Mary Lou Bonnette
ODESSA — Mary Lou Bonnette, 79, of Odessa, a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, passed away on Dec. 6, 2003, at Plaza Medical Center in Fort Worth. Graveside services will be on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Charles Tapley officiating.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Emanuel Auburn Byrd and Florence Hamby, husband Andrew Guy Bonnette and daughter Mary Ginn.
Mary was Baptist and is survived by her sons, Robert Bonnette and wife Carol of Lubbock, Guy Bonnette Jr. of Houston; daughter, Alice Jones and husband Jimmy of Odessa; and her beloved aunt, Frankie Saros of Seagoville; five grandchildren, Mark Harcrow, Kris Westervelt, Colby Ginn, Bryan and Brandon Bonnette; her buddies, Rocky and Foxey.

Charles Alvie Drennan
BROWNWOOD — Charles Alvie “Buddy” Drennan was born on June 16, 1916, in Comanche County, Texas to Charlie and Laura Drennan and passed away on Dec. 7, 2003.
He is pre-deceased by his parents; three brothers, Altie, Henry and Clarence Drennan; and two sisters, Vergie Jeter and Sarah Beasley. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Clydie Guthrie Drennan; sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Melba Drennan of Pearland, Texas and Eugene and Jennie Winn Drennan of Brownwood; and daughter and son-in-law, Marita and Nard Hendrick of Odessa. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and their spouses, Russell and Jill, Kyle and Greta, Bryan and Stephanie, Stephen and David Drennan, Cal and Amy and Kathy Hendrick, and Jincy and Jeremy Ross. Also surviving are ten great-grandchildren, Brittany, Will, Daniel, and Brian Drennan; Lindsey and Blake Stratton; Hunter and Kaitlin Hendrick and Brennan and Brett Ross. Other survivors include sisters Lula Reed of Sidney, Aletha Tisdale of Little Rock, Ark. and Lena Shaver of Abilene; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He resided in Odessa for 18 years and worked for Odessa Natural Gas. He returned to Brown County in 1970 and worked as a carpenter and painter. He was an active member of Central United Methodist Church and the Upper Room Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 1501 Second Street, Brownwood, Texas 76801 or the American Cancer Society.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Torian officiating; interment will follow at Stagg Creek cemetery, Comanche County. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m to 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Juanita Fern Leard
KERMIT — Juanita Fern Leard, 71, of Kermit, departed this life Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born Wednesday, Nov. 2, 1932, in Levelland to the late J.T. and Lora (Brooks) White.
Juanita married
the love of her life, Leroy Leard on May 5, 1952, in Lovington, NM. They settled in Kermit in November of 1963, having moved here from Snyder.
In 1977, Juanita and Leroy opened the Plantation House and operated it until their retiring in 1997. She was a past member of the KVFD Women’s Auxiliary.
Those left to cherish her memories are her loving husband and friend, Leroy of Kermit; one son: Weldon Leard of Kermit; one daughter: Sabrina and husband, Mike Kingston of Early; five grandchildren: Josh Leard, Melody Leard, Jacob Leard, Christy and husband Chad Barnett and Heather Kingston; and the light of her life, her great-grandchild: Mercedes Leard.
Juanita was a very special mother and grandma to many. She will also leave behind her cherished “son,” Robert Lopez of Kermit and her “Grandson,” Curtis Kinman of Burns Flat, Okla.
One brother, Virgil White, also preceded her in death.
Pallbearers are Jimmy Paschal, Malcolm Kingston, Pete Beeman, Jimmy Wilson, Lloyd Hill and James Burns. Honorary Pallbearer will be Mayo Marrs.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Bryant officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit cemetery.

Timothy J. Lewis
ODESSA — Timothy J. Lewis, 43, of Odessa, was called home to be with his Savior Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, in Kermit. He was born Jan. 13, 1960, in Pampa, Texas. He married
Jeanette Mims Oct. 24, 1981, in Odessa. He was self-employed and a member of the NRA. He served as a deacon at Odessa Bible Church where he was very active with the AWANA, youth program and music ministry. He was an outdoorsman and had many best friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his niece, Jennifer.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette of Odessa; parents, Ted and Earlene Lewis of Odessa; three brothers, David M. Lewis and wife Cindy of Dallas, Mark S. Lewis and wife Cecilia of Odessa, Stephen A. Lewis and wife Debra of Odessa; nieces and nephews, Joy, Michael, James, Stephanie, Jacob, Mindy, Rebecca, Rachel and Paige Lewis.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at the Odessa Bible Church with Rev. Bob Thayer officiating. Family will meet with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Odessa Bible Church-AWANA Club.

