MUSKOGEE, Okla. - David Allen Rhodes, 62, of Muskogee, Okla., a retired OG&E auxiliary operator and chemist, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, in Muskogee.

LAMESA - Joe H. Whitley, 56, of Lamesa, a truck tarp maker, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at the VA hospital in Kerville.

He was born in Lamesa and was a lifelong resident. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Joyce Dickie Wilhelm
ODESSA On Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, Joyce Dickie Wilhelm peacefully moved out of this world. She had struggled with cancer and was ready to leave us.
Joyce was born on Oct. 11, 1921, to Joe Barry and Nora Dickie. She married
Grady Wilhelm in 1945.
A talented artist, Joyce used her skills as a beautician for 60 years, then after retirement, turned to oil painting. The beauty she created will be remembered by her family and friends who received both paintings and china.
Joyce was a family-oriented individual who devoted much of her time to her children; Judy Clements and husband Ray, Pamela Davis and Connie Graham of Odessa and Steve Wilhelm and wife Jo of Temple; her grandchildren, Boyd Clements of Lubbock, Scott Clements and wife Alma of Odessa, Shelly Wilhelm of San Marcos, Christie Lovelace and husband Joe of California, and Brett Giddens of Odessa; and her great-grandchildren, David, Matthew, and Arianna Clements, and Haley and Ashlyn Lovelace, her sisters, Mildred Gray of Midland, and Nell Hadden of Killeen.
During the last years of her life, Joyce was basically homebound, but she delighted in the many visits she shared with her family.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Barry and Nora Dickie; her husband; three brothers, J.B., Emmett, and Otis; and four sisters, Eunice Anderson, Lela Baize, Edith Harmon, and Lenora Hord.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Curtis Brewer officiating. Family visitation will follow at the home.
The family suggests memorials be directed to Home Hospice or the church or charity of your choice.

Jack L. Melton
ODESSA Jack L. Melton, 83, of Odessa passed away Friday, August 22, 2003, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. He was born May 31, 1920, in Leonard, Texas. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corp in England during World War II. He worked for General Tire and Rubber for 26 years and retired in 1984. He was a member of St. Andrews Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He married
Sue Gregg Dec. 16, 1949, in Clovis, N.M.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Melton of Odessa; son, Joe Melton and wife, Nina, of Odessa; brothers, Joe R. Melton of Odessa and Jim H. Melton of Littlefield; sister, Virginia Hill of California; four grandchildren, Jack Melton, Sharon Lyssy, Nathan Washburn and Rebecca Brown; and three great-grandchildren, Kelbi Melton, Cole Lyssy and Tori Zamarron.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Craig Martindale officiating.

Weldon T. Wood
ODESSA Weldon T. Wood, 62, went to be with his Lord Thursday, August 21, 2003. Weldon passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Hospice House. He had fought a long and courageous battle with a neurological disease. When asked how he was doing, he would always reply fine.
Weldon was born November 4, 1940 in Gorman, Texas. He had lived most of his life in Odessa. He began his career working in the bearing supply business at Carpenter Bearing and then at Vance Supply. Before his retirement, he was regional manager for Motion Equipment Industries. He was a member of Beacon Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Troy Wood, an infant sister, Glenda, and an infant brother, Ronald.
He is survived by his daughter, Sheri Wood of Lancaster, Pa.; mother, Doris Starr of Odessa; brothers, Garland Wood of St. Augustine, Texas, Darrell Wood and Keith Wood, both of Odessa; sister, Janice Shelby of Lillian, Texas; ex-wife and best friend, Sharon Hickman Hauerland of Meridian, Texas.
Weldon was a kind, loving man that will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Lurlene Saverance Bushong
KERMIT Lurlene Saverance Bushong, 82, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Aug. 22, 2003.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Belvue Baptist Church, 1101 S. Poplar in Kermit, Texas. Burial will follow at the Kermit cemetery, West Highway 302.
Lurlene was born April 16, 1921, in Goldsboro, Texas. While in high school in Talpa, Texas, she met and maried her life partner of 64 years, Alvin Bushong. The young couple headed west to McCamey, Texas, to start their married
life on a ranch there. Their son and daughter were both born on the ranch. They lived in Rankin, Texas, when Alvin started working in the West Texas oilfields some years later.
The oilfield career moved them to Forsan, Texas, Loco Hills, N.M., and finally to Kermit in 1974. They enjoyed their retirement in Kermit until May of this year, moving to Midland to be closer to their son.
Lurlene was a warm and loving friend to all who knew her. She contributed her skill and wisdom to her church home and her Christian family continuously. Just about anyone who knew her has a story to tell illustrating her sense of humor, her creative talent, and her love for all around her. She was a creative, talented woman who enjoyed sharing life. We will be warmed with her love for the rest of our lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Lee Hughen Saverance and Jess Saverance; a granddaughter, Reecie Leach; a great-granddaughter, Tricia Moths; five brothers; and four sisters.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Alvin Bushong; son, Robert Bushong and wife Betty of Midland; daughter, Barbara Park of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Lacey Camp and husband Scott of Azle, Angie Cole and husband Jeff of Davis, Ill., Kelly McDaniel and husband Roy of Greenwood, and Annie Fincher and husband Kevin of Midland; and grandsons, Doug Park and wife Cynthia of Cedar Park, Kyle Park of Abilene and Stephen Bushong and wife Amy of Midland. She is survived by 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, very loving in-laws and a wealth of friends.
