W. C. ‘Curtis’ Elam
MONAHANS — Born Sept. 17, 1932, Curtis passed away Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at his residence in Monahans.
Curtis graduated from Monahans High School in 1951 where he was a member of the ’48 State Champion Monahans Loboes and attended college at UTEP.
Curtis married
his high school sweetheart, Ramey Lou Ellis. He was employed by Texas Electric for 40 years. He retired in 1992.
Curtis was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lou Elam of Monahans; three children, Rob of MIdland, Randy of San Antonio and Royce of Odessa; five grandchildren, Ryan, Lucas, Jessica, Curt and Andee; and two great-grandchildren, Riley and Chloe.
Funeral services for Mr. Elam will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ at Third and Dwight in Monahans.

Billy Howard ‘Bill’ Erwin
COLORADO CITY — Billy Howard “Bill” Erwin passed away Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, in Midland. He was born on July 18, 1925, to Albert and Mable Erwin, both of whom preceded him in death.
He was a lifelong resident of Mitchell County. He was District Clerk for 31 years and retired in 1990.
He is survived by Gloria, his wife of 58 years; three daughters, Amelia Erwin of Midland, Julie Erwin of El Campo and Melanie Erwin of Odessa; his grandson, Mark Walker and wife, Jane and great granddaughter, Sydni; his granddaughter, Holly Walker and great granddaughter, Casey Walker, all of Midland and his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Howard Tartt of Colorado City.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Colorado City cemetery with Father Dennis Bosley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to All Saints Episcopal Church or Mitchell County Hospital Auxiliary.
Services are entrusted to Kiker-Seale Funeral Home of Colorado City.
Martin Shane Sauseda Jr.
ODESSA — A good and caring father, son, brother, grandson and nephew, Martin Shane Sauseda Jr., 18, of Odessa passed away Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at his residence. He was born June 26, 1985, in Odessa to Martin Sauseda Sr. and Julie Dominguez.
Mr. Sauseda was a Christian Catholic and worked for the Galveston County Courthouse. He was preceded in death by grandfather, Martin O. Sauseda, and grandmother, Eloria Dominguez.
He is survived by his daughter, Mariah Faith Sauseda of Odessa; father, Martin Sauseda Sr. of Odessa; mother, Julie D. Torres and husband, Joe, of Odessa; brother, Joseph Torres of Odessa; sister, Mercie S. Pena and husband, Erik, of Denver, Colo.; niece and nephew, Aleyiah and Erik Pena of Denver, Colo.; grandmother, Eloisa Contreras of Odessa; grandfather, Juan Dominguez of Odessa; several aunts, uncles and cousins and lots of friends.
Pallbearers will be his cousins and friends.
Martin was a very proud young man who was an avid boxer and fan receiving many first-place trophies in his competitions throughout his boxing career from 1998-2001. In March 17, 2002, his precious treasure was born Mariah Sauseda, whom he loved and especially adored. On June 21, 2003, he reached one of his goals by graduating from Seaborn in Galvaston, Texas. His greatest goal in life was to have become a fireman.
Mass will be celebrated today, Oct. 14, 2003, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Francis Frey officiating with interment to follow at Rosehill cemetery.

