.m. at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday July 15, 2003, at noon at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.

ODESSA — Virginia Lou “Lou Ray” Ray of Odessa died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Seabury Nursing Home. She was born April 23, 1921, in Breckenridge to Jessie James and Doris Jackson.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at Ector County cemetery with Rev. Bob Bratcher officiating.
She is survived by a daughter, Stormy Daniels and her husband, “W.R. Willie” of Odessa; grandchild, Lisa Exline of Allen; three great-grandchildren, Amber Morris, Cade Morris and Makayla Exline, all of Allen; and a great-niece, Pamelia Hunter.

PECOS — Joe Bradley, 75, of Pecos, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at his residence.

He was born in El Paso. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
