Vera Janik Whitson
Vera Janik Whitson, 79, passed away Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, in Odessa.
She was born Feb. 27, 1924, in Silverton, Ore., to Charles and Anna Janik.
Her parents were immigrants from Czechoslavakia.
Vera married
Raleigh D. Whitson on July 20, 1942, in Long Beach, Calif., later moving to Odessa in 1948. She was active in the Odessa Garden Club, the Pan-American Round Table, the American Cancer Society Board, the Medical Center Hospital Auxilliary, and the Odessa Country Club Women’s Association and Golf Association.
Vera was an avid lover of gardening, classic country music and playing bridge. She enjoyed her time spent with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, R. D. Whitson; and her parents, Charles and Anna Janik.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Sue Whitson of Odessa; brother, Stan Janik of Redding, Calif.; sister, Olga Harvey of Lake Oswega, Ore.; two grandchildren, Heather Leigh Snoddy and Craig Whitson Snoddy; her nephew, Douglas Henson; and many other nieces and nephews.
Public visitation will start at 8 a.m. today.
Services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, in the Chapel of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Craig Whitson Snoddy, Douglas Henson, Clay Wood, Tom Snoddy, and Doug Shelton.
Memorials may be made to Home Hospice.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

ELLSWORTH, Kan. — Evelyn Jaunita Daugherty, 64, of Ellsworth, Kan., a home health care worker, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Salina Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Emporia, Kan. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Ray Ives
ODESSA — Ray C. Ives Jr., 72, of Odessa, an investment banker, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Hospice House in Odessa after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Johnny Dickerson officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home.
He was born in Ingleside and moved to Odessa in 2001 from Dallas. He was an Army veteran. He was Baptist.

He was born in Mount Pleasant. He was an Air Force veteran.

ODESSA — John G. “Mac” McFarlen, 88, of Odessa, a retired cement contractor, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at his residence.

He was born in Hatchel. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