Karen White
COLORADO CITY — Mrs. Karen White, 46, of Colorado City and formerly of Stanton, died Saturday morning in a local hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Colorado High School auditorium with Rev. Monte Kreis officiating. Burial will follow in the Colorado City cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. White was born Aug. 19, 1957, in Kermit, Texas, to Milton and Mildred Bell Howard and had been a resident of Colorado City for the past year and a half. She was a graduate of Wink High School, received her bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech and her master’s degree from Sul Ross and had been a teacher in several schools in West Texas. She married
Jim White Dec. 29, 1978, in Wink. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Colorado City.
Mrs. White is survived by her husband, Jim White of Colorado City; two sons, Clay White of Lubbock and Clint White of Colorado City; one daughter, Clansy White of Colorado City; her parents, Milton and Mildred Howard of Colorado City; two sisters, Carol Morton of Stockton, Mo., and Beth Brannan of Nacogdoches; and brother, Glenn Howard of Victoria.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
John B. Woodfin
ODESSA — John B. Woodfin of Gardendale died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born April 13, 1907, in Monday, Texas, to John Neil and Harriet Ellen Woodfin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Lynn Money officiating. Interment will be at Monahans Memorial cemetery.
Mr. Woodfin came to Pyote in 1936 in a covered wagon; they lived in a tent with a dirt floor. He ranched in Corona, N.M., and Wickett, and worked for the railroad during the depression. He later owned a water well service. He loved to play dominos and bingo at the Northside Senior Citizens Center and loved to camp and fish. He loved his grandchildren. The family would like to express a special thank you to the nurses at Medical Center Hospital on the fifth floor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Mr. Woodfin is survived by his son, James Kenneth Woodfin of Del Rio; daughter, JoAnn Wingrove and her husband, Jimmy, of Gardendale; brother, Foch Woodfin of San Angelo; sisters, Minnie Edwards of Abilene and Inez Woodfin of Odessa. Also, four grandchildren, Teresa and William Gardner of Denver City, Donna and Ken Frasier of Odessa, Becky and Mike Hill of Gardendale and Stephanie and Ernie Gomier of Houston; eight great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, many friends and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gloria Juanita Latham
ODESSA — Gloria Juanita Latham, 71, of Odessa died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at Deerings Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 16, 1931, in Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Duckett officiating. Interment will be at Gumsprings, Texas, in Longview.
Mrs. Latham owned Latham Printing.
She is survived by her sons, Jim Latham Jr. and wife, Sandy, of Odessa, Robert Perrin of Odessa and Ronnie Perrin of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Jamie Smith and husband, Sam, of Colorado; stepdaughters, Dale Anderson and Deanna Layman of Odessa, and Deborah Reed of Colorado Springs, Colo.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Reford Ray ‘Roy’ Brannon
ODESSA — Reford Ray “Roy” Brannon, 85, of Denton and former resident of Gardenville, Texas, and Holdenville, Okla., passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, in Denton.
Roy was born Sept. 2, 1917, in Sasakwa, Okla., to E. B. and Pearl Lee Brannon. He married
Opal Irene Huff on Oct. 26, 1940, in Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2001. Roy was a member of Lewisville Church of Christ.
He is survivied by his daughter, Charlotte Irene Harrell of Seguin, Texas; sons, Jimmy Ray Brannon of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Charles Roy Brannon of Lewisville; sisters, Dimple Hand and Elthie Hand, both of Friona; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton. Harold Taylor will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Roosevelt Covington
MONAHANS — Mr. Roosevelt Covington, the son of the late Louis King Covington and Mattie White Covington, was born March 13, 1927, in Hamlin, Texas.
In 1983, he moved to Monahans from Twitty, Texas. He had a tire shop in Shamrock, Texas, and worked for the Reeves family for several years. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
On Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, God sent His Angel of Love to Odessa Medical Center Hospital to summon Roosevelt to His everlasting home. He passed after a long bout with illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and five brothers. Survivors include his son, Calvin Sullivan and wife, Christy, of Monahans; daughter, his very own, Mary Frances “Little Mama” Cole, and husband, Quincy of Odessa; grandson, Jalen Lee Sullivan of Monahans; brother, the Rev. James Covington of Hamlin, Texas; and a great host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Shiloh Baptist Church with Jeppie Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Monahans Memorial cemetery.

Mable C. Heiser
CRANE — Mable C. Heiser, 91, of Kermit, Texas, formerly of Millersview, Texas, London, Texas and Crane, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003.
Mable was born in Rising Star, Texas, on Sept. 18, 1912, to Henry and Martha Flippin. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kermit. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erdman “Buck” Heiser. She is survived by four children, Joan Gaddy of Garland, Texas, Richard Heiser of Bixby, Okla., Harvey Heiser of Lake George, Colo., and Bill Heiser of Kermit, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Warren Henry Flippin of Mesquite, Texas; and one sister, Lucille Flippin Banfield of Bronte, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, in the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel in Crane with the Rev. Mike Oldham officiating. Burial will follow in the Crane County cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Bruce W. Lee
ODESSA — Bruce Lee “PaPa,” of Odessa, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born on July 31, 1935, in Haskell County, Texas, to John Wheeler and Hazel Turner Lee. Bruce married
Barbara Ann Russell in 1955, and they moved from Rochester, Texas, to Odessa in 1966, where he was employed in the oilfield and as a crane operator for many years.
In his early years, he farmed and rodeoed. Bruce enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and caring for his horses and other animals. He was a member of Open Door Assembly of God for many years, and his church family was very dear to him.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one sister.
He is survived by two daughters, Fonda Lindsey and husband Roger of Odessa and Jana Lee and husband Robert of Coppell, Texas; three grandchildren, Christy Oates and husband David, Amy Garcia and Matthew Lindsey, all of Odessa; three great-grandchildren, Casey Garcia, Breyanne Navarez and Nathan Oates (due in February), all of Odessa; brother, John Lee of Palestine, Texas; sisters, Joyce Duvall of Sweetwater; and several nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful for the many prayers and support from family and friends during this difficult time.
