DESOTO — Floyd D. “Rope” Ashcroft, 86, of Desoto, a former Odessa firefighter, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at his residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at West/Hurtt Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Dallas/Fort Worth National cemetery in Dallas with military honors. Arrangements by West/Hurtt Funeral Home.
He was born in Rogers and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He moved to DeSoto in 1999.

FORT WORTH — Balbina “Bobbie” Mijares, 64, a homemaker, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, in Fort Worth.

ODESSA — Dora Barbara Wall Payne, 94, of Odessa, co-owner of a hardware store, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at the Younger Center of Manor Park in Midland.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fairview cemetery in Midland. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, Odessa with the Rev. Steve Deines officiating. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
She was born in Midland and moved to Odessa in 1955 from Carlsbad, N.M. She was Presbyterian.

ANDREWS — Terry Jack Wimberley, 51, of Andrews, owner and operater of Terry’s Plumbing, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, in Andrews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Means Memorial United Methodist Church in Andrews with the Rev. Rick Doyle officiating. Burial will be at the Andrews North cemetery. Arrangements are by McNett Funeral Home of Andrews.
He was born in Big Lake and was a life-long resident of Andrews.

Fred Carl Homeyer
pflugerville — Fred Carl Homeyer was born April 7, 1920, in Austin, Texas, and died August 12, 2003, in The Woodlands, Texas. He was a devoted husband, loving father, successful businessman and a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Tomball, Texas. He last lived in Tomball, with his wife of 61 years, Betty Sue.
In later life, his avocations were raising quarter horses, gardening and building things in his workshop. Fred graduated from Austin High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas A&M University in 1942. He was a member of the world class polo team while at Texas A&M University. Fred lived in Austin in his early life and early career in the Savings and Loan business where he served as Secretary and building manger of Austin Savings Association from 1948 to 1955. He moved to Odessa, Texas, in 1955, where he was President and CEO of Home Savings Association for years.
While in Odessa, he was very active in many civic organizations. He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America which is the highest award bestowed on a volunteer worker in Boy Scouts. Fred was a director of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, Odessa Real Estate Board, Home Builders Association, Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang and he was a Director and member of Odessa Rotary Club. During his career in Savings and Loan he also served as President and CEO of Petroplex Savings in Midland, Texas for several years. Fred was a graduate of the Graduate School of Savings and Loan. He was a pioneer in the field of computer applications for the Savings and Loan industry.
Fred served in the United States Army and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He saw duty in World War II in the Philippines and Guadalcanal. Fred later lived on Long Island, New York, where he was President and CEO of Northport Savings and Loan Association. He subsequently moved to Houston, Texas where he retired as Senior Vice-President of First City National Bank and Manager of the Real Estate Department. In this capacity he oversaw the interim financing for the St. Luke’s Hospital in the Houston Medical Center as well as the Shell One and Shell Two Buildings in downtown Houston. Fred was very active in the Houston Livestock Association for many years and was honored numerous times for his extraordinary ability to sell Houston Livestock Association memberships and tickets.
On April 3, 1942, he married
the love of his life, Betty Sue Tumey. From this union came three children, Fred Charles Homeyer, William Polk Homeyer and Janice Sue Homeyer Van Ornum. Fred Charles and his wife Linda, reside in San Angelo, Texas where he is a retired University Professor of Computer Science, successful Boer goat rancher and internationally published author. William Polk and his wife Betty, reside in Stoddard, New Hampshire where he works for the Consumer Advocate for the State of New Hampshire. William’s avocation is building and refurbishing boats. Janice Sue is a Registered Nurse who resides in Tomball, with her husband Troy. Janice rides and trains barrel racing horses and has qualified to compete in the national finals of several barrel racing associations.
During his final years, Fred received very special care and support from his wife, Betty and grandson Cullen, whose service and dedication far exceeded expectations.
Fred is survived by his wife, Betty Sue; two sons, Fred Charles and wife, Linda, and William Polk and wife, Betty; daughter, Janice Sue and husband, Troy; sister-in-law, Frances Homeyer, widow of his deceased brother, Clarence; sister, Marily Homeyer Allison and husband, Harvey; brothers, Buford M. Homeyer and wife, Laura, and Clifford J. Homeyer and wife, Barbara; four grandchildren, Cullen, Ashlie and husband, Shane, Adam and wife, Tracy, and Caren; and one great-granddaughter, Baylee.
Fred was a mentor to many successful executives in the Savings and Loan and Banking Industry over the years. He instilled in his children the value of hard work and dedication to goals and ideals. The success of his children is testimony to this fact. Fred was a very gentle and loving man who always gave more than his best in everything that he did. He lived a full and rewarding life. Fred will be missed by his loved one and his memory will be cherished by all that knew him.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2003, in the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2003, in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Neumann officiating. The interment will follow in the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks cemetery.

Joseph Maifred Jones
ODESSA — Joseph Maifred Jones, 59, passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. He was born November 25, 1943, in Ranger, Texas, the son of Joe and Vivian Jones.
Joseph served the Navy during the Vietnam Era. He enlisted Oct. 31, 1961, and was discharged Oct. 25, 1963. He retired from Huntsman Corporation in 1998. He was Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian M. Jones of Odessa; sons, Reginald R. Jones and wife, Zelma, of Lewisville and Roderick R. Jones and wife, Adriann, of Irving; two grandchildren, Ryan Alan of Lewisville and Rhianna Renaye of Odessa; brother, Richard L. Jones and wife, Imogene, of Dallas; sisters-in-law, Maxine Ramsey of San Bernardino, Calif., Shirley Wiley and husband, Paul, of Fresno, Calif., Barbara Trueblood of Tallahassee, Fla., Lucy Richardson and husband, John, of Schertz and Patsy Fleming and husband, Norris, of Abilene; and a host of nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Martinez Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. R. T. McNeil officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Myrtle Adelle Keefer
ODESSA — The Lord called Myrtle Keefer to her heavenly home Wednesday, August 13, 2003. Mrs. Keefer moved to Odessa in 1990 from Austin. She was a resident of Seabury Nursing Home and a member of Parkview Church of Christ. She was a very loving mother and grandmother. Her sense of humor resulted in many cheerful moments with her family and friends.
Some of her most enjoyable moments were having the opportunity to touch peoples lives through food preparation. To her it wasn’t a job, but more of a ministry of pleasing everyone with her delicious meals. Whether it be in the home or for the residents of the state hospital in Austin, her happiness was in her ability to prepare appetizing food.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bert Keefer; daughter, Gladys Keefer; and sons, Darwin Keefer and Arthur Keefer.
She is survived by four sons, Harvey Keefer and wife, Willie, of Odessa, Martin Keefer and wife, Ba, of Austin, Oscar Keefer and wife, Laura, of Andrews and Michael Keefer and wife, Violet, of Austin; four brothers, Arnold Tindall and wife, Billie Jean, of Nacogdoches, Earl Spurgeon and wife, Laverle, of Carthage, Bryant Tindall and wife, Willene, of Pearland and George Tindall and wife, Mary, of Washington state; sisters, Ola Hassell of Nacogdoches and Jewel Keefer and husband, Claude P., of Maypearl; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, August, 14, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Fuenral Home.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2003, at the Mt. Hope cemetery in Wells, Texas, with Minister Mike Jeffress officiating.