Edward C. Miller
ODESSA — Edward C. Miller, 72, of Odessa, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at his residence. He was born in San Angelo on Oct. 12, 1931, to Homer and Katherine Miller. He graduated from San Angelo High School in 1949. He was drafted into the Army in 1952 where he served two years. He moved to Odessa in 1958 where he went to work for El Paso Products Company, and retired from Burlington Resources in November of 1986.
“Eddy” served the community as a reserve deputy for Ector County Sheriffs Office from 1982-1992. He also served as a reserve investigator for the Ector County District Attorney’s Office. He continued his affiliation with law enforcement for many years after he left the District Attorney’s Office, and is well known by many officers in the Odessa area.
“Eddy” joined the Masonic Lodge in 1992. After being raised to a Master Mason he chose to continue his Masonic affiliation by pursuing the path of a York Rite Mason, and Scottish Rite Mason. He served as Master of H.A. McFarland Lodge #1338 of Free and Accepted Masons from 2001 to 2002. Past President of the Odessa Scottish Rite Association. Master of Goldsmith Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons from 2003 to present. He was Past Treasurer of Blue Knights Chapter XVII motorcycle club.
He is survived by one son, Toby Joe Miller and wife Christine; two grandsons, Anthony Edward Miller and Patrick Lawrence Miller; brother, Kye Miller and wife Helen of Royse City, Texas; and a host of friends too numerous to mention. He will be missed.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Masonic graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at Fairmount cemetery in San Angelo.

Mary Lue Ross
ODESSA — The Homegoing of Mary Lue Ross was Dec. 6, 2003, at approximately 9 p.m. in the comfort of her home. She was a faithful member of Greater St. John Baptist Church until her health failed. She was married
to Joseph Ross who preceded her in death. She was the only survivor of seventeen siblings born to Jake and Mary Ross, who preceded her in death.
She leaves to mourn her loss: a loving and faithful niece, Lula Washington of Odessa; two stepsons, Joseph Ross Jr. of Phoenix; Willie F. Ross of Houston; one granddaughter, Glenda Johnson of Dallas; four sisters-in-law of Alto, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greater St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. E.J. Miller, pastor, officiating and the Rev. J.W. Hanson the Eulogist. Burial will be at Ector County cemetery, Rose Hill section.
Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

J.C. Mercer
ODESSA — J.C. Mercer, 78, passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
J.C. was born Sept. 9, 1925, to Samuel and Veleria Mercer in Trenton, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a roustabout pusher in the oil industry. He worked several years for A-1 Construction before retiring in 1982.
J.C. married
Barbara Grace on June 1, 1974, in Odessa. He was a longtime resident of Odessa before moving to Comanche for several years. He then resided in Sweetwater for the past year. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Mercer of Sweetwater; stepson, Kenneth Cottrell of Amarillo; sister, Doxie Yarborough of San Angelo; niece, Laura Draper of San Angelo; nephew, Johnny Yarborough of Odessa; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, with Lynn Money of Sherwood Church of Christ officiating.

Esperanza Armendarez
FORT STOCKTON — Esperanza Armendarez, 73, of Fort Stockton, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, in Odessa.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. David Herrera officiating. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be in the Fort Stockton Catholic cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home of Fort Stockton.
She was born in Ojinaga, Mexico.

Warner McCarty
CRANE — Warner C. “Tuffy” McCarty, 75, of Odessa, a retired welder and dirt contractor, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Crane County cemetery with the Rev. Curtis Brewer officiating. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
He was born in Abilene.

Joe Montgomery
FANNETT — Joe “Button” Montgomery, 78, of Port Arthur, a former business owner, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, in Port Arthur.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at House of Prayer. Arrangements by Community Funeral Chapels.
He was born in Ballinger. He was formerly of Odessa. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Loretta Montgomery of Port Arthur; sons, Joe L. Montgomery of Odessa and Randy Montgomery of Zap, N.D.; daughter, Trenna Adams of Odessa; stepsons, Alan Toles of Fort Worth and Roger Toles of Bonney Lake, Wash.; stepdaughters, Paula Davalos and Ludie Toles, both of Fannett and Theresa Day of Bayfield, Colo.; one sister; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Kenneth Penn
CRANE — Kenneth Penn, 66, of Crane, a consultant for Circle H construction, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Crane County cemetery with the Rev. Jim Hester officiating. Arrangements by Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
He was born in Cisco. He was 35-year resident of Crane.
